We stayed in the family room.The mattress on the bunkbeds were a little uncomfortable, but the room was lovely. Very clean and bright, and we were supplied with fresh towels, bottles of water, biscuits and tea, coffee and hot chocolate everyay. There is a good selection of food served and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The surrounding area is beautiful with lots of things to do close by. I would recommended The Shakespear Inn.

Rooms was as described in info. Plenty of space for a family. The small fridge was a nice addition. Room was above the bar so a little noisy but quietened down after 11.30pm. Room was quite light despite blackout blind on one window. No soap in bathroom but quickly addressed once staff advised.

Service was patchy. Not an overly friendly welcome with first request for payment. Ate in the pub but a bit disappointed with service, food and drinks.

This place is a hidden gem. Very comfortable place in a location close to attractions. The room and toilets were very clean. Good amenities. The parking was beside the road, but enough spaces. The only negative thing we felt was the unfriendly nature of the staff.

It's very close to some of the Iron bridge attractions, close to the river Severn, and within fairly easy walking distance to the town centre. The room we had was a family room, so more than big enough for us. There was no air conditioning, but a large ceiling fan kept the room cool . Food in the restaurant was excellent.

Went to a regatta at Ironbridge. Travelling on my own I felt safe at the accommodation and it was a lovely stay. The food at the pub is amazing and all the staff so friendly and helpful. The room was very cute and had everything that I needed, including a small fridge that was a bonus as it was very hot and kept my water cool. Parking is next to the pub and had no issues. There was a fan in the room that kept the room cool overnight. Def recommend.

Word of caution that on Wednesdays the pub is closed and therefore you have to do self check-in. So look out for a separate email from the pub directly.

Give the Shakespeare Inn a visit..

Simple straight forward, pick up keys and enjoy the area.
The pub offer some tasty choices and Apple desert ticks the box.

Room was large without being too big and with windows front and back plenty of natural light.

Heating was just right with an additional portable heater if needed, but didn't need it. They also provide an Iron and Ironing board which is a nice touch.

My one niggle was there is no heating in the bathroom, as the weather was mild it's not an issue but come November it might, a heated towel rail would be just enough to take the chill off when then time comes.

Out back there is a small play area with swing, seesaw and roundabout (which I had a go to test)

Otherwise a very nice setup.

However, for those who are not good at going up steps this is not the property for you, as one has to climb up quite steep outside steps to reach at least two rooms.

Nice quiet hotel down a country lane. Lots of parking, but was hard to find a space on a Friday night. Luckily someone moved so we were able to park. Room was a nice size with en suite. Tea making facilities were provided. Access to room was to rear of pub off the gardens so didn't have to walk through pub. No breakfast on site so had to find a local place. Evening meal was good

The walls are very thin though and it was a little noisy while the pub was open but as soon as the bar closed it was very peaceful. We did hear our neighbour showering at 6am though so worth noting if you are a light sleeper. Wasnt an issue for us. Accommodation was perfect for our short stay.

Check in was at a busy bar, and the first person I spoke to told me that someone else would deal with my check-in. So, I was left standing there with my bags with other customers trying to get past me to order drinks - until somebody else turned up. The room was on a terrace next to a children's play area, so it was noisy until the pub part closed. Still, the room was cosy enough. I was told that, when checking out, I could ask the staff present the following morning for an invoice. But, there was nobody there. The place was all locked up. They did however sort me out with an invoice very quickly by email later that day.

overnight stay for a local event

Stayed with my husband for an event locally, so one of the nearest hotels to Madeley. Pretty pub which gets quite busy. We stayed in a fab room at the front overlooking the road. We didn't hear any noise though.

Quite a large room with tea making facilities/biscuits. Good bed size probably, king, not as comfy as some I've stayed in but ok. Good sized bathroom with separate shower.
The pub serves food and we ordered bbq ribs, they did state as we'd not booked a table we would have to eat outside, however, in the end we were able to eat inside the pub. Basic pub grub, but presently nicely.
Friendly place, but note that the rooms are at the back of the pub and you have to negotiate a number of steps at the side to enter and exit. Well lit up in the dark, when we got back but unsuitable for the infirm or wheelchair users. You can go through the pub when its open though if you choose too.
Ok for us but wouldn't suit everyone, and great if you wanted to tour the local area.

The location is convenient for occasional visits to family members living nearby. Dinner was very good, and I was fortunate not to have to pre-book.
On the downside, my car suffered damage (probably from an inconsiderate parker) during my visit, not noted until I had left, so I cannot be entirely sure where it occurred. However, parking bays are not marked. Of course one can't be confident that a poor parker will be honest about any damage, but it leaves an unpleasant taste.

Despite the great reviews, I can only say I was disappointed and the stay was average. I knew the pub was closed on Tuesday when I booked and the access instructions were clear but the room was cold (the radiators were turned off I assume because the pub was closed) and the TV had no channels on (again because the source in the pub was turned off maybe?).

Not recommend for a quiet night away.

Understandably the bar was busy on check-in with people drinking at the bar, but checking in we felt we were a nuisance to the staff. Once guided to our room we were asked if we would be eating at the restaurant. Before we could answer we were told they were full for the night, but might be able to squeeze us in. Again, making us feel a nuisance.
Considering it’s a family room with bunk beds, the music from the bar downstairs drowned out and semblance of relaxation and hard thumping bass/drums penetrated our room until just gone 11pm. This made it very difficult to get our 2 year old off to sleep. Just be aware this accomodation isn’t really suitable for family’s with young children, but more aimed at those who won’t be in the room until the bar has closed down stairs.

Lovely warm stay.

We really enjoyed our stay in this roadside in n. The room was very clean, twin beds were warm and very comfortable. Coffee and tea provided. Sweet windows to look out onto the view.

We ate in the pub and enjoyed the very friendly atmosphere. Our food was hot and good portions. Very friendly staff. Overall it was lovely.

My only points to note were (and these wouldn’t stop me from staying again):
The chilli sauce could have been brought out in a little dish so that you could pour to taste over the salmon. My dinner was drenched in it and I had to scrape it off every bit of my asparagus and potatoes, it was swimming in it.

The toilet in the bedroom had a macerater I think? And made a hell of a racket in the night.

The shower was very weak.
The tap dripped all night and was echoing in the bathroom.
A hook on the back of the bathroom door for your dressing gown would have saved me having to lay it on the bathroom floor and I could only see the top of my head in the bathroom mirror as it was so high up the wall. Everything seemed very high up for a short person (5ft 4).

As I said, just little things that can make you tut, but nothing more. Brilliantly positioned for all the local sightseeing museums.

Music really loud till 3.15amwas new years eve so to be expected i suppose.but cleaner moaned we 10 mins late leaving at 10.40.am.when we hadnt got any sleep.think you would get slight lie inon new years day.when asked if we could sit at table for drinks.was denied cause guests was coming later that night.had to fetch water from bar ourselves.not in room.shower gel was like water.bed was uncomfortable.

When I stayed at this property before breakfast was provided, I was considerably disappointed that breakfast was not available anymore. Also it was dark when I arrived and although there was sensor lighting outside the accommodation it was not clear enough to see the paving which was very slippery.
Overall my stay was good bed comfortable and I slept well.

This Inn offers one B but not Breakfast

Inn is more into being a pub and less interested in servicing its B&B guests. NO breakfast is offered and dinner is served in the pub with B&B guests having to wait their turn with pub patrons. Room is spacious and bed comfortable. Room is over the pub bar so some noise in the evening. Inn is some distance from Ironbridge Heritage Site.

Awful - Damp Room and No Breakfast Available

Awful stay. Booked the B&B for me and colleague for 1 night and was emailed the day before to be told the Pub was closed and provided with instructions to obtain the key from a key book. The room smelt musty and damp to which the staff had addressed by placing a large automated perfume dispenser in the ceiling which made sleeping very difficult as the noise continually woke me up. In the morning the Pub was still shut and not open for breakfast so we was forced to leave on an empty stomach so this place can not claim to be an B&B.

We booked on a Tuesday and wasn’t aware that it was closed on a Tuesday. Checking in was after 5 we called the number on the window and after 5 they answered and gave us instructions how to access the property.
Gorgeous location!!!
The only room available was a family room same price as a double so no problem. Access would be limited with a pram. Nice little private play area.
Bed wasn’t great very soft and a low bed but hey can’t please everyone. Clean and tidy plenty of towels pillows etc.
WiFi connection is very poor but if you want to get away from it all could be an advantage.
Lots of lovely pubs nearby all serving food so being closed wasn’t an issue but would have been great to have a nightcap and would have eaten there had it been open.
Would I stay again probably but I’ll make it not a Tuesday and book well in advance and see what a double room is like.

A B&B that only does half what it’s supposed to do

This was our second stay here and there are many good things about the Shakespeare Bed & Breakfast, so we were looking forward to our stay.

Unfortunately we only found out when we checked-in, that the owners had decided to stop serving breakfast sometime between us booking the room and arriving at the B&B, even though the rooms are actually above the property’s restaurant!

Apparently the owners of the B&B decided that they were not making enough profit from the breakfasts so they decided to stop serving breakfast altogether.

The rooms are not cheap, so I’m sure the owners will not go hungry (unlike their guests).

The problem is that the B&B is in a small village and there are not many places to eat breakfast nearby. We were given one suggestion that was 5 minutes walk away, but they didn’t open until 10am.

If we had known that it was a “Bed & Breakfast” without the breakfast, we would have booked somewhere else.

Lovely, spotlessly clean room and comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfast (extra - only available at weekend) was very good. Would have given top marks but 2 things prevented me - the steep brick steps to the room - not only steep but had wet leaves on them - a bit dangerous and the constant music from the bar below spoilt the otherwise tranquil atmosphere. Despite this I would stay again.

I didn’t realise when I booked the actual public house is closed on a Monday and Tuesday… so no evening meal or breakfast there.
Entry to the accommodation is at the rear of the property and the keys are Inside a security box on the wall.
I was supposed to have received an email explaining all this to me but I didn’t.
I had to call a number to get help to gain entry.. the signal in that part of the country is so poor it took me several calls to receive clear instructions from the young lady
It’s in a beautiful setting but plan ahead or you could be waiting outside for hours before you can access your accommodation

Lovely location and setting. Well looked after with very good room amenities. Plenty of towels, TV, mini fridge, good quality tea & coffee. Comfy beds and everything was super clean. Only minor snag for us was lack of wifi password in the room. The whole valley is not a good location for phone reception ! (This was only a snag as we were there the evening the restaurant is closed, otherwise it would have been easier to obtain a password)
Over all we would recommend as a place to stay in the Ironbridge Gorge, minutes by car away from all the museums and of course the Iron Bridge, also restaurants, pubs and shops. We would stay here again without hesitation, it's one to remember. A proper find !

I'd booked the room for a one night stay via Hotels.com, for a business trip. After I'd booked, and paid, a couple of days later I received an email saying the place was closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays - I was arriving on Wednesday. When I arrived, I had to call the hotel to find out how to access my room, which turned out to be at the back up, some very steep steps - tricky with 2 heavy bags. I was told I should have recieved an email with details on how to access the room - I didn't get this. The room was lovely, very comfortable and had all I needed. On reading the room information, it said food available everyday and breakfast served daily. I called the hotel again to check if this was right and was told no, there'd be no food served on days when closed, including breakfast on the Thursday morning. I was there for business and had I known there was no food, breakfast especially, I wouldnt have booked it. There was an empty fridge in the room and I can't help but feel a continental breakfast could have been provided in the room. This is so easy to sort and would have made a huge difference to me.
Check out was easy - just leave the keys in the key box.

Gorgeous comfortable beds - a few niggles.

Firstly I must say that the beds were very comfortable and clean and I slept extremely well! There were good facilities like hot chocolate left out and the shower was very nice. The TV did not work very well and unfortunately, we found two dead bees on the floor - my husband stepped on one. The two bedroom family suite was actually one bedroom as the bunk bed area and double bed are not separated by a door - I had thought it would be so this is important for potential customers to realise. The pub was closed so it was very quiet and self check in was straightforward. There is also a great playground out the back which my children enjoyed.

Disappointing.Booked this hotel due to it being close to a job i had to do.I received an email telling me that the restaurant and bar dont open on a Wednesday so had to drive 5 miles to get food and drink if i was made aware off this i would never have booked a room here.The internet was abysmally slow.
The room had a tv but couldn't watch anything because there was no signal to get a picture.I wouldn't stay here again.

Nice place but wasn't that comfortable

A nice room to stay in. Shower area is very small. Small fridge broke down I think as started to make a lot of noise and has to switch it off at the mains. Mattress is worn as could feel the springs and wasn't comfortable for a good night sleep

On top of that the electrical in the room was somewhat disturbing and the whole place was shutting when I arrived at 9.20 PM

Very good.

Was a bit worried when I got there as everything was closed but rang the number and was informed how to get to my room. Panic over, on arrival of the room the main light didn’t work but there was a lamp which gave plenty of light. Room was warm very clean tea and biscuits can’t fault it. Only 1 thing I was disappointed with is the pub was closed on a Tuesday and my tongue was hanging out for a pint. Next time I’ll go on a different day. I would go there again definitely.

Perfectly comfortable overnight stay - happened to chose a day when pub was closed so the self service checking in & out was simple & quick - no breakfast was fine too as I was meeting people elsewhere for breakfast - en-suite shower was super 👍

Lovely relaxed stay.

Unfortunately, the bar/restaurant closes on a Tuesday and Wednesday which was a shame as the meal I had on the Monday evening was lovely. The Wi-Fi was a bit hit and miss. My only other small gripe is the lack of feather pillows, but that is a personal preference. Everything else was lovely and I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Rooms were good and fan was a welcome addition in this heat. Hot tap in room one doesn't turn off properly. Shower in room 3 leaks and lock on inner door difficult but overall good stay. Shame we weren't informed of opening hours when booking but minor inconvenience.

Wonderful stay

Although we were a family of 4 staying for 5 nights it was a very comfortable room with beds made up, clean towels and tea, coffee and biscuits etc replenished everyday. Great service in general (Brett was particularly helpful) and good pub food. Very recommendable! Great location with beautiful surroundings with plenty to do and see.

We had a lovely stay at the Shakespeare Inn. The room was clean, comfortable and accessible without going through the main building and the food in the restaurant was great. The staff were all friendly and helpful. It has a great location near the river with an easy walk to Ironbridge.

Not happy that breakfast was not included in the booking price as indicated on the website. I had a far better deal in London a premier inn and a full English breakfast buffet all you could eat. Not able to book in before *5pm was also inconvenient, but as we were at a wedding the location was not by choice
