The hotel was fine overall great location. Most of the hotel staff was good. The check in was unnecessarily stressful. At check in Gerardo was super unprofessional and lacked customer service skills. He treated us like he hated his job. Overall he had a negative attitude for no reason. He gave us the room information and sent us with the bellboy. Once we got up to the room we realized he didn’t even give us a room key. We went back to ask about the room key and he argued that he gave us a key. The bell boy confirmed that no key was given to us. The key was supposed to be attached to the bracelet he put on our wrist like the other couple that was with us. I asked Gerardo why he didn’t give us a bracelet with a key he said he didn’t have any. My friends said the lady that checked them in had several and I saw new people check in later getting them, so that was a lie. He said we normally give only one key per room I said ok but you gave us zero and he said yes I gave you zero. No apology nothing just attitude as if it were our fault he didn’t want to give us a key. Another day the other couple that was with us, their key stopped working. They went to ask Gerardo and he said their room key was given to some random person? This alarmed them, it was corrected but still Gerardo lacked customer service skills and blamed the customer for their errors. Other than Gerardo ruining the front desk experience the rest of the hotel was fair.

The property is completely outdated, the location is all your among for. The hotel is very much for locals and families. The room had a street view and the AC was beyond disappointing. When we asked for the staff to fix AC, they came and set up AC MODE ON THE REMOTE. lol. We had done that already, but I guess that was their way of pleasing us. The shower leaked and toilet did not flush properly. We left hotel a day early after not being able to get the room we purchased. We purchased ocean view and instead got a room looking at the road. Don’t waste your time and money staying here.

Too many bugs in the unit. Staff were generally nice, could speak a little more english and be a bit happier in general. The building must be very old because you can hear everything very loudly. Very hard to sleep especially after you see bug and feel them on you. Some of the staff help improve the experience. Location is good as you can walk from one end to the other end of the malecon.

be careful with the swimming pool, there are chipped mosaics which can cause major cuts on your body as it happened to my wife first day of vacation and ruined our day. Remember this is a 3-star hotel so you get what you pay for. don’t expect anything above and beyond.

Overall, a very good value for a comfortable room with a view, two good pools and nice restaurant. What could be better would be if they had an in-room safe that could be programmed and water provided daily to guest rooms. To use the safe required going to check-in and requesting a key and to obtain bottled water required purchasing water either from the hotel restaurant or from a local market.

A coffee pot would be great. And I had a shower at 5:30 am. Was cold. Apparently the hot water doesn’t come on untill the sun comes up. I am an early riser. It really was not wonderful. The room was kept really clean as well as the rest of the hotel. It is older but staff is kind and friendly. Restaurant was good and reasonably priced. Location is wonderful lots restaurants along the beach.

I was On time for my check in. , But we have to wait till 4 pm ..and the check in they charge $150 pesos. And we ask why if everything veas paid first they said was for cleaning and when we do our check out we ask the administrator person why is being charge and he said that was a tip for all the employees .. I do tip the lady for cleaning room. But for the rest I don’t understand the hotel is not an all inclusive anyway it wasn’t that much just I don’t like when they do thinks like this ….the experience in the hotel was good no complaints everything is close to us.

I am writing to express serious concerns regarding my recent stay at Hotel Tropicana - Near Olas Altas Street in Puerto Vallarta.

While the hotel benefits from an excellent beachfront location, the overall experience fell far below acceptable hospitality standards. The room was outdated, and the bathroom presented clear maintenance and hygiene issues, including mold on the shower ceiling and a heavily calcified shower head that made showering uncomfortable.

Customer service was consistently unprofessional. Staff interactions were often rude, and there appeared to be a noticeable decline in service quality when tips were not provided. Basic amenities were also restricted—despite having three registered guests, we were initially provided with only two worn towels, and additional requests were met with dismissive responses. The pool towel policy was equally disappointing, with no option to exchange used towels for clean ones.

Most concerning was a serious hygiene violation witnessed during breakfast service. A staff member picked up a fork from the floor, looked around to ensure no one noticed, and returned it to the clean utensil container. This raises significant concerns about food safety practices within the establishment.

Additionally, the breakfast itself was overpriced, lacking in quality, and overall unsatisfactory.

Given these issues—poor maintenance, inadequate service, and alarming hygiene practices—I cannot recommend this hotel. I strongly urge management to add

My stay at Tropicana was just okay overall. It definitely didn’t feel like a luxury experience. The rooms are quite outdated and could really use some renovation and modern upgrades. While everything was functional, the overall feel was old and not very inviting.

The service was decent, and there weren’t any major issues, but nothing really stood out either. It’s a place that works if you just need somewhere to stay, but it doesn’t offer the comfort or quality you’d expect from a higher-end hotel.

In general, it’s fine for a short visit if you’re not too concerned about amenities or atmosphere, but I wouldn’t consider it a luxury stay.

Gave 2 starts for location, location is great. One staff member was rude at the beach entrance, when we were coming back from the beach the staff run to us and held my partner’s arm to check for the hotels bracelet instead of asking politely for us to show it.

Had a Junior Suite room- not sure why they are called that. One, bed, one chair and a desk.
Would like to see at minimum a small fridge, as was difficult to get ice for our outside drinks.

. They dont have ice station at the hotel. Also, as guest of the hotel they dont provide a bottle of water either, this is miserable

My teens also loved the turtles they have in a pond too! However, the rooms are out dated and we found the beds uncomfortable and the showers got water all over the floor. Overall, a great stay!

Hotel staff is always fantastic here. So very kind and helpful! I hope they figure out the pool chair situation as only some of them have been replaced and my butt hit the ground when I sat in a few of the plastic ones this year. The newer rattan chairs are much better quality and safer. Hope they’re the norm on our next visit. By far, the BEST juevos rancheros in Puerto Vallarta!!!

Nice location and pool. Restaurant was nice with a good wait staff. But both nights of our stay we were awoke at 2:00 in the morning by loud music that continued most of the night. The second night we complained but they seemed unable to get the partiers to stop. The sound travels very easier because of the structure of the building. I realize people are there for vacation but it shouldn't be at the expense of others enjoying their vacation.

We had a great stay up until the last day when the issue happened in PV with the cartel. Our flight was cancelled and we had to stay 5 extra days which the hotel was able to do. However we were able to get an earlier flight and have not been able to get a refund from the hotel after we checked and they said we would. I would give them a much higher rating if not for this and not responding to my enquiries

Okay, this was our second stay here. This hotel is in a great location and this is why we came back. Also the hotel's biggest asset is it's staff particularly restaurant and beach staff. This really showed on the day of the firebombs where they really stepped up to the plate and were amazing. Can't thank them enough for what they did.
With that said , the rooms need up dating. The dresser in our room was awful - drawers sticking and just old. The safe key/lock was deformed and really difficult to lock and unlock. And even though it was reported twice nobody came
The rooms really need a small fridge. If we'd had a small fridge we would have had some snacks to see us through the shutdown when the hotel ran out of food and we weren't allowed out.
The pool is missing loads of.tiles. There are pool rules.which state no glassware at the pool and no reserving of loungers. However there are clearly regulars who come here every year and think the rules.dont apply to them. We remember them from last time we stayed. Loungers were claimed with a towel at 8 am then they went off for breakfast and a walk around town returning late morning to the claimed lounger and nothing was done about it. It was very frustrating and the primary reason we won't be returning. If you are going to post rules then please enforce them.
The guys who set out the beach chairs were amazing and so hard working.
It was such a shame about the fire bombing because the people who suffer are the hard working locals

The Tropicana is a resort hotel where all amenities are steps from your room - restaurant, pools, beach and a convenience store across the street. Very well maintained and clean everywhere. 4 blocks from the Olas Altas bars, clubs, restaurants, shops and entertainment. Location is perfect. Extremely friendly and diverse guest composition, couples (straight & gay),families, people travelling on their own. I was travelling on my own for the first time and never was alone. Had SO much fun!

The room was reasonably clean there was some very questionable electrical issues. Weird sticking out of the wall and ceiling, clearly make-shifted outlets. No fridge in the room, AC was not reliable and smelled musty when it was running. Bathroom sink not attached to counter the faucet was wobbling and leaking (we ended up fixing it ourselves). We were not able to have friends come to visit in our room. This was particularly annoying as there was a number of us on a group to staying in various hotels nearby. The staff however were exceptionally nice! Very friendly and helpful.

Nice little hotel -But - internet lacking .complained about it but nothing was done. It was a necessity since I work while away.Tv wasn't watchable because it kept freezing.
Clean rooms but very basic - No mini fridge no coffee maker in rooms. It would have been nice to have cold water to take to beach . For these reasons I wouldn’t stay again

The staff was very friendly, the room was clean. The exterior property was very nice for a small hotel . My problem was the internet - and the TV . Could not watch the TV because it would freeze on the picture. We asked for them to help and nothing was done. If you are reliant on this stuff you need to stay somewhere else. I’m self employed and need internet to work . Also I would strongly suggest a mini fridge in the rooms . I won’t stay again unless these thing change. All rooms should have a mini fridge - I feel it is a basic requirement. I travel a lot and this is the only place I’ve been to in years that doesn’t have a mini fridge and coffee maker in tbe room for the price point.

We just needed a place to stay an unplanned night and picked Tropicana because of the price and location. It's a fine hotel. The staff (aside from the woman working at the reception desk handing out the AC and TV controllers) was very nice and attentive.

We had an interior room which was ok for one night, but I think if I were on a longer stay it would be a bit of a let down, and would recommend a room with a balcony. I also think we were in the older side of the property, but can't be certain because we weren't there long enough to explore.

Overall, the hotel is dated but still has a charm to it. Like I noted earlier, \"fine\" is the best way to describe it.

When i first read the reviews for this resort most people said that the hotel was not a new hotel but for the age of the hotel it was well kept and comfortable. I never pay to much money for resorts since i dont spend much time in my room and what's the point to spend so much and all you do is sleep in it. I highly recommend this hotel for courteous staff and approachable comfortable rooms with a lovely view nice pools and its a beachfront hotel with outside amenities and beach service. If you don't want to spend to much for a room and be comfortable and very close to all the restaurants souvenir shops and bars this is a great spot. Thank you hotel tropicana for a lovely time and courteous staff.
