⭐️⭐️ 2/5 – Great location and staff, but the hotel itself is very run down and the “pool” advertised no longer exists, they have access to a pool a 10-minute walk away.

My family and I stayed here for 6 nights because we wanted a hotel close to the beach with a pool. Unfortunately, the photos on Expedia did not accurately reflect the condition of the property.

Location: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Right in the center of town near restaurants, shops, bakeries, and a short walk to the beach. We always felt safe walking around.

Staff: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The front desk staff were extremely kind and helpful. They quickly brought us extra towels, fixed our shower head, and even carried a mini fridge up to our room.

Rooms/Property: ⭐⭐
The building and rooms felt very run down with broken fixtures, dirty walls, and general wear and tear.

Amenities: ⭐
The pool pictured doesn’t exist and the pool you have access to is **not onsite** as advertised—it’s about a 10-minute walk away and appeared to be under maintenance during our stay, so we never used it. The “free breakfast” is also offsite across the street with very limited options.

Overall: The staff and location were great, but if I had known the true condition of the property and that the pool wasn’t actually onsite, I would have chosen to spend a little more for a nicer hotel.

This listing is misleading. The hotel is pretty run down. The pool and \"beach club\" were not available - they told us the pool was not working. There is a fridge in the room but there is no coffee pot or teapot. It's a very basic hotel. More like a motel. It is 2 blocks from the beach. They do not have a restaurant - they give you a wristband to get breakfast at a restaurant across the street and it was not good. We would not stay here again. Also the young girl at the front desk was not very knowledgeable and could use more training.

We were told there would be a refrigerator in the room. There was none. The front dest located one for us. We followed the instructions in to use the safe. There were 2 identical laminated safe operation instructions in the room. It didn’t work at all. We went to the front desk to ask for help. The woman said that we needed to use a key. She didn’t give us one so we thought we would try the room key. Of course, that didn’t work. Went back to the front desk for help with the safe and she looked for, and gave us the key. This one worked. Makes you wonder why she didn’t give us the key the first time we went down to ask for help with the safe. I pulled back the covers on my bed and there was a rip in my sheet. During the night, we heard a loud noise and then we had no water for the night. When it finally came back on in the morning there was no hot water. A picture on the wall between the two beds literally fell off the wall while no one was near it. This room was so bad that we left a day early and filed a claim with my travel insurance because the room was certainly not as described. It was awful.

we had to move rooms 3 times. the sheets were not washed and were covered in dirt and red blood, along with ants in the first room. the second room smelled of extremely toxic chemicals. we could barely breathe. when we asked the check in guy to come to the room to see what the smell was, he looked in the closet and told us there was a pesticide puck for bugs in the closet. The third room was ok but was dirty. also, there is a night club directly across the street that is very loud, and the music plays quite late.

The room was dinghy and neglected. The shower barely worked, the TV did not work, the wifi did not work, the view from the front door was a rusted roof over a rough street scene. The staff was not friendly, helpful or really hardly present. This room might have been appropriately priced at $25 for the extreme low budget traveler who just needed a bed, toilet and a (sort of) shower… the topper, the room was a complete buzzkill for any romantic physicality my wife and I had in mind.

The place is like an average motel. Location is good, center of coco beach, but it gets noisy at night (people drinking in the street, yelling).

The room was old, not a lot of lighting. AC worked great. For one night, it was ok. The posting mentioned parking, but when we asked for it, it was a few buildings away in the back of a property, looked like a ditch. We parked on the street instead.

There is no elevator for luggage… There’s a casino downstairs. Didn’t try breakfast.

We made last minute reservations for a weekend so this served the purpose. The location was convenient, but it wouldn't be my first choice if I returned. There is access to pools at two other locations but we bought a day pass at a closer hotel that had a nice restaurant and pool. Hotel is a 2 block walk to the beach and located in the middle of the town with many restaurants and tourist shops. The room was quiet even though there was a lot going on very close by. One queen bed had only one pillow. We asked for a second but never received it. Breakfast was tasty but there was no menu, and with the language difference, we had to look at what others were eating to order our food. The room where breakfast is served felt a bit like a large storage room with an old couch and chair mixed with the tables and a sheet covering some furniture. Also in the breakfast room, the Christmas decorations were still up at the end of January but looked like they might have been there for years. Not sure if the bunny pictures with chinese writing were easter decorations or some type of logo for the casino. Front desk help and the gentleman cleaning rooms were very pleasant and helpful. Water pressure wasn't too strong and water was lukewarm for a shower. We were able to get one of the off street parking spots and the car was safe there. Only two bath towels were provided versus the usual four, but they did have terrycloth robes.

Had an issue with an online booking and staff not only would not help, they kept the money and said “so sorry”. Booked the two rooms we asked for right out from under us while we waited in the lobby with our luggage and then offered no suggestions for transportation or assistance in finding other accommodations. We loved our stay in Costa Rica and at this hotel was the only time we had a bad experience of any type.

Loved my stay at Coco Beach Resort, and the location couldn't have been better. So close to all the restaurants, shops, and the beach. Service was very friendly. I ended up staying for a week and my room wasn't cleaned once during that time or towels replaced, but I'm sure they would have had I asked. Was very clean when I moved in!

There are not telephones in the room. There is no room service or pool on site. Maid service only occurred when I asked for them to sweep out the room to eliminate the sand I tracked in from the beach. I got my own additional towels from the housekeeping closet they leave open. The rooms and the fixtures are old. Some of the electrical outlets did not work. The sign outside looks like it hasn't been painted or maintained in decades. The employees for pleasant and it did have air-conditioning. But it was not at all like the marketing information listed. PLUS the hotel telephone number is incorrect on their website!! I had great difficulty confirming my room because I never saw the deposit go through to my bank account and I was not able to reach them by phone. The correct telephone number is listed on the sign and that is how I was finally able to reach them.

Property online description did not match what it was really like. No pool on site. It is connected to a little casino that has people walking near your rooms throughout the evening. It is on a main street with loud music until very late in the evening. Would not recommend if you want to get a good nights sleep.

The front door was very hard to lock and unlock. It seems as if someone has been trying to pri into the room. The lights in the bathroom would flicker off when you turn on the shower. There was a broken toilet to were you had to wiggle the knob to make it flush. Very poor place to stay

This hotel was okay as the room was clean enough, it had A/C and it was centrally located. The downsides are that it is a 5 minute walk to the beach and there is no pool at the hotel. (our plumbing in our room worked but the toilet did back up once and it definitely needs some work)

For our family, we wish we had stayed at a hotel right on the beach that also had a pool.

We did use the Coco Bay club one day (free access if you are staying at the hotel). It was a 20 minute walk away but was worth it to use the pool and play tennis/pickleball.

Through the years we have come many times to this hotel, even back when it was called Coco Green. We loved the dining area around the pool. All that is now gone, there is only an oriental restaurant when before there was excellent restaurant. There are several problems with the room. In order to close the door it has to be slammed. The TV remote doesn't work. Bathroom very tiny. The hot and cold water knobs in the shower, would fall off as you try to turn them. You only get 1 towel per person. If you need a glass for some reason, forget it, there is none. if you call the front desk, you only get a recording. Oh, I forgot to say that we called using our cellphone, because the room had no telephone. The parking is horrible, it only fits about 3 cars, once you park you will need to slide down the gravel road, because it is soo steep that you can't walk down it. WHO PLANNED THIS!!!

Details state 2 pools and a poolside bar. There is no pool at this hotel. We stayed here as we thought it would be great for the kids to have a pool for 2 days at the end of our vacation. We overpaid as there was not one. Reception advised that there was a pool club we could drive 15 minutes to get to.

No hot water for shower. Only 3 working plugs in the room including the ones needed for fridge and lamps. No overhead light so the lamps are needed. No spa facilities that I could see. No common area or coffee/tea available as stated.

Also the 24 hour reception and security is not at all accurate. We had to leave the hotel at 4am on Jan 1st to head to the airport for our flight home. We told reception the day before that we would be leaving at that time. When we went down to leave the front gate was locked. We had no way out of the property. We were locked in. I started knocking on a few doors to find the staff but I was unsuccessful. There was someone passed out on the toilet in the women’s bathroom with pants down and lights out. This person was completely non-responsive but I did not have time to see if they were “ok”. My husband searched reception and found a bowl of about 50 keys as well as a pouch with room keys. He spent half hour trying to find the right key for the lock to get out and we was finally successful. We made it out on time but I’m sure glad this was not an emergency!

Close to the beach and restaurants. So location is great. Breakfast was not bad.

This hotel was probably the worst i have ever stayed in. They allocated #217..when we went in the room smelled of sewage masked with some room freshener. The only lamp in the room had a bulb not working. The toilet was leaking and the toilet seat didnt fit on the. The washbasin just had a hole for the drain. We asked for a room change and they said they had to inspect the room for all these complaints! I cant imagine that a hotel would not know that their rooms were in this dismal state! We think they just tried to pawn off a really bad room to us! They moved us to another room which was moderatly better but here too there are barely any lights, there are 2 safes in the room neither of which work. The hot water didnt work and i had to complain twice before they actually fixed it. The front desknstaff was nice and she was apologetic but our first couple of days in CR were really colored by this awful experience

No pool on site - it was a 20min walk away. Listing says \"2 outdoor pools\" - none. The club where guests can use the facilities has only 1 pool- swim up bar and restaurant were closed, no towels available there.
Listing says \"spa\"?? Never saw anything resembling a spa.
No \"common area\", never mind \"coffee/tea in common area\".
No hot water - even after we complained it was never fixed.
Towels smelled like moth balls.
Lightbulbs burned out in the vanity; one of the outlets by the bed didn't work.
The included breakast was some fruit and buns that had been microwaved.
We went to leave for our early morning flight and found the gate locked and we could not get out - (what if there had been a fire?) Luckily a staff member woke up and came out.
Noisy bars on the street.
Their website says 4 stars - absolutely not a 4 star hotel.

Just Aweful. The pics are deceiving. The pool is at a beach club and you have to drive there. The property is old and in poor shape, however, the new manager is friendly and tries to help. The breakfast is in an adjoining Chinese restaurant. It smelled so bad that I walked elsewhere and bought my breakfast. The rooms are close to the street and very loud.

Terrible checkin experience. Front desk said they had no record of my reservation, despite having called the property a few days prior to confirm my booking and being reassured that my Expedia reservation was in order. After calling Expedia and getting my booking sorted out (one hour later), Expedia offered me a $50 coupon for my troubles. The property owner overheard the Expedia agent on my mobile phone speaker offering me the coupon and at the time of checkout charged me $50, stating I booked 2 rooms with 2 double beds but only reported 3 guests, as opposed to 4 during my stay. The property is decent, but administration is sketchy.

We stayed here for the last night of a week long trip just to be closer to the airport in Liberia. It was not very expensive but I expected it to be a lot nicer. A/C didn't work well in our unit, was fine in another unit our friends stayed in. Shower had hot water but was old and gross. There were a few bugs smashed on the walls and what was most likely a big blood stain on a wall near the sink. We stayed in Tamarindo, Dominical and La Fortuna which were all great areas. Coco Beach is dirty and filled with drug dealers and prostitutes. Didn't see anything like it anywhere else. Maybe this is what you get for trying to save a little money?

My room did not look like the picture at all. The hotel is more like a cheap motel it needs a lot of work its very old and out dated. The swimming pool is not at the property. You have to request a shuttle cart to go to it's location.

The property Manager Ruth was very nice but she is overwhelmed with too many responsibilities. She and the staff will do everything in their power to help make your stay comfortable and pleasant. The breakfast was good!

However, the property itself and inside the rooms need to be updated and upgraded.

they have a beach club that is a 10 minute drive away.
The day my friend was away with the car they put me in a taxi - very nice.

great location at Coco beach. Not sure all rooms are the same but ours had no electrical outlet in the bathroom which made things interesting. Just a heads up no hair dryer in the room need to ask for it at check in.
