I did not love the area at night. I did not feel extremely safe walking in that alley at night. I was never able to get warm water from the shower. I ran into another guest that was staying there for 8 nights and said that he had contacted somebody about the water. They couldn’t find anybody to fix it right away. The rooms are decent size, but they don’t provide you with any blankets unless you ask for them. Unfortunately, the first night we were there, there wasn’t any staff on property. When the staff was there, they were pleasant.

There is no reception and finding and accessing the facility is stressful. One has to obtain an entry code online for two separate doors. Once in inside there were no blankets ( the explanation being that the weather is hot and there is no need for it). The night temperatures in September in Barcelona are in the low twenties so the traveller should decide the needs of blankets.

The main problem is lack of hot or even warm or even lukewarm water. The feeble explanations on the phone - remember, there is no reception - sounded like mockery. Finally, we got warm water in the last two days ( out of seven)

The only positive thing is the politeness and willingness to help of the cleaning personnel.

In short, my recommendation is that Expedia disassociate itself from these premises

Because there is no actual desk to check in, it was a bit hard to find. Only a small sign with the hotel name on it. It is on a small side street that is a little sketchy. However, once we were inside the hotel was lovely. Rooms were clean and the courtyard outside, upstairs was awesome.

The property looks old from the outside, but it has been completely remodeled inside with modern decor and new fixtures. Big room and clean. The staff is very friendly (big thumbs up to Raul). There is a small elevator and common areas are clean and well supplied with tea, coffee and utensils. It is two blocks from Port Vell and MareMagnum Mall. Great walks and cafe’s, bars, and great restaurants. Also, three blocks to Las Ramblas. Great place to stay.
My only quibble is that the hot water supply was uneven. If several guests are using it, you will get lukewarm water.

Stay away from this place and stay away from hotels.com. So I prebooked this place after we finished our cruise. I started the checking the morning of 9/7 when we arrived back because there is no front desk. It wouldn't work because it had three adults on tge reservation even though another area listed two adults and two kids, which was correct. I emailed them around 9. We went to the property at this time and waited until 10 because another part says that the front desk open at 10. There was noone there and the door was locked. I waited until 11 and watching hotel prices climb booked another hotel so i wouldnt be left out in the street with my family. I got an email after 1230 that I should have just known to come to the property at 3 and absolutely refusing a refund. Hotels.com wont help you either. So im out over 200 bucks over this.

Beware, the area around the hotel is seriously unsecure and unsafe. We were mugged right in front of the hotel from somebody trying to steal a chain off of a neck. There was no help from the hotel. It took them two days to respond that they have no cameras.
After speaking to the locals, they say this happens a lot the next night it was happening again and there was a woman running down the street screaming and no one was helping her be very careful if you stay here

The room is nice for couples only. No privacy for bathroom. Bath and bed all in one room w a glass divider. Check in is all online so pray you don’t have any issues. We sat in the lobby for 45 minutes waiting for a $22 charge and they would not release the room even though it was prepaid. Do not put name of hotel in gps because it will take you to a false address. Keys are antiquated which seems charming at first until you realize you can’t lock the door from the inside without the keep. So no one in your part can stay behind unless leave the door unlocked or lock them in and take the key. Very poor communication for everything here poorly marked outside on the street as well. Out of 10 days in Spain and 5 different hotels this was by far the worst. I would not stay here again.

This was probably the worst stay i’ve ever had. There was no disclosure that their reception computers magically stop working after 3pm, which is ironically the exact time they tell you to check in. Upon our arrival at our designated check in time, there was absolutely no staff only one lady that appeared to take on all roles in the facility (front desk, housekeeping, tech support, maybe even security?). When asking her for assistance, she dismissed us and told us our requests for a room that we had already pre paid for, was “not possible”. She proceeded to direct us to send our confidential documents to a random what’s app number for “check in assistance”. Then came the grand finale: a broken tax link that took nearly an hour to process one transaction of 11 euro which ended up being our determinant to receieving a room. All in all, check-in took over four hours which is honestly longer than my last international flight. Next time I want to feel stressed, ignored, and mildly scammed i’ll book with casa liro.

The property was located in a good area of town, close to a train station and many attractive locations. The cleaning lady (Sara) was very nice and helpful. We did not get the code to enter the building before we got there. The problem was that we had not paid the city taxes, but we did not receive any message on how to pay them before we arrived. Someone was leaving the building and let us in, so we then ringed the bell of Casa Lirio on the first floor (where all the rooms are located) and Sara put us in contact with someone on WhatsApp to make the payments. After that, everything was easy and we had a good stay. The room was spacious and looked just like in the photo we had received when we booked it. I suggest to contact the hotel management ahead of time to ensure everything is set before you arrive to avoid unnecessary stress at the moment of arrival.

Great but not for everyone

This is a very particular kind of place to stay. It is not for everyone. If you are looking for a very cool, urban, very boutique place this is it. If you are looking for a more traditional hotel, you won’t be happy here.
I liked it. The room was spotless, neat and organized. The staff was excellent. The front door and first floor are very urban. The location is pretty urban too.
The bathroom is not a separate room. The tub was out in the open. The toilet and shower were separate glass stalls.

My family suffered so much while sleeping in that room. Someone had smoked in the bathroom before and they had to spray a lot of air freshener to get rid of the smell. We suffered the whole time we stayed in that smell. It was so so painful, I even got a headache. The surrounding area was not safe and it was noisy all night.

Not a traditional hotel arrangement, with no street level presence. Check-in is on the first floor accessed by buzzing the desk on an intercom. However, the staff is friendly and offers helpful orientation.
The location is within easy walking distance of museums, coffee shops and very good dining options.
Overall I had a positive experience and would stay here again.

We had a great stay at Hotel Liro. It’s a small boutique hotel. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. We did the online check in and were very swiftly given our keys. It is a great location near plaza real and a super great tapas bar. Even though in a busy area our room was still quiet. We would stay here again.

SCAM SCAM SCAM. Avoid at all costs, it wasn’t even a “hotel” like it says in the name, it is a hostel in some old rundown building, looks nothing like the pictures they show you. You open the window in the room to a bunch of heaters and pipes which are very loud. Construction was being done in the hallway too. Asked for a refund because we checked out within an hour of arriving (that’s how bad it was) and they wouldn’t give our money back. Entire building smells like crap and the guy who checked us in gave us pedophile vibes.

Was close to Las Ramblas street. Can walk to Harbour and very nice pathway to the beach. Might take 30 min to walk to the beach. Close to port for Cruise Ships.

What we didn't like was no hot water and no free breakfast. Stayed 2 nights and went the morning of check out to find out no free breakfast. Hotel is down a side street and you use a key to get in. It is one floor of a buliding. The rest is for local living there. The licals are very loud till probably 3am each night.

I enjoyed the central location to restaurants, harbor, beaches, sights. I realize Barcelona is an expensive city, but this property was overpriced for the condition of the room and amenities. I suggest this property was misrepresented in the listings on Orbitz and the hotel website. The room amenities were bare bones. The best thing was the breakfast buffet. There was an added cost, but at the overpriced room rates, breakfast should have been included. I would not recommend this hotel.

An excellent base for exploring Barcelona, waterfront at one end of the street and the gothic quarter at the other. It is fair to say that the hotel calls itself a guest house which it is. The service is largely contact free with the reception only open during the day so if you spend all day out and about you will probably not see the staff too much. They leave the tea and coffee out so you can grab a cup and chill out in their courtyard at the back.

Room was always clean and had all I needed.

The only slight draw back is that there is a neighbouring bar somewhere in the location which you can hear if you retreat to bed earlier than the locals.

The hotel was better than expected, very convenient location, close to metro and to the touristic attractions.
We booked the family room despite we were 2, it was not much different price, but the room was very spacious, had a balcony. Hotel has slso a very nice terrace and a kitchen, and lounge space. Kitchen is well equipped, they have a Nespresso machine, filtered water e.t.c. The check in was fast and easy, reception staff was very kind and responsive, Nina helped us to check in and provided us with useful information on local transportation. We also loved the service of Ferran, he was very kind to answer multiple questions, helped us to check out, and was also kind to borrow us his personal umbrella on a rainy day, much appreciated!

Avoid this place like the plague.
Firstly, it has no lobby. No reception. No front door. Literally. We arrived in the afternoon as expected to a locked door. No way to get in because there is no lobby, no reception. Luckily a couple was just leaving and let us in but we still needed another key to get into the actual hotel part. Once in there was a dude sitting there who was absolutely no help. Handed us one key (there are 2 of us), and waved at our room. The room was clean. We had asked for 2 beds, but got a double bed (we are two friends). The shower is in the open so there is zero privacy. The window opens to a back alley but I think it's kind of par for the course in the Gothic Quarter. We ran out of toilet paper twice, and twice went without because even though we asked at the front desk, none arrived. We also had to ask twice for a tiny bar of soap. If you are looking for a hotel that can call you a cab, can give some advice about the local sites, or has a lounge you are out of luck, there is NOTHING. In the morning there is a coffee machine, fruit, pastries but it's 14 euro. - don't bother!! Because the location is awesome there are 20 cafes within a 5 minute walk.
Location - 5 stars.
Everything else - 1 star. And that was because the sheets were clean

Would not recommend. This was not a hotel. This was an upgraded hostel. The shower had a persistent mildew smell. The room was small. There is not a proper elevator to take up person and their luggage. It was an extemely tight and small lift. Had to pay for breakfast, it was not complimentary for PAYING guests. They did not have short face towels. Only long ones. Was charged local tax fees when I don't reside in the country or city. Very unhappy that the property wouldnt cancel and refund the reservation prior to my arrival when I expressed concerns about the room and the bed not being able to accommodate 2 separate travellers. They refused to release the reservation. And this request to do so was made the same day of the reservation. Just greedy poor customer service for a place that wasnt worth it.
Will never return here.

Avoid this place at all costs—it’s not even a hotel! Nothing about it matches the photos. The whole thing is misleading, and I regret not taking pictures to compare. It was so bad that I left and booked another hotel, losing nearly $1,000 in the process. They make you pay upfront with no refunds, clearly because they know it's a scam.

When you arrive, you're greeted by an old wooden door with no clear entry instructions. After fumbling around, you eventually find a hidden buzzer to be let in. Inside, it only gets worse—a dark, creepy stairwell straight out of a horror movie. The tiny elevator barely fits a suitcase, and once inside, you’re directed to an office that’s only staffed part-time.

You’re given three separate keys: one for the front door, another for a common area, and finally one for your room. When I got to my room, it was a complete disaster—outdated and run-down. The toilet was wedged so close to the wall that it was practically unusable. The furniture looked like it was thrown together by a college student.

For what they charge per night, it’s outrageous. If it were a third of the price, it might be tolerable. I ended up booking a room just around the corner at a four-star hotel for the same price, with all the amenities you’d expect and a restaurant to boot. Casa Lirio is a total scam, and their photos are completely deceptive.

We liked the hotel. Staff is very friendly and attentive!
The street leading up to the hotel is not accessible by car but just about 300 feet from the road accessible by car.
That street was quite dirty ( like a valley due to being in the gothic quarter) and scary at times but nothing happened during our 8 days there.
The room was small but very clean . We stayed on the first floor and some nights were quite noisy with what looked like parties/ karaoke bar but after about 11 pm it quieted down.
The location was amazing. If you would like to get to bars and restaurants. Literally 2 blocks from Las Ramblas. Also quick walk to barceloneta( great area for bars and restaurants) , to the beach and another nice area called Born . So it all evens out!

Our room smelt very moldy, I don’t think this is healthy. All my clothes smells like mold, so disgusting. The rooms need an overhaul, however it may not eliminate the smell entirely, it’s just an old building, and this could be expensive.
Staying in clean older buildings without such smell is at time delightful, it’s like going back in time.

Hotel is hard to find and main door is along a tiny shady laneway which left us feeling unsafe coming and going but it is very close to La Rambla. Room was tiny and does not sleep three as advertised. Also, it doesn’t look like it’s pictures (large and spacy) it really only fits a bed. Sink and shower are part of main room so quite difficult to move around. Felt more like youth hostel than a hotel.

Room 113 - loud, by the dining area - avoid

I don’t normally leave negative feedback - I can confirm the staff were nice, the location a little seedy and breakfast was middling (why hide normal milk?) - But here’s the crunch - i was not expecting a room right next to the dining area, with windows that open onto the smokers meeting patio… i was also expecting a blanket not just a sheet. The room looked nothing like the photo - Being told “sorry” about super loud, loud music till 01.45am is not good enough. £240 a night was totally over the top. My room number was 113 - if you are offered it then politely say no.

Although tucked down a slightly grubby passageway, once you get into the property it is nicely restored and the room is well presented. My room had a balcony opening into the street which was noisy late into the night but ear plugs were provided if required.
The room itself was clean with a toilet and rain-style shower; the bed was comfortable and all fixtures and fittings are modern & working- as was the WiFi.
A buffet style continental breakfast was available at a reasonable price and included the option of bacon and eggs if you asked. A bonus was that you could sit out in the courtyard to enjoy it.
The location is brilliant for La Ramblas and Plaza Real, and close to a station on the Metro from which you can get pretty much anywhere in Barcelona. It’s also only about 15 minutes walk to the port and another 5 to the cable car which takes you over to Montjuic. There are plenty of dining options in the area. Overall a great spot for a few days exploring the city

upon arrival it was quite obvious that the pictures shown online are nothing like what the building or rooms look like.
We travelled with a baby and a lot of bags which was difficult enough, but when we saw the size of the elevator to get to the 3rd floor we knew it was going to be a shocker.
The elevator was only big enough to send 1 bag up at a time and it wasn't big enough to put the pram in, even with no one else or nothing else in the elevator!
The room looked absolutely nothing like the pictures shown online. When i asked the receptionist why the pictures were very different she said that the pics online are from their best room when it was redecorated and it i wanted to see pics of the room we had booked and been allocated then i could have requested them. My family didn't feel comfortable staying at Casa Lirio so we asked for a refund so we could go to a different hotel and were told that they would not issue a refund under any condition. We eventually moved to The Grand Marina Hotel and had a fantastic stay.
I couldn't recommend Casa Lirio any less, it was a shocker, and how they feel that they can use the word \"Boutique\" in their name i will never know!

The noise from outside was horrendous, particularly on the first night. I’m guessing the hotel are already aware of this issue in that particular room because we were given ear plugs in our room on the bedside tables. However, this wasn’t identified when we booked the room. We stayed for 3 nights didn’t spend too much time in the hotel anyway. The location was spot on and just what we needed to visit the places we wanted to.

Fantastic location, walkable to many important landmarks. Close to subway and bike rental, both recommended to get to far away landmarks. Rooms were stylish but basic with amenities. Il we loved enjoying the shared patio in the evening, it was quiet and peaceful. With the patio doors in our room closed, the street noise died away and sleep was easy. The only thing to note is the check in is slightly unorthodox. It was a little hard to find the door to the hotel on the little back street, going inside the foyer felt like entering an apartment complex. We had to find our way to a door on the first floor (one flight of steps up) and get buzzed in to the hotel “lobby”. It was a bit strange and I felt like I was in the wrong place. However, once I figured it out it was easy and I’m glad I stayed there! Just wish these details were clearer to avoid confusion upon arrival.

The pictures are deceptive. This is more like an apartment building than a hotel. The rooms are not as nice as they look in the pictures. The shower was pretty much see through and 2 feet from my bed. The water leaked out into the room and the morning we left there was no hot water. They don’t provide water like all the other hotels. The only good thing I can say is that the beds were comfortable and the location is good. The staff was very good in helping me get checked in after hours.

Staff was polite and friendly. Accommodations were as expected. Comfortable bed. Prompt daily room service and towel refreshes.
Make sure you ask for a room with a window to the outside.
But all in all, since we didn’t spend a lot of time in the room it was a solid experience.

The property is really comfortable and familiar. Small and very clean.

We had a very nice experience at the Hotel. I want to thank to the receptionist Nina, the kitchen lady Elcira and the night reception guy Albert h., they made us to feel comfortable and always had the most amazing attitude and also they were very helpful at any request we had.

I only stayed for 1 night but it was comfortable and sorta fun to find as it doesn't have much of a street presence. A wooden door within a door to enter and a short walk up marble stairs where I was greeted by reception for a friendly check in. Room was comfortable and has heating and cooling. Area was nice as well, short walk to lots of food and interesting sites.

Would have changed hotels in the middle of the stay if it had been refundable. Shower leaked, 1 person elevator, no towels in room, one roll of toilet tissue, no facial tissue, tv did not work and did not have an English option, only cleaned the room once during our stay. Staff was not the friendliest. Would not recommend.

No Communication, I wasn't shared the code to enter the property beyond day 1. Luckily i came on time and met the cleaning crew at the door at night and the individual told me that my code was only valid for 1 day. And he shared the new code. Else I would have been stranded out for the night. Plus, when I left the note to for room service, there was no roof service. I came very tired in my room and no service, no towel. At that time, there was no way to get in touch with anyone. They only operate limited hours. Even when I complaint they told me that I didn't leave the note properly. I followed the instruction, and yet I had to suffer. Not a good way to enjoy the vacation. Plus the shower was not good. There was a gap between door and closure so when you shower water does come to room inside. Even when you call at night no one will pick up the phone so very important to note that. This is nothing but hostel. Not a hotel.

For a two star hotel that is at a lower price point than others nearby, I was very impressed. Its an old building so lots of stairs and old fixtures and fittings but the bedroom was modern and recently renovated. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the room was big and clean and the bed was very comfortable. We even had a little balcony overlooking the outdoor terrace. I would definitely stay here again.
