This would have been a perfect place to stay if it hadn’t been Oscar weekend. This hostel happens to be across from the Dolby theater. I understand the need for security, but when a hostel guest is unable to access their room late at night well after the Oscar’s are over, that is unacceptable.

We were told if we were going out on Oscar day, we couldn’t return until after 10. That’s already ridiculous, but I’ll deal with it. I came back at 10:30 and could not get in. The door to the front of the hostel was 10ft past a security guard who wouldn’t budge. Hostel wouldn’t answer their phone. Absolute insanity that I (and several others) couldn’t access the rooms we paid for!!!

No one knew what they were doing. We had to essentially beg various security guards until they started this absurd relay, handing us off between different guards. We walked half a mile to access a door that was 10ft in front of us. Unbelievable.

If you go any other weekend, this is a fine place to stay, which is why it’s not getting one star, but they have made it very obvious that you as a hostel guest are not a priority. Get your act together for Oscar weekend next year, Samesun. You don’t treat paying guests like this. Make a plan prior to the event, or shut the hostel down if you’re unable to accommodate the free flow of guests.

Based on my conversation with current roommates, I determined that the smell of manure might’ve been from previous occupants therefore, the floors or surface of the room was a clean properly. all room should have some sort of air freshener. The staff was friendly.

Yes, target, cvs, 7-11 and eateries in walking distance. Internet and wi-fi was great, guest were respectful and sociable. Hot water and laundry was down for 1-2 days but everything was great! Would stay again for the price.

Great location, just across the subway station. Rooms are clean and tidy, and it's great that they have curtains for each bunk bed! The locker is a little narrow, I have to squeeze my duffle bag in. Breakfast is great!

I didn't get to stay there, All Thanks to GOD. It's a long story and I won't get to it. Rude personnel. Unclean, 20 stairs flight from the street, a door to enter only sideway because it's so narrow. If you're headed that way, first ditch your luggage because you won't get through yhe narrow door, you can't take your luggage with you so must be pulled up the stairs. It's only for foreigners. It's not for US resident of California.

Extremely friendly staff, especially Clark on reception. Free breakfast between 7-9am was good, nice common areas to sit and connect. Room was clean, had privacy blind which was nice. Separate bathroom had showers, WC and changing area all in separate areas in the bathroom which was spacious. The location was perfect and opposite Hollywood and highland metro - useful for union station or to other places. Area is always busy. I departed at 5am and it was sketchy outside, however many commuters on the metro which helped. Overall, positive experience

I needed a place to sleep for only one night because I was in town to participate in a sports tournament. The location was convenient and close to the venue where I needed to go the next morning. I stayed in a private bedroom.

Firstly, I will point out the greatest negative I experienced. As mentioned, I only needed a place to sleep, and I paid more to stay at a place closer to the venue. Around 2:40am, a group of people came in and spoke extremely loudly. I called the front desk asking what their policy was for the common areas, but before I could request anything, the staff member said they would go to take care of the group, which I appreciated.

At 6:30am in the morning, I heard a woman having a speaker phone call. I needed to wake up at 7am, so I figured I would take the loss and wake up earlier, because there was no way I would be falling back asleep soon even if I were to call the front desk again.

The positives were that their amenities are wonderful and it is a clean hostel. Their kitchen is stocked with utensils and dishes for you to use, as well as refrigerators where you can store your food, and a microwave and toaster. You do need to wash your own dishes.

Unfortunately, overall, I will be giving this establishment only one star because I paid more for a place to sleep, and I did not get the sleep I needed. Next year, I will not be returning. I will be paying less to stay at a hotel a bit further away, where I can get a good night of sleep.

Let's just say I went in with a 2-star expectation and walked out way more than content. I mean, sure, the rooms aren't sound proof, the beds are a little small and creaky, some guests are extra noisy -- but for this price?!

Staff was super friendly and helpful, cleaning services were constantly keeping things tidy, rooms all have keycard locks, free continental breakfast, plenty of outlets, free wifi.... and all at a tourist location? Not a bad price at all. Would defs do again.

Clean room, professional staff. My only recommendation would be to put shelves by the showers in the men’s bathroom, it’s kind of difficult to take a shower when you have nowhere to set your stuff and who wants to walk through a building with 100 different people butt naked. There was only one hook next to the shower that worked the rest of them didn’t work. There was cubbies in the bathroom, but they’re not next to the shower so you would have to walk out of the shower into the public bathroom but naked. Luckily the one hook was able to hold my towel.

I had a valid reservation, but one of your employees—a Black man working at the entrance/front desk—did not allow me to enter. He insulted me using very inappropriate language and even threw away my Green Card.

This was my first time staying at a hostel. I was nervous at first but after seeing a YouTube tour of the place, I felt much better. In person it was so cool! I met people from all over the world, everyone was super nice. Everything was very clean, housekeeping was ON it. When I made my booking I chose a mixed gender room bc I think that was the only option left but when I checked in, the gentleman at the front desk asked me if I wanted to do an all female room and of course I said yes - I was very relieved and happy he was nice enough to do that for me. The only reason I gave \"Area around the property\" 4 stars is bc I got catcalled by a group of guys in the parking lot behind the hostel. Hollywood can be sketchy just be aware of your surroundings! Everything was fine though, there's many tourists around.

Perfectly located on the strip right opposite the metro station. A bit of noise at night but it's not that bad for where it is. Bagels and porridge are the breakfast options Door to the hostel room is hard to open and close and it's a bit cold with the air conditioning always on but the room does the job. It's a lot of stairs to take a suitcase up and down so bare that in mind.

Everything is nice, the location has been an advantage and also disadvantage, as the room faced the Hollywood Blvd and right opposite to Hollywood/Highland station, which caused the noise issue at night, people singing and playing music loudly...Overall the hostel is fabulous with the breakfast, great location and helpful staff.

I probably came during a busy weekend, just need to be patient to wait for the changing room and bathroom, there're only 4 bathrooms for female guests.

was passing through town for a concert, and the hostel made my through the event successful! everything worked out from the lockers they provide you to showering and towels and clean bed linen,… in and out! If that’s how you like it, thats what they can definitely help you out with! very nice, clean and well organized! Good job samesun!

This was my first hostel experience. It wasn’t bad at all. My room was pretty basic. A bed, couple light fixtures, a place to sit, and a table with a vanity mirror. I was happy there was an AC and a ceiling fan. I would stay here again on my future visits to Los Angeles, CA.

I was only there for like 12 hours but it did have many drawbacks. You cannot request a bottom bunk. The bathroom is weirdly set up so it’s hard to find the sinks. There’s no elevator. Everything is a little dingy. The bottom bunk of the bed I got was I think someone who is living there. Covered in stuff, all around on the floor, obstructing the ladder, giving off a strong odor. Breakfast was also set up strangely, with coffee in an entirely separate room from everything else. Basic food, bagels, packet oatmeal.

Amazing Staff – Clark is a True Legend!

I accidentally left my bag at Samesun Hollywood, and honestly thought it was gone for good. But Clark went above and beyond to help me out! He was incredibly friendly, responsive, and genuinely kind. Not only did he find my bag, but he also made sure it was safely shipped back to me.

It’s rare to find people who care this much—Clark made such a stressful situation feel easy and safe. I’m so grateful for his help, and honestly, the whole experience made me love this hostel even more.

If you’re looking for a place with awesome people and warm vibes, Samesun Hollywood is it—and Clark is a superstar. Thank you so much again!

It was a great stay besides all of the stairs and conveniently located. Parking prices suck it is $40 for 24 hours.
