There is nothing you could complain about. The beds are lovely, nice pillows and very cloud like duvet. Perfectly clean and comfortable room. Our dogs were welcome in their pet-friendly rooms and even given a sausage breakfast to their delight. We’ve eaten here many times. The roast is one of the best I’ve ever had. Always the same high standard. This is the vacation “local” pub that you wish your village had. And so reasonably priced for the service and quality.

This was an amazing place to stay. The staff were excellent and friendly. Especially the General Manager Ryan who went above and beyond to make my stay special.

The room was spotless, comfortable, and a great size.

The food in the restaurant was tasty, great choice and huge portions.

I would highly recommend the Sawmills. I shall definitely be returning .

The Sawmill was recommended to us by a friend who stayed last year. We arrived to a warm welcome, by the manager, Ryan. The room was warm and inviting, and had everything we needed, (Water, tea, coffee etc, and hairdryer.

As we had driven from Poole, we wanted to eat in. The fire is brilliant, the staff friendly, and the food worthy of 5 stars.

There was real ale, and lovely melot wine.

BReakfast was huge, and filling, all cooked fresh. We would recommend it to anyone.

No problems to report. New management so it takes time to adjust. Have stayed a few times not expensive. There’s always gonna be that one waitress you don’t respond too but there’s other waiters and waitresses and I won’t let this review spoil it for them! Would stay again

The room was a good size and modern. I've stayed here before but in a different room. This room was quite noisy at night from a motor running in a building outside my window. The bed was comfortable and there were plenty of towels. I did find it a bit strange that the room wasn't serviced daily even though it says so on the website. But I asked for clean cups and they were brought up to me.
The cooked breakfast was plentiful and well cooked. But there is no option other than a cooked breakfast. So no cereals, fruit etc. And no marmalade for toast.
The service provided by the staff in the bar and dining room is first class. I remembered Sue from last year. She's such a friendly lady and clearly understands what customer service is all about!! I don't know the names of the rest of the staff but they are a credit to the pub!

Great quality rooms over a really lovely pub - I recently stayed 2 nights at the Sawmill’s as part of a group booking of all 4 rooms as we were attending a local wedding.
Quality of the rooms is fantastic, especially the larger room 1. Great showers, clean nice facilities, fresh & well decorated rooms. Breakfast was also included which was really good food and made the overall cost of stay really reasonable. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed here for 2 nights for a wedding nearby. I usually expect pub rooms to be a bit hodge podge, but the sawmills were very hotel-esque. Done to a very nice finish. The room was too warm but as it was over the kitchen we couldn't open the windows due to the smell from kitchen extractor fan.

Great location for us visiting family - setting is excellent and outside area with water, lots of baskets of flowers is very enticing. Decor in the Inn and the rooms is exceptional. This might be picky but a soap dispenser over the hand basin would be useful. The staff were so friendly and helpful and made the stay memorable.

The staff were lovely. They were very accommodating and provided all the requests made.
The breakfast was very tasty, and my partner was recommending it to our friends (which is a big thing).
The room size was good. It's spacious (however, the shower room was a little snug). The room looked exactly like the photos, so that is a plus.
We had dinner at the pub with our friends, everyone enjoyed their meal and I really liked the live band. We were singing the songs.

Not so great
There was no air conditioning (we stayed during a heatwave), which was very concerning for me. I would like to add that the staff provided me a fan, which I really appreciated
The room was tidy. But I am a neat feak, so seeing spiderwebs wasn't ideal.


Overall, I would recommend the place. I really liked the water feature near the car park.

This was our second stay at the Sawmills, the staff , the room and the service continue to be excellent. We will continue to stay at the Sawmills when next return to North Devon for its location and for its value for money. Only criticism would be to offer a non cooked breakfast such as porridge or cereal plus orange juice , evening meals could be improved to offer fresh season vegetables rather than chips. A most enjoyable stay.

A clean and tidy room with a modern open building including the dining area and bar. Very busy when we were there and staff pressed with new young employees in training. Food as expected, whilst no cereals with breakfast - the full English was perfect. Friendly staff on the whilst but one member (they will know who they are) has a lot to learn when dealing with customers.

My wife and i had a 5 night break here in the dog friendly room 2. The weather was excellent which did mean we could get the most out of the area. The room was perfectly clean and modern and enough space even with a dog crate. The room is not serviced but you can ask for items (milk etc) when needed. Staff were all very nice and helpful. We ate in for 3 nights and all the meals were perfect. We had the full English (and meat free option) every day. It was so good and plentiful that we barely bought lunch all week. Plenty of parking, good sitting out area in full evening sun (if its out), walks from the door. Watermouth Castle is definately worth a visit and a must do with children, and the 301 bus stop is right outside. Watermouth Bay is a pretty harbour with super family run cafe, but note that this is not a sandy beach. A very nice place to stay.

The bathroom was only a tiny ensuite so wish they had given more of the room area to this, but it was new condition, great shower, spotlessly clean. Food at the restaurant was consistently outstanding, including the breakfast, and service was great too. We loved the area and will very likely go back. If you don't have a car, the bus service is good but watch out for taxis not being available unless prebooked, many hours or even days in advance.

Dont stay overnight if you want a continental style breakfast- only full English available with disgusting instant coffee. Shame as we looked forward to staying there as we pass it regularly and it looks so inviting. Hopefully better in season rather than in February.

I booked The Sawmills as it was close to where a family member lives and had no idea how great it would be. It is so well run by John, the food is fantastic, all the staff are great, the chairs by the fire are super comfy (the ideal spot for an excellent baked Camembert) and the rooms are incredibly clean. Oh and the espresso martinis are first class and the full English breakfast was just about as good as they get. I highly recommend this place and I never normally leave reviews. Will definitely be returning!

Met my good walking friend here. We walked the coastal path from the Sawmills to Lee Bay. The coastal path was a stones throw from the pub. Staff were able to signpost us to the path well. They even checked us into our room at 0945 !!!! Wow!! Loved the fairy lights on our return! Loved the menu: we both had curry, one fish, one sweet potato... So yummy!!! Lovely comfy room and dog friendly too!! After out 9 miles,and a quick end of day dip in Coombe Martin, we both loved the huge sunflower showerhead and loved the wood burning fire!!! Smashing full breakfast before setting off the next morning and such friendly staff. Very attentive . Please please please make Irish / tipple style coffees possible!!! That would have crowned my evening !!! Would definitely recommend the Sawmills to friends and stay again!! Thank you!!

A wonderful stay at sawmills!
My husband and I were visiting family in Devon and chose sawmills for the location.
Staff were extremely attentive & friendly as we had breakfast and dinner.
Menu had a good choice and food delicious.
Room was very clean and modern.will be back.

The Sawmills is a really excellent venue. The food options were amazing, it is the best breakfast I’ve ever had and the rooms were a good size and clean! I have already recommended staying here to friends and family who are planning to visit the area, and we are planning a trip to come back just to stay here again! The staff were really friendly and helpful. It was an absolute delight to stay here and an all-round great experience.

The Sawmills was very near to the wedding venue that we were attending. It was quiet and very comfortable. We only ate breakfast there but it was excellent. The only small downside was that the bathroom was very small, but very clean and well appointed

Really lovely staff, and a lovely room. Good value for money. Our only gripe (minor) was not having the room serviced during our stay, which meant running out of toilet paper - aside from this, the pub/restaurant is really cosy, the setting is beautiful, breakfast is delicious, and the staff were brilliant. Would stay again!

We have just returned from a one night stay at the Sawmills and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the Combe Martin area. Our room was lovely, spotlessly clean and very stylish with a small but very adequate en suite bathroon. Bar and outdoor seating areas also lovely. We weren’t very hungry having eatenearlier whilst we were out and about but did order nachos to share which were delicious and more than enough for the two of us. The bed was honestly the most comfortable hotel bed we have ever slept in and the room was so peaceful, we had a really good nights sleep. In the morning we went down to the bar for our breakfast, again one of the best b&b breakfasts we’ve experienced. All of the staff were lovely, thank you, we will definitely be returning.

We did find the en-suite a bit tight the vanity unit was too close to the toilet due to the size of the room we were unable to use the wc properly ?
Also we had an issue with the uht milk it appeared to be off when making tea it would not desolve in the cup not pleasant
we were surprised the tea making facility was not replenished we had to take our dirty cups to the bar and get fresh cups for the next day and pick up fresh milk and tea bags we felt the b&b should have at least tidied our tea making facility neither was our bin emptied during our 3day stay
