Good hotel, comfy room, friendly helpful staff. However, I booked through hotels.com they wouldn't give me a receipt because I hadn't booked with them direct. Strange because I get a receipt everywhere else I book with hotels.com. My credit card statement shows that The Barnstaple Hotel had taken the money too! Just be aware if you are on a business trip and need a receipt for your expenses.

We had a very pleasant stay at the barnstable hotel , the staff were eztremely helpful and friendly nothing was too much . The entire hotel was spotlessly clean , the food was excellent both breakfast and dinner i would definately return and recomend to anyone

Great for a night away

The room was spacious and newly decorated, with a very comfy bed, and all spotless. Staff were very friendly and helfpul. The pool and sauna were a great bonus (note that the saunas are in the changing rooms, one for women and one for men).

The room was outside of the main hotel. The room was very cold with a single radiator which didn’t warm the room. I am sure the rooms in the main building are ok, but the outside rooms are cold. I would NOT recommend this hotel on the basis that you may end up with an outside room.

My first stay at this hotel and I was pleasantly impressed, the decors around the whole hotel was very modern and slick, all the staff were polite and the room was lovely, my evening meal and breakfast were exceptional, I’ve booked for two more nights next week and will also use their gym facilities.

Nice place but a few annoying things …

Ok stay… room is clean and modern, bathroom is tired. No bottles of water available in the room which is a shame, considering the price. The cups and saucers are again old fashioned, can’t make the hot chocolate in the cup as it’s too small and annoyingly there is a balcony light which is controlled by the hotel and switches off at 12am so if you like pitch darkness when you sleep, you won’t get that. Gym also opens at 7am so if your an early gym goer, may not work for you

The room was too warm at 28 even with window open. The air conditioner wasn’t working properly an£ stopped when it got to 25!
We asked for help and was told the windows needed to be closed bu5 even though we did this th3 temp just rose to 27
The night staff said the air conditioners have not been emptied and we could hav a free second night, but I would rather have my money. I wouldn’t want to stay in a room not hot again. The facilities weren’t brilliant either.

Booked a pool view room (24) for my wife and her friend at extra cost but when she arrived the room was very noisy due to pool machinery. She complained and it wasnt possible to allocate another twin room and was told it would stop at 11pm but it didnt and they got very little sleep. Ruined the stay. Emailed hotel manager after got home but no response from the hotel which was disappointing

Dated hotel that reminds me of an old American motel or Butlins, really run down needs a big renovation, the bathrooms are vile and the towels are dirty and smell damp. The bedroom is basic and dull, dirty cups and spoons strange smell and no bottled water, it gives off a Butlins vibe when you look at it from the pool side, just really grimy I wouldn’t stay again even if the staff were nice, couldn’t wait to leave so left before 6:30am

Great hotel if you just want to use the very well presented facilities inside the hotel confines.

It's easy to find but sitting on the edge of an industrial estate. Its a 15 minute walk into the centre of the town.

Worthy of a 5* rating

Absolutely gob-smacked when we arrived at the Barnstaple Hotel, it was fantastic and totally unexpected. Staff were lovely, ambience great and it was just so welcoming. It was a fairly last minute booking, a one night stay and I hadn't really taken much notice of reviews etc. Great regret that I hadn't packed my swim-wear as the pools looked so enticing. Our room was so comfortable, such a shame that we couldn't spend longer there. Couldn't fault the hotel at all and we will definitely make a point of returning to Barnstaple and spending a few days at the Barnstaple Hotel, it was a holiday in itself.

Nice hotel within 15 minutes walk to the town centre. We had a room overlooking the outside pool, it was clean and nicely furnished. We didn’t use the indoor pool as there were quite a few children in there ( it was Easter holidays so this was to be expected) however my husband used the gym and was very impressed with the facilities. Would book again

Average stay

We received an upgraded room on arrival due to a wedding celebration taking place which was close to our room. Our room however was quite noisy anyway due to facing the industrial unit next door who were working from early until quite late at night. Also the heating was very noisy at various points. Staff were all pleasant at reception and in the bar. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was comfortable.

What a lovely garden room very fresh and modern feel with all the amenities within you could want. A wonderful shower, probably one of the best hotel showers I've had it was powerful and great pressure and temperature. Lovely décor and a lovely comfortable bed. Really nice well maintained gardens and property.

Hotel has changed since last there (10y ago) and has improved further. In this case, stayed with elderly mother.
If hotel has plans to install a lift to upper floors would be big benefit. Room I had was with a wet room which for elderly is better than a shower in a bath which my mother was unable to use due to mobility issue

Pretty good standard for price . Room and bathroom good. Food at barvwas really good . Staff were very friendly. I was in room 3 and the sound deadening between rooms was very poor. When the chap next door made a phone call I could hear the other person's voice and on the other side of me I could hear the ladies have a wee!

Clean and tidy a little bit worn in areas.

The hotel is lovely the only thing is it does not have a lift so if you struggle with mobility it’s a bit difficult, there are some ground floor rooms but not many.

Staff can not be nicer and helpful.

Well looked after, no lift to upper floor was a pain, and our room was right at the end of the building quite a hike, room was nice and had the usual facilities, balcony was a plus, shame no breakfast inc in room rate, asked and was told about £16 a head.. bit pricey when wife only eats porridge and toast, mc Donald’s again … pleasant stay and will use again 😀

Half term mini break

We had a fabulous stay at the Barnstable Hotel, all of the staff we encountered were friendly, welcoming and accommodating at all times. The hotel was comfortable and the facilities were all excellent. The breakfasts were fabulous a great choice for all guests including a specials choice for those that wanted it. The restaurant was also great in the evening and the food was excellent and a great selection for children. We would definitely stay here again

I would imagine if you had an inconsiderate guest staying next door, the noise would make sleeping impossible. We were lucky, we had a quite guest, but but could still hear her every move. I am not sure that much can be done about that. Having said this, we had a lovely one night stay and would definitely come again.

Wonderful stay!

We had a lovely family stay on Saturday night. The room was clean, spacey and had a cot ready for us. The pool was very warm and my baby had lots of fun swimming. Husband enjoyed the gym and bar and all encounters with staff were pleasant, would definitely stay again.

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in - stayed an extra night as so impressed. Immaculately clean,very well maintained, excellent food and superb service - nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they are all friendly, helpful and professional. Had a lovely room with king size bed and balcony. An old 60’s motel, modernised sympathetically it has great facilities with indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and huge gym. Only negative - indoor pool was too warm and no steam room. Car parking easy right outside. Near the ‘tarka trail’ river walk and a 15 min walk into Barnstaple town centre.

Great for a 3 star hotel. Really good service, very clean and well maintained.
Had a 1st floor pool view room, great size and good view.
All the staff were very helpful and friendly at all times. Covid restrictions meant everything was table service which we actually found better normal self service and was very efficient in all areas.
The only downside is probsbly why they cannot get 4 stars...there is no lift uo to the first floor. Other than that should be a good 4 star property.

Sadly disappointing anniversary break

Rooms old decrepit and worse than staying in a travelodge - photos on your site are no way representative of the actual rooms - was expecting much better at £130 a night. Would never stay with this hotel brand again.
This stay ruined our anniversary and as an overworked nhs worker who was in much need of a quiet break it fell very short of our expectations - went home a day early

The rooms were dated(we didn’t see those online, we only saw the newly decorated ones but, unfortunately we did not get to sleep in one of those) but clean. No fridge. Our rooms were on the ground floor, there’s constant noise at night, paper thin walls, woke up many times during the night, very early morning, as other guests were chatting, children running up and down, shouting. There’s no sign politely asking no running (or at least asking parents to look after their children).
Both swimming pools are heated, nice and clean, there’s loads of towels one can use.
No housekeeping, due to COVID but that’s totally fine.
Breakfast choice is poor, but the service is good, especially the polish girls did a very good job. Dinner not bad.

The hotel is easy to find and inviting. Staff were efficient and polite. The bar and dining area is inviting, modern and comfortable and the food was excellent with pricing comparable to a local pub. The bedroom was comfortable, clean and spacious, the bathroom had a bath which was lovely as so many only have showers nowadays. We felt the stay reflected value for money and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again

Room was very nice, bed very firm, bathroom cold, a bit shabby and would have been better to have a shower panel rather than a shower curtain as floor got flooded and was very slippery after a shower. The hotel on the exterior doesn’t look much but inside I was very pleasantly surprised! It was as the pics. The facilities were fab and staff friendly! On arrival we received kids passes which allowed them free drinks and ice cream (limited choice but a fab gesture)! The mattresses were too firm for us as were the pillows but overall we enjoyed our stay.
