Lovely place to stay.

The hotel was very clean. We had some minor issues which were immediately resolved by the very lovely hotel staff. The owners were very friendly and spoke to us every day.

Great stay!

Really enjoyed our stay at Trimstone Manor. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful, great service. Stunning countryside surroundings and wildlife. We stayed in a lovely spacious room at the front with a 4 poster bed and great view of the gardens and scenery. Nice and clean with everything we needed and more, wasn’t expecting a fridge :-) very handy as we booked a room rather than a self catering cottage. Enjoyed a swim in the pool, the pool barn has feature of big water mill wheel which I thought was pretty impressive! Very tasty breakfast cooked fresh to order everyday and again great service from friendly staff. We are animal lovers and loved all of the different birds (especially Splash!). Great base location for visiting local beaches. The tarka cycle trail is also close by, we drove a short distance to Braunton and cycled to Barnstaple and back again. We would love to go back and would highly recommend.

Building work going on which would have been nice to to be informed of, we couldn't even park outside our own unit, Builders vans and materials everywhere we almost felt in the way?? overall it was very Disappointing as there was no restaurant and no Bar, but if we wanted a drink they would open the bar if we asked? But they would do a breakfast at £12 per head?? but we didn't want to risk it? so we ate out.
We could walk around the grounds which included the upside down trampoline and the on site scrap yard!!! probably wont go back. so disappointing as it was a present for us. I hope they turn it around. its a lovely area but better places to stay.

What a gem of a place to stay, nothing to find fault with at all the staff were very friendly and approachable. We had freshly cooked breakfasts with plenty of choice. If you like nature and old fashioned charm you can’t go wrong here with walks, ducks, turkeys, emu’s and more. We were lucky enough to have fantastic weather for our trip so sat outside in the beautiful gardens while having drinks in the evening. Spotlessly clean and would definitely stay again.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting. The building is old and authentic but is in need of some refurbishment. The bed was particularly creaky! Overall a pleasant stay but not happy about being charged £25 to charge our car for one night!

Sadly the wether was rubbish ,however thats nothing to do with the Hotel. We were checked in by a very frendly manager and shown to the room .The heating was off however the manager soon turned it on. I came to make a cup of tea and one of the sausers was dirty.we also found the glasses to be dirty and strands of hair on the top of the bed. Rest of the room was clean and nicely decorated. The matress could do with replacement (very lumpy). The dinning room and lounge was very nice.

On arrival the Hotel gardens were well kept but the hotel seemed tired
Our room was basic but clean.
The purpose of out break was for our Anniversary, to stay swim and have a meal.
When booked in June 2019 for a Sept 2019 stay, the details said luxurious hotel with restaurant and swimming pool.
The pool was covered up and had an unused feel (although they did uncover this after mentioning) and we were informed that the Hotel had not had a chef for all of the summer but we had no contact to advise us of this. The alternative was to drive to Woolacombe and not be able to have a drink or back to Bude where we were camping, we did this as a better option! We were very disappointed that we had not been advised so we handed the keys back and left.

Never Again!!!!!!

Our window sills were filthy. The towels were stained, and the pillows and bedding unsatisfactory! We were tempted to not stay there at all! We had no housekeeping for the entire weekend! Our bed was unmade and our tea cups from the morning were left in our room. At one stage I walked past another person who had just checked in and he was asking the \"unprofessionally dressed\" lady at the reception desk if there was a leak in their room as it smelt very muggy and her response was \" that's just the way the rooms smell\". There was not a sole in the restaurant at any time while we were there, and no one about to help with requests. On Saturday evening we needed some plates and knives and forks to eat some dinner that was purchased from somewhere else and no one was around to help me? I had to go into the very eerie restaurant and take 2 side plates and a knife and fork from one of the tables! The pool was clean and warm but also very dirty around the pool. When my kids noticed a trampoline in the garden they were very excited but on approaching it, we saw it was torn! The tennis court is overgrown with weeds. All in all, we will never visit this property again, it is poorly managed, and really needs a completely new fresh approach. The rooms needs updating and you should really consider hiring better more presentable staff as well as a permanent house keeper to clean and to aid your guest when they require assistance.

It was booked at the last minute quite late on so didn't manage to eat there but the pub recommendation was great. Comfy bed, friendly staff and a great cooked breakfast (not included in stay).

The house seems lovely. I was the only one there so they seemed to forget about me. Not even offered a clean towel. Pool freezing can't use, gym no good at all and the sauna was off. As I only booked it for the facilities you can imagine how disappointed I was. Even checked out 2 days early. Sorry but its the truth. I'm sure in the summer when people are around and things are working as they should I can see it would be a great place.

A little neglected but good for dogs.

Funny place this and difficult to review fairly. We enjoyed our stay especially as the hotel is \"dog friendly\". It is ideally placed between Woolacombe and Ilfracombe near Mullacott Cross. The room (Knowle) was a little bit small and if we had a bigger dog it would have been a problem - but larger dog-friendly rooms are available. The room was on the ground floor with it's own patio outside and a garden beyond that so easy to let the dog out. Strangely there is an odd collection of birds in an aviary on the other side of the garden. The negatives are that the hotel seems to be run by the owners and it is as if the place has become too much for them to handle. The gardens are overgrown in places and there is too much vegetation growing up the front of the building almost as if it is derelict. On one morning we were not served breakfast and had to go into town to eat. There is a very nice indoor swimming pool and sauna area but it needed to be uncovered just for us and I didn't feel right imposing myself on the owners. Having said that we're likely to return as it is ideal for dog owners and they had rooms available at short notice.

We wanted a quiet break and that is exactly what Trimstone offers. A friendly welcome by the Hotel manager who showed us our accommodation which was a quiet cottage style room away from the main hotel. This suited us very well as we had taken our little dog who eats fresh meat and so the fridge was very useful. Room was lovely warm and clean. My husband accidentally spilt some coffee on the bedding and the sheet was changed without any fuss. Also fresh milk was put in the fridge. These little things make a holiday as far as we are concerned. I used the pool which again was lovely and warm and a short walk form our accommodation.
Breakfast was very good with a fresh choice of fruit, cereals etc.every morning and the option of hot food.
We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday evening and the food was very good and well presented.
We enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again soon.

Lovely setting, friendly but a bit snooty

The hotel was in a lovely setting. Quiet as we hoped it would be. It seem to welcome families but we were told by the manager that she normally sends them down the road to eat because some guests can be quite snooty. Clearly we were not of the same class!

Lovely setting for quiet, relaxed break. Hotel standards very high. Cleanliness very apparent throughout the hotel. Management and staff were very attentive nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent. The room overlooked the wonderful countryside, beds were very comfortable and overall standards were very high.

Placed very close to both Ilfracombe and Woolacombe, it's A roads most of the way but the final stretch is a rather ravelled and very narrow road, so go slow and hope no-one comes barrelling round in the other direction - especially from the Woolacombe end of Trimstone Lane as the road is largely below ground level and particularly unblessed either with straight views ahead or indeed with passing-places!
Hotel itself is reasonably presented with great views over land, there are rare-breed chickens in pens in the next field and some rather imperious peacocks and peahens who roam wherever they like. We went the weekend before Valentine's, the place was empty the first night apart from ourselves, and there was one other couple the second night. While not chilly in any sense, the room wasn't as warm as some hotels one has stayed at, but then again the place must be a nightmare to heat and of course the season hasn't really started.
That was underlined when we found the indoor pool, though filled, wasn't yet heated. However the sauna (coin-operated, £1 for ten minutes) was in working order, so we had it to ourselves both days. Following a sound of dripping at the other end of the pool, I came to an alcove and what did I see but a magnificent, obviously-once-used though now sadly rusted waterwheel which must have been 30ft in diameter. Low railings separated it from the pool area, and it was a looooooong way down to the rocky bottom, so keep hold of your kids!

I wasn't sure about this from the website but it's amazing; huge family room and bathroom with space for two teenagers. Free wi fi that works, a games room and a lovely pool. It's a bit dated but I would rather have the space and so easy to get to Woolacombe, Croyde etc

Has a lot of potential but poorly managed

A nice building in the countryside. The staff were nice and obliging. It has a lot of potential but has been managed so poorly. It has been allowed to be run down. Lot of broken or non-functional furniture and equipment. The swimming pool area very dirty. The gardens are big but not impressive. Beds are rather springy. Slap on furniture and no particular theme. The drive to the manor is through extremely narrow country road with overgrown bushes. You cannot escape without scratching the paintwork off your car.

1 night's stay for business.

Stayed 1 night for business. Got a good rate, and the reviews were good. Arrived late at night (around 10.30pm) so didn't get the chance to use the fitness centre. Room was comfortable, good selection of complimentary teas. The owner was very hospitable. The cooked breakfast was delicious. The only downside was the location - dark, narrow road leading up to the hotel. Also in the middle of nowhere. Otherwise, very good overall. Would stay here again.

Quiet, relaxing location

Attended my friends' wedding, stayed in the hotel for three nights. I had a goodnight sleep the night before the wedding which finished nearly midnight. Had a peaceful, relaxing Sunday in the hotel the following day.
All the staff are pleasant and kind. Courteous and accommodating.
My room was clean and serviced everyday. Loved the garden view from my window. Adored the sunrise while having a cup of tea.
Didn't have much plan during my visit as my stay was just because I attended an occassion but I really had a wonderful stay.

The hotel is not to far from the beaches at woolacombe but far enough away to be set in a beautiful and peaceful surroundings with an amazing heated swimming pool perfect anytime for a dip
