We had a one night stay at the commodore. Lovely, welcoming and friendly staff. Nice room but the air con was very noisy and had to turn it off because of this overnight. Otherwise, I couldn’t fault this hotel.

We were very happy with our stay at the Commodore and would recommend it highly. Before our stay, I was concerned about location, but it’s a very easy walk and safe walk to the V&A waterfront. The breakfast was excellent. The actual dining room while we were there was closed for a few days as they did some work on it, but the outdoor dining area was opened as was the bar area so I think they handled that situation very well. We ate dinner there one night and the food was excellent, but the service could have been better. We had a suite on the sixth floor and it was wonderful with a lovely view.

Home away from home. I stayed at the Commodore half time of my visit of Cape Town and I loved it! It is a bit pricy than other hotels but it is so worth it! First, great spacious, comfortable and quiet room with a view of the pool. Second, I enjoyed their awesome immaculate sauna and steam room + gym, which provide relaxing comfort. Lastly, their staff is attentive without being overwhelming and chasing you for tips, like in the other hotel I stayed. For example, I needed an extension with a converter to charge my phone and use my electric brush, and the maintenance gentleman (Edwin) came and helped and made sure my room was at the right temperature and I knew the channels to watch movies (so sweet!) thanks Edwin! Finally, the breakfast has so many yummy options that I did not have enough time to try it all. All in all, I would always come back. What a nice, cozy and well located hotel!

Location is fantastic, cross a road and you're in the thick of it in the Waterfront. Area felt safe. Room was average sized, but nice and clean, with comfortable bed and decent shower (no bath in our room). Staff are excellent throughout...reception, concierge, restaurant, cleaning...can't fault any of the people who were friendly and always helpful.

We had a very difficult start, to find (without any notification) that the pool was out of use for refurb. We were steered towards pool at neighbouring property, Portswood. After some strong representations from ourselves, the issue was picked up, with good grace, by Simon and Melissa who - for us - saved the reputation of the hotel. The pool reopened looking good on our last day.

When I was staying there the renovating the pool would be nice to know about that before I turned up. Yes there was another pool to use but it was a bit of a hike. The other thing is a little bit disgruntled about the flexibility. I had to change my plans and I gave him three days notice to shorten my trip by a day. They were capacity and probably rented out my room but they wouldn’t give me a credit for the last day.

The swimming pool was being rebuilt. No notification of this was given on booking with Hoteks.com. The noise was terrible with drilling throughout the day. Through breakfast to early evening. I videoed the carnage and will be uploading to social media.

I was looking for a hotel close to the V&A Waterfront where I could walk to the waterfront and feel safe. This hotel fit the bill and I have to say it felt really safe walking the few blocks to the waterfront even when it was dark. Location wise, it was perfect for me.
The front desk staff was also excellent. I dealt with a number of them and they were uniformly helpful, friendly and professional.
The hotel also serves up a very good buffet breakfast.

I booked 3 suites and a regular room for 5 nights. 4 days with no hot water. Each day we told the front desk and they said they would call maintenance with no sumpathy. We had a busy work trip and could not shower. Day 2 the water started smelling really bad, a toxic chemical smell. The hotel guests were not notified of this. On day 4 When we asked we were told they were “purifying” the water. I asked why we were not notified and magically within an hour we received a letter under our door notifying us. We had to use bottled water to brush our teeth. Bottled water was not replenished daily either.
On our last day my son got violently ill with a stomach virus. We took him to a doctor and was told that it was due to contaminated water most likely from the hotel purification.
Hotel did nothing to offer alternative solutions or compensate besides offering a free dinner at there restaurant on the last day. 2 star hotel at best.
Hotel management has not acknowledged or responded to date.
On our last day my son got violently ill with a stomach virus. We took him to a doctor and was told that it was due to contaminated water most likely from the hotel purification.

We have stayed at the V and A waterfront before and the Commodore combines great location, great value for money, nice spacious rooms (junior suite), good food and in depth quality of staff. The hotel is a safe, level 5 minute walk from the V and A waterfront. They not only managed to get us checked in before the official time, but front desk, bell staff, cleaning staff particularly were well above average.
When we checked in the staff were a little apologetic that some guests find the themed decor dated and old fashioned. This is nonsense. If it is clean, well maintained and tasteful it is not a negative it is a positive. The Commodore hotel has character! We will be back next year.
