Completely Unacceptable for a “5-Star Resort”

When paying a premium price at a luxury, 5-star resort, you have certain expectations and standards to uphold. My room was infested with gnats and ants — not just a few, enough to make it feel like I was camping, not staying at an upscale resort. To make matters worse, the entire room reeked of sewage and feces. The smell was overwhelming and completely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one that advertises itself as high-end.

No amount of amenities or pretty scenery can make up for the fact that the basic standards of cleanliness and comfort were completely ignored. I brought these issues to the staff’s attention, but the response was underwhelming at best. I was greatly disappointed.

Beautiful estate!

The estate is absolutely stunning. It was clean, gorgeous, and super comfortable. I was very pleased with the aesthetic and amenities. I found the food underwhelming which was disappointing based on the intention and care the place puts on having fresh, farm to table food.

BEAUTIFUL complete resort…what you imagine when visiting Tuscany for an ultra high end experience. Everything was fantastic including the dining in all 3 restaurants…I highly recommend experiencing all 3 restaurants and at least 2x each (Osteria Del Borro should be Michelin rated with 2-stars, it’s heaven…I recommend their tasting menu that’s full of surprise extras, like 6 extra tastings). Best included breakfast ever in a beautiful setting with super large wine cellar. All 3 infinity pools are luxurious, provide full conveniences such as wait, bar, food, and towel services. The staff is awesome, so kind, courteous and identify guests are there for a high end experience. Take the wine & cheese tour it’s not only charming and interesting, but you’ll likely meet good folks/other guests. Our villa was absolutely magnificent and included a large steam shower, backyard perfect for wine tasting, complimentary bottle of IL Borro wine and unlimited drinks replaced 2x daily. IL Borro also celebrates the Ferragamo family (who we saw on property) and brand with select Ferragamo items for purchase, we indulged. Plan to send a case or 2 of wine home, their shipping to the States is completely reasonable and their IL Borro 2020 Tuscana (red - drinks like a Cabernet Sauvignon) is full bodied, well balanced, great flavors…we loved it, and is priced well. We cracked many of their whites and rose’s, both great, as we visited in June/summer. Needless to say, we will be back!!

A Truly Enchanting Stay at Il Borro

I recently spent three unforgettable days at Il Borro, and it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside. The property is immaculately maintained and offers a perfect balance of luxury and authenticity.

We stayed in a spacious villa that offered both comfort and charm—an ideal setting for relaxation. The staff were exceptionally helpful and welcoming, always going the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect.

One of the highlights was the food. The pizza was some of the best we've ever had, and the overall dining experience was fantastic, especially when paired with Il Borro’s impressive selection of wines. The wine tour was both informative and enjoyable, giving us a deeper appreciation for the estate’s rich winemaking heritage.

The spa experience was another standout—peaceful, professional, and just what we needed to unwind. Every aspect of our stay felt carefully curated and indulgent.

We’re already planning to return, hopefully for a longer stay next time. Il Borro is a true gem in the heart of Tuscany, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and luxurious escape.

Our experience at Il Borro was absolutely wonderful! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff. Everyone was very helpful.
Our rooms were absolutely stunning, complete with amenities (robe, slippers, etc.) We ate at Osteria Del Borro, which was a wonderful experience; the food was fantastic. The breakfast options were also very plentiful, and the food very fresh. We loved exploring the grounds and would definitely recommend doing a wine tasting. We did the Drops of Jupiter Experience.
Our family is looking forward to returning to Il Borro in the near future!

An over priced gimmick. The place barely has any staff. Breakfast experience is a nightmare. Good luck getting a place to sit and good luck getting any service. Took 45 minutes and chasing services to finally get a coffee that was cold. Nice concept - but not the service is non existent!!!

Il Borro is the very best of Tuscany! An exceptional retreat with fantastic service, great food, and some of the best wine in Italy. Not to mention horseback riding — the resort has more horses than staff. The perfect way to unwind and spend some great time together as a couple or a family. We will definitely be back!

Overall a disappointment! For this price, there are a lot of other hotels you could stay in that are in a better location (the drive to the hotel is particularly unattractive) and have better amentities. For a small hotel, I found the service a bit lacking and impersonal. The grounds were also very disappointing (don't be fooled by the marketing materials, they are not well kept). Weeds, brown water in the fountains, and the gardens are not maintained. The biggest disappointment however was the restaurant, the food was pricey but uninspired (my bf had roasted meat and mashed potatoes that looked like wedding food) and not very interesting. The one pro is the wine is very good but still definitely would not recommend staying here!

The place is beautiful and the room are very pleasant, but the staff is not very professional, young and unprepared (for example, at breakfast one waitress took from our table the bottle of orange juice that we ordered so that she could pour some juice to a lady at another table, \"because they did not have anymore juice\"!?) , there was not enough staff at night (we had to wait 15 minutes to get the entrance gates opened one evening after dinner, because the only person working at at that time was occupied driving some other guests from the main receipt to the rooms, which are located 5 minutes walking/driving from the reception), the rooms have a heating problem (we were 6 people in 3 rooms, one of which was freezing for all the 3 nights we stayed, even if we asked to find a solution, while another was boiling hot all time, even with the heating set on OFF). Also, this little holiday was a gift from my father to his son and daughter and their respective wife and husband, but the hotel left on the last day in each room the bill of the hotel, so everyone saw it.
The structure of Il Borro is beautiful, even if very unpractical: to have breakfast you have to wear your coat and walk 5 minutes to the breakfast location. Also, there is no indoor swimming pool, while we saw a photo of a indoor pool when booking, which is actually part of a private villa in Il Borro, and therefore not accessible.
All the above is not in line with a Relais & Châteaux hotel and the cost of this place.

Tuscany at its best

This an amazing property in a most beautiful Tuscan setting. The heated infinity pool is incredible. The restaurants are outstanding and the estates wines our brilliant and make sure you book a wine tasting with Florence. The staff and all very friendly and most professional. The view are incredible and our suite was more like a luxurious Tuscan villa, massive bedroom, bathroom and living room including a large dinning table. The property as great walking trails, golf course and even its own ancient chapel and castle ruin. This is a very special property in a beautiful part of Italy.

Enchanting Vacation Spot

The location is a bit off the beaten path, which is nice for us but may be challenging for some. Definitely cannot understate how nice this place is though. In all respects a very enchanting experience. I would recommend a longer stay. There is a lot to do, and with the distance you have to travel to get there, you should set aside at least a day to just relax. The staff will make that easy for you, they handle everything very promptly.

Facilities good but not all available. N.B. Pools are not heated. Restaurants were fully booked during our stay (considering this is a resort, we had to leave to get food which was not what we were expecting). Sadly, the 'resort' is open to public as the suites are in converted medieval village buildings and is itself a tourist attraction so was not the serene/peaceful resort we expected. Beautiful location, sadly poorly executed. Service excellent.

My Wife and I had a great stay for our anniversary. The rooms, restaurants, and service were all top notch. It's a unique property with great character. We loved the cellar tour and tasting as well as the horseback riding. The spa was great and I loved getting out of their golf range and 3 hole course as well. I would highly recommend

We stayed in one to the villas - benefits of private villa in Tuscany with the services of a 5 star hotel. Nice wine cellar, great food, wonderful area, very warm people...just great. Only issue was that we didn't want to explore the area as so much to enjoy at the hotel!

Not so good - check in staff abrupt and unhelpful. Were if not for the superb staff (with one exception) at the restaurants and the overall quality of the restaurants, we would have left.
Service POOR compared to Il Botaccio (another relais & Chateau where the care warmth and quality were second to none).
The balance between 'mass tourism' -buses, groups, roll them in and out; and personal service to individual guests such as ourselves is wrong.
Your advertising (web page) is AGGRESSIVELY misleading, intimating a beautiful building as the main residential location rather that a difficult to get to medieval village with no real 'life' to it. Parking not good at all -difficult and indeed a little dangerous. A pity given its outstanding potential

Il Borro is an amazing Relais & Chateaux property located in what used to be a medieval Tuscan village. There entire village has been converted into a resort with delicious food and excellent staff.It was a perfect place to get away and relax for my honeymoon.

Picturesque village in a quiet corner of Tuscany

Il Borro truly hit all marks for a unique and luxurious stay in Tuscany. The location is a bit removed from the traditional or well-traveled parts of Tuscany, but is perfect if you are seeking quiet, rural and unblemished landscapes. One tip: arrive early (before dark) as the estate is sprawling and GPS sends you in a different direction than reception. We were pleasantly surprised that our 2-room suite in the Il Borro village (different than the Villa) was in fact a 2-bedroom house with a complete kitchen, living room, 1.5 baths and a sleeping garret. For two people this was over the top, but enjoyable to explore and take in the views of the valley below. The suite (or house, as it was larger than my 1100 SF city apartment!) was well appointed with linens and toiletries curated by the Ferragamo family - all very thoughtful and comfortable. The village of Il Borro was quaint with small shops to explore and places to sit and take in the scenery. Osteria Del Borro was hit or miss - food night one had some lackluster courses - but overall was good, but not the best Tuscan meal that you might expect. In terms of stay, you are approx. 45 minutes to any other village to eat, so the restaurant and wine bar are the best options to avoid long drives at night. One option to highlight is the Cooking Class with a chef from the Osteria. We enjoyed learning to prepare a 4-course meal, new culinary techniques, and converse with the chef over a glass of Polissena.

Beautiful medieval village as your resort. Wood beamed ceilings, accommodation are cottage style homes with plenty of charm, space and modern comfort!
Service was sublime and all common areas tastefully redone in a restoration hardware look. Valentina our concierge went above and beyond the call of duty to make our stay perfect!
