SALA Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort absolutely deserves five stars. From the moment I arrived, the customer service was exceptional. Every staff member was warm, attentive, and genuinely committed to making the stay unforgettable.

The atmosphere throughout the property is peaceful and relaxing. It feels like a private sanctuary where you can slow down, breathe, and enjoy every moment. The amenities make it even better. The onsite restaurant offers a wide range of dishes with options for every diet, and everything I tried was delicious. The Muay Thai boxing lessons were a fun and energizing surprise. The pool area is stunning, the massages are top tier, and having direct access to the beach is the perfect way to start or end each day.

If you want a resort that blends comfort, luxury, and authentic Thai hospitality, this is the place. I would come back without hesitation.

We booked a SALA Pool Villa for the privacy, and it was great. Requested set times for cleaning and turn-down services every day and they were always finished by the time we returned from breakfast and dinner. Our villa space was always clean. Great breakfast with a la carte options, egg station, juice bar and a wide continental selection; catered well to food allergy issues.

We were blown away by SALA, the property is exceptional and the staff were amazing and very accommodating. The restaurant offering is outstanding in both Thai and Western cuisines and the Spa was also very good. The Mai Khao area is much quieter than other areas on Phuket but has a nice feel to it and suited us (family with a 3 year old) perfectly. Would highly recommend and will definitely return at some stage.

Only downsides to the stay was the beach was closed for swimming due to rough waves and there was quite a lot of rubbish washed in from the surf (both outside the resorts control)

SALA Phuket was an amazing stay. The pool villas are well designed and stylish, as well as very private. Waking up every morning and going out the door to swim in a private pool is the best feeling in the world. Night swimming under a chandelier is something out of this world. The small restaurant was good, and the included breakfast was high quality with many options but not an excess.
The location is quite convenient to the airport and is very quiet. The beach is beautiful though it was sometimes dirty as it is nearly everywhere on Phuket. Depending on the tides and storm activity it can be covered in plastic trash. However the hotel cleans this, restoring (briefly) the conditions. Taxis into the commercial center of Phuket via Grab app cost about 800 THB and take 30-50 minutes depending on traffic. There’s a nearby shopping area with free shuttle for souvenirs and sundries.
All of the staff at SALA were friendly, competent and professional. A super small hotel. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Quite breathtaking when you walk in and you get a sense of how surreal and peaceful the resort is. Feels like an oasis away from home. Despite the resort being fully booked out, we never felt as though it was crowded. Case in point, we took a stroll to JW Marriott (property next door) and although there was admittedly much more activities and restaurants available for choosing, we were very grateful to be back at Sala at the end of the day. Service level was top notch the entire stay, every interaction felt so natural and friendly. In fact - on our first day, we already decided that we are definitely coming back. Thank you for such a fantastic stay, it was a wonderful break away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The property is secluded with a private beach, however, the tides were quite strong during our stay. We stayed in a duplex with a private pool. The concept is pretty neat, but the two stories we found, was too much room for a couple.
The outdoor bathrooms took getting used to, especially with the fluctuation in temperature from the inside bedroom and living room. The size of the private pool was excellent.

Our villa definitely showed its wear and tear. The tile around the pool area was discoloured and chipped in quite a few places. The staff tries their best in keeping the property and villas clean, however, the wear and tear in this villa needs some care or renovation.

We had issued with the front door lock which was replaced during our last night of stay. The upstairs door that opens to the outdoor bathroom, took a lot of force to open. If you are not into climbing two flights of stairs, I would not recommend the duplex.

The breakfast buffet was very limited and mediocre, compared to other resorts we’ve been to in Phuket. The lunch and dinner food was limited and also mediocre. I would recommend eating off the resort.

The spa treatment was really nice and the fitness centre was well kept with nice Life Fitness equipments. Enough to get the job done.

Overall, I would try other resorts with the same price range before coming back anytime soon.

This is hands down the best resort I’ve ever stayed at. Warm, kind consierge, front desk, servers, and guides. Literally everyone we encountered was so helpful and sweet. The pool villa accommodations are luxe and such a unique experience. The breakfast and restaurant food offerings are incredible and affordable. The excursions are affordable also given they are private which means you wont need to deal with the booze cruise crowds. And the Mai Khao beach is clean, beautiful and peaceful. If you dont mind driving to the touristy things in the south of the island, this is a magnificent option for a first time Thailand visitor.

We absolutely loved this resort. Our only regret is not staying longer. We booked this resort through Expedia. We communicated with them before our stay. They helped organize our pickup from the Phuket airport, they helped setup up a romantic dinner on the beach and setup a driver to take us from Phuket to Krabi. I was nervous about depending on them to do all this for me as I worry about everything. They responded to every question in a timely matter and everything they did for us went so smoothly I didn’t have a worry in the world. That’s how a vacation should be. The driver (Kirakorm) recommended a lunch spot on our way to Krabi which was out of this world. We were also greeted we lovely flowers and a bouquet of flowers which happened to be my wedding flower. Our room was the pool villa. OMG!!! It’s a must. I can’t even explain how beautiful this room is. Our own private pool, we loved the outdoor shower and tub. Also, decorations in our room was very romantic. They even gave us a bottle of wine to celebrate our anniversary. The staff was amazing. We loved the breakfast. The food was fresh and looked so pretty. We also indulged in a wrap and massage. Those ladies had me and my husband feeling ten years younger. The resort was clean and the beach area was so nice. Everything at this resort was top notch. I would highly recommend staying here. The only thing is stay longer than us. We will be back and this time for at least a week. Thanks for making our visit so special.

This was a return visit . The setting is great and free water at the pool and restaurant is much appreciated.

Great property and facility and good food. But services at breakfast restaurant is disappointing. Inadequate number of staff to attend guests, food arrived late, drinks even came after food arrived, staff does not pay attention and disregarded our request about drinks. Simply ignore Asians and focus more on foreigners take care white foreigners better than Asian. Just a very disappointing service from a hotel that claims itself to be 5 stars.

Villa has great privacy and the private pool is great. The main issue is that it is designed with “form over function”. Eg room too small because garden too big. Outdoor lavatory not practical. Switches and plug points in inaccessible locations. Rooms get easily hot because roof not well insulated. Overall, not a bad resort and staff try their best to be helpful. But at that price point I have been to much better pool villas in Phuket.

Some of the visitors are muslim. And they would love to enjoy halal served food at your property. For example, morning breakfast was clearly indicate which food are halal and which food are not. Top 5 hotels in all of Phuket. The Anantara, Keemala, Sala, Sri Panwa, Trisara. These are the best of the best. Sala is a beautiful, minimalist villa style boutique resort. It's perfect for couples because you have a completely walled off private villa, pool and outdoor bathroom. It feels magical. We stayed in a 1 bedroom sala pool villa. HIghly recommend on all fronts. Food is fantastic and the property is well manicured. Just keep in mind that Mai Kao beach is not a swimming beach. It's beautiful to look at and walk down the coast, but you do not under any circumstance want to swim in the rough waters. If you want an upscale, relaxing, private experience at a great price, the Sala is for you.

Shame there were so many families with babies/small children staying at the resort as I think this resort is ideally suited more to adults only. As the pool villas are open air living it can be quite noisy if babies are crying in the evening. Other than that loved the place and would certainly visit again .

I've stayed at many resorts on the west coast of Phuket over the years, but not this far north since 2004 (at the Marriott). The location is 'remote' from the rest of life on Phuket with little to do or venture to beyond the four-walls of the resort which is fine provided you want absolute relaxation. The Turtle Village is the nearest tourist trap of restaurants, a '7-11' and a few high-end, deserted shops accessed by a shuttle 'buggy' that seats 8 and runs every 30-minutes until around 9.30pm. I usually like heading to local eateries within walking distance of a resort, but there isn't a lot of choice here so ate couple of times in the resort with the associated costs involved. The Sala Pool Villa booked was a great layout and very private, albeit really showing its age now in a number of areas, but don't let this put you off as it's beautiful at first sight. The Sala Samui where I've stayed previously is a similar age and looked to have a better level of ongoing repair. The staff were absolutely excellent and always had a friendly smile and interaction. Will head further south next time to Surin Beach where there are some great resorts and a little more 'life'.

This hotel put in first line the design part. And all i see is a design place, which is cruelly lacking of finitions. adding a sImming pool to rooms was a great idea. but light usage, and basicness ofnpool plus missing of elementary plug, shower that is minimal, all the finish looks cheap. food was far from memorable. got sick after first curry and keep on not feeling good. Really not a place i want to keep in mind.

We enjoyed our stay but would not return. The property is beautiful, the food is good (though expensive), and the service is excellent. Unfortunately, we did not like the room setup due to the outside bathrooms. We had to slide very large doors to get to the bathroom, and nighttime trips to the restrooms became a nuisance to both the person making the trip and the person who was inevitably awoken by the noise of the sliding doors.

beautiful villa for a romantic getaway

the resort is as beautiful as the pictures show. I would like to add that the food was excellent too. In addition to the buffet spread for the daily breakfast, there are special order items such as crispy waffles made of aged batter, Eggs Shashuka and local thai dishes such as omelette and fried morning glory veg. These special order items are all so good. I miss the breakfast there already.
The only downside is that this resort is far away from Patong (the main tourist, shopping area) and it takes 1 hour to get there. I wish the resort provide complimentary transport service to Patong. Currently, the resort provides transport but at a fee (not cheap).
Oh, I also wish the hotel provide better hair conditioner. :)

Every detail was looked into e.g. choice of pillows, scent of aromatherapy oil and body lotion. Such details give a warm and personal touch to every guest. My husband and I loved everything about this resort. Our room was perfect, the pool.

Perhaps the only complaint we have were the bugs that came into out villa. But then again, that's what we get for staying close to nature.

Services all around are NOT on par with the establishment and price (and I speak relatively as a frequent SE Asia traveler) - this was by far the most disappointing part of the trip, esp given that everything in the hotel (spa, room service, etc) is about 15% too expensive and the location is pretty \"captive\". Given all the high end options around Phuket I wouldn't go back - maybe just to the restaurant!

Great but far & lack authenticity of Thai culture

Fantastic villa which we paid for, however, the prices for activities, spa, restaurant, and gift shop are very much exaggerated for Thailand. The best thing I liked about the hotel, the fact that it is close to the airport. If you are coming to Thailand to just stay at a hotel and relax, this is good, but if you wanted to experience Phuket and authentic Thai food don't stay here, stay in Patong or of you like quieter place than Patong, stay in Kata Beach.

My recommendation stay for most of your visit at Patong or Kata (quieter than Patong), but for the last two nights spend at Sala. Make sure you do all of the activities e.g. Phi phi Island, zip-lining, scuba diving... Etc before you go to Sala as the prices more expensive and traveling by car takes much longer from Sala.

Warm welcome and peaceful stay

It was one of my good experience staying here. Warm welcome, nice, neat, and clean room. Room service is really good in term of responsive and prompt actions taken for all of us. The beach is clean and quiet, this is really a good place where you can absolutely sneak out and forget everything.... we really had a good time and will find time to go back.

A quieter part of Mai Khao

The resort is quiet and exclusive. The deluxe room is different with an outdoor bathroom and a tab on the balcony, merely covered by huge curtains.
On the downside, the gym is small, sauna room has a musky smell and despite it being a rainy season hence low occupancy, they refused any late check out even for an hour. A letter was also left in our room informing us a bell assistant will be at our doorstep at 11:45am to assist with our luggage. Seem like they didn't want to chance any delay in us checking out. They also wanted to charge extra for my 13th old daughter 2900baht per night. Told them the website where I booked didn't state any charges for an extra child. Overall not that friendly or accommodating

very nice but needs improvement

loved the room, resort and people .
lovely villa comfortable, nice design, has the wow factor...shame toilet was not private for me and my partner...needs to be, major oversight on having an outside toilet. Mosquitos watching you as you try to relax on the loo...unsettling. Like pool to be clear of debris on a daily basis, otherwise nice spot but no real sun on our villa...has two large trees blocking what little was there.
great size bed...can lose yourself there and not venture out.
Liked the people tremendously, so sweet and considerate....
the grounds looked like they needed in my view improving....grass coming through block paving on paths...unless that's the design??....but real issue was our villa was located right next to I believe the bins or else?? otherside of swimming pool wall....constant wafting or bad smells....no one addressed this issue.
as it is far from airport for a luxury hotel, they didn't provide courtesy shuttle to and from airport or elsewhere apart from local purpose built village 5 mins away.
Room service got my meal wrong twice despite clear instructions and acknowledged ok...lost appetite ...this not addressed or apology given...small and petty to some but it all matters...
overall ok but sadly would liked to have more attention to

My Go-to in Phuket!

This was my third stay at the Sala. Its such a peaceful stay which is super comfortable. The restaurant serves Thai cuisine which is amazing. The pool suites are the best!

I have done 3 day of massage with SALA and I must say their SALA experience is very enjoyable.

Dining experience
the dining option requires further improvement and variety if possible, especially Thai selection at night was a little too much on the heavy side and the coconut soup does cause upsetting stomach and slight food poisoning. (my friend and I had was clinically diagnosed with food poisoning even though we ate from the hotel only)

Receptionist
The receptionists at the front are very helpful and goes an extra mile to ensure the guest's stay are comfortable and needs are met. Same can be say about the Spa.

Summary
It is a pity about the food, perhaps the quality of the coconut soup should be checked again in the evening. They are definitely on the higher price range for their dinner selection although there isn't much impression aside from the coconut soup.

Isolated, small... But nice for short stay

We stayed in a pool villa. Didn't realise everything was outside.. Bathroom, shower, tub, sink, toilet. With a baby and mosquitoes and rain, it was not ideal. The pool villa was nice but very uncomfortable bed, I got back pain and terrible pillows. The room itself is quite small, pool is great but. Water in shower was awful, took ten minutes to get flowing and warm, and pressure was not good. There was often the smell of sewerage in the air and hotel restaurant was only one option and really not very good.. We would just leave for other hotels to dine at but the hotel is also very isolated in the fishing village. I wouldn't stay here again or recommends to families. The breakfast spread was limited but the ladies who work there are very nice and friendly. Good internet everywhere. We stayed for one week, too long. Couple days is ok.

Calmness and serenity

When you feel the need to disconnect from the busy and fast paced life, here is the place to help you satisfy that need. My wife and I spent here five nights enjoying a complete detachment from the daily hassle of work and kids. Every thing here was set to help us unwind and relax. To enjoy that special feature of quietness you need to overcome a few things one out of which is the lack of wide variety of food and the insects especially mosquitoes.

Private relaxing stay

We had a Garden Pool Villa and is was exactly as per the photo's. The room was spacious and had a very comfortable bed. You can easily spend your days not leaving your room with your own private outdoor area and pool. The outside bathroom is quirky and at first seems a little unusual, but due to the clever designs and locations of the rooms, any concerns around privacy soon fade away.The food at the restaurant was excellent. We only ate outside Sala on one occasion during our 4 night stay due to the quality and choice of food. The breakfasts in particular were a call out as there is not only an extensive buffet but you also order from a menu, all included in the price. The staff were all very friendly and keen to help.

A couple

Comfortable and relax stay

We had a nice stay at Sala. We wanted to be totally relaxed and just hang in, which we achieved both by the pool and especially in our private pool villa. The staff are friendly and helpful. We would like to mention K.Deun at the breakfast, she's very attentive that she could anticipate what was missing at our breakfast without us even calling her, then solved the problem immediately.
