Beautiful area, amazing food, the hot springs out in nature are great. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the whole experience is amazing. Worth it even if it's just one night.

Gave attention to all the small details

The level of attention of their customer service by the staff to me and my girlfriend was amazing and in a way, heart warming. For example, they knew we liked to face the garden while eating so they setup the table that way. Another example is, they knew I loved boiled eggs so instead of asking every morning they prepared it for me. These little small attention to details and the kindness of the staff, the wonderful food, the beautiful scenery and amazing onsen made my trip unforgettable.

Very attending and courteous staff. The facility is ok but does its job of providing good lodging for guests. The place is good for English speakers as the staff are able to get their point across in English but it would be courteous to meet them in the middle and learn some useful Japanese phrases as well. Dinner and breakfast services were superb. The free shuttle service to and from the bus station was much appreciated.

Good ryokan experience but not excellent

Ryokan had all basic amenities like AC, TV. Customer service was pretty good as the front desk guy made many efforts to answer our questions from time to time. We also got breakfast and dinner which was organized in a traditional fashion. Breakfast had a nice selection and we liked it, but the shabu shabu dinner wasn’t great with chicken being the only meat. As for the room itself it was traditional but we thought there would be something akin to tea ceremony.

The onsen itself was comfortable with both indoor and outdoor and being able to experience both as they flipped men and women one in morning. It was convenient to have the hotel arrange a shuttle to the bus stop. The bus 17 from Kyoto station to Ohara is pretty convenient and runs frequently. The town of ohara nearby gives a taste of rural Japan and is a nice experience to walk through.

Overall it’s a good experience but next time for onsen I’d prefer being in outdoors in Nikko than repeat stay here. The entrance with pond full of koi, tannuki was very sweet me a nice site we could see from our window.

This is where you relax. Lovely nature, food and onsen. Rooms are clean and brand new, staff speaks English and is very helpful. Remember to call for a pickup at the bus station- there is a payphone. The best lunch/cakes can be found at the small and very cool french/japanese bistro near the bus station on the small walkway in the rice fields.

Perfect place If you like doing housework.

You need to prepare your own bed at night.
Before you can spread out the tatami. You need to rearrange the room by moving the table to the side.
No one will help you with the bedding or making your bed.

A bit of walk from the bus station but great country road and beautiful scenery. Have free bikes so very handy. Good service. Lovely garden. Clean room and public shower and bath. Great meals. We enjoyed everything!

A+ Onsen getaway tucked into the hills of Kyoto

Getting to the Onsen is a bit of a hike but was pretty easy to navigate. It's settled back into the hills/mountains about 30 minutes north of Kyoto station. We arrived on a rainy day and it was absolutely magical. The hills had mist rolling over them and it felt like we were walking through a Miyazaki film. The staff was attentive and spoke excellent English. The room was clean and had its own bathroom (no shower). We were in a tatami mat room and it was perfect for two people. The window opened up and overlooked their koi pond and had a good view of the hills (ask for room 211!). At dinner and breakfast the staff was, again, attentive and helpful. The meals were served in a traditional style (think Ryokan) and were quite tasty, though be prepared for an odd fish side dish or two.

The baths themselves were also very nice. Men and women were separate and each bath had a traditional washing area where you clean up before getting into the bath. Each side had an indoor and outdoor bath as well. The only downside is the baths were pretty small and had a man-made feel versus some of the larger natural spring looking ones. This said, the water felt great on the skin and when we were there (a Monday) it wasn't too busy. I had the outdoor bath to myself for most of the time. Would definitely recommend this place for any budget (or even non budget) adventurers looking to experience an Onsen.

Authentic Japanese raykan with nice hot spring

The inn is up at the mountain in the midst of beautiful scenery, and at the source of Hot Springs. The two meals provided are plentiful and tasty. The dinner is a hot pot, while the breakfast is a traditional Japanese breakfast. It has both indoor and outdoor Hot Springs.

A great Ryokan experience away from the city

A great Ryokan experience away from the city. The staff were friendly and helpful. Appreciated that we were provided with different set meals during our 3 day stay. Shuttle service was provided to and fro between the Ryokan and Ohara bus station at a moment's notice.

Ohara is located 1 hour away from Kyoto station. Thus, travelling takes up a lot of our time and we have to leave for Ohara by 5.30 pm to make it back for Dinner. Thus, the Ryokan is good for those who don't mind the additional travel time and transport cost.

Don't expect snow and plan you bathing.

If you think that you want to spend winter there to enjoy snow, think again! the pictures are very deceiving, no snow on 2016 at all. You can enjoy the Japanese culture while staying there, but having 2 small kids surely not suitable for this kind of stay. There is no bathing area except for the oshien, so you need to comply with the timing set by the management. Also you need to be purely naked to bath in the oshien with others. Better start going to the gym! Also the walking distance from the Bus stop (No. 17 from Kyoto station) is very far, especially with big luggage bags. Take a cab from the bus stop which will cost you around 1000 yen. Apart from that, the staffs are superbly friendly and very accommodative.

American couple in Japan

If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience with good food and gracious hosts, look no further. The Ryokan was tucked away in the mountains of Ohara and miles from the bright lights of Kyoto. We were the only Americans present during our stay and made it a point of emphasis to respect the locals and hosts alike. Our quest for solitude after the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and Osaka was fulfilled upon reaching Yumoto Onsen.

A reasonably price ryokan in the countryside.

Good experience for a stay in an Onsen with outdoor and indoor hot spring tubs. It can be reached by taxi from Kyoto for about 50,000 Yen, or much cheaper by bus. The drive is scenic and provides a nice view of the country side. The walk from the Onsen to the Sanzen Temple is very pleasant and scenic, and you are not surrounded by the usual crowds found in Kyoto. The Ohara Riverside Cafe near the hotel is a very nice place to have a good latte and snack.
We've paid a lot more for a higher end Ryokan hotel in Gion where the food is much elaborate and service is much better. But this one offers a good experience for a much more reasonable price.

Lovely stay at a beautiful minshuku in Ohara

The staff were very friendly and kind. The accommodations were very comfortable, the onsen was absolutely wonderful, the water felt very silky and smooth with minerals. Ohara is absolutely beautiful, even though it rained one of the days we were there (ew) the scenery was still breathtaking. My mom enjoyed it so much she started looking into buying a house in the area.

The only (very minor) complaint was that the dinner felt somewhat simple for the cost, however, it makes sense since it's in a more remote area where supplies are more difficult to acquire.

The foot bath near the inn was absolutely adorable and incredibly relaxing.

Very gobreakfast and dinnernese style hotel. Staff spoke English well and helped whenever they could. Hot spring bath was 35 steps up the back of the hotel. Room 210 overlooked the koi pond and down the mountainside. Shuttle bus from bus station in town otherwise a15 minute walk to hotel. Very charming area. Jakko in temple garden is awesome.breakfast and dinners are fantastic.

Nice Onsen resort not far from Kyoto but...

The location is about 12 min. taxi ride from the closest train station on the north side in the beautiful Kyoto suburb. Everything was good as expected except:
1) The staff told us that the onsen would be open from 8:00 till 10:00AM the next morning (His English was actually quite good). In fact, it was only opened from 6:00AM to 8:00AM. There was actually a bulletin board on the front desk telling the patrons about the opening hours. However, the bulletin was only in Japanese. So we really missed the chance of having another dip before we left.
2) The dinner (included) was delicious but I felt there was not enough meat for the 4 of us.
3) There was no private bathroom in our room. This was a surprise (and inconvenience) to us.

BTW, there was a neighborhood cafe which offers foot bath while drinking coffee at the table. Very nice but not cheap.

Very pleasant stay!

We stayed there for 3 nights, breakfast & dinner are included, the food are from local farm, very fresh and tasty! They arrange different type of food for us everyday, very considered. Staff are nice, some of them can speak a little bit of English, which is good enough in communication. The room and onsens are nice and very clean. The only issue is the sign to Yumoto Onsen is not so clear, even we have a GPS, still took us some times to find it.

Ryokan in rurul area near Kyoto

It takes about an hour to reach Ohara by no.17 bus from Kyoto Station, then 20 minute walk from the Ohara bus stop to the ryokan, it would be a pleasure walk if you don't bring large luggages. The ryokan is in a village, small but clean. Guests need to share bathroom, and even toilets. There is only one toilet for men, and one for women each floor and guests have to walk along staircases outdoor to access to annex building where bathroom and hot spring are.
If you don't mind the above, it is relaxing to stay there one day or two to enjoy hot spring, countryside scenery, flowers, valleys, farmers working on theirs farms, especially the colourful autumn leaves in Jakko-in Temple and Sanzenin Temple. A cup of coffee and a French toast will be the highlight of the day in a nearby coffee shop called \"Kirin\" where decorated with lots of giraffe stuffs, their food are more than I expect.

Ryokan near Kyoto

The staff and location are wonderful. The prices are reasonable. It was a great experience for foreigners like ourselves to stay at a ryokan. We probably won't do it again however. Maybe it's approaching senior years. It's not so easy post 60 to sit for meals on the floor, sleep on the floor, try to work on a laptop without a desk. The room is intentionally somewhat primitive. It's part of the authenticity of the ryokan. It wasn't comfortable.

The hot springs/onsen experience is also quite different than what we've experienced in the US. Bathing in Japan is more of a ritual. The water by comparison to US springs is odorless (no sulfur smell) and seems closer to tap water that's been heated to a consistent temperature. That seems particularly true when you hear the hot water heater kick in.

There are some very nice walks in the area. It's worth a day or two visit. To reiterate, the staff were very friendly and helpful, perhaps the best part of the stay.

Great traditional ryokan (inn with public baths). The place is located about 1km walk from the Ohara bus terminal (the line 17 goes to and from Kyoto). Comes with everything you would expect: futons beds on the floor, steamboat dinner and hot baths.

교토역에서 버스로 45개역을 거친 후 버스 종착역(ohara bus station)에 있음. 버스로 한 시간 이상 갔음. 버스종착지에서 걸어서 16분이라고 하나, 언덕에 있고 하여 걸어가기는 부담스러웠음. 픽업신청이 요구됨. 남성직원들로 구성되어 있었으며, 직원들은 친절함. 버스에서 교토1일 승차권이 있는 경우 추가로 320엔을 내야함. 음식은 좋았음. 복도 끝에 있는 공용화장실 사용. 샤워는 야외에 있는 공용목욕탕을 사용해야 함. 체험 숙박시설 이였음.

環境寧靜優美，民宿員工英文很好，食物不要要求有懷石料理，但傳統日式早晚餐也好美味! 有陶瓷繪畫，買隻陶瓷杯自己畫，會幫你燒好! 希望有機會再去這裡旅行，會再入住。。。個人建議唔想和別人共同廁所的人可以貴少少book帶洗手間的房間，但浴室還是要去温泉才有!

오하라산소우의 직원들 모두 정말 친절했고, 영어로 소통하는데 문제가 없었습니다. 송영서비스도 맞춰 나와주셔서 감사했고, 아름다운 정원을 통유리로 바라보며 먹었던 저녁과 조식이 정말 맛있었습니다. 특히 석식으로 나왔던 미소나베요리와, 조식으로 나왔던 수제두부는 일본에서 먹었던 것 중에 최고였습니다. 위생에 민감한 편인데 목욕탕과 다다미방 모두 청결하게 관리되어 좋았습니다. 노천탕에 누워 나무들을 바라보며 조용하게 흐르는 물소리를 들었던 기억이 참 인상깊었습니다. 다다미방에서도 불을 끄고 가만히 누워 바깥에서 들리는 물흐르는 소리를 한참이고 들었습니다. 체크아웃 후에는 자전거도 빌려주셔서 동네 한바퀴를 돌아볼 수 있었습니다. 오하라산소우 덕분에 일본 여행에서 최고의 경험을 했고, 꼭 다시 올 생각입니다.

개별화장실이 없는 것은 이해하겠는데 복도로 신발을 꺼내놓을 정도로 방과 복도가 가벼운 문하나로 연결됩니다. 마치 2층의 공간에서 방을 나눠쓰는 흡사 수학여행 학생끼리 방을 나눠쓰는 기분이었습니다. 식사는 일본 자국손님에 비해 외국인손님에 대한 소홀함이 느껴집니다.

Superbe ryokan pour découvrir le style traditionel

Véritable ryokan de charme placé dans une petite ville dans des montagnes au nord de la ville de Kyoto.
Accessible facilement avec un bus de Kyoto, puis 10mn à pieds. Au départ, on vous propose une navette gratuite jusqu'à l'arrêt de bus.
Chambre correspondant à ce qu'on attends d'un ryokan traditionnel avec tatamis et futons, et l'on se balade au sein du ryokan avec un beau yukata.
Les bains chaud sont à la fois en intérieur et extérieur, une expérience inédite au coeur de la nature et encore plus impressionnant lorsque la nuit est tombée.

没有民宿氛围，强制消费

大原的话，去年住的是隔壁的大原之里，这次选择了大原山庄。总体上是比较失望的。其实就是一家酒店式民宿，员工一切都是例行公事，甚至服务是比较差的，完全不热情。另外，洗澡居然还收钱，退房才收的，当时真是一脸懵逼，完全没听说呀！洗衣服也是收钱，这相比其他民宿真的是不敢恭维的，本来到老远订的民宿，结果完全感受不到一点民宿氛围，表示还不如住闹市区的酒店，至少比较方便。

깔끔하고 조용하고 욕탕도 많이 번잡지 않아 넘 좋았어요. 석식메뉴는 그닥 썩~ 조식은 가볍게 먹기좋은 정도.. 가성비 대비 깔끔 주변 조용 추천할만 해요~

여행의 노곤함을 풀어줄 온천과 맛있는 저녁 그리고 아침식사.

가격대비 정말 마음에 드는 숙소였습니다.
한국인 스태프분이 계셔서 의사소통에도 문제가 없었고 안계실땐 영어로도 대화가 가능했습니다.
저녁,아침식사도 좋았으나,, 옆 방의 중국인 분들이 새벽까지 수다떠는 소리에 잠을 못잤습니다ㅠㅜ
방음이 잘 안되던 것이 아쉬웠어요.

그럭저럭 나쁘지 않은 저렴이 료칸

돈 더주고 오하라노사토 가려고 했는데 당시 올라온 가격 차가 둘이 꽤나서 걍 오하라 산소로 갔어요. 음.. 사진 보고 생각한 그대로였어요. 객실 깨끗하고 목욕탕 시설도 잘 돼 있고 직원들도 영어 잘해요 친절한 편이구요 우리한테 한국말로 감사합니다라고 해줬어요. 하지만 담번엔 노사토 가야겠다 생각한건 일단 음식이.. 별루 맛 없었어요 ㅋㅋ 노사토는 음식으로 유명하다해서 더 나은가 궁금해졌고 또 료칸이 자연속에 있긴 한데 음... 내가 생각했던 그런 운치는 아니었어요 ㅋ 노사토라고 뭐 다를진 모르겠지만 그래도 더 비싼데는 다르지 않나 해서 담번에 가보려구요 ㅋ
