The Inn is an old post and beam; beautiful old house. The room was not your typical hotel room; it was an Inn room - much more character & charm.
Only negative was my creamer for my needed morning coffee had gone bad :(

The property looks fine online paid $350 For one night plus taxes for The Brimfield antique show. however the place is old and unkept. The reception area is dingy, messy chairs piled around Like a storage unit. I thought they had just purchased the property he said they owned it for like 30 years. The room is small poor lighting. The bed linens and curtains Look like they were a cheap bed in a bag purchase just for that weekend. The bathroom had a old broken wooden toilet seat a rug around the toilet. The mirrors look like they were cleaned with toilet paper because there was fuzz and streaks over them. A huge Whirlpool tub w/shower no handle to get out of the tub/shower. Just a bad experience But everything else was sold out we had no choice but to stay. We will make sure we book Wayne advance next time so we don’t get stuck in places like this at the cost of a much better hotel.

Room door lock was not secure. Room was not up to fire code (missing detector) broken cabinet doors, day bed falling apart, mattress in Master Bedroom is 18 years old, fire escape not shoveled/salted/sanded. Front security door doesnt shut or lock. Room had an awful smell. Only good thing was the Jacuzzi tub, that i was told i could only use once during my 1 night stay.

It looks abandoned driving up to the property. The front of the Inn has chunks of paint flaking off the entire facade. Shrubs are overgrown. The light poles have broken fixtures that appear hanging. There's a gazebo that looks ready to fall over, seriously it should be taken down. Then you drive onto the property and it doesn't get better. Trash is everywhere. The whole property is overgrown. You enter the office \"lobby\" and the smell of musty, moldy, air hits you. It is dimly lit, probably to hide the dirt. Kevin, behind the counter looks like an old hippy with straggly gray hair. He's nice enough and accommodating. He brought us to our room and told us about the key code to get in(big help, the upstairs entrance is always unlocked). The room was likely last updated in the 80' with the bathroom fixtures outfitted in tarnished gold with worn wood. The hot tub was quite disgusting and open to the room. The bed was comfy and sheets were clean. The fireplace worked nicely. The furniture looks like it was leftovers nobody wanted from all the local antique shops. Is it worth it? Nope. Would we stay there again? No way! IF you saw Hot Tub Time machine, this is comparable to that rundown hotel room.

This property should be condemned! Its moldy, dusty, the shower door fell off and wouldve smashed if we didnt catch it, there were brown stains on the sheets, the toilet seat didnt even fit the toilet, there were water stains in the room, the ceiling was cracked, the jacuzzi tub was moldy (so disgusting you wouldnt want to go in), no one was there literally until 3pm check in and we were the only guests there. It was like walking into a horror movie set.

This hotel needs to be closed. The management is terrible, it was rundown both inside and out. Other than the bed, which was comfortable - although the bedding was stained, it looked like the room was furnished with yard sale furniture. The bedside tables had no finish and were marked, lampshades that were ripped and stained, the wallpaper was ripped and there was a shappy slipcover and old, worn out \"decorative\" pillow on the only chair in the room. The building itself was dirty and in desperate need for much repair both inside and out. Frankly, I didn't feel safe in there, especially if there was a fire. The bathroom has been recently updated with a big whirlpool tub, but there was no grab bar to help getting in and out safely and no slip guards on the bottom of the tub surface. No wonder they wanted the entire amount of the room fee up front and non-refundable!

Not vintage just old.

The room need major renovations and cleaning. It was extremely dusty and moldy. Because I have allergies I had to sleep with a face mask.
The decor was more old then vintage. Using the shower/bath was very dangerous, there was no easy way to step in and out . It's really sad, the location is so convenient, if the owners will invest on the property it could turn around into a little jewel.

Room was clean. Jennifer, desk clerk, very friendly & location good. Double rm was small and poorly furnished with several mis-matched dressers, night tables, etc. Oddly, there was a single bed, made up and seemingly permanently in place whether there was to be a third person or not, positioned at an angle, in front of an unusable elec fireplace. Bathroom in need of update as no one would use that \"jetted\" tub and only amenity was one sm bottle of shampoo. 1 front window was cracked and a/c an afterthought in 2nd window w curtains bunched around it. Inn offers no breakfast and no coffee/tea set-up in room or lobby. Ice machine not working. Best to choose another hotel now and hope this one makes necessary updates to stay in business. We left after 1 night.

We booked this hotel because it had a pool in the pictures so we assumed it had a pool. We got there and found they no longer use the pool. Also the staff was only there in the afternoon. No one is there in the morning or after 7pm. Some sites say there is breakfast, there is not. Pictures are outdated and the exterior and rooms are older and worn down. Pricey for what you get. On a positive note the cleaner/clerk was very nice and was able to tell us about the area.

Not a B & B--really not much of anything

This property was listed as a Bed & Breakfast. There was no breakfast--in fact the lobby area was not even open in the morning hours so we could get a bottle of water. There was a knob missing on the AC/furnace and it was nearly impossible to properly control the temperature. The bathroom had a badly mildewed shower curtain and stained ceiling tiles; obviously, the tub in the room above had leaked. The bathroom exhaust fan sounded like a shrieking cat, so we couldn't use it. The bed had an old box springs and was hard as a rock. I will commend the young lady who looks after the rooms in the afternoon; she cleaned the shower curtain and tried to help with AC knob, but this appears to be absentee ownership that doesn't care much for guest comfort. there is no way I would recommend it in the current condition.

Someone..most likely related to the owners..has been writing trumped up reviews that bear no relation to reality.. with just a drive-by you can get an idea of how tired this property is just by looking at it's sad condition..the inside mirrors the exterior.. what a miserable tired old dump..on an extremely busy and LOUD! Route 20. I got burnt once by falling for these fake reviews..but never again!!.. needs lots of work to inside and outside..tired worn flooring.. dreary walls.. thrift shop heavily worn furniture..no amenities whatsoever and a loud highway 20 feet from the front door is a recipe for one miserable stay

We love this area and this country inn! It may not be the Marriot but that’s not what we are looking for! Each room has a whirlpool tub and fireplace! Each room has its own look! Decorated with some older furniture and decor! We have been coming hear for few years now! And will continue to do so!
The owner is a super nice guy! Very down to earth!

Very Disappointed

The hotel is very run-down in need of repairs and paint on the exterior. Our fridge in our room did not work, there was missing trim moldings and it looked like the outside of the windows have never been cleaned. I've slept in foxholes which were more comfortable then the rock hard bed. We had to ask for coffee and cups ( which were dirty) for our room. After 8pm there was no employees onsite, and when we left @ 9am there still wasn't anyone there.

Was offered another room it was late for us we had just finished working ar a local craft fair we did end up staying in another room just ok would not recommend.
I believe in today's social media these are areas to really pay attention to especially cleanliness.

One of the most miserable experiences ever!

There was nobody there for our midnight check in. In fine print, it did say check in to 11pm but it also said in an email that late check in were not a problem. Given code for door to building after making 2 calls and our room was left open for anyone to enter. They left a key in the room which anyone could have taken as well.
There were no towels, a light was out and the handle for faucet came off in the bathroom. We called both office and Expedia about situation but nothing was done that evening. We were finally given towels the next morning after I had gone out and bought some.
The sheets were worn and stained. The bed was uncomfortable to say the least. If it had not been near 1 am and having just flown across country, we would have left.
This isn't even all, but should be more than enough to say don't stay!

DON'T STAY HERE! COMPLETELY RUN DOWN!

Do not go by the website. It does not look like that anymore which is a shame since it was a pretty B&B at one time. It is now a DUMP! The guy checked us in 3pm, gave us the code number for the back door. We got to the room, I went to ask him a question and he was gone with a note on the door - We Are Closed! He never said that my husband and I were the only ones there. It is dirty, musty, the carpets are old, torn, stains are on the walls (paint - don't think they know what it is). Shades were down, did not want to try opening them up. The carpet was old and ripped. The whole placed needed to be cleaned. Don't want to know what the top 2 floors looked liked except they smelled musty. The room faced the pool which looked as if it was never uncovered. Part of the fence was not there, plants were dead, gazebo was about to fall over. The whole exterior has been neglected. There are no amenities. Library, Ice, Breakfast and STAFF - no where to be found. The only look on the door was a metal bar that you flipped over when you close the door - nothing else. We put a chair and luggage up against it. Don't understand how or why they can take people's money and think that there no problem in doing so. It is Disgusting! They also should not listed on any sites especially bedandbreakfast.com, someone should go there and check this place out and see the false advertising and what this place looks like. It once was a very beautiful B&B that a lot of people stayed at. Also, we only stayed the one night but when we checked in, he told us he had already charged our CC for the full visit which was not mentioned when reservations were made. IT SHOULD CLOSED COMPLETELY!

The rooms are dirty. Their is no service since there is no staff. Don't know when it was cleaned the last time. It is Musty smelling, carpets are old and ripped. Security is a joke. You get a code to use for the door at night that probably never gets changed. There is no staff. They have no idea what paint is. Carpets are old ripped and place is totally Run Down. There is a piece of metal that you flip when you close the door as your lock. Bed and Breakfast WITHOUT Breakfast. And no Amenities. And you get checked it and that is it. Sign on door states Closed and make sure you have a cell phone since there are no phones there and you end up by yourself.

A REAL DUMPING AREA

I checked in but didn't stay as the place was so dirty and smelly. If there were a local government in this town this place should be shut down immediately. The service is horrible, the parking lot look like a war zone, the house itself never gets power wash or clean somehow. It is a shame to offer such place to people as accommodation. I was stoned and flabbergasted to endure such humiliation. When you call for service nobody knows anything. The windows let bugs in easily and they are not even energy saver. Quiet frankly this place should be closed as it represents a very high risk for people's health and safety. Not everything who is shining is gold. Don't waste your time and money there.

Pictures online are deceiving!!!

This place could be very nice! It's in a nice location near Sturbridge Village and a lot of stores. BUT the pictures online are very deceiving and must be old! This is not a Bed & Breakfast, the do NOT serve breakfast. It is very run down outside and needs some serious updates. The rooms aren't bad, but have a very mildew smell, like old rotten wood. Most of the time you can not find anyone on the premises to help you.

Stayed here years ago and it was a great value, clean rooms, nice staff. It seems to be falling in some disrepair, the building needs paint, wall paper ripped, there were a pile of cigarette butts on the ground by the door, we had no towels and raided them from an adjoining room.. Mind you it's pretty cheap for a Inn with a large functioning Jacuzzi and a gas fireplace that worked well, but it's just getting pretty shabby and run down. We won't be coming back.

We have just enjoyed 3 weeks touring New England staying at 9 different Inns and hotels. The Sturbridge Country Inn was the worst we stayed in, so bad in fact, that we checked out after one night and got a refund for the second. When I asked for a refund the receptionist didn't seem in the least bit surprised! No wonder there were no other guests.

We were with my sister-in-law and both rooms were dowdy and dusty. Paper was peeling off the walls and dark lines, where pictures had once hung, marked the walls. The towels were thin and the beds uncomfortable. At night the reception area was locked up- reopening at 10am. The Inn does not provide breakfast and the emergency numbers failed to connect. The receptionist did not reappear until 2.30pm, our rooms had not been made up.

When we spoke to locals about the Inn, they said it has a dreadful reputation and that there are rarely cars in the car park.

Once, it must have been lovely, but not for a very long time. Give it a big miss.

Things that the Sturbridge Country Inn did not have:

-wifi

-breakfast (one of the several days they had pre-packaged muffins)

-enough hot water

-no ice in ice machine

-no fridge

-no microwave

-working fireplace

Things they did have:

-19 inch tv

-electrical outlets

-in room drip coffee machine

The place was slightly run down with peeling paint and somewhat dusty in the rooms. The ceiling above our tub had clear indicators that there was leaking water that may or may not have been resolved. When we checked in there were no towels in the room and they had to be brought in.

This was a nice place to stay ~6 years ago but this isn't the case anymore. I wish we had stayed at the La Quinta

Inn keeper was hard to get s hold of initially and then absent the entire time I was there. To make matters worse he charged my CC after paying Expedia for the room. This was after he assured me it was for funds verification. Currently in a dispute involving CC company. It's to bad, could be quaint weekend getaway .

Uncle Lew's 95th Birthday Party Trip

This place does NOT meet my definition of a Bed-&-Breakfast facility since the only thing they offered on Satutday morning was coffee and store-bought, packaged pastries. Had to go to Churchill's down the road for a REAL breakfast.

The exterior of this place looks unkempt as you enter the parking lot. Needs a lot of work. The interior is a bit better but there is NO access to the common area after 7:00 pm and it doesn't reopen until 9:00 am.

The pictures online show a charming old inn, however, the reality is different. The building is in need of repair and the paint is peeling off. The building is obviously quite old and with some tlc would probably be exceptional. Despite the main building having wide plank wood floors they opted to cover them in the hall and our bedroom with carpeting. I had difficulty falling asleep for the mildew odor being masked by carpet freshener. The wallpaper was peeling, there was a missing painting with an obvious dingy wall surrounding where it once hung. I could have written my name on the top of the bureau it was so dusty. On the plus side, the A/C worked and the sheets were fresh. Also it was quiet. No breakfast is available. Rather a dismal experience.

Good location, cheap, was and could be very nice.

This property was a very comfortable, charming, New England Hotel. Unfortunately it has lost its charm. The pool is closed (mid July) unflushed toilet with cigarette butt etc on arrival. General condition of the exterior was poor due to lack of simple maintenance, basic landscaping, some paint, and move the rusty old plow truck away from the office door. I hope management wakes up and realizes that customers notice. This could be a great place to stay once again.

Brimfield antique fair

While the place was convenient to Brimfield, we rented the loft and it was roomy with 2 air conditioners.Things like dingy towels (some with tears),and dirty carpet was pretty unappealing. The place could use some updating inside and out. We stayed for 1 night as planned and we woke up refreshed which is what I had in mind. I would probably rent the loft again.

Booked for our honeymoon. The room was filthy. The jacuzzi was barely luke warm. We made it an hour and a half. Unable to check out as the lobby was locked for the night. Drove all the way back home. We have yet to be refunded for the room after calling their phone service 4 times. Gave up ... They got our $139.00 and ruined our honeymoon. Don't fall for the quaint photos on their website.

Relaxing stopover

This property was en route to our destination and a convenient place to stop. I think maybe only one other room was occupied (on a Monday night) so it was very quiet. We arrived around 7:30PM so a call was made to the host, who provided check-in instructions. After a brief walk around the pleasant neighborhood, we needed to use the car to drive to find a place to eat as the places nearby weren't open on Monday. We returned to use the spa tub and get a good night rest - comfy bed, clean room, just as described. We didn't try to use Wi-Fi (if there was any?) or TV; the A/C unit just worked OK so it was a bit warm. We would stay again.

By Far, the WORST Place to Stay

We drove up and it looked abandoned - excuse me - it was abandoned. No one there - rather scary as I reserved the place with my credit card. Called the number posted on the door and was promised a return call within 10 minutes. No call, but someone did show up about 20 minutes later. Got a free upgrade - possible because there was no one else there! The towels were clean, but rather gray (did anyone ever hear of bleach?) The ceramic tiles around the whirlpool were broken and with sharp edges. The towel bar fell off the wall. There was a daybed in the other room but I don't see how anyone could sleep on it as the mattress was hard and lumpy - it was actually the first time I had ever seen a lumpy mattress. No vouchers for breakfast as stated in their website. The fliers for area attractions were so outdated that the coupons had expired by 2 years. I could go on and on, but it would become boring to the reader of this review. Except the noise from the street was unbearable and there were no shades for the window. Find another place to stay.

No staff at hotel when I arrived (8pm) Had to call a service that called the staff who then called me back to give me the code to get into the hotel. Poor security. I spend 50-100 days a year in a hotels on business so I know what good is and this stay was real bad. I always use bedandbreakfast.com ratings in selecting B&Bs my wife and I stay at on our vacations. This is the first time the site let me down. First the Sturbridge Country Inn was a bed without breakfast. The home was in complete disrepair inside and outside. The room was awful and stinky (used a full can of Lysol). The fireplace did not work the heater was nasty and loud, tv was small and probably made in 1998, there was no water pressure to take a reasonable shower, and the Internet did not work until 3AM. Unfortunately my wife and I made plans to visit the village during flea market week so there were not alternate places. This place probably has not been 4.5 stars since 2005. Don't make the same mistake and waste $175 and ruin a vacation day! Thankfully the other 7 properties we stayed at this trip were outstanding.

Disgrace!

That was the worst bed and breakfast ever . There was no heat , the blankets had stuff all over them . The curtains were filled with holes . The room was a disgrace! I do not know how you continue to stay open!! I should have demanded a refund !!!

Retreat

My husband and I love going to the old country inn and try to get there every year. The place is so quaint a little old and rustic but we love that. the owner is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about things in the area to do and places to go. Can't wait to go back again next year.

Don't stay at this Inn

This is inn needs much repair is very dirty, cold,mattresses were awful, barely any hot water. This is not a place I would feel comfortable recommending to anyone. Old does not mean dirty and not maintained!

Safe quaint comfortable stay

Our stay was at The Sturbridge Coutry Inn was relaxing and restful. We were comfortable. Fireplace was the best. We didn't take advantage of the spa in our bathroom. Mattress and comfortable bed linens made for a good nights sleep. May I suggest you add a power strip for plugging in coffee maker.

We liked the whirlpool tub!

We enjoyed the whirlpool tub, but wish the hotel itself had more to offer. Found out when we got there that they no longer do complimentary breakfast. Their website is no longer accurate. Over all it was a nice stay & enjoyed being right close by Sturbridge Village Museum & resteraunts/shopping.

Not as advertised

We selected our room at the B&B website and was told when we asked what time was breakfast that they did not do that, but there was coffee in the main area in the morning. I thought that was the second B in B&B. I was presented with a bill and I informed him that I had paid in advance over the web site. He said the reservation would have had a receipt on it had I prepaid. Well I did had the confirmation on the phone with the prepaid confirmation and he then went to look it up and found that we indeed had prepaid. We were shown to our room and it was not the room we had selected and prepaid for on line. It was quite spartan in the decorative sense, but were told it was all they had available despite the vacancy sign out front. But he would return our money and we could go to another place, As it was getting dark and I was not familiar with the are area declined. Shortly we were shown another room with twin beds but this was unacceptable. Again a little later we were shown a third room but this one was not made up... still not the room we had selected but much more what we were looking for. We took it. Asking the manager fir restaurant suggestions he did give us the names of two places and we asked if we should call for reservations as it was a Saturday evening. Because it was the off season he did not recommend them. Wrong... one place was 45 to 60 minutes and the other place was reservations only. We found aa suitable place on the edge of town. Comes the morning I went down at 8 am for the coffee... nope lobby dark and locked. Headed out about 9:30 am and found the manager and he joked how late we slept in and I informed him that I had been down at 8 am. He joked that I should have made the coffee for him... guess he forgot it was locked and that's his job.

Great Value for a Romantic Getaway

My husband and I stayed here for our first wedding anniversary and we had a marvelous time! After reading some less-than-favorable reviews on this site and another site, I was reluctant to book a room here. However, the fact that it had a Jacuzzi and a working fireplace sold me on it. I am so glad I went with my gut. I can't imagine why anyone would rate this place negatively. The room was so cozy and relaxing and the hot tub was huge. It was the perfect romantic getaway. It was also a great value. We paid $99 for a corner king room with a window seat/daybed. It was a privilege to stay in such a beautiful old house and we will be returning for years to come!
