Very colonial looking place. Staff was friendly. The breakfast pastries were amazing.

Only issue was I had to walk around the building when I arrived as the pastry shop was closed and no elevators. My room was up 14 steps which I could do but having an elevation option would have been nice. I assume people with disabilities stayed on the lower level rooms.

Enjoyed the music from a wedding one night and another night had music on the patio.

While the grounds are lovely, the main buildings are well-preserved, and the location in Sturbridge is fantastic (the Sunday farmers' market right across the street is a highlight!), the Country Motor Lodge rooms need significant renovation.

Although the room was clean, it felt 'tired and worn.' Specifically, the carpets are worn, the AC is loud, the bathrooms are outdated, and there are not enough power outlets. Fortunately, we weren't in the room much during our family reunion. On the plus side, the bake shop is popular, and the complimentary morning pastries, coffee, and tea are a nice touch. The small, well-maintained pool with its 3-foot shallow end and 5-foot deep end is also perfect for families.

We love Staying at Publick House Inn. We have stayed at the Historic Inn.twice. and the Chamberlain House.This time we stayed at the Tillyer Hpuse. The room was much smaller than the others. and more difficult to get to the restaurants (really good restaurants and bakery)
We liked the Historic Inn and Chamberlain House much better!

The property is dated but clean and comfortable. We stayed in the Country Motor Lodge which is on a hill above the main property. For the young a short walk to the restaurant, for us a car ride. The restaurant was excellent.

We were there to attend a 70th High School reunion lunch. The food and attention to detail was excellent.

I’ve stayed here many times and the visits have always been pleasant. My room was clean and spacious although the window air-conditioning unit was having a hard time keeping up in the heat wave. Still, I was able to sleep comfortably. Looking forward to my next stay.

Not quite a traditional hotel due to the "historic" nature of the property itself, and I was in one of the cheaper rooms just travelling alone on a quick business trip, but overall a very pleasant experience. Not modern, but quaint, and the surrounding area of Sturbridge was very charming. Nice setting.

We loved the look of the property and the rooms. There was a lot of character in the rooms, decorated with furniture from the colonial time period, yet up to date in modern conveniences. We stayed in the king suite in the Chamberline House. It was like our own apartment. Restaurants on site were good and the breakfast provided by the bake shop was a nice treat.
It was so close to Sturbridge Village and that was our original reason for staying there, but after being at the Publick House, we would go back even if we weren’t going to Sturbridge Village.

Quiet historic Inn and town. Love sitting on balcony to appreciate the birds, Revolutionary Cemetery and ancient trees. In town Enrico's Brick Oven has delicious gourmet pizza and icy cold Sangria. Inn provides delicious coffee and fresh baked pastries.

Only comment is, pet fee is a reasonable $25 but the pet room; altho clean and quiet, in sore need of upgrade in bathroom and floor carpet. We've stayed here 4x a year for over 20 years and love the ambiance and character.

I’ve stayed here several times, it’s a lovely hotel, the motor lodge is old but meticulously maintained in a style reminiscent of a 1940 drive up motel. The furniture is nice real hardwood, the beds are comfortable. The upstairs rooms in the motor lodge have high vaulted ceilings and they all have a unique foxhunt wallpaper and plush green carpets.

We stay here any time we are near Sturbridge and there are rooms available. It’s the best

The rooms were old and very musty. The grounds were beautiful, staff was excellent. The prices of the rooms were inconsistent. My daughter and I had the same exact room for the exact weekend and her room was $100 dollars less. Would I recommend this place or stay here again? No

The room was very nice. Not perfect...a small hole in the arm chair with stuffing hanging out, and the balcony was old and rusty. The air conditioning was noisy. Beyond that though, I was very very pleased, especially at the price point.

The room had one drawback. The electrical outlets need to be upgraded. Any device with substantial, such as a computer charger, would pull away from the outlet and lose connection. This could be remedied with a charging station that allows vertical plugin for devices. Also, USB ports would be helpful.

The Bathroom curtain was dirty. We were only staying there to sleep, so not a big deal, but definitely not great. The bathroom smelled that someone smoked there, but again not a big deal. The place is also very old style and has so much potential but some areas are not upkept to its full potential.

The check-in staff was not particularly helpful upon arrival. I was not provided with directions to my room, information regarding the complimentary pastries and coffee, or any notice that two weddings were taking place on the property during my stay, which resulted in a higher level of noise than expected. In retrospect, this may have contributed to the lower room rate.

The restaurant was satisfactory, and I especially appreciated that gluten-free bread was available.

The bed in the main house was very comfortable and contributed positively to the overall stay. One suggestion for improvement would be to install less transparent bathroom curtains, as visibility through them can compromise privacy.

We stayed in the Country Motor Lodge. It had the atmosphere and ambience of an old style 1970's motel. It is also some distance from the main building requiring a trip in the car unless one is up for a long walk up and down a hill. While the room was clean and quiet, it is probably not a place we would choose to stay again.

I stayed in the motor coach part of the property where dogs are allowed for an extra $25. I have stayed here several times & the rooms in this section are old, outdated, & not attractive. However, they are very clean which is what is important to me, & the grounds are lovely. The complimentary pastries from the bake shop are a plus.

Unique property. The motor inn section was older and the rooms are very basic but well maintained and the price was incredibly reasonable. I loved the wallpaper in the room, it definitely fit the Publick house brand. It was nice to be able to grab coffee and a pastry on my way out in the morning. An outstanding value if you are just looking for basic accommodations.

I liked the overall esthetic and historical legacy of the Publick House. It’s a unique place and the grounds are beautiful. I felt that the staff did a great job with the tools that they have.

There was a fair amount of miscommunication regarding the materials we had brought to complement the wedding rehearsal dinner and the wedding reception. These would be items like center pieces and other favors.

We had difficulty connecting with the person responsible for the storage and sake keeping of these items during check in. We were told to wait in a downstairs hallway for her to review and store the material, but she never came. I ended up getting a different staff member to assist us and she couldn’t find the responsible person. We placed the materials in a rack without fully knowing that they would be handled. That was our only difficulty.

I almost never write hotel reviews. Typically, the hotels are less than expected. This was exactly the opposite--a stay that exceeded our expectations in every way. The room was spacious, with beds and linens of good quality. We had a fabulous dinner at the Publick House restaurant, and then pastries for breakfast at the bake shop the following morning. The coffee machine in our wing of the hotel produced excellent lattes. Every staff interaction was pleasant. Walking around the neighborhood, especially the historic cemetery next door, was enjoyable. And, apparently due to the fact that we were passing through Sturbridge on a low-travel day, the room was cheap. Overall, it was a great experience and an amazingly good value. We would stay there again in a heartbeat, and might even plan future travels to dine there even if just passing through.

I have been traveling the east coast for years and in my travels I have stumbled across this beautiful gem. As I walk the main residence and dining halls I am transported back to when Lincoln and Jefferson walked. The dining room pairs ambiance with world class cuisines that remind the guest that you are some place special. The staff are amazing, the rooms are clean and fresh, the margaritas were on point and I will most definitely be back!

Access to the hotel from the expressway was easy. The beds were very comfortable and we appreciated extra comfortable chairs provided. The room had not been upgraded, and although the furniture was old, it was clean and serviceable. The parking was problematic. One parking spot was assigned for both the upstairs and the downstairs hotel room.

The food at Ebeneezer’s Tavern was mediocre at Best. I ordered a gin and tonic from the bar and the tonic was flat. They brought three replacements, but the tonic was flat in each one of them. It was undrinkable. The food was also very mediocre.
It is unlikely that we would stay there again.
