Breakfast was great. Room was ok, but the internet never worked. We just wanted to relax for the evening watching Netflix, but they tried to fix the Internet but it still didn’t work. I had the impression this wasn’t a one off. If this is important to you be aware of this.

There are better options nearby!

Breakfast is NOT like in the pictures! The only hotel in Mumbai I have to carry my suitcases through the reception. For three days nobody cleaned my room as I found under the door “because you put sign do not disturb…” but I never used it! There is a manager from time to time, but for 3 days I was not able to find him. The first room I checked in the AC wasn’t working but the staff just delayed me with one hour to wait. There is a better hotel with better breakfast on the same street

Recommend the Gordon Hotel

We had a lovely stay at the Gordon Hotel. It was 2 blocks to the Gateway to India, and easy to walk anywhere. Never felt unsafe. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pillows were comfortable.
We especially liked the restaurant on the main floor. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious and a very good price. We had breakfast every morning and enjoyed the fresh fruit and fresh juices. We loved that it included Indian options and enjoyed the buffet as well as the menu.
We also had both lunch and room service. Both delicious.
Overall I’d love to stay there again.

AVOID! (On Thursdays to Sundays)
ground floor is a nice Asian fusion restaurant, good service and food, third and fourth floors clean and nicely designed rooms, however the second floor is a non sound proofed fully operational nightclub (!) our room was directly above it and the noise was so bad, the mirrors were shaking and vibrating, we could hear everything, it was like being in the club. went to complain about midnight and met other residents who were at reception aswell. were placed on the fourth floor the next night, could still hear the music from the top but not as bad. The worse thing was as we were leaving, more guests were being booked into the rooms over the club.
Probably one of the bizarre experiences of staying in a hotel. All staff (who were great) agreed it was a problem, but nothing could be done about it. Ironically its situated on a nice quiet street. If situated in UK the hotel would be shut down with a noise abatement order immediately.

Very well maintained property. Clean and smelling good inside. Professional and courteous staff. Amazing location a block away from Gateway of India yet located on a quiet street so the noise and chaos outside does not enter the hotel. The hotel restaurant was on for breakfast, good enough to start the day. Did not have any other meals there. Room and bed were spacious for two people. Bathroom was good size with a well functioning shower.
I would recommend this place and also stay again in future.

We only stayed one night in this property. The location is excellent - very close to The Gate of India meaning that you can walk to a number of different places eg colaba causeway. The property itself is quite hidden away and doesn't look that impressive from the outside, however inside it is very well set up. It is quite small so not on the scale of much larger hotels. The staff were extremely helpful and the breakfast in the morning was very good. Despite the central location it was not noisy at night.

Stay away from this Hotel they are scammers. I had to leave earlier from this hotel because of my family emergency my flight boarding pass was printed by the manager he saw that i had to go back to Dubai i Canceled many other flights because i had to go back to Dubai still they refused to refund me for the nights i didn’t stay there how is this fair? I’ve always been told that indian people were the nicest people in the world and this is what i get? On top of this i used my credit card in their bar and it was copied and someone purchased stuff with it. The hotel looks nice but the rooms smells so bad we couldn’t sleep at night and the music from their night club shakes the rooms. For the price it’s so not worth it you can get better hotel. I will tell all my friends and families about my experience with them and im a social media manager i will make sure that no one from Canada goes to them after this poor experience.

Unwanted company in my bed, on the second night woke up to find 3 cockroaches on my bed, not what you would expect from a middle to high bracket hotel, i was moved to another room which was fine , there was no apology from management about this so maybe assume its not a rare experience , noise from the nightclub below until late not good either so very disappointed with my stay

Stayed their for my visa interview. Hotel Room is very spacious, clean and having very good facilities. Only problem I noticed is in bath room shower the hot and cold water was not flowing continuously and stopped intermittently sometimes. Breakfast was decent and I liked it. Staff is also good.

Nightclub one floor below!

The hotel and staff were great but when we got back to our room the floor was vibrating from the noise of the nightclub on the first floor immediately below. I have never heard such noise in a hotel room. To be fair it was the night before NYE and a Saturday but still shocking! It may have been better if we were on the 3rd floor or higher. The staff were nice but couldn't do anything about it. They had a large stash of ear plugs at reception. Unfortunately I would not recommend this otherwise lovely hotel.

We had an amazing stay at the Gordon House over the Christmas Holiday. It's location is perfect and it is an amazing value. We will stay at the Gordon House for our next trip to Mumbai. 2 blocks from Gateway to India, 2 blocks from art galleries.

This is a nightclub, not a hotel !

Not recommended to stay on a Friday or Saturday night as this place wants to be a hotel AND a nightclub. No chance of any sleep until the bar closes at 1.30am and the management doesn't give a dam; upon checkout they suggested they had an althernative room but made no attempt beforehand. My original allocated room had a vile smell but would also not have escaped the thud-thud-thud of the nightclub. Not an acceptable hotel on a Friday or Saturday night

Welcoming hotel with character in Colaba

A very nice hotel with three different themes for the rooms. The staff are welcoming and helpful.
The breakfast selection is very broad with a buffet and a good selection of freshly cooked dishes too.
The location is fantastic with many sights in easy walking distance such as the Gateway of India, Marine Drive and Nariman point.

The only drawback is the nightclub in the same building. If you are not a sound sleeper, then you might want to bring some earplugs.

Good hotel and good location

A good hotel, although taxi driver found it difficult to find, so best to print off a map if not sure where you are going. Excellent location close to the Gateway to India and good restaurants (Leopold was good with plenty of buzz) and Colaba Social Club was also nice for a drink and close by. Others have mentioned the small bathrooms, but the rest of the room more than makes up for that if you aren't planning to spend hours in the bathroom. Service throughout was good and friendly and I thought this was excellent value for money for a big city,

Really nice hotel with great staff/service. Bathroom a little small but room very clean. Nice extras such as welcome drink, daily newspaper, water and bathroom accessories.
Only downside is the bar/club on first floor - great fun when you're at the bar but if trying to sleep then pretty much impossible before 1am - bring good ear plugs. Would stay at this hotel again as location and staff excellent.

Book For the Location.

Being an old favourite boutique hotel, I booked this for nostalgia.
Other than that, if I were to have stayed there now for the first time, I definitely would have mixed reactions.
Nothing can beat the location of this hotel. If you traveling to Bombay for pleasure, this is where one needs to stay. Great neighborhood. Best cultural experience you can have.
Other than that, the property being old, there are some basic issues. Air conditioning sure was a problem. And in Bombay summer, it's extremely uncomfortable when the AC isn't optimum.
And this being Bombay with space constraints, the bathrooms are way too small.
But overall, great place.

The Gorden House Hotel is in an excellent position

Only a few minutes walk to the palace, gateway, leopard cafe, markets across the street. The staff directed us easily to everything we needed. I recommend it, especially to first time travellers to Mumbai like us. Also, well priced and the food was good, especially the lunches Havana on the second floor. We didn't hear any noise on the saturday night from the nightclub.

In town for business and wanted a well priced, clean & secure hotel that was easy to get in and out of for various meetings in Colaba. This hotel was exactly that. Didn't have any issues with the nightclub noise that was reported on other reviews but then I was there on a Mon & Tues night. Staff very helpful. Would stay here again.

Would have been perfect, but although my room was excellent, there was a constant noise, day and night, still there when you switch off the AC, made it difficult to sleepat night. I signalled it when I checked in , nothing could be done. Stayed there 5yrs ago, the problem was already existant disappointing.

Gordon House Colaba - Mumbai - Worst hotel ever...

It was one of the worst experience for me. I reached the hotel at 3:15PM. Inspite of 12PM checkin, reception asked me to wait for 30 more minutes as room was not ready. After I checked in, I called at least 3 times before some one came and helped me with the Safe which was not working. Finally they changed the safe. Late night, I started hearing loud noise and my room floor was vibrating as there was a discotheque near my room. After complaining, they changed my room at 1AM in the midnight. Reception was aware of this problem, still they gave me this room. I had to get up at 4AM to be ready for Mumbai Marathon #SCMM. I barely got 2hrs sleep. I would never again recommend this hotel to anyone.

The location is great for the price but some of the front desk staff were cold and unhelpful. The room was great but the room service food was atrocious. I was given a raw chicken burger and a ceasar salad that was about 4 days old. The staff were unapologetic about the raw chicken which was odd, wouldn't recommend the food.

The bar plays such loud music that tge hold building shakes at the middle of the night. Couldnt sleep at all at night upto 3 am. Hotrible experience. Will never stay again neither will reccomend to anyone else. It is less an hotel and more a bar mimicking a disco.

Very well maintained hotel, relax experience

I stayed here in Sept 2014 for a night with my fiancé. It was a very good experience. The room was of 5 start quality with every possible amenities available in the room, I was amazed to see everything in there. My fiancé loved it all :-) The morning breakfast was very good, right from Indian menu (On Demand) to continental menu were available.
The only disappointment was that, I used their Computer/Desktop with internet facility for my office work purpose, they charged me extra for that with per hour usage rate wherein the internet speed was very poor because of which it took me 1 hour for 15 mins of work! I think this kind of facility should be free of cost at such hotels!

Anyway, the overall experience was very good, I would definitely come to this place again when I visit Mumbai next.

A bit overrated hotel

The location of the hotel is good - right behind iconic Taj Mahal Hotel and walking distance from Gate Way of India. Rooms are quite well maintained but the bath rooms are quite ill mainitained especially the fittings of the bath room. Think its a bit expensive hotel for the quality that they offer. However, the food of the resturant and breakfast spread is outatanding - sort of compensates..

Charming, convenient and clean.

We chose the hotel based on reviews that emphasized its cleanliness, and were not disappointed. It was spotless and the rooms were cleaned daily.

The staff were great and did not have their hands out for tips all the time. The concierge, Matthew, was excellent in everything from booking tours for us, to recommending places to eat.

The breakfast was wonderful, and the restaurant (which many locals used) had excellent suppers and lunches as well.

And you couldn't beat the location - just 2 short blocks from the Gateway to India.

Previous reviewers complained about the noise of the nightclub, but it is no longer there, so the room was quiet.

The room was charming, although not large (room sizes vary - friends had a larger one).

Great Location, Good Service, Poor Beds

Gordon House, we checked in for leisure, Fantastic Location has some finest of the bars that are stones throw away. Right at the beginning of Colaba Causeway the hotel has the location that steals the minus of it being pricey for a 3 Star Deluxe (6400 inclusive - rate of a 5 star if you do an advance purchase) Great Service, Good Food yes we liked all this about this place. What we didn't like is we had requested for a Mediterranean Room with a king Size Bed but we were offered the country style room with single beds that were attached together to make it look like a King Size Bed which makes your Bed experience a little too uncomfortable. No Gym within the Hotel for someone who is fitness conscious can turn you off. Anyway we were there for just a night so yes it wasn't a bad stay but yes the management can look into offering the basic preference like a king size Bed if it is an advance purchase.

Any good points ruined by owners. Awful.

We cut short our stay, in fact I booked an alternative before even going to bed on the first night. The whole building was shaking until 0300 because of the nightclub on the first floor. Other guests complained and checked out early as well. I was told that despite many complaints, the owners would not alter the hours or volume of the club. I saw for myself that on a Friday night it was EMPTY except for staff. I complained directly but was refused a copy of my complaint- a management policy. I am awaiting a full refund from hotels dot com. Rooms are clean and nicely themed, staff on duty are polite and helpful but are powerless about the nightlub situation and could only be apologetic. Genuine plus points completely ruined by an awful experience arising from ignorant management.

Great little hotel in excellent location

We spent 2 nights in this hotel. Excellently located 1 minute from the Gateway of India and approx 45 minute taxi ride from the airport. The room was clean and well equipped including wi-fi. The buffet style breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The only possible downside was the nightclub Polly Esters, located in he hotel basement. This could prove noisy in some rooms but we were well away from it on the 4th floor.

Convenient Location, comfortable space, but the cleanliness standards it seems almost anywhere in India can use improvement. There is definitely a late night dance club downstairs that me disturb some guests, but I wasn't phased. Intended to stay up late anyway. Service seemed good, though while I was in my room a staff member came by for seemingly no reason (saying he wanted to check the mini bar but I had been there all of 20 minutes), and since i saw the review about possible theft at this hotel it did make me feel somewhat suspicious . I was actually grateful that I was too tired that day from all my extensive traveling to actually leave the hotel. I wondered if I dodged a bullet, but it's hard to actually say if theft is an actual trend at this location or not. Otherwise, service was good. They arranged a car for me the next day. Communication was lacking from the concierge desk, to the door, to the driver (he wanted to charge me double the quoted rate - always make sure to get clear on rates, directly with the person you're paying, right off the bat - in India especially), but eventually we figured it out. Food at All Stir Fry was only OK in my opinion.

Gordon house has an excellent location in the heart of south Mumbai's shopping & commercial district! Overall a good value for money option in South Mumbai!
