Absolutely shocking stay me and my wife left the hotel by 22.30. We stayed in an executive double room so was expecting a large comfy bed god no it was 2 single beds pushed together which were hard as a plank of wood. I’ll give the night guy on reception credit he did try to give us another room like ours but had same outcome bed was rock solid (we stayed in room 301). Hotel definitely gone downhill stayed there a good few times before and never had this problem total waste of money >:(

The room was nice and clean. The bed was a little uncomfortable in parts. It had a kettle which is great. The annoying thing there was no plug socket by the bed to charge your phone in to. I would stay there again, staff were friendly, was only their for one night on business so was only there to sleep so can not comment on food

Lovely hotel. Friendly reception staff. Bed really comfy. We also really enjoyed the leisure facilities. The only downside was that the bar only had one person serving so we waited in a queue for 20 mins for a drink. Help did arrive, but not very professional service from the additional server. Having said that, we would definitely stay here again.

This hotel caters mainly for coach trips do service is skewed towards large parties rather than solo travellers, having said that, staff were as friendly and efficient as they could be but they were run off their feet. Great deal on set dinner and the pool was a real bonus.

Great locations. Great hotel staff lovely. Breakfast all waiting so nothing cooked fresh. Small selection of food. Which isnt bad but could do with a little more option. I understand the hotel caters for the coach parties. But when they have children in the hotel, a childs option on the menu would help.

The hotel was really nice and the staff were very helpful. We were able to check in early as our room was ready and we were able to leave our bags at the hotel after checking out so we could go round the town.
The room was very nice, although the fridge wasn't very cold and one of the mattresses was very soft, a bit like a water bed but I slept ok.
Breakfast was amazing! The choices and taste, the services was very good and we weren't rushed to eat our food.
We didn't use the pool, but I'm not sure I liked the fish bowl effect where people from outside can see you in the pool.
Overall a very good experience.

Property needs renovation how ever well maintained. Satisfactory loved the location and room.
The best of all is staff everyone were good .the Gardner, receptionist both the girl and the boy on the day of arrival excellent service. A credit goes to a young lad came over to the room and fix the Fan. As well as a great smile and service.

My room was stylish, spacious and very comfortable and was “tidied” every day by housekeeping staff. Staff on reception were polite and helpful.
I did not use the restaurant facilities or the swimming pool/ jacuzzi so cannot comment on them. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, I enjoyed my stay and the location of it is very good for sightseeing around Bournemouth.

Old, faded and tired

The Norfolk Royale is a hotel that was once one of Bournemouth's most prestigious hotels but it has now lost it's sparkle and has faded into just another hotel.

Upon checking in, I was advised the breakfast would be busy as they had a number of coach parties booked in. Almost all the guests were OAPs enjoying a trip to the coast.

My room was a great size but very tired and in need of redecorating and updating. It was extremely noisy from the traffic until quite late.

Strangely, the hotel didn't appear to have a restaurant so I was obliged to find dinner elsewhere. Breakfast was well managed by pleasant staff.

My view is that the Norfolk Royale is not a hotel I would return to.

This hotel is old might be older than Bournemouth itself and full of OAP which is not a problem but that’s who they cater for
Bed was good bathroom good scaffolding not so good
We stayed ten days later we had two parking charge notices £100’each two cars rang hotel nothing to do with us
They have a under ground car park not managed by them which they told me when I rang to complain machine which is clever not to register car in entry then you end up paying the wrong fee and then you get the fine for over staying very clever never stay here again customers be careful rip off and no help when I rang to complain.

Great location just a few little quirks

Check in was slow as no one available but he was lovely when arruved. Check out lady coukdve had more of a personality. Shame that scaffolding was being put up so no lay in. Great location though, clean room. Shame couldnt book hot tub and pool as night manager was unhelpful.

Nice hotel, close to the centre and an easy walk to the beach. Very clean. A bit dated in areas - but nothing to worry about.
Tip - if you are using the pool bring flip flops and a robe as the changing rooms are down some stairs and are a bit cold - this way yiu could just straight from/to your room.

It’s a beautiful hotel at an amazing location. Loved the room and my favourite part about the stay was the pool and jacuzzi, just fab!! However, the breakfast was terrible- we were hoping for a buffet but they gave us a single plate of vegetarian breakfast- had very less options in food and it was very oily! Stay here however, have breakfast at a local cafe next door as there are many many options outside.

Great location for BIC however, wasnt impressed with the room. It was incredibly hot in there, we had to prop the window open with a toilet roll, which meant we had to listen to the traffic and the locals outside during the night. Which coincided with the other hotel residents slaming the doors in the early hours.
The bed was very soft and lumpy, the room was ok overall but needed some tlc - damp marks on the wall, leaky soap dispenser.
Breakfast was basic but did the job.

It was really nice and lovely, check in was pretty easy, but we have paid extra for a room with a patio and a king size bed. We approached A lady who works morning shift with this issue, she said the key to patio was lost, so she brought a key from a different room thinking it would fit… it just seems an unsafe option for all patio doors to have exactly the same key, thank god it did not fit. She offered to exchange room to 2 single beds which we did not agree to as we book one king for a reason and after that she couldn’t help us with it anymore. Also we were coming back from town and wanted to book a slot for a pool and straight away her answer was “pool facilities are only for hotel guests” which is quite rude way to respond. She could have asked if we stayed there instead. A huge shout out to Levi (not sure if I spelt his name right) worked from 2:30pm to 10pm. Really nice guy ! Made our stay very welcoming and friendly.

Service was floorless
The building was looking old and tired, need a lot of love putting into it.
Breakfast was made with cheap ingredients and not worth the money. We didn't enjoy it at all and only eat a few items. The coffee was undrinkable, orange juice watery.
The food is obvious the food was cooked before and kept warm as was brought to the table in 5 minutes.
So this on top of cheap ingredients and warm food makes this b/fast 1 out of 10

All in all a very nice stay it’s the hotel I always stay at when visiting bournmouth although the facilities and staff are good we didn’t think much of the cleanliness on the communal areas especially all the staircases also the cha hung facilities in the swimming pool and a floor down from the actual pool so it was a bit cold coming out the pool then having to go downstairs to get changed but all in all it was a nice stay.

Good hotel, room was nicely presented and clean. Pressure from the shower wasn’t great and floor was very slippy when getting out. The fan on the wall randomly started making a loud noise at 7.30am which woke us up! Very squeaky floorboards so can hear every movement from room above.
Overall thou we had a pleasant stay and breakfast was good value.

Check in was slow and poor. We arrived at 1.00 pm knowing check in was 4.00 pm but completed paperwork and told to come back at 3.45 Arrived back at 3.55 and was told not sure if room was ready and to wait for 5 mins. Some 20 mins later we had not been approached so went back to the desk to be given the door card with no mention of anything. The rooms are dim tired and dated. They appear clean if you don’t look to hard but I am a facilities manager so I look hard. Bathroom floor must have not seen a mop or a wash for a while and room generally dusty. Hotels. Com had this rated as 4 star. I would suggest 3 star then expectations would be lower

When we arrived the hotel looks quite grand from outside. It’s a bit jaded in places, needs upgrading and refurbishing really. Our room was a superior room but was dirty, hairs all over the floor and carpet, food crumbs etc which was very of putting. Told staff and they would have moved us to another room but we had a tight schedule and was going out. On our return there was no staff around so we stayed in the room we had been given.
Breakfast was adequate. Would not book again as there are far better hotels local for the same money. Room wasn’t cheap but the feel was.
No gym, tiny swimming pool. Sorry wanted this to be a hidden gem but overall disappointed

Bad attitude of certain staff

Hotel and room where lovely . The bar opened at 4.30 and closed at 11 which meant it was closed on arrival and closed after returning from concert . Also when we asked for extra teas and coffees for room on return. The reception was un manned . When a member of staff turned up he basic did not care . I said i was surprised by his lack of service . To which he said ' not his problem ' .terrible advert for hotel and poor attitude to a paying customer. To top it all ,twice staff enter room with pass key without knocking first . Shame as hotel is lovely but would never stay there again.

Visiting this hotel was like visiting my grandma's house: comfortably worn and immaculately clean. It was an interesting mix of new and old. New mattresses with antique-looking chandeliers. Beautiful new bathrooms (great showers!) and out-of-fashion carpet. I love it. This eclectic mix is just my style.

The front desk service was welcoming and comprehensive. The staff gave great directions, as the rooms were around a restaurant and then another corner. The pool allows 6 people maximum, so it's recommended to book a swim time when you arrive although we had no problem booking for an immediate swim. The hot tub was sandy and the water was quite chlorinated.

Our family room was comfortable. There wa a large wardrobe, desk, cabinet with TV, double bed and bunk beds. The mattresses were firm and springy. The linens are crisp, clean, and white.

The reason I docked a star is because the housekeeper should be given 5 more minutes per room. The lamps were dusty and when I flipped over the bathroom floor mat after showering, the bottom had dirt smudges.

This hotel proves that if it's not broke, don't fix it. The facilities look old at first glance, but everything is operational and clean. The bathrooms are stunningly clean and renovated. The pool facilities are exceptional - which also includes a hot tub - and you're provided with towels. The only fault on this hotel is the early check out time of 10am.

Modernising the interiors and rooms is much needed. Electricity sockets placed in inconvenient locations and no usb power points.

The loss of parking is a real shame.

3 hour trip from Eastbourne, very pleased with the cleanliness and look of the hotel. Staff very friendly. Car park easy to find. However the bed was very uncomfortable and we could feel the springs so had to lay on top of the duvet. Bed was also very clearly two singles pushed together as the sheet did not fit properly.

A character hotel, all the staff were helpful but due to the age of the hotel the floorboards throughout were extremely creaky. We had to leave very early morning and found it difficult to creep around quietly. Would have been nice to have had bottled water in the bedrooms, some herbal or decaff teas.
