Room needs another socket for phone charging maybe a usb style socket,and sink has been squeezed into room as shower room was to small,toilet seat was loose and needed wobbling to stay up,also the radiator bar is to close to the toilet and I accidentally touched it with my leg whilst on toilet.There is an ironing board but I couldn't find an iron.

Location was fantastic, right opposite the BIC as we had booked a show. We were able to park before check-in so it was very convenient. Checked-in on time, Receptionist was friendly. Found our room at the very back of the hotel, i havevto say it was clean but dated. It was cold on arrival but we thought it would improve. We went to watch the show at the BIC and returned quite late to a hotel room that was freezing. We did think about ringing Reception but it was late and couldn't be bothered to go to the desk as we were far away through numerous fire doors and staircases. The radiators in our room were nearly always cold. We slept in our clothes as we were so cold and the hot water wasn't that hot. The tv in the room wouldn't work either and as the people in the room above moved around it sounded like the ceiling was going to cave in.
Im not sure if the rest of the hotel rooms were anymore modernised but it felt like we were out in the overflow building which certainly wasn't a comfortable experience. Sorry for the poor review but was not enjoyable.

I’ve stayed at the hotel many times over the year. It’s in need of a massive refurb. Weather was cold but old sash windows let too much cold in, shower was horrendous. It’s a great location but sadly needs a makeover, with that said, you get what you pay for.

Lovely hotel in a period building, friendly staff, spacious room and comfortable bed.
My only criticism is the shower. The head was fixed so could not rinse out the bath and also whenever we took a shower the shower curtain wrapped round you as it was flimsy material, seemed unhygienic as it would have done it to everyone who stayed there and doubt it is cleaned/disinfected as the shower head is not removable to wash it down.

I didn't like the fact that I asked for a disabled room and I didn't get one and had to have help to get my scooter over a step to get down the corridor that my room was on. I even called the hotel before I stayed to request a disabled room which made it worse. Also they don't have a restaurant like the say on their website, it has closed down so you can't even get a hot meal. I certainly will not be staying at this hotel again

Warm could have been a little warmer but thats my only complaint. 30 mins from train station ( walking) couple of mins walk to beach and shops. Will book again .

Came on a spontaneous trip and booked this very last minute, it was great location, great price and perfect for a short stay! We enjoyed the 1812 bar and the live music, staff were super lovely, room was clean and tidy and the bed was comfortable! We will definitely be returning next time we are in Bournemouth!! Thank you

The noise levels have I creased massively since my last stay. My original room and major issues with the water and electricity.
The restaurant and 1812 bar staff were brilliant. The \"manager\" was not helpful and by the end of may stay; wouldn't even look me in the eye. My first room had drainage and electrical issues and my second room had problems too. WiFi works ok on floor two but not very well at the crack of dawn. Breakfast was good and came without any fuss

Perfect if you’re blind and deaf.

What a joke. Tired rooms. Lying management and staff. Thumping loud music that shakes the windows, doors and to until 4am.
When we complained, reception said that they send an email out to bookers saying about the loud music. We received no email. Reception lied when we checked in to say there was live music playing in the bar until 1.
It was a a nightclub playing distorted music until 4am.

Why would anyone pay to stay in a room where you can’t sleep because of incredibly loud music below shaking the room.

Bed and room was tired. Bath was discoloured. Tiles mouldy.

It was a complete joke compounded by some of the poorest customer service I’ve experienced.

Impressive when we turned up, but as we went upstairs and down the multiple corridors there was signs and odours of damp problems. The room was dated and also had damp issues, there was a dehumidifier in the corner which said it all. Luckily we were staying in the summer I couldn’t imagine this being very nice in the winter months

Gates on the car park, our room was fairly quiet and nice, although a bit dated, shower wasn’t very good.

The property is very conveniently located. It is in a historic building – built in 1812 – but I don’t think of the property has been maintained since then! Damp patches all over the ceilings, electrical sockets hanging out of the wall, the bathroom door had a hole completely through it. There are very lively clubs beneath it, which are quite noisy, but we knew this and were okay with it. It is really the condition of the bedrooms that let the place down.

Great hotel. Have been coming for years for an annual birthday night out with a group of friends. Guy at reception was very friendly, especially as we were concerned we may not be able to park there as no space, but did manage to in the end. Hotel is great...not the most modern, no, but homely and rooms have always been spacious, clean and welcoming. The bar/club is great for a night out. Would definitely recommend. Very close to town centre and beach too. Well done Royal Exeter!

Arrived, parked in their secure car park checked in room reasonable everything going well until the ground floor nightclub opened loud music blaring out all evening so we asked for another room but were told us there were none available but they did offer us some ear plugs! We were informed the nightclub would be open until the early hours. We checked out at 00.30 and left. Avoid if won't a good night's sleep

Our room was very spacious as we upgraded to a four poster bedroom (room 120), but what we gained with having a great room we lost out on the view out of the bedroom window (limited to just a view of a flat roof). Only after booking was I made aware that this hotel can be very noisy at the weekends - worth consider considering if you will be there on a Friday or Saturday night. Was informed that there would be music till 1am which was ok with but it lasted till 4.25AM…did not sleep very well and neither did the wife. Had water dripping through the ceiling at one point in the early evening and was told that someone would come and check and change the room but nothing happened!! Would not stay here again. Room very old and worn…hotel needs a lot of money spent to bring it up to a better standard.

Came for a concert at the International Centre which is literally across the street, so it was a perfect location. Also 10 min walk from the beach. Very recommended! Thank you :)

I was on a solo trip and this hotel was perfect for my needs. Location was brilliant turn left for the beach, turn right for the town and restaurants.
The breakfast was freshly cooked in the beautiful bar area.

The hotel is over 100 years old, and sadly, it needs updating! If you book understand the age, and your room will need updates.

Also, there is a nightclubs on site at hotel, which is loud and very active on Friday and Saturday nights. It can interfere with sleeping.

Due to the need of updating and nightclub, I am rating as a 3. But, again, the staff is fantstic!

Arrived to find the car park was full. Completely disinterested reception staff advised me it’s ’first come, first served’ just what I wanted to hear after a 5 hour drive. No sympathy, just ‘you can park next door, they are cheaper’ next door was a car park on a rocky bit of land with a steep uphill climb. If you have mobility issues, this is not the place for you.

Room was fine, shower pressure was not, at least the water was warm.

Fun fact, my room was 54 yards from the nearest nightclub (according to Google) which played music until 5 am Saturday morning and 4am Sunday morning.

Breakfast was fine, overall experience was fine, apart from the car park and loud music. Would not recommend if you’re looking for a good nights sleep

2 minutes from the BIC

It was ideal for the BIC we were able to just cross over the road from the hotel to see Gary Barlow at the Bic .Lively music on the Friday in the hotel and next door if you want a quiet hotel its not for you, but if you want to dance the night away you can!

Fantastic overnight stay at Royal Exeter hotel in Bournemouth from start to finish. Friendly staff, good room, delicious breakfast. Went to a show at the BIC and loved coming back to extend the evening at 1812 disco afterwards. Will definitely be back!

Negatives …..Our room had a large crack in the ceiling above the bed, where they have had a massive leak, it looked like it was going to fall in on us at any moment !! Bath had a chip in it, bathroom lights only 1 working out of 4 and shower was just lukewarm even on hottest setting .

This is an older property, the third floor bedrooms were chilly and generated a lot of condensation which was uncomfortable to sleep in.

Old large hotel not geared for comfort but for music and bar which was good. Room very basic usual old hotel en-suite small as was room bed very comfortable and small shower but good pressure and hot water. No where to eat on Monday in the hotel . Normally a sushi bar open but believe on Sundays they do a good roast. The breakfast and service was excellent though. Good for one night stay as opposite BiC which we wanted. Managed to park in gated car park as not too busy but they won’t guarantee you a place even with a disabled badge😩

Very shabby and tired noisy single room. The floorboards were so creaky that you felt uncomfortable walking around because of the noise. Very outdated decor. Very old fashioned. Haven’t seen a toilet like that or the type of lampshade for years! Overlooked the car park and there was a lot of noise by the bins! Desperately in need of a total refurb.

Lovely quiet stay!

I stayed from Sunday to Tuesday and the hotel was silent! I did start thinking I may have been the only one there! The room was very clean and had everything I needed. Being by the coast, it does get really cold at night which I'm not used to being from London so Tanya, the receptionist, kindly provided me with a portable heater as the radiators in the rooms were on a timer and did not switch on. I loved the décor of the hotel, it's absolutely beautiful, the wood against the red really works making it look very luxurious! The only thing that I feel is a major concern is how creaky the floors are!! Not just in the rooms but in the corridors, I'm guessing when the hotel is full, this could be an issue for people staying there. Overall, I had a really nice stay. The hotel is in a really convenient place being a few minutes walk from the beach and pier, and across the road is the BIC which I know they have music concerts there. Tanya the receptionist was very polite, welcoming and always had a smile on her face! She gave me all the information I needed about my stay and did not hesitate to help if I needed anything. She truly is a valuable member of staff. I had the breakfast on one of my mornings there and it was delicious so I would say take this option with your booking! I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel. I would be booking again without a doubt.

The staff were very courteous and polite, parking was £8 on their grounds which I thought was reasonable, especially when they let us use the car park till the next book in at 2pm even though we booked out by 11 am.
There is a night club/late bar on the ground floor so be aware that you can still hear this on the second floor which is where our room was. It wasn't ridiculously loud to be fair.It didn't keep us awake and a bonus if you fancy an after hours night-cap.

Bathroom could do with a curtain rather than a net curtain as when you have the light on at night you feel overlooked by neighbouring properties. Nice hotel with an adjoining sushi bar. Sadly, we were not allowed to eat in the restaurant, as there were only two groups. The chef bought our breakfast to our room. It was delicious, but I’d have preferred it at a table. The staff were all friendly and the place was lovely.
