The hosts were extremely polite and welcoming. They explained all the house rules in detail and kindly recommended great places to eat nearby. The place was spotless, warm, and very comfortable for an overnight stay with my husband and our two kids. We would definitely come back. We would have loved to stay longer, but we had to return to Tokyo right away to catch our flight.

This place was a very cute, homely, with a family owned ryokan vibe. We had a nice spacious room, the biggest we had in our whole trip to Japan, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
The futons were so comfortable compared to other futons we slept on at other ‘trendy’ ryokans. The onsen was very nice and relaxing, they offered both private and public onsen and amenities.
The styling is old fashioned but this added to the charm of the place for me and I would definitely stay here again!

This place is incredible, everyone was so friendly. And it’s so unique and beautiful. Everything is super accessible and easy to find. Literally only 2 minutes from train station. The food was amazing both dinner and breakfast is very worth it. I am definitely going to book again.

We enjoyed our stay at this onsen hotel. The staff were very accommodating and made us feel welcome, and we were able to use the private onsen, which was refreshing after a long day. The only downside was that the room smelled strongly of gas due to the gas heaters, but we adjusted to it. The best part was waking up to a foot of snow! Very beautiful.

He gave us drive to the snow monkey park which saved so much time and energy! Appreciate a lot!
There is one private onsen which was the right size for two people. And could stay there as much as we wanted without reservation. There are two more public onsen too but we did not use this time.
Staffs were all so kind and nice, will definitely want to stay here if I want ryokan again in nagano!

We were hoping to stay in a traditional ryokan with access to an onsen and Seifuso did not disappoint. The room was beautiful and the mattresses were set up when we arrived (we travelled late and arrived after 8). One of the owners drove us to the monkey park and pointed out the bus stop to get back which was seamless. Highly recommend this property for a stay! Wish we had been able to avail of their meals which looked delicious. If we're back in Yudanaka, I'd definitely stay here again.

This has been one of the best places we stayed in Japan. The room was so spacious and very cosy in the winter. The onsens were so relaxing and very clean. We booked to have dinner one night and the food was amazing, so thoughfully prepared, it was an event in itself. The location is great as it's right next to the train for Negano and the bus for the Snow Monkeys.

A true ryokan experience in a property that is 810 years old! But it looks nothing like a 810 years old building as the exterior and interior were well-maintained and kept really neat and clean.

The family running this ryokan were very helpful and friendly with sorting us out during our stay. They were keen to recommend places around the vicinity and helped with our luggage forwarding. Highly recommend dining in the ryokan as well as you will be served a table full of spectacular japanese cuisine.

There was also a dedicated parking space for those who drive. There is some food options and a well-stocked lawson within walking distance from the accomodation but I would recommend driving in this beautiful town.

The room we got was a traditional tatami room with a sink and toilet attached to the room. In the property, there is also 3 separate onsen bath with one of them being a private onsen. The private onsen were perfect for my partner and I as we really needed the onsen during the winter period.

The stay was an experience we won't forget and certainly would revisit in the near future. Thank you for the hospitality and the homemade jam!

Spacious room with natural onsen

Spacious Japanese style room where no thick mattress was provided. The soft duvet like mattress was comfortable. There was no bath room inside the room itself. Likely because most people will make use of the natural hot spring pool. We were told that our family can have one of the hot spring pools for ourselves without the need to share with other guests. This is a family run hotel. Only the young gentleman can speak English. We were given some sweet and juicy and big Japanese apples as souvenir when we checked out. There were not many restaurants opened during our visit. If you have a car, just drive to nearby outlets to have your meal.

Great staff but keep expectations low.

The staff were super nice and sweet but the non-refundable booking isn’t great especially given that there can be unexpected extreme weather conditions that can make it very difficult to get there. Also, the pictures must be quite old because while this place is still very Japanese and beautiful it has fallen somewhat into disrepair. There are chunks of carpet missing, cracks in the walls and the furniture is obviously very old and also not looking it’s best. Given the price I was expecting a little more effort.

Great traditional Japanese hotel with onsen

This is an amazing hotel. Our family went there on our trip to the Snow Monkey park. This hotel made our trip really more memorable. The staff is very friendly. The hotel is in a traditional Ryokan style, so it provides a deep dive into traditional Japanese hospitality (including the futon beds on the floor etc). A highlight in this hotel are the hot water pools (onsen). There is a large public one but also a private one for the family. What a relaxing experience.
The hotel is walking distance from the train station. We were provided free transport to the Snow Monkey Park from the hotel, which was really a time and money-saver. We walked back from the Monkey park as it was uphill from the hotel (40 minutes walk with beautiful sights) but there is also a public bus to the train station.

What a wonderful place! After our checkin we were asked if we wanted to see the Snow Monkeys....we were driven up and the monkeys were great. The staff were so helpful. The onsens were very relaxing and each one is different. As a couple we were able to use the inside one privately whenever we liked.
We were fortunate enough to order breakfast and it is a traditional Japanese breakfast served in a beautiful room. It was delicious and excellent value. I can not recommend this place highly enough. When we checked out the staff was so nice that he gave us a jar of their own apples. What a lovely touch.

I loved staying at Yudanaka Seifuso!
The building itself has an authentic rustic charm, which is improved by the warm welcome and kind service from the hosts. I loved the dinner and breakfast, and being provided transport to the nearby Monkey Park is deeply appreciated.

I’ve only tried the outdoor onsen, and it was truly relaxing to sit there under the moonlight after a long day of trekking and sightseeing.

I loved staying here and would gladly do so again the next time I’m in Japan. ありがとうございました！

Its a great family run business, with amazing onsens( hot springs) on site. The guy who ran it would give us a ride up to the monkey park when we asked which was amazing. New hot water in our room everyday for green tea which was a great way to end our day. Would stay here again, very close to the train station as well which is nice.

We loved the whole unique traditional experience of the ryokan. We spent two nights here and could have easily stayed another two if time had permitted. Our room was truly lovely, the tatami mats and bedding were so cozy, the heat lamps under the table were even cozier! The two Onsen we bathed in were amazing and we were able to use them privately which was a real bonus for us being our first Onsen experience. The only thing that would have made our experience complete ( and through no fault of the owner) was if it had snowed whilst we were there! It snowed two days before we arrived and snowed two days after we left, lol. Overall a fantastic experience!

This is a traditional Japanese ryokan and I loved the history of the building and the place and the traditional onsens available for guests to use. The rooms were very large and I had breakfast and dinner in a private tatami room. The family the runs it are friendly and try to be helpful, but speak little English. The main owner drove me to the monkey park, and they helped take my luggage up to the third floor and back again. Wifi worked great and meals were excellent.

The property could use a few upgrades though. The carpets are quite old and while traditional, the mats to sleep on are quite thin and it was very uncomfortable. I didn't sleep much in 2 nights there. Being on the third floor, there was no bathroom on that level so I had to go down a flight in the middle of the night to use the one on the 2nd floor. A bit inconvenient, and if you have issues with stairs ask for a room on a lower level.

the actual hotel is unlike what is depicted in the photo. although it is reasonably clean, including the room, the overall atmosphere is one of aging and tiredness. However, the owner was kind enough to drive us to the monkey park entrance, much appreciated. Our breakfast provided was also good. The private onsen was good for 3 of us ladies.

Our time here was so relaxing and wonderful! This inn is beautiful, clean and well cared for. The owners are very helpful and attentive - my boyfriend had an allergy to down (which we forgot to notify the inn about before arriving) - they quickly fixed the bedding situation and gave us extra blankets. The inn also has a wonderful private onsen that is great for couples at no extra charge! It is very close to Yudanaka station and we were even given a ride to the monkey park in the morning. There are also great restaurants nearby - the izakaya up the street is cozy and Tamaya (also up the street) serves amazing chanko nabe. I highly recommend this inn to anyone visiting the monkey park! We had a wonderful time here.

Just 3 minutes walk away from Yudanaka train and bus station, Yudanaka Seifuso is located conveniently for the traveller using public transport. The owner was kind enough to give me a one-way ride on his car to the entrance of the snow monkey park (25 mins walk away from the park itself)! On a downside, toilets are shared in this Minshuku.

Very accommodating staff who do really look after their visitors. Nice Japanese style room but I can’t get used to sleeping on a futon on the floor!!
One pitfall was the “hot spring” onsen was too hot and hardly any time spent in them. This may be down to Summer period, maybe better in winter.

We were looking for a traditional ryokan experience and we weren't disappointed. This place is run by a lovely family who can't do enough for you. My husband I were lucky in that on the first night of our stay we were the only guests, so we were able to use the onsen together (not the norm in public onsens in Japan). We were even given a lift gift on leaving and some dried apple for our journetyonce we had told them we were going to Osaka.

We had a lovely stay here! The traditional rooms, style of the inn and the location made this place very special. The owners of the ryokan are so sweet and welcoming and they go out of their way to help you! We were given a lift from the station to the hotel (as we arrived after dark) and extra fruits and sweet treats for our room and our onward travels. Do try their Japanese breakfast if you stay here! Very tasty! :)

I can't wait to stay again.

I cannot say enough good things about the Yudanaka Seifuso! I traveled there to see the snow monkeys (even though it's spring!) and to have a mediation get away weekend. It was perfect. The staff are so helpful and nice, and the tranquil onsen is how I started and ended my days, I did not know I had purchased the breakfast included package, but I'm so glad I did. The hot traditional Japanese breakfast in the quiet room for meals was an amazing experience. I was a little afraid I'd have difficulty finding it, but it's barely a block from the train station down a little street. I know I'm gushing, but seriously it was awesome - if you get the chance go! So affordable and the most relaxing mini-vaca I've ever had.

Quaint atmospheric hotel conveniently near the station. Shared toilets but no problems with this luckily as the hotel seemed quiet. Helpful staff for transport to the snow monkey park. Unfortunately we didn’t allow enough time for this visit to the park in spring, and the wild monkeys were just arriving as we had to leave to catch the infrequent bus service- maybe we should have arranged a taxi instead.

My wife and I booked one night at the Yudanaka Seifuso Ryokan and it was lovely. The hotel is very well located few minutes walk from the station. Two indoor onsens and one outdoor one very nice.
We had dinner at a yakitori restaurant close by recommended by the owner.

Old but well maintained. A very short walk from the bus/station. Have some restaurants near the train station and they close at 11pm. It was very kind of the owners of the hotel to offer to send us to the monkey park which otherwise we have to catch a bus. It seems like a family owned and run hotel. Althought language a bit of a barrier, Google Translate helped a bit. They dont have attached bath and toilet is shared but is very clean. You can take your bath at the 3 onsen available which 1 is private and u can lock the door.

This family run Ryokan is only 200m walk from the Yudanaka train station. Even in the snowy conditions we were able to wheel our bag on the snowy road to and from the hotel. The owner greeted us and showed us to our room and he asked us if we were going to the snow monkeys. We said we wanted to go straight away after leaving our bags. As we were leaving he just grabbed his car keys and dropped us off to the front of the park. What a nice surprise. Saved us catching a bus and walking.
We had a private onsen to ourselves. The toilet is a communal one downstairs from our room. Very clean with the usual Japanese toilet seat. Room very spacious on tatami floor but so comfy. If you have difficulty climbing stairs request for a ground floor room. Our deal didn’t come with brekky so we bought our food stuff from the Family Mart near the station and had it in the room.
When we checked out, we got 2 fresh Fuji apples from the area. What a lovely gesture.
Well recommended place to stay for a night or longer.

Myself and my two sons just spent an amazing day and overnight here and from the time we stepped through the door until we left the next morning after our amazingl and delicious traditional Japanese breakfast we were treated like royalty. We’ll never forget lounging in the Onsen with the snow falling on us. A wonderful experience. We even got a free ride up the hill to the snow monkey park saving us the time and cost of taking the bus.

Nice hotel - great location

Awesome staff who make a huge effort to ensure you are well looked after. If you want food from the hotel, ensure to let the staff know well in advance or book the meal whilst booking your room as it can be tricky to accommodate when told last minute. They also have several onsen's in the hotel itself which are really nice. The biggest benefit was the hotel staff who always went the extra mile to make sure you were looked after. Rooms all had heaters too which made a big difference given how cold it was outside. Strongly recommend.

Great for Onsen Getaways and Jigokudani

This ryokan is charming, comfortable, and a 4-5 minute walk from Yudanaka station so it's extremely easy to find. It is also very close to Jigokudani Yaen Koen if you desire to see the famous onsen snow monkeys up close.

I opted for the traditional Japanese style breakfast over the kaiseki style dinner as I was traveling alone and interested in trying out the local izakayas in the evening. The breakfasts were excellent; salmon cooked in a different way every day was accompanied by various locally sourced vegetables (some pickled tsukemono), rice, and miso. Next time I plan on trying out the kaiseki dinner as well.

The ryokan had 3 onsen baths open during the time I visited; a cedar plank one, an intricately tiled one, and then an outdoor rotenburo which was why I really chose Yudanaka Seifuso this trip. This was my first time experiencing a rotenburo and I lucked out with some light snowfall one morning. It was absolutely gorgeous and one of the most relaxing experiences I've had in years. The cedar and tile baths were also excellent and well maintained.

Finally the hospitality of the staff was just amazing. Despite being close to the station they had attempted to pick me up but I had already snuck down a back alley shortcut. When it was time for me to go to Jigokudani I had planned on taking the bus but they insisted on driving me there. When I checked out they sent me off with several Nagano apples which are to die for. I will definitely be back.

It is a cosy family run hotel and very close to the Yudanaka station and nearby restaurants. They offered to take us to the Snow Monkey Park when we check out in the morning and we were lucky to see the monkeys before they leave for the forest.

Great family run Ryokan

We had a great experience at Yudanaka Seifuso. The family were so helpful and the accommodation was very clean and inviting. The onsen was fantastic. There are allocated times for males and females, plus a private onsen you can use with your partner. Very comfy futon mats, I slept so well. We didn't dine at the Ryokan, but I wish we had.

Authentic Japanese Roykan in Yudanaka

An authentic family-run roykan. Staff are all very attentive, friendly n helpful. Not a luxury roykan but i loved it for it's truthfulness to tradition. I loved the open onsen. The pte onsen was a great experience for the family especially for my 2 kids who had nvn beem to onsen. The dinner n bfast was fresh n delicious. Do note there's no pte toilet n shower facilities. Another 1st time for our family but we do not feel inconvenienced at all as the toilet is located at every floor n the kids had fun visiting toilet together middle of the night.

Close to the station

Used this ryokan to go to the Monkey Park. We arrived late (2pm) but they gave us a ride to the entrance to the park. We were able to see hundreds of monkeys. Ryokan has 4 baths, 1 is chartable. Would use it again.

Great stay!

We had a nice clean and large room. The staff were very considerate and actually provided an indoor garage to park or motorcycles! The two onsen baths were lovely to partake of and the breakfast was substantial. Lots of places to choose from for dining as well.

This hotel is a true ryokan (Japanese traditional hotel), the room is tatami mat room and only have traditional Japanese futon bedding. Also this hotel do not have lift, so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs. This hotel is accessible if you self-drive, there are free parking & wifi. I would recommend for those who want to try a true japanese traditional stay. The hotspring is excellent and there is a private hotspring where you can lock and use for yourself. There are 4 excellent dinning place within 5 mins walking. I dined at the restaurant behind the Shrine.

very traditional ryokan run by a nice old couple

The hotel was really good for it's price. The only concern was that the baths were too hot to get in. I didn't consult the owners so maybe there was a way to cool it down. We were the only ones staying that evening and we had the baths to ourselves. There are three different baths. Hinoki buro is the smallest and can fit only two people. But it would be too small for two strangers. The room was comfy. The location is great. Very close to Shibu Onsen and Jigokudani Monkey Park. We didn't eat there.

It was a really nice place, the staff was super friendly we added the breakfast on arrival which was authentic and very good:) (but not for everyone, some Europeans might like a western breakfast more). The best were the Onsen, it was a pleasure using them especially after a long trip:) we would recommend this place to everyone:)

A delightful ryokan for a winter stay

I've had some pleasant experiences at ryokan, but this one was just off the charts. The hosts are so helpful and kind, and did everything they could to make us feel at home. The old man was always there in the morning to help us out the door (he helped my daughter put her boots on) and all the staff always made sure that we knew where we were going and how to get there. The food there is also top notch; I recommend getting at least one dinner and one breakfast for the Japanese experience. The onsen baths are nice; pretty hot as expected since it is genuine hot spring water. It is very close to Yudanaka Station and a great place stay for the Snow Monkeys and other activities in the Nagano area. They gave us local apples and apple preserves on the way out, which is a perfect anecdote on how delightful this place is.

Nice family owned ryokan

This ryokan is family owned and within 5 minutes walking distance from the Yudanaka station. We arrived late in the evening and stayed one night only so as to make a day trip to see the snow monkeys the next day. The rooms are small, clean and well kept. The toilets are common but were very clean. Bathing has to be done in the common hot spring baths. These hot spring baths were small and there were different baths for males and females. We did not take dinner in the ryokan but ate in a modern cafe just opposite the train station which has both Japanese and Western food options. The elderly ryokan owner and his staff speak limited English but that was not an issue. They were very friendly and helpful and in fact the owner gave us a ride to the snow monkey park the next morning in his small car. He was indeed kind and helpful. The lack of a toilet in the room can be somewhat inconvenient but again was not a big deal. They serve a Japanese breakfast in the morning in the small dining area on the ground floor. The breakfast was simple but adequate. On the whole, this place is a good and affordable place to bunk in for a trip to the snow monkey park.

We loved our stay here. Expectations set quite high based on other reviews but we weren't disappointed! Staff were so friendly and generous - we got a lift to the snow monkey park, like it was an automatic part of the service (we didn't ask for it!) And got given some heat pads to put in our clothes (kept us warm all day!).

Highly recommend the breakfast. It was 1000 yen per person but so worth it, and they also happily made it vegetarian for me which was a real bonus.

When I said I was making a trip to Obuse they made sure I left with a map. All in all we felt very well looked after. The rotemburo is also lovely. And it's super close to Yudanaka station, very handy location.

Great Ryokan experience

For 2 foreigners that spoke no Japanese, we couldn't have found a more welcoming Ryokan. We arrived on an early train about 5 hours early for check in, planning to just drop off our backpacks and find our way to the snow monkey park. We hadn't expected so much snow so we thought we'd have to buy/rent some boots when a hotel staff arrived in a van, brought out a variety of snowboots for us to borrow and drove us to the base of the park! Saved us our sneakers, figuring out the bus route and about $8 for the bus fare. You'd also be surprised how many people were slipping and complaining in sneakers along the snow monkey park trail. Guess they picked the wrong place to stay!

Overall the Ryokan had a very warm welcoming feeling. The private hot spring was exactly what we wanted. No problems with tattoos although we didn't try to use the public ones or ask if it was acceptable. The room was rustic with tatami floors, futons and an amazing heated table.

For cost, comfort and exceptional hospitality I would highly recommend this Ryokan.

Traditional accommodation with amazing staff

This place is an easy walk from Yudanaka station. The private and shared onsen are great, rooms are clean and tidy, but what really makes it special - just as others have said - is the staff. We don't speak Japanese but they went out of their way to help us. Fantastic place, would highly recommend.

Excellent Location to see the Snow Monkey

Seifuso is an excellent place to stay to see the Snow Monkey. The ryokan is near to Yudanaka Station and we had the room option without meals. They also serve dinner and from what we can see, the food looks delicious. If we were to stay there again, we will definitely take the meal option. It is also near to GOEN which serves great meals at affordable places. We had dinner and lunch there. Highly recommended if you stay at Seifuso.

The staff were friendly and provided great service. They drove us to the Snow Monkey Park and even loan us their snow boots for our visit of the Snow Monkey. Staff greeted us whenever they see us. The room is equipped with everything we need. Also must try their onsens.

Strongly recommended if you are visiting the Snow Monkey.

Great Authentic Experience

This ryokan was very comfortable and located perfectly for a stay to visit the snow monkeys. I have never stayed in a traditional Japanese inn(ryokan) before and was a bit apprehensive about following protocol. We were greeted warmly and had the layout explained to us. We were shown to our room and it was very comfortable. We found everything we would need in our room from toiletries to kimonos to hot water for tea. It was very welcoming. I had chosen this ryokan because it has a private onsen that is available for guests. If not in use, you simply go in and lock the door. It was perfect after a day of train travel from Kobe. Breakfast was served at the time we requested and was very good. After breakfast, we were given instructions on how to get to the snow monkey park. We were also given fresh Nagano apples and small heater packets just in case the cold was too much. Boots were also available for the unprepared. This was a great experience and I highly recommend this ryokan if you are looking for an authentic experience in a peaceful place.
