Always loved staying at Surfbreak very welcoming staff and accommodating! Especially the property manager Julie who is very understanding and welcoming! Parking is good and free, the breakfast at SC cafe is chefs kiss and location of this place is good! It’s nearby me and my partners favourite places such as the beach which is at least less than 5 mins away and our favourite local burrito place. Will definitely come back. Keep it up surfbreak!

I was really disappointed with my stay at Surfbreak Hotel. When I first arrived, I had trouble even getting into my room, which set a frustrating tone for the trip. Once I finally got inside, the floor was sandy, like it hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guest. The sink had a very strong, unpleasant odor whenever I turned on the hot water, which made it basically unusable. On top of that, I found hair in both the shower and the bed when I arrived, which was honestly the biggest red flag.
For the price and the location, I expected much better. The issues felt like basic cleanliness and maintenance problems that should have been addressed before anyone checked in. I really hope the hotel improves, but based on this experience, I wouldn’t stay again.

We had out of town guests and needed a one night stay for them and we pleased that they had a one night option. Check in was easy and the desk person was lovely and accommodating. Our guest said they really enjoyed the room and that the bed was very comfortable. Will definitely book again.

We arrived around 630 with no means of getting into our room while standing in the rain. It took 30 minutes to get in touch with anyone to give us access. It was not very clean or nice inside, stains on wall, warped floor, very rough used towels. Woken up throughout the night to noise guests and a 2am text from hotel asking guest to be respectful. Will not stay there agan!!!

The staff was lovely and having an ocean view was nice. It is by the highway so if you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs as they don't have them. San Clemente is a cute little town and the beach/pier area is great.

This not a hotel, they added cheap modern-looking finishes to a motel and rebranded. The room was missing requested crib so our baby had to sleep in bed with us. The mattress was terrible - very soft, clearly not supported underneath so it slouched to the center and felt dangerous with baby. The flooring was splintering at the seams. It was somehow so hot even though cold and rainy outside that I had to run AC all night. The room advertised an “ocean view” - it was really a “highway view” with a sliver of ocean behind. The room was cheap, so you get what you pay for.

Their elevator was broken and we didn’t know. There was no sign outside saying it was broken. We got in it and got so scared. It was shaken violently and got stuck for a while in there. We chose not to stay the second day and left early.

I crashed here for three nights in October during a south swell chase, and while it's no glossy Avenida Del Mar reboot, it's got heart, history, and enough beach access to keep the stoke alive. we arrive , open door get a hard MUSKY smell , we enter as a family inside and get a strong URINE smell, after 1 hr we text the virtual Front desk get a text back “ whats your name” we then get ghosted so we call and where told “ no house keeping services available, if you leave no guarantee for a refund” we left after 2hrs in this room. The floors where dirty our feet where dirty just from walking around. During the very short stay we inspected the toilet 🚽 and it woud NOT flush due to being already clogged . We cant make this up. Cant sleep , cant use restroom, cant get a refund . STAY AWAY .

In the room we had, there was flooring that had been “patched” but it was very weak and scary to walk around. As if we would fall through to the downstairs. Terrible parking. The A.c. worked but not the entire time, it struggled to keep the room cool. The plus, was checking in was super easy, the bed was incredibly comfortable and we were in a very nice quiet area.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Surfbreak Hotel! Julie at the reception was so sweet and welcoming — she answered all my questions and made the check-in process easy. The room was very clean and nicely decorated, with cute little plants here and there, and the Roku TV made it feel even cozier. I also loved the thoughtful touches like the lotion and makeup remover provided. The shower had great water pressure, and the bed was super comfortable. Overall, the hotel and service exceeded my expectations. It’s in a great location — close to shops, coffee spots, restaurants, and just a four-minute drive to the beach!

My husband and I stayed at the Surbreak about 4 years ago and thought it was so cute and in a great location. I'm disappointed to say that returning this time, we found it's gone down hill. Overall, the room felt a bit dingy and neglected: bits of dust and hair in the corners, as well as a false eyelash on the floor, no hand towels, and the sink smelled like sewer. In the middle of the night we awoke to a loud bang and found the shower curtain had completely fallen down. The cleaning and property care could use some attention.

Drawers were very dusty.. we hung up some clothes and left the rest in our luggage bag. Bed was very uncomfortable... sagged towards the middle. WIFI was horrible. Noise from freeway was too much. Havinh noone at the front desk most of the time was very impersonal and the nymber they give you to call... no one answers.

So where to start. First night no parking on property was available. Had to park on the street and walk to the room because someone had double parked. Was directed by the staff to park a mile away in public parking. I ended up parking on the street 2 blocks away. Rooms were clean with the exception of the carpets. They would stick to socks and feet and leave a black residue. We had to by slippers just for the room. Staff is friendly and the view is better than advertised even with the freeway. Last thing of note. The door was uneven on the hinges and left a giant gap where it sounded like the people outside were in our room. Very noisy place and people smoke on the non smoking floor. Most likely will not visit again.

The overall value for what it was plus the proximity to the freeway and beach was excellent. Only major issue was the street noise that can be heard even with the windows closed; it kept me up at night.

I have stayed here twice now and love it every time. The rooms are updated & have new appliances and furniture. Great location right across from Del Mar and El Camino Real with shopping and dining. Modern beach feel and decor, super comfortable, and AFFORDABLE. Only complaint I had with my most recent stay is that the TV in our room was very laggy and slow. Other than that everything was perfect

Labor Day Weekend Stay
My stay at the Surfbreak Hotel was great. The room was air conditioned, very clean and everything worked as it should have. The bed and bedding was extremely comfortable. The staff was extremely nice and always available if needed. It is located close to a lot of shops and places to eat and just minutes from the pier and the beach. I was on the third floor and could see the ocean from the front balconies of the hotel. All in all I had a great experience at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone else that asks me where to stay in southern California near the beach.

It was a pretty nice stay, quiet a laid back, it’s small so not a lot of people and the owners were very adamant on helping in any way they could. Giving ideas for places to go, places for food, and even offering surf boards you can rent.

I like the hotel, but the problem i had was parking. If the parking spaces are full you will be out of luck. You will have to find parking somewhere else and risk a chance your car might get tow.

Code room entry concept reasonable. No office staff was available when we arrived for 3:00 PM check in as promised in e-mail we received that morning. No code was provided prior to check in. When we called number provided we were told number did not exist anymore. text inquiry for code response answer was a code that did not work. Second code request gave us a code that worked. We got into the room at 10:00 PM after attending a wedding which required me to change into my tux in the parking structure because we could not get into our room in a timely manner. Very poor office staff management.

There is no hotel staff or reception. Only people there are housekeeping staff who did not clean my room even when requested during a multi day stay. The locks to the rooms do not work, and take several attempts to open. Exposed plumbing in bathrooms, dirty halls, rowdy crowd. Towel rack missing from wall. Since hotel has no staff or attendents you must upload your drivers license to a third party website to check in. No privacy tags for doors. Sheets smell like bleach. Rowdy surfer crowd that stays up and drinks in shared hallways. Do not stay here. Absolutely not worth the nearly $200 a night cost, a simple motel will be quieter and better attended. This is a ghost hotel (no staff) operated by a parent company Excelsior Stays who you will have to be in contact with during your visit to open your room door every time. Avoid.

A little different from your normal hotel but I liked it. Very clean which is a plus, new and modern. We arrived late when the lobby was closed. I checked in via text message and they sent me the info to access the room. Surrounding are is very nice too.
