We had an ocean view room, the weather was very nice, we were able to go to the pier and walk at the beach.
The staff was very friendly. The room was very clean and a good size for more than 4 people, and it was only my husband and myself.

Due to the construction, we had no air conditioning, and our room was 80 degrees overnight and no functioning window to open. Also, pool, exercise room and breakfast area were all closed. They did move us the second night, but in my opinion the rates should have been discounted for the inconveniences.

Our stay at this hotel I can put in one word DEVINE! Not only was the view spectacular (ocean view or golf course view) but the rooms were recently renovated so they were modern and very clean. Our room had an extra living room space we didn’t expect and with two munchkins me and my husband were able to have our own space as well. Although some of the Usual amenities were not available due to the renovations, the staff were very accommodating and we did have our complementary breakfast and waters. We all slept so good and Are definitely going to be booking again in the future. Would definitely recommend this hotel. During and after renovations.

The hotel is under construction and no one informed us before hand. When we arrived it took an hour to get our room. When we arrived there was a paper informing us that for 2 days of our stay there will be no water from 10am-3pm. Considering we were there for a wedding and we couldn’t get ready. We waited over an hour for someone to also check us in. The gentlemen there said he didn’t know how. We had to wait for the night manager. Once he arrived they still struggled and had to “unlock” the room. We went to bed as we were tired. When we got up tried to use the toilet and it wouldn’t flush. We had to use the restroom in the hall way. I understand they are under construction but you need to inform people before or shut down. How can you expect full price when we have so many restrictions.

Having yo move 3 times do to the remodel that was not on your website. So checking in nothing was said. The noises from construction was terrible, All i here from the staff is sorry about the inconvenience. I was there for 3 weeks and not one competition was brought up. I travel for a living and will not ever stay with your hotel again.

It should have been a nonsmoking room but I don’t know why the sliding door was left open and the people outside were smoking so it smelled gross. It aggravated my daughters asthma and we have been home sick since then.

The room was clean and spacious. The staff was friendly. Their buffet breakfast had a lot to chose from and it was delicious. Also not a far drive from the beach. Request to have a room on the back side a way from the road if noise bothers you, but either way it’s not too bad. I would stay here again.

The breakfast was okay. The first room we got had a damaged t.v. The second room was very close to the elevator. We could hear it closing throughout the night. Our room faced the freeway so it was quite loud. The room facing the other side of the freeway was much quieter.

The hotel is a bit old and requires a bit of renovation. The room itself was in a good condition, clean and what was surprising - it had 2 small rooms with 2 TVs in it, kids loved it!

At the same time, I was charged $22 for a parking place which I didn't expect as the advertising said the parking is included.

Really enjoyed our stay here for the wedding that was at the neighboring venue. The breakfast was amazing, the rooms were big and clean. The only downside was our floor smelled like cigarette smoke so aggressively that me and my daughter had runny noses and were sneezing thee entire time we were in our room, but it would clear up when we left the hotel. Everyone who came to our floor commented on it and it’s a non-smoking floor so we have no idea where it was coming from. But overall, we really enjoyed our stay!

We stayed at Hampton Inn & Suites San Clemente for one night.
The room was described as having an ocean view — technically you can see the ocean, but most of the view is toward the freeway.
The windows were quite dirty, which took away from what could have been a really nice experience.
Overall, the hotel is comfortable and the staff was friendly, but it would be great if they improved the window cleaning and provided a more realistic description of the view.

I called the front desk on and off because I was going to be arriving past midnight and no answer. I was traveling and had to cancel an appointment just to make it in time before midnight hours away from this hotel.

When I showed up, I called the front desk and heard the phone ring. Obviously the staff don’t bother to answer the phone, and the person at night said he has no idea why no one bothered to answer.

Rooms smell musky, parapets looks and smell old and dirty, and you can find stains in every inch of the room. This is by far the worst Hampton Inn I’ve ever stayed in. First and last time I stay at this hotel.

Horrible experience. Scammed all around.

Upon arriving, we noticed the carpet was wet throughout the room.. soon we realized it was coming from the room above - rapidly dripping from the ceiling and soaking the carpet. We immediately notified the front desk and they, after some time, reluctantly offered a refund, stating that no other rooms were available. We accepted that offer but wanted to be clear we’d be refunded. The woman at the front desk assured me it’d be taken care of, but was extra challenging because the manger was not available and because of the fact that we had booked through Hotels.com. Long story short, Hotels.com and this hotel are pointing the finger at each other and I STILL HAVE YET TO BE REIMBURSED!!! Almost a month later. I will never book through Hotels.com again, nor stay at this trash hotel.

We booked a king suite for one night for $320. At check-in they told us that the air conditioning in the room is broken. It was in the mid-80’s during the day. There was no other room available. When we got to the room they had set up two fans and instead of a king suite, we were put in a handicap accessible room with two double beds. While I was showering I found out the shampoo and conditioner dispensers were empty. My wife noticed the outlet by the bed didn’t work. Our room stayed at a consistent 80 degrees through the whole night. We ended up opening the balcony door for more airflow, which cooled the room down to 79 degrees by the next morning. However, our room faced the highway so we had the sound of traffic all night. The hotel comped our $22/night parking fee and told us Expedia could get us a 40% refund. Expedia gave us a 15% credit (only redeemable through Expedia, no cash value) and said the hotel refused to do any other refund since we booked a non-refundable room. All-around bad experience and not the level of service I expect from a Hilton-owned brand.

A wedding ring was left in the room...don't get me started. The staff did a wonderful job finding and sending it to us. Beyond that though, it was difficult. A bit of a surprise was a $22/night charge to park. Mind you, no security provided, regular parking lot, stalls too tight to get in half the time. Then there was non-functioning TV, the empty shampoo containers, empty Kleenex container, lobby bathroom taped off, and 35 minutes to check-in as the place was understaffed. Glad to get the ring back. Won't be returning.

This is a very average hotel. Our room was nice and spacious because we had a suite, but overall the whole hotel is very outdated and needs remodeled badly! The breakfast is nothing special. The second day that we were there, they had no milk or juice. I'm not sure how you offer a breakfast and run out of those items. The pool is extremely small and it wasn't clean. We tried to get in it and then got out because it was so dirty. If you just want an average stay, then this will be fine for you. We expected more!

Not up to Hampton standard. Only one very slow elevator. Some rooms did not have air conditioners that worked.
Was not able to check in until 3:35. I had requested an early check in months ago. Called before arriving and they put me on a waiting list. We went early but was told to come back at 3:00. Long line of people checking in, all had issues of one sort or another. The person at the front desk told us when we checked out that only one computer was working.
Family was in from other states for family wedding. That was a recommendation by the venue, which I will give them an update.
Thought it was way overpriced.
Breakfast was the only thing I can say was okay,

THIS HOTEL IS TRASH!!! Checked in and no air conditioning. I booked with Expedia, and because this hotel is looking to book out every possible room to make money, they booked out rooms with no air conditioning. Not acceptable to rent out rooms with NO RUNNING A/C in the middle of JULY! Also, the day staff was extremely rude, asked for a late check out and was told I can stay an extra ten minutes, this after the fact that they are well aware of the no A/C issue that they made my family deal with. Multiple guests also complained about this. Also, no towels at the pool, they didn't refill their coffee at the front, there were socks and food behind the bed and in the drawers. The place is so run down too, elevator takes forever, I was surprised that was working. Bugs in the room, bed bugs, dirty stained sheets. DON'T STAY HERE TOTALLY GROSS and THE STAFF IS SO DISRESPECTFUL. They don't seem to know that the paying patrons are paying their salaries.

Booked three rooms for two nights for a wedding at golf course adjacent to property. Best parts of the stay were the large-ish size of the rooms, the gym used by the guys in our group and the daily breakfast included in price.

Worst parts of the stay was consistent with many of the reviews that I didn’t read until after booking—mostly related to the upkeep and maintenance of the property. Laundry room not working also. Canceled one room because the air conditioner didn’t work. In SoCal in the middle of the summer. Ugh. The desk person said nothing she could do. I told her not acceptable and what other rooms were available with working air con. She said nothing. I said I just checked on Expedia and there were available rooms. She said not in your room class. I said that’s not my problem when you are not providing me with a room as advertised (with air con) for which I paid. Asked for a manager; staff person replied won’t be in until tomorrow morning.

Fortunately the folks in my group had gone upstairs to the two rooms with working a/c and they said the rooms are big enough for us to fit four to a room. So we canceled the third room without a charge to me. Had to be clear about that and got a receipt. Bummer was sleeping on a wiry sofa bed for two nights…but at least there was a/c!

The parking charge added almost $100 for two cars for two days—the property is not is the middle of town but is bounded by a major road and a golf course. Kinda silly charging parking.

I didn’t like that we paid nearly $900 for 3 nights at this hotel and when we checked in we were informed that we had to pay $22 per day for parking and $50 for “incidentals”! ( whatever that was!

Also, when we checked in, there was a wedding party of about 20 people in line and only ONE person was working at the desk! Check-in took forever!

The last complaint was that our room was overlooked for cleaning after the first night and we had to demand that they do it!

The breakfast was good but after two days of beaching. I was pretty displeased that the laundry was out of order. Lastly I booked a balcony room and the balcony I received was terrible!! Being close to the state beach is nice. That is about the only good thing about this property. We definitely over paid for our 3 night stay here at a 1.5 star hotel. $22 a day to park on top of the $280 a night stay is ridiculous. There was old granola bars that were half eaten in the closet. 2 shower towels and crumbs in the sheets of the pullout bed. If you stay here, I suggest bringing your own blankets and linens. Not the cleanest hotel and our room key stopped working 3 times over the course of our stay. Extremely inconvenient.

We were offered another room the next day, after we moved all of our stuff in. The man at the counter was as so helpful, but the management did not fix the problem. The ice machine was broken on our floor and the tv did not work.

The company has no transparency whatsoever. Reservation was made in early May, but I received no communication from the property.
When I showed up to check-in, I was told by the the desk clerk that there was “a problem with my room,” when I asked what the problem was, she then said, “there is no AC in the room.” When I asked for a different room, she then said, “there were 4 rooms left 2?we’re taken and the remaining 2 has no AC.” Why wasn’t that communicated to me earlier, I asked? She initially offered to cancel the reservation and assist with the refund, but I told her to wait while I make a reservation with a different hotel I then ask to cancel the reservation and to process my refund, to which she replied, “I can cancel it, but you have to call Expedia for your refund.” (This after she offered to assist with my refund) I then asked for a receipt or something to signify that the reservation was cancelled and she said they don’t do that only after my husband told her that they (the hote) was horrible and proceeded to start a Yelp review did she printed a cancellation receipt

Unfortunately, when we arrived after 11 p.m. from the airport, the person in front of us at the counter was informed, along with us, that we would not have rooms with air conditioning. We were booked for 5 days, and that was concerning, though and since we paid through Expedia, the hotel told us the only thing they could do at that moment was to comp us the parking fee of $20. We had a fan in the room. Next day, we inquired about getting another room and were told that it would have to be a downgrade, which we really couldn't do with 3 adults in the room, so we contacted Expedia and requested to shorten our stay to 3 days, which was accomplished by standing at the desk to facilitate the communication between Expedia Rep and the hotel. Expedia refunded the last 2 days and the hotel comped the second two days of parking. There were issues with the pull out sofa, which we decided we could not use - the sheets were dirty and the mattress was not good. Otherwise, the room was clean, the staff cleaned daily and the breakfast good. When we looked online, we discovered that there have been 2 rooms for up to a year without air conditioning based on other reviews and we were the unlucky folks who go to the hotel too late at night a drew one of the rooms. The last night we were there, the temp in the room was 79 degrees. If they could just fix those rooms, I think the overall stay would be fine.

Broken thermostat in two hotel rooms and manager told us not to adjust it, because it’s broken. Front desk staff did not answer the phone when we called 4x, so we took the elevator to the front desk to ask how to fix the temp (stuck at 79 degrees). On second day of our stay, the large pump style body wash and conditioner bottles on the shower wall ran out and were left empty although we asked for staff to refill. The gate to the pool was impossible to open with card key. Another guest let us in. They were very tall and able to reach over the gate to open from the inside.

The room was in very bad shape. Most importantly they knowingly put us in a room with a broken air conditioner. The room also had no windows that could be opened. The oustide temperature was 58 degrees, while it was 80 degrees in our room. We had to switch rooms with my small children at 1am in the morning. This was a very unsafe and disappointing situation for my family. I would like a full refund on all money spent for this reservation.

I booked and specific (ocean View room) got a golf course and golf balls hitting the balcony and glass door , also said no hidden fees when I booked it and got there having to pay an additional $72 and the lady checking me in and the other lady checking me out didn't care at all wouldn't let me show them what I was talking about, just dismissed me. The beds are like sleeping on a brick, so we didn't get any sleep, then there's the carpet it turned all our feet black. The free breakfast was very nice, and the dining room was clean.

Disappointing experience at Hampton Inn San Clemente, No AC working in the room, and after canceling, no incentive was offered, but they had 3 fans upon arrival, they knew their AC was not working, don't know for how long but didn't bother to call me before arriving and making a decision. Frustrating to find no alternative room available after long distance and hours of driving. The hotel franchise needs to improve guest services for this situations.

Our room was a nice room at the end of the hall. We had a great, quiet view on the balcony overlooking the golf course. A little outdated but they’re beginning to update at the end of May they say. Comfy beds. Free breakfast was not great, premade omelet was a bit sponge like in consistency, oatmeal a bit watery. Coffee ok, toast & muffins are good. Overall a good place. Looking forward to their next phase of updates and refurbishing.

According to the staff when checking in, there was a power outage the night before causing issues with rooms being ready. The property is fine nothing too fancy or too rundown. One of the rooms we got had a broken safety lock that

Black mold in the shower, I told the front desk about the black mold the morning of May 10,2025 , the lady told me they would take care of the mold, they told me there wasn’t another room available, when we returned back to the room in the evening of May 10, 2025 there was a strong smell of maybe cleaning fluid and paint ? The smell was so strong it made me sick ( asthma ) .

Woiuld not allow early checkin
Initial room TV not working. No air flow. AC not working. Windows do not open. No ventilation.
They were kind enough to give us a new room for the last night. They really should hab=ve offered us a partial refund.

I always go to the Hamptons in San Clemente, but was disappointed in the breakfast. It was a little messy and everything wasn’t full. You have to ask them to refill food. Also they don’t have decaf coffee anymore or nonfat milk.

Smelly, stinky hotel

The checking in qas easy, guy qas friendly. But the room was horrible. Elevator smelled like smoke, hall ways smell like dirty carpet, room was stinky like dirty socks and the bed smelll like peee, shets were clean, but mattress smell like pee so bad. Horrible experience.

The person at the front desk kept disappearing in the back, leaving me waiting. Not sure what was going on there.
The hot tub was broken. One of the two TVs in our room didn't work. The TVs are old school. You can't stream from your computer. All they had was regular TV. They charged $20 per car for parking. WHY? Isn't the parking lot put there so you can stay at their hotel? Make sure you check to see if parking is included when looking for the best price.

The hotel is centrally located in San Clemente, but that's about it. Very noisy from the highway traffic, the rooms are very dated and need gutting. It's expensive for what you get and the location. The staff was mostly friendly.
