The staff from Holly on reception and bar and restaurant through to the Taps bar and breakfast staff were all excellent and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
The place was in good condition and had attractive bar and restaurant areas, as well as rooms and waiting areas.
You have to park across the road but it’s not expensive.
I’d recommend the Taps bar on a Monday, if you are a cask ale drinker £3 per pint!

The room was very nice, clean and comfortable. Staff were all fabulous, from check in to restaurant and bar. The lady waiting on breakfast was especially great.
The challenges were that the room was rather hot, and given the location on the main road, opening the window meant it was noisy.
Noise was the main issue - from doors opening, floors creaking and especially from the person in the next room who had their tv on extremely loud until past 2am.

Lovely hotel. Evening meal and breakfast is superb. Bed was comfy. Restaurant was separate from the bar area although you could eat there if you chose. Numerous screens for watching sport.
If i was to be critical - a small coffee table and chair would have been good and the shower, hot and plenty of water, flooded a bit quick.

We stayed at this wonderful hotel as we were attending the horse racing at haydock race course. The room was beautiful , the bed was divine and I slept so comfortably! There was a fan which was needed as the weather was hot (a shark fan - which is a real luxury touch) also tea and coffee making facilities, water, hairdryer, dressing table with accessible plugs!
It was my husband's 40th and we had just got married and Poppy brought a bottle of fizz to our room which was such a lovely suprise and we were so incredibly impressed! Unfortunately we didn't have time to eat in the restaurant but it smelt delicious and the pricing seemed very reasonable. We enjoyed a few drinks before leaving for the racing and the 3 girls on the bar (sorry ladies I didn't ask your names!) were so friendly and made drink recommendations based on my taste preference, they were very professional.
Overall a fantastic experience from start to finish ,I will certainly be returning to this hotel and highly recommend! Thank you to all the staff , you truly made our stay incredible. Forever grateful.

The hotel is nicely decorated and has comfortable lounge and garden area. Unfortunately our room (10) was directly above a very loud and noisy bar which played loud music until after 11:15. It was incredibly hot with only one window that would open. We hardly slept a wink. The room was not fit for purpose and it is utterly disgusting to charge the high prices that were charged. Avoid.

Was a warm day so our room was very warm over night, lorry’s thundering through the village were a bit of an issue when the window was open. We were upgraded to a fantastic room.It was huge!! v comfortable clean. Nice touches. Staff at the restaurant/bar were v approachable... nothing was too much trouble with rapid service for drinks/food even at busy times. Breakfast was a good selection and very tasty.

Expensive for what it is & road noise in the room at the front very bad. Its located on a main road, rooms at rhe front are plagued by traffic noise all night long in addition to rhe church bells every hour. Hard working staff on arrival & during the evening. Breakfast service was slow. I stay away alot & while it was nice overall (if you ignore the noise) too much for me as they are (nice) rooms above a pub style 'hotel'

It was incredibly noisy until nearly 11.30 p.m. at night, then the transition from those drinking to their rooms, meant loud phone calls, and snoring, heard by all through the thin walls. Ok if you are on a leisure trip, terrible for those of us here for work with an early rise.

The pub itself was cute but was noisy until about midnight as we were directly above. The staff were really friendly and kindly showed us to our room. The shower was good, the room was clean and the bed was comfy, but there was damage to the walls that had been filled but not finished. Also the bell ringing started about 9am Sunday morn so no need for an alarm.

Very nice, well furnished property with a nice vibe. The pub itself was lovely and we had dinner which was delicious! Live music on friday night from local artist which was a nice touch. Finished by 9pm so wouldnt disturb sleeping! Unfortunately some people decided to go upstairs to their room at 1am and made a huge noise for a good half an hour which did spoil things a bit. Also you can hear the outside road but its not too bad! One recommendation would be to get better sound proofing on the rooms. The rooms themselves though were lovely and comfortable! Just need more sound proofing thats all! Overall a great stay just a shame the nights sleep was disturbed quite badly. We would come back but maybe not on a friday night!

Perfect location at the outskirts of Liverpool for a weekend break. The staff were top notch , very professional and friendly. The room was comfortable, with coffee / tea facilities, and a good power shower. Breakfast had both continental and à la carte cooked breakfast! We enjoyed an excellent omelet and salmon poach egg bagel. Highly recommended this hotel.

Didn’t find the hotel staff friendly at all ,no one to man the reception desk checking in or checking out ,we came home late to find the door locked and couldn’t get in ,rang the front door bell but no answer was feeling very vulnerable and worried at this time ,until I shouted through the letterbox and a man came to open the door ,we think you could do with better lighting in the rooms and a full length mirror would be good ,just another thing the church bells chime all the time ,was nice to start with but became annoying when you wher trying to rest

Could have done with some disposable plastic cups in the bathroom for use after brushing teeth etc.

The rooms use 'old fashioned' keys which I thought was nice but they are a security risk in my opinion because it has the hotel address and room number on the tag so if you lose the key, anyone who finds it could just get into your room. Anonymous card keys are much more secure and you can slip them into your wallet/purse.

The first three hours in the car park are free but after that it is pay by machine, phone or app. The machine was out of service and as I had a foreign phone number I never got the app working, not could I just pay by phone for some reason. Excellent hotel above a pub, only draw back is the pub across the street, and people lingering after closing that were very noisy. Would love to go back wen it it is not a heat wave, as room was very hot. I suggest manamenet supply fans during hot spells.

I’ve found this a hard one to review. You first arrive in to the hotel and the reception is welcoming and the restaurant/ bar looks great. First look into the room also very good. Bed comfortable and fairly spacious. Nice meal in the restaurant with great service.
Now the not so good parts. To put it simply you will struggle to sleep. The road noise is loud even with the window shut. It’s also constant throughout the night and morning. I basically slept for 2 hours max. You will hear noise from the bar below until 11pm / midnight. You can literally hear every word of the table below you.
I have to leave a bad review because of this as the whole point of staying here was to sleep well as part of a longer trip.
