The staff were corteous, but as others have commented the hotel is very run down and tired, however for £60 bed and breakfast you can't expect the Ritz. There were signss of improvement as they had a decorated in painting the stairs well while I was there.

Reception staff were amazing. We were late down for breakfast and a breakfast was kept back for us to eat later. Comfy bed and the room had been refurbished. Parts of the hotel were a little tired and the lift could do with a spruce up, particularly the ashtray which I've not seen in a lift before. Overall great customer service and a good nights sleep.

The room was extremely dirty with dust everywhere. The room I was given did not have basic amenities, such as toilet paper, soap, and a dustbin. The most disturbing of all was the water that was not flowing. The door key was not working, so they had to use the master key to allow me in anytime I came out. I did not get any value for my stay.

Arrived a little late, around 21:00. Waited a good 5 minuted before anyone arrived to check me in.

Hotel was a bit dated, i could see that they were understaffed. People in the bar waiting a while to be served, lots of dirty plates and glasses laying around. I spotted a glass on the side with some beer left when i came back from dinner. The same glass was still there in the morning when i checked out.

Staff unhelpful from booking in until we left. Room was dusty and only one plug socket. View of the delivery area wasn't very interesting and the yard is very unkept. We were not told where the breakfast area was or where the food was served from. The bar was left unattended so I went to the pub across the road. All the staff seemed to be interested in was where they were going and what time they got in. We have stayed in many hotels over the years and this is by far the worst. We won't be going back.

One of the towels had brown stuff on it. Crack in the ceiling in the left corner where the shower was. "Double bed" was two single beds and room was slightly clean. I'd have gotten stuff changed if we were there more than one night.

Clean and comfortable but disappointing breakfast

This hotel was clean and comfortable enough, but very tired looking. The rooms were spacious.
The breakfast was appalling. The crockery was all dirty - with that sheen that comes from a badly cleaned dishwasher filter being actually visible on every plate, bowl and cup. The cooked part of the breakfast was all cold and congealed. And the staff seemed disinterested.
A most unpleasant experience.

The hotel was very disappointing, it smelt of cigarettes throughout including the rooms. The reception area was shabby. the bar are look like it hadn’t seen a cloth in forever. The mattress had so little spring it felt like I was going to fall out of the bed. All in all not good.

Room was spacious and tidy, there was a visible sign of dust which laid along the carpet next to all the skirting boards and the towels smelt damp. Heating was perfect and he room temperature didn’t keep us awake. Would stay again, but I do personally think it does meet its 3*

On arrival the staff were very helpful . Although there was a wedding the staff were still attentive to other guests . I was a little disappointed that i couldn't be moved to an assessable room but fully understood that they were full and they were unable to move us . There was a piece of carpet that had tape across it ,which didn't look pleasant (this was in the corridor going from reception to lifts ). On a personal levels i did find the wash basin in bathroom a problem ,as you turned the tap on somehow the water would shoot over the top and onto floor making the floor very slippery and a hazard . A comfortable and clean stay with a good breakfast .

The water temperature control for the bath was stiff. Had to get the staff twice to have a look and was even told would have to get maintenance to loo at it. Was not offered a room move or any kind of compensation for the inconvenience. Very stressful when getting ready for my brothers wedding reception

My bed mattress was probably the worst I have slept on in all the years of using hotels! Sadly, being a lower back sufferer, the discomfort was exacerbated meaning little or no sleep.
This apart, we are quite satisfied with the services provided within the hotel and the staff.
We would have liked to dined before the theatre but late service cut into our time schedule. No matter, we will dine tonight.
Not complaining, but we found the bar area rather noisy due to a wedding reception, but we would not deny wedding guests the right to Celebrate.
Our first ever visit to Wigan! Would use this hotel again if ever we came again.

Service was poor except for one gentleman who seemed to be a manager. The rest of the staff demonstrated poor attitudes. The room was very noisy with the fire doors banging loudly well into the night and the lift whirling. Staff on hand had little power to fo anything, including move our room.

Food is ok. But breakfast time only open until 10am. And the lift was breakdown, I have to carry my luggage to upstairs. In the room, has a another for some reason. Don’t feel safe with it. And you can hear the noise from the room next to you.

No staff of bar, waited ages every time. The glad wash area was full of little black flies. The post mix soft drink had zero fizz, this was reported by several people and we were all told it was fine.

Such a shame as it could be a decent hotel if some of the staff were changed.

Stayed here for a wedding in the area. Managed to get the rooms cheap with booking early but wouldnt have wanted to pay much more. It was basic & one of the rooms smelt damp.
There was a wedding there & it was full of noisy kids, woken up in the night by someone running down the corridor carrying on!
Not the hotels fault but gives an indication of the clientel 😣.

The hotel is set right on the edge of the town centre and is fairly easy to find, the hotel offers everything that you need for your stay and Including a huge bed which was comfortable. If I was to be critical I would have to say that the hotel looked a little tired in parts which you can’t help but notice but nothing that would affect your stay.

everythig was great except the state of the kitchen and the breakfast was like rubber and over done the back of the food area was disgusting and i spent the remainer of the day on the toilet! not very happy at all the lady on kitchen duty had no hair net and was switching between over cooking my egg and spraying and wiping down areas in the restuarant there was grease old grease dripping down the tiles the floor was awful and her manners were also not there

I have to praise the staff, as at 10.30pm I had to call the foyer as the adjoining room were very loud. They came up and sorted the issue straight away.
After that I slept well, and breakfast was nice. However, the hotel clearly needs some work done as the corridors and main foyer were not in the best condition

Good for one off, one night only.

The hotel itself is a little dated and while the rooms were clean and everything you’d expect (big nice bed), there were a couple disappointing areas.

1) there was only one electric heater for the whole room which meant even if on, the room and bathroom felt very cold especially in the morning.
2) the shower was fiddly and never really got warm. It lacked power as well.

Everything else was fine and we enjoyed a drink in the bar where there was good service.

Extremely poor that their was only one lady at reception doing checkins and when it was my turn to checkin at 2.30pm was told my room wasn,t ready. Others that followed me were also told the same. They said late checkouts for this reason. Management should have had at least 2-3 people in checkin especially on the day of a big Rugby League game with many people from across uk and Australia arriving to checkin. Average service by management who should have been ready.

Property is in a good location with plenty of parking. Hot shower.

Disliked:

The property is in need of desperate investment as much of it is out dated, damaged and just neglected. Stains all over the room walls, carpets etc....

I stayed in a double room and I expected a double bed not two single beds just pushed together. I kepted falling between the beds, even the sheet they used was not big enough to cover the two connected single beds.

It was unfortunate on our last night at the hotel that we were woken up about 4.30 am by 2 extremely noisy men on our floor who were obviously entertaining some other women in their respective rooms.
We know that other guest were also disturbed by the noise.
The hotel have kindly offered free accommodation when we next visit Wigan, but we do hope Expedia will look into this incident.

Stayed here as we were attending the Christmas party with friends. Not the cleanest and could do with an update on the decor. Was kept awake most of the night due to noise in the room above us continuing to party all night. Complained at 4am and was told that they had a list of complaints for the same room. Was told that they were going to call the police if it carried on. 8am came and the noise was still going on. Checked out without staying for breakfast as we just wanted to go home so cant rate the breakfast. Got a full refund without hesitation. Would not stay again.

No staff in bar area, waited 10 minutes until i saw anyone. Bathroom fan on constantly so difficult to sleep. Decor in public areas was very tired and dated. Shower was very poor. Shower head loose and hanging down at taps. Couldn't shower properly. Weird car park set up where if you dont enter your reg in a tablet on reception and say you are staying for 2 days when you are staying for 1 night, a completely separate company will fine you for parking. All a bit rubbish tatty really, wont be staying again,

Too close to Hospital, ambulance noise all night. Room cold, room menu/drinks list out of date. When hair dryer provided was switched on, it melted in my partners hand. Cleaning staff liked to start early, so no chance of a long lie. Staff friendly though mostly not visible.

Over-stretched staff and ‘tired’ hotel

On the plus side, the staff were friendly but it seemed that, as the hotel wasn’t busy, they were being expected to multi task. This resulted in poor service and, in the case of one member of staff, unprofessional behaviour. During dinner, we witnessed the chef come out of the kitchen and swear at one of the waiting staff in full view of the restaurant.

In terms of food, we waited for nearly an hour for a dinner which was average at best. However, breakfast was good and the buffet had a good selection of food.

With regards the accommodation, several parts of the hotel (including our room) had an “odd” smell. Generally, our room was tired and appeared quite grubby although it obviously had been cleaned. The bed was ok but the duvet and pillows were cheap.

Overall, it was below average but this is probably reflected in the price.

SMOKEY JOES HOTEL!!!

I will not be staying here again!! the receptionist was lovely, but I had too many complaints, the room smelling of smoke, the breakfast staff very rude the hotel needs a complete revamp, the duty manager didn't speak to me about the issues, the poor receptionist was left to face the upset!
