The rooms could use little improvements. The side tables looked like they came from IKEA. Bare walls could use some artwork or photographs. There was a blackout curtain to block the light from the bathroom that was barely hanging. They should just paint that instead. Toiletries in the bathroom were single-use. Pool could use some TLC.
Having said that, the room was nice and clean. Bed was comfortable. Big bathroom with a ton of light. Great view from the room and the bathroom. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great patio on the back for late-night conversations and hangouts.

This hotel was stunning, incredibly beautiful, and everything they offered was very high quality from the morning coffee to the breakfast and evening cocktails. Rooms were perfect, bed was comfortable and I love the hardwood floors, very clean. We’ll be coming back.

The staff was amazing! Very nice property with tons of attention to detail. We stayed in the back of the property and were not bothered by the road noise. We wish we had stayed to visit the nearby organic farm but decided to get going to head to Sea Ranch. Next time!

charming historic building. friendly staff, although he was working solo he was very attentive and took care of all our needs. this place could improve by having in-room tea/coffee service even with a simple hot water boiler. we like that there are no TVs but that might not be for everyone. drawback that is no fault of the hotel is the proximity to the road and the extreme road work ocurring over night. as a result of the overnight jack hammering outside our window we had no sleep.

Was good when you could find them. It just seemed that I couldn't find the staff a couple of times over the weekend. Also, the heater in the room did not work very well and was really old and outdated, the separate heater for the bathroom. Bathroom there was no knob to turn it on or off, the sink in the bathroom backed up extremely easily. Not 100% sure I would stay there again.

Wine country pricing without the real experience, probably wouldn’t do it again.

We booked two nights but left after the first night because of the bed. I travel ~100 days per year and am used to different hotel beds but this one hurt…a lot. It’s been years since I experienced back pain.

My significant other said it best - I feel like I’m on a dorm bed.

The room was clean and the manager offered to switch my room for the second night but I didn’t want to risk it.

Very friendly staff. Elevator doesn't work and we were on 3rd floor and there are very steep stairs. No TV or coffee maker in room, however you do get a nice welcome drink and coffee is available downstairs. Convenient to everything Hopland has to offer. Short walk to a couple tasting rooms and nice restaurants.

The Thatcher is a beautiful property and most of the staff is friendly and helpful. The main drawback for us as folks in their 70's was the lack of an elevator that necessitated a steep climb to the 3rd floor with all our luggage with no allocated staff to help (we did get help from a female staff who was courageous enough to carry a heavy suitcase up all those steps). Our room was very quiet (on the back side) and the bed very comfortable. A single window brought in little light and, while the design was elegant, the furnishings were sparse and did not offer a comfortable space to hang out in. The complimentary morning coffee was good but cafe staff seemed overwhelmed.

The place has a lot of ambiance but at the cost of most amenities. It has no elevator although it has three floors you must walk up every time, and because it is an old building there are a lot more stairs. There is no ice so everything is ambient temperature!The only chair in the room is an old very uncomfortable wooden school chair, and only one per room. The doors don’t come near the floor so you get to hear everything from the hall and the room next to you. The bartender makes a mean drink!

The restaurants in the area were mostly closely due to lack of staffing. The Poppy Cafe at Thatcher was open daily for breakfast and lunch and very accommodating.

The Thatcher bar over the weekend was very noisy, however, the bartender very quickly closed it down at midnight.

I had a short weekend break at the Thatcher Hotel. I highly recommend it - they have thought a lot about design, and the hotel is beautiful in all places - the bar, the cafe, the pool, the room. The photos on the website give a good picture - if those appeal to you, then you will love the hotel. The staff are also friendly and welcoming.

The town of Hopland itself is very small, and the Thatcher is right in the middle of it - there's something nice about being able to go to a bar or restaurant right across the street and then just walk back to the hotel in a minute.

Beautiful renovation! Tons of amenities without the crowds you typically find at larger resorts. Employees were very helpful and personable. Plenty of parking. Walking distance to great local food and drink spots. Although we liked the property so much, it was hard to go anywhere else! We will be back.

We stayed three nights at the Thatcher Hotel. We enjoyed our time there and would go back. That said, the following amenities would have been very welcome: towel racks or pegs; a second wastebasket; a comfy chair with reading light; a luggage rack; drawers to store things; a coffee pot. My bed light needed repair; although I reported it, it was not repaired while I was there. Improved reading lights for the downstairs library would also be a plus, as would be plug-in or USB stations in rooms. All of these items are minor but would improve an otherwise terrific property.

A Hip Gem in Small Town Mendocino

Right in the center of the small strip of business that comprise Hopland, the Thatcher is the perfect home base from which to explore the surrounding wine country and nature (montgomery woods about 40 min north is spectacular). The Thatcher is beautifully restored and exudes the kind of style - Heath bud vases, striking pendant lighting over the bar, etc - you're more likely to find at a boutique hotel in Portland, Oregon.

Beautiful Historical hotel with modern updates

We booked the Thatcher Hotel last minute for a anniversary weekend getaway. The hotel has done an amazing remodel to a historical building. The way they mixed the history of the space with modern update was really beautiful.
Traveling during the pandemic can be tricky, but the staff at the Thatcher really made us feel taken care of and safe. Amanda was at the front desk and was incredibly warm and welcoming. They offered hand sanitizer, extra masks and our own package that included sanitized keys, etc.
You can feel the vintage charm in the rooms but with modern fixtures and updates. One thing to note, there were no TV's in the rooms, so just be prepared for that. I loved that there was no TV. It really encouraged us to enjoy the outdoor fire pits, walk the town and engage with Hopland business area.
Can't say enough how highly I recommend staying here. We will def be back.
