The experience here was without a doubt the nicest I’ve had in Bali.

A hidden tranquil paradise . Unbelievably the entrance was on the main strip, behind ice ice Bali. I could not believe how zen the people n hotel are. So helpful. This is now my second home. Love it so much.

This hotel is a hidden gem. The location is great with easy walking distance to great eateries, market, shopping centres, beach etc.
Staff are magnificent and very friendly and accommodating.
While an older hotel, there are newer rooms and also renovated rooms. All rooms are clean, tidy, well appointed and comfortable. The pool with a swim up bar is perfect and the restaurant offers a good selection of meals.
I highly recommend this hotel for everyone.

The property is deep behind the busy street so it is quiet. The ground with grass, trees, swimming pool, beer bar, and walkway in the rear is as good as the ground of a Mariott resort. However, the room does not have nose wipe tissue and the shower does not have curtain, so shower water falls on top of toilet seat. The breakfast is good, and the beer at the swimming pool bar is inexpensive (local beer 37000 Rupis or $2.20 USD). Shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and beach are at walking distance and unlike America, it is safe for everyone to walk at midnight.

I have stayed at Matahari on 2 prior occasions - this time I upgraded to a Deluxe Queen Pool Room. I was put on Level 2 instead of the ground floor - couldn't even see the pool let alone be a \"Pool Side Room\" the Bed was absolutely terrible - I didn't sleep properly for the who 7 nights - 2 single beds tied together to make a queen size bed only to have a 25cm gap between mattresses... no amount of \"fixing\" made this better. No power points to plug your phone in to charge in the room - charging had to be done at the front door near the kettle. The shower was broken as was the bath.
Really disappointed considering the substantial cost increase from a standard room that I would normally use to a Deluxe suite.

Matahari was a hidden gem amongst the hustle and bustle, beautiful lush eatabliabed gardens. We felt private in our room with balcony and the room itself was spacious, comfortable, modern and felt like home away from home for our stay there. Enjoyes hearing street music when sitting on our balcony but quiet when sleeping. Excellent staff and fabulous pool area.

Very old run down room that need a complete renovation. I wouldn't recommend staying here. The grounds were very nice but room was dirty and falling apart. Plus after parking my bike in the wrong spot the security guard said 'f#%k you' after i questioned him. Wasn't happy with the managers response either who almost justified it with no apology. Not at all worth the money. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Wow what a beautiful resort. It’s a credit to the manager. My room was super clean and daily serviced. All the staff are so friendly and happy. One day it was raining and I had a few bags, this lovely guy helped me and carried them all the way to my room on the 3rd floor. I didn’t know at the time it was the manager of the resort. Breakfast had lots of choices. The grounds are beautiful and maintained daily. Thank you to all the staff for making my holiday enjoyable. When returning to Bali this will be my choice to stay

The property's location was walkable distance to all restaurants and shopping. Pool was clean with swim up bar and had plenty of sundecks. Hidden hotel with beautiful gardens and a pool

Really enjoyed my stay here. The gardens, pool and staff were all amazing. The breakfast is also very good and the rooms are comfortable. Few mosquitoes flying around but that’s everywhere in Indonesia. Tried multiple room types and can say that the deluxe pool view room was the most comfortable for the price. The suites are luxurious but at a higher price. Would definitely recommend this place and would stay again. It’s very quiet and not too social so not ideal for solo travellers, but great for couples and families or those who want some quiet time.

Just spent a week here and enjoyed ourselves so much the pool and gardens are beautiful with a wide open space and lillypad pond and scattered gazebos and seating areas. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Thr breakfast was ordered off a menu with a fruit platter and juice and coffee to be ordered. This hotel has a few different room types to choose from. The more tradional and the more modern. Its very centrally located withon easy reach of shops and restaurants and 5/10 mins walk to the beach. We will be back for sure. Thank you for a wonderful break.

Nice hotel - shame about the management approach!

There's much more to a good hotel than nice rooms and surrounding gardens - we chose this hotel specifically for its pool, bar and restaurant (off photos), as we wanted a nice chill-out day in/by the pool before we flew home.
On arrival, they demanded $50 for pool towels!
The Manager would not discuss this with us, until we gave up and paid!
Then he simply told us \"That is the way it is!\"
This kind of service is not service! And no such fee was advertised!

After checking in we went to the pool - green and slimy! They told us it would be fine the next day - but it wasn't! They knew little about pool chemical maintenance.

Net result - rude management and no pool meant we used another hotel's facilities and spent our remaining 2 million Rupiah (A$200) there instead.

Other guests we met held the same views on the hotel manager!

Had not been back to Bali for 4 years, Matahari Bungalow was always our “go to” hotel. Great price, great location, quiet, friendly and helpful staff. The rooms had been renovated, since our last stay, the updates assisted in the comfort of the hotel, but did not take away from the relaxed charm.

We have stayed here before, however won't be returning. Bedsheets are always stained and showers need to be cleaned better. We brought a baby with us and the pack n play they provided was broken. We got another one and that one is so uncomfortable our baby can't sleep!
Worst of all, someone took money from our room and when we reported it, the staff said we probably lost it. They said check around our room first and not to badmouth the facility.
We tried to check out early (9 days) and get a refund, BUT they wouldn't give us a refund AND they wouldn't let us return our pool towels to get our deposit back!!

The food is mediocre, and gets old quickly.

The pool is the main reason we stay here and there are a couple nice staff.

WE WON'T BE RETURNING TO THIS HOTEL!!!!

An Oasis amongst the chaos

This is an absolute oasis amongst the chaos of Kuta/Legian. The pool & garden area of the hotel are spectacular & welcome relief from the hustle & bustle of Legian St.
The rooms however, do require an update.
The staff are exceptionally helpful & friendly, always a smile on their faces.
We would not hesitate to return again to Matahari Bungalows.

It’s cheap for a reason

It was really cheap but wouldn’t stay again smelt like mould and was so old and rundown. Beds are hard and pillows are like bricks, the air con was broken and bathroom was so gross but for as cheap as it is I shouldnt have expected anything more.

Great place to stay

I've stayed at Matahari Bungalows 3 times now. I love the place, the gardens and pool area are amazing. The staff are friendly and always willing to help. If i have one negative at Matahari Bungalows is the breakfast.. The breakfast is very very basic so I never include breakfast in my package. They definately need to improve in the food area.
