Stayed here during the week and with no events going on. Makes a difference when they have events. Love how it's small, not a huge motel, maybe 11 units. Drive 1 car right in front, I like that. Very clean inside, looks renovated. Like the wood accents, the bathroom was very nice!! It had a waterfall shower, tiled floor and new faucets and such. Room is small, which I like for just me, and I do have a pet that they welcomed. Fridge, freezer, microwave, 1 chair, queen bed, and TV with cable. Also wifi is included. Property has a market, which has alot of what you need, including alcohol if that's needed. Coffee and Danish is complimentary in morning. The staff is super friendly and always there if anything is needed, like towels or whatnot. Location is very close to main st. Walking maybe 10 mins, driving maybe 3 mins. Overall, I liked the motel. And will stay there again when I'm in town. Just a few things to note that could use improvement. 1- The parking is only 1 car, so if u have 2 , probably have to park on street and that always looked packed. 2- the parking driveway is only one way, and there isn't an exit at the end, so you have turn your car around to exit. Kinda complicated for a big car. 3- the landscaping could use some work. 4- I booked 3 months ahead, and overpayed by $60 a night, would've been nice for a price match or discount. Overall, it's nice for the location, 1or2 ppl and the coziness.

The AC wasn’t working, so it was pretty hot. I liked the private patio, but there are some old/outdated parts of the room (and property) that should be updated. Overall I liked it, but the A/C not working was not cool at all (literally). That was really frustrating. I’ve stayed at this property many times and this time was my least satisfying experience. I didn’t sleep well because the room was too warm for my liking. I was pretty uncomfortable both nights. I think it was hotter in the room because it was on the 2nd floor. What made it even more frustrating is that there were no windows that could be opened. I probably won’t ever stay in that room again. -Very disappointing.

My family and I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It was so convenient for where we wanted to go. We loved the room and how it was decorated. The only drawback was there was hardly any space to put our belongs. It did feel a little crowded. The manager Norma was wonderful! She was so friendly and kind. My daughter commented to me about her excellent customer service! She went above and beyond our expectations. She told us places to go see. She was so helpful and always acknowledged us when she saw us and asked about our day. She was a delight.

Cute hotel. Outside needs to be updated but they are updating the rooms first. Very close to downtown Virginia City and within walking distance too. Parking was a challenge at times. I had a single room with one bed and that worked great for me as it was just me. It is right on Main Street so you will hear cars and motorcyclists driving by. And the rooms did not have central air but a stand up air conditioner that vented out the front window and took up space next to the bed. I was just happy to have air conditioning. But I would still give this hotel 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a very unique hotel, making it just a slight bit difficult to give a hard and fast rating.If the scale was 1 to 10, I would give it a nine.But on a scale of 1 to 5, I don't wish to deduct an entire point.So, here goes.The road over the Geiger Summit and into Virginia City is very beautiful and fun to drive.You will achieve an altitude of almost 6,800 feet.The main street in town is 'C' Street, and that is the road that Sugarloaf Mountain Motel is on.The motel has only a few rooms.But it has a fun little office, which doubles as a market with quite a few choices of food and beverage.We arrived late in the evening and were helped by Dottie.She was extremely inviting and informative.The key to our room was exactly that - a key with that old fashioned plastic fob.Classic, for sure.We stayed in Room #8.Our room was very clean and well organized.It has been redecorated and we enjoyed the interesting motif. There was a refrigerator and microwave.The room had more than ample lighting.There was an attractive quilt bedspread which kind of looked like it was handmade.The bathroom had oodles of towels and washcloths, soaps and lotions.We had a wonderful night's sleep.The room was very quiet.I think we had one neighbor, though we really never heard anyone.There was free coffee available in the office beginning at 8:00.The only issue was the room size.A bit small, but not a deal breaker by any means.We are already planning a return visit with more time to explore this fun town.

Perfect roadside hotel walking distance to everything we wanted to see and do in Virginia City. Owners and their team awesome people! Older style facility, but clean, comfy beds, great views, and we will absolutely stay again. Parking a little tight, but doable. The hotel is walking distance to the main drag of shops/restaurants/bars/tourist attractions and the staff was all super nice but it’s a bit run down (hotels in the blankets/sheets and in the wallpaper, old stained carpet…) and the walls are pretty thin, our room
Was right next to the office/store and we could fully hear conversations as well as people talking outside in front of the room… given all that-I thought it a bit pricey for what we got.

We didn’t stay after seeing the place! I don’t know how anyone could rate this place a 9! It was a rundown very old dump in terrible condition and need of repair. The window in our room was broken and filled with silicone calk. The paint was peeled on all the rooms doors and the fence in front was missing several slats. We found another room in town.

Older property in a remote tourist area. Bed was comfortable and the room, although extremely small, was livable but would be claustrophobic if you did anything other than sleep there. No hot water in the shower and required a birdbath in the sink which had hot water. Friendly and helpful staff made sure anything they could take care of they did.

The mattress was very comfortable and outside noises we limited.

\"Above the Law\"

Hotels.com states, for this hotel, \"Exempts fees for service animals\". My partner who is a paraplegic has 2 service dogs, 5 lb and 10 lb, and were trained to detect medical
situations. She has all the necessary state and town paperwork and were offered to hotel employees to verify at check in. During the stay one of the hotel employees informed me that there will be a $25.00 charge for cleaning because of the service animals. I once again stated they were service animals and she says it doesn't matter. My question is why does Hotels.com state \" Service animals exempt from fees\"? When it was time to check out my partner went in and asked why they weren't following Hotels.com rules and her rights. The hotel employee proceeded to tell her that Service animal paperwork is a sham and stereotyped my partner she was doing the same thing although my partner walks with forearm crutches and plastic ankle supports. This employee also stated that she follows Nevada laws not other states laws. How ignorant , Disabled citizens laws are federal. My partner went in the lobby not to argue, but to question and this employee was arguing with her like she was a school child. Hotels.com needs to take this complaint seriously . Disabled people rights are not being followed and hotels like this are going to tarnish the reputation of Hotels.com and other booking agents.

Location was excellent, property was cluttered with what appeared to be old yard sale junk which limited access to our room. The walkway to the room looked like it hasn't seen a broom in weeks. Toilet wouldn't flush, they fixed it as soon as we told them about it, was a ring around the tub, the door seems to have been kicked some time ago. The little market was well stocked with a good variety of snacks, drinks and meal stuffs. The staff was great!

Small Town - Older Motel - Dottie who checked us in was very nice. Not sure about the \"kitties in the box\" may not be good for those allergic to cats - and the area being a grocery store/coffee-donut station. Picture of room just like on the website - Water Pressure Good - Needs Better pillows or extras - Unable for 2 people to pass each other when walking around - very tight - No place to hang clothing - Left in suitcase- Not soundproof - listened to woman crying about her boyfriend \"he is so mean at 2:30 am\" Watched starting of parade from there. Golf Cart was a Good Service - The one thing: If you are going to relax - just note that the owners ? that lived there ? were very loud and talked the entire time - complaining mostly about her family ? and a guy named Jay ? If not in person - the one lady would be on the phone complain to the person on the other end. The kids? where running amok around here and there screaming etc. The other place on the property was very dishelved out side. My recommendation - good place if you need to stop for a quick night - not for a relaxing weekend. I would stay in Reno or Carson and just Uber Up and Down for an event.

Being in Virginia City, Nevada think along the lines of Old West, and then it will make sense that this motel is quite \"rural\" and built how many decades ago? Sadly, we didn't take photos of the room.

The owners are giving this old motel a needed face lift and the shower was awesome! Very spa like and I was envious of it. Like a natural rain.The owner really tricked this one out! The towels are plentiful, soft, and smell great.

The room itself was not big, but again, think \"rural'.

The owners were quite gracious and got the flat TV screen to work. The bed was comfortable. And because the motel is directly facing a major street, we took everything of importance out of our car for the night. Even though we always lock our car. The motel is within walking distance to the many quaint shops and eateries. They have a small market on the premises.

The only negative: Find out if the heater is working. Remember, the owners are revamping an old motel. And we didn't want to bother them as it was after 8 p.m. But the heater was broken. It was a good thing we didn't have a lighter (We're non-smokers) thinking we could get the pilot light on. That would have been a huge mistake! But the owner did make a point to remind us after they got the TV working, that anything we need - Anything, give them a call. It is not a bother after all he is the owner and would gladly help his customers. They make good on that!

* And a decent stay in old, Virginia City.

It’s a cute and charming place none the less! We have stayed there twice. Winter rates are a bit more inline, I do think it’s a bit pricey for what it is and I do wish check out time was later. They do have a very early checkout time compared to most other places. Overall we love this place and will be back.

It was good for what we needed except i was not informed when i booked the room or when we checked in that the wall heater was not working( waiting on parts), there was a oil heater but it wasnt on and it took about 2.5 hrs to get from 58° to where we werent shivering (snowed next morning) other than that it was good.

PET FRIENDLY!!!! Due to our cat being recently diagnosed with diabetes, we have to take her everywhere we go now and discovered The Sugarloaf is actually pet friendly. It was our first time staying here however we felt like we have known them for years. The owners were so welcoming and caring and we got to meet the team member that has been there the longest not to mention the cutest, a kitty named Smokey and she was absolutely amazing.
It’s such a cute little place. We went the weekend before Halloween so the Motel was decorated all up, it was so cute. The bed was very comfortable, the room was nice and clean, and I like that the room offered both heat and an air conditioning unit (even though it was end of October it was still quite warm), so that was really nice. The room also had a mini fridge and a microwave another plus! And what was really nice was the little market that literally had everything that you needed right there in the Motel. Also we enjoyed the location. It’s at the opposite end of all the bars. So it’s nice and quiet at night. After being there a few minutes our kitty felt right at home.
Parking is right in front of the rooms each room has a parking spot! Everything is pretty much within walking distance unless you leave Virginia City. They did offer a shuttle to local areas for tips which was really nice.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and we know we have found our home away from home in Virginia City, NV.

Comfortable friend trip

The lady who works the front office is absolutely AMAZING! She is the sweetest and we had a great conversation over the coffee in the morning.
The bed was so comfortable and the property has cute asthetic.
I definitely want to go back soon.

Surprisingly comfortable for a relatively small room. It is obvious that the owner has taken a lot of time and put in $ to upgrade the room (can only speak for room #10). Bathroom was beautiful. Bed was comfortable, linens were soft. Small store onsite was a plus. All the staff were very nice and helpful.
