The property has been there a long time. Amenities are old. You can hear people talking in the adjacent room and you can hear the wind blowing through the windows/walls. You drive a long way to get to the property. Lovely view of the surrounding mountains and the lake.
There is no breakfast provided. Limited selections available for breakfast in the restaurant on the property. I had the french toast and did not really care for it.

Discriminate single American travelers Would be seated at main dining and hadnt eaten since 5am (It was 5:30pm their time) Family after me without a reservation was seated. Buffalo and trout was on menu but\"out\" as end of season. Id stay on US side on how I was treated. I don't think they understand the cost we incur just for the experiecne and time it takes to fly and then drive there.

The exterior and all the common areas of the hotel are beautiful. Our room, however, was shabby. The carpet was old, the blinds were old, and the chairs were filthy, and the cushions were as flat as pancakes. The room was not clean. The windows were filthy, and the beautiful new bathroom had dirt on the tile underneath the mirror which you couldn’t even see in. The room smelled musty. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. There was a $12 convenience fee if you wanted anything such as a hairdryer or white noise machine. The staff was absolutely wonderful. I was very disappointed.

The property was borderline decrepit, with thin walls/old carpet in rooms &unsafe large single pane window in the bar. Grounds looked kind of grubby immediately surrounding the hotel. The lake of course was beautiful. The staff were very good, and the beds comfy, but the hotel overall compares poorly to other historic icons like the Banff Springs

The location for this hotel is wonderful. Outstanding views which take your breath away. The hotel is a beautiful time piece and lovely to look at. The young staff are pleasant and very helpful.
Sadly that’s where the good things end.
Do not expect anything approaching a good night’s sleep due to the noise from other rooms despite wearing ear plugs! There is no coffee after 10 am unless you buy it from the gift shop. There was no tea available at all. It says that residents have free tea and coffee from 6.00am to 10.00am yet on leaving the hotel charges $25 for ‘amenities’ which is parking plus the coffee and non-existent tea!!
The only water to be had is located down a steep flight of stairs which is not accessible if you have mobility issues. You have to ask for hairdryers at the reception.
On top of all of this are the swarms of flies everywhere! The notices explain that due to being in a national park the hotel can’t get rid of them. It’s awful and we had several bites.
The rooms are very cramped and dark. There is a smell of manure everywhere. We were very sad as this was going to be a real highlight for our trip.

I would not have stayed just for the experience if I knew what I was getting. A room with no extras, no AC, no coffee maker, the one ice machine is in the basement many floors from the room. The rooms can hear every door closing, every person walking around the room and can even hear a person in the room next to us on the phone. Just an old hotel. Not worth the cost, though a very unique place and a gorgeous view. Everyone has to make that call themselves, but for me and my family…we would not stay here again. Get down on the lake with all the hotels with normal stuff.

The rooms were comfy & clean. The hotel itself is a masterful piece of history with it’s 98 year old wooden architecture. Very cool! The whole Welsh thing could be toned down. It’s a little too much. The Staff were mostly young visa workers whom were awkward & not cohesive in their costumes & attention to details & speaking confidently. I overheard one server only talking to 2 very uninterested patrons about how she couldn’t wait to leave & go back to New Zealand. I saw no Senior management present at anytime. With a hotel of this calibre & given it’s incredible history, that the staff should be more seasoned & attentive. Also, the menu was ok. It could be re-vamped to reflect more classics & have more locally sourced ingredients.

Loved that it had an elevator; frank often gave us a ride up to the 4th floor, and helped with our bags. He was so very nice and friendly.
Matias was friendly when checking in and out.
Also a very nice waitress during breakfast at the restaurant on the right side upon entering .i wish i could remember her name.
Everyone was very nice, courteous, and asking about plans we had or offered suggestions. Cannot remember the young mans name that also took us in the elevator. Culry hair with s little moustache. Gave us a history lesson about the elevator as well as Frank.
One other wonderful thing was the large updated shower. We were on the 5th floor.
I would love to visit again, but a longer stay next time.

We had a very relaxing time. Fun scenic boat ride and some nice short hikes and beautiful drives. Also enjoyed the Buffalo Paddock. Waterton is not near as crowded as GNP in Montana!

Stayed here traveling back from Jasper to Kalispell. The lodge was in a beautiful location. Phenomenal views and we actually walked to the Bears Hump trailhead. Service was average. We waited 45 for our breakfast in the restaurant. One small slow elevator - we took the stairs.

The thing that stands out about this property is that it is a unique legacy hotel with a one of a kind character. It was constructed by the Great Northern Railroad in conjunction with neighboring Glacier National Park. One must remember when staying at such a property that it is old and because of it's historical significance it is not modern so there are \"inconveniences\" that are a part of that special legacy. The staff is young and eager to please and proud of the property and the legacy that it represents and this is reflected in the service that they provide. If you are going to stay at Waterton Lakes National Park (Glacier/Waterton International Peace Park) you absolutely should consider staying here.

The hotel is an old hotel but if you want to enjoy the nostalgia of it for a night I’d say do it! Great view of Upper Waterton lake. Food & drinks a bit spendy. Many stairs to climb if you stay on upper floors or get a Bell boy to take you on the old elevator. Staff were amazing and so kind and helpful.
No air conditioning, just fan & windows open. Our room was quite small with a great view of lake.

Overpriced and overrated - avoid

Hotel put us in a room beside the ladies bathroom first night, it was also an adjoining room which was loud and the neighbours complained about our daughter crying at 8pm and got moved. The second night, they moved us to a room beside the elevator basically in the attic, after we asked right in the morning to move, the front desk said that's all they had to offer. It was the loudest most inconvenient stay ever. The front desk staff was young and inexperienced, they put people with a baby in the loudest rooms, causing them to have to move 2+ rooms (ours and our neighbours). Not sure if it's because we booked hotels.com - but felt like we were discriminated against because of how we booked - that or the staff are totally incompetent.

The hotel is old and rickety. For what you pay, you get a 100 year room with pillows that are from dollarama 5 years ago. The staff seem unprofessional and the whole hotel / restaurant are essentially a cash grab.

Definitely recommend staying in town and just going here for the viewpoint. This was one of the worst stays I've ever had.

Built in 1927 the hotel has history and elegance with a million dollar view! The evening presentations were informative and presented by staff dressed in traditional uniforms. The elevator is one of the oldest in Canada and cannot be operated independently by guests therefore a climb of 71 steps to get to our 5th floor room was required. The rooms are simple and a bit small, but that lake & mountain view made up for it. We would definitely stay again!

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times. Every other year I would have highly recommended it, but changes this year have completely altered the atmosphere of the hotel. The Prince of Wales is a historical site, and is worth staying at for that reason. There are no televisions in the rooms, so the center of activity was the area south of the lobby. In previous years this was a dynamic place, with family's playing games, people enjoying a coffee or drink in front of the large windows, visitors taking pictures. It was a meeting place and gave a welcoming, open feeling to the hotel. This year this area was blocked off. It was changed to a pay restaurant and lounge area. This changed the area to a sterile wasteland, completely altering the atmosphere of the hotel. There is also no other area in the hotel for paid guests to gather. I cannot recommend the hotel for this reason, and next year for my first road trip of the season I will be going elsewhere. Hopefully the hotel changes the area back to what it was before.

Its authentic heritage site experience however its not kid friendly. We opted for ugraded lake facing room but it felt extremely claustrophobic. There is no TV in room pr basic stuff like dryer. Due to the property being very old and on the hills, winds feels very noisy. Views are incredible. Food is decent but service is slow. All in all not a great option for people with familiar but if you are going for a technology free, quiet weekend its a good option.

The service was extremely disappointing and did not match the high price.

When we first arrived, we found a wood tick on the bed. To be fair, when we called the front desk, our bed linens were changed immediately, but this situation raised serious concerns about cleanliness.

The next morning, the front desk asked if we were checking out, even though we had booked and checked in for two nights, the system only showed one.

Lastly, our room was never cleaned during the day. After our first complaint, we were told housekeeping was still working. When we returned that night, the room was still untouched. We had to call again to get it cleaned, which was frustrating after a long day.

Overall, the hotel looks great but the lack of basic service and attention to detail made for a very negative experience. We would not recommend staying at the hotel.

We had a wonderful stay at the Prince of Wales Hotel! The location is absolutely stunning with breathtaking views, and the historic charm of the hotel really added to the experience. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help, which made us feel right at home. We also really enjoyed the food — everything we tried was delicious and thoughtfully prepared.

The only small disappointment was that the bar closed at 10:00 PM. After a day of exploring, it would’ve been nice to unwind a bit later in the evening with a drink and the incredible view. That said, it didn’t take away from what was otherwise a great visit. We’d absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Waterton!

The main great room/lobby of this old historic hotel is pretty much worth it all. Spectacular views and a comfy relaxing atmosphere. The room itself was meh. But it is historic so that’s part of the deal. The point is to spend your evenings down in the great room that is equipped with many chairs, sofas and tables for reading, playing cards, having a drink and looking out at the amazing scenery. There is a good restaurant right off the lobby and also a really nice bar where you can have lunch, dinner or a snack. There is a snack/gift shop open too 9pm where they will make you a speciality coffee. It’s way in the back of the shop so look for it or ask.

The place was situated in a beautiful place with views everywhere. There maintains needed,walk way, and some painting.

Beatifully maintained building but old with limited modern conveniences. Room noisy, drafty, no hair dryer, needs a little more care. Staff and food services great. Location fantastic, building iconic, view from lounge spectacular.
