We arrived at Barberstown castle for a Romantic Friday night at a beautiful country location . My partner arrived at 6:45pm , 30 minutes before me and was forced to pay if she wanted to check in , I had booked the room and wanted to pay, It also seems they close the kitchen at 8:30pm, the dining room was full and the other ( external ) bar areas were closed , the restaurant and bar were booked out with casual diners, wedding and confirmation groups , we were advised to drive to Clane or Maynooth for food , we were advised to call and book these in advance , i later reviewed the hotel manual and suggested room service , they agreed but insisted I pay 12 euro room delivery charge, pay at the room door for the food … like a Takeaway but for a cold , but beautiful tasting small portioned meal … This is the Ryan air of Hotels , they create a problem and then charge you for it citing ‘ company rules and training ‘ they have lost the whole concept of ‘ Customer Experience’

Poor for business traveller, tired and poor value
The bed was old and rock hard and lumpy. The pillows were like bags of cement. The TV didn’t work. Service was minimal at dinner, the order incomplete and no attention from staff which limited service. Breakfast was even more of a joke . I actually mentioned my concerns after being asked about my stay on check out and despite being promised that the manager would contact, I have still not heard any response.

Lovely stay at this hotel. Grounds are beautiful, lots of places to stroll or take photos of castle. Had some issues with toilet and chairs in room were older and too low to sit in. Room was warm but able to open windows and that helped. Canopied bed was very comfortable, heavy comforter which would be wonderful on a cold day. Fine dining restaurant was closed so we ate in the Garden Bar. Very noisy but food and service good. Breakfast in castle very nice with good selection on buffet and a number of hot choices as well.

Booked in for almost a week this April and again…the staff, fantastic, especially Bethan, who was my breakfast waitress each morning, a lovely person, exuded compassion and kindness. Food was excellent, service second to none. Emma at the from desk was fab. Lorna, I missed this year as she is traveling. Rooms are so luxurious and the shower…powerful! A must when you’re from NY, we are spoilt with our water pressure😜. Highly recommend and it is very central.

Gorgeous and unique property. Stayed as an overnight before a morning flight. Half hour away, but needed to leave a bit early due to rush hour traffic. Loved my room with canopy bed and comfortable furniture. The dinner restaurant was lovely and food great. Loved the breakfast served in the old castle keep. The Staff and Management at Barberstown Castle go above and beyond to make sure you have a delightful stay. This was our 2nd. visit in 4 months, and we really enjoyed our time in Barberstown Castle. Food was excellent, Loved the Room. Ted took us on a tour of the whole Castle which was amazing, already planning a return visit! Great Job Folks.

This property was our last and favorite stay during our Ireland travels! We stayed in 6 different hotels and this stay wowed us beyond measure. We were celebrating our anniversary and they made us feel so special at check in! At one point during our stay, the owner of the property, Ted, personally greeted us and showed such warmth to us! The menu in the restaurant was surprisingly affordable and the options were great, even for vegetarians. The room we were in, #33, blew us away, and was so comfortable and clean. What a treat!!

Spend the night in a castle... How can you say no?
Let's be blunt, how many opportunities are you going to have to say you stayed in a castle? The oldest portion was built in the 12th century I think, but it seemed like most of the guest rooms are in the Elizabethan (1500s) or Victorian (1800s) additions. The dining room serves a prix fixe dinner (reservations strongly suggested, although the staff was great about squeezing me in without a reservation) as well as a breakfast with a buffet as well as cooked-to-order food. The grounds are also quite beautiful, although I didn't have time to fully explore them.
