What stood out for us was the support we had. My daughter's baby was born very premature in the local hospital. I spoke to the hotel and they were willing to give us a good price on a room as we didn't know how long we would need it for. They gave us a family room with an extra bed. They put a fridge in the room for expressed milk to be kept until it could be taken to the hospital. The hotel location was perfect as it's walking distance. The staff were extremely helpful and supportive. Mina, Brooke, Emma, Andrea are just some of the names. Thank you for taking some of the stress away from a very worrying and stressful time. We are truly grateful.

Boxing Day check in, many dogs barking in rooms on way to our room. Inside room dirty marks in pillow. Dog barking continued next door and across hall, room at end of corridor with an open fire escape door banging away. Within 15 minutes realised it would be constant noise, the dog owners and smokers were in and out alot in short period of time!
Asked reception to move due to noise and was told it’s a dog friendly hotel - I asked is there a floor or part of hotel dog free for guests - he laughed. I mentioned filthy pillow he didn’t respond. Moved rooms - key cards didn’t work, at reception for 3rd time in 30 minutes with group of guests also unable to use keycards.
The night was very noisy inside and outside with incessant barking from car park and outdoor space. Room was not heated.
Breakfast not great. Guests at breakfast complaining about damp and black mould in room, another complaining about still not getting into their room for the second day running due to faulty key cards.
Definitely not welcoming, not comfortable, not up to scratch.

First room stunk of stale cigarettes, probably due to the window being left open prior to check in and smokers outside.
Easily changed rooms however.
Dated property and decor. Good nights sleep, however running a bath early in the morning made a horrible sound from the boiler. Overall average stay, but at reasonable price.

The toilet was not flushing and the sink was clogged. The general condition of the toilet was old and dated and can do with refurbishing. The toilet roll holder was loose and the roll kept falling off the holder.
The towel radiator was protruding an had a couple of burns.
The headboard above the sink was low and not suitable to tell people as my partner banged his head a few times trying to brush his teeth at the sink. Generally poor experience and may not come back.

We were allocated a room on the ground floor near to the hotel function room. They had their first Christmas party on last night. They really should have allocated the rooms nearest the function room to the people attending the party.
Breakfast felt low quality, hard croissants, cooked breakfast looked dry and unappealing.

Reception staff could not find our booking. They couldn't workout that with 2 rooms and 4 guests (2 other guests had arrived 10 minutes before us) had checked both rooms in at the same time. We were accused of being rude by the duty manager. Saying no we are not paying anymore money when asking if there was a room for us isn't beeing rude. Each time we pointed out (no raised voices or foul language) that it wasn't our fault we were told not to be rude. Being told that it is down to hotels.com and not the fault of Mercure suggests that there is a training issue for the front of house staff.
Room was very tired. 2 extractor fans in bathroom didn't work. 1 was in the actual shower on the wall so not surprised it didn't work. Grout needed replacing in the shower. Side jets just leaked. Desk and drawer unit has laminate lifting and needs repairing. Light bulbs in the bedside lamps were blown.
Breakfast was luke warm and not hot.
Will not be staying there again and not likely to stay at a Mecure property in the future either.

We received a warm welcome from Steve on reception, who explained where everything was, and made some helpful suggestions for our stay.
Our room 132 was a comfortable, quiet, corner room on the ground floor, which was spotless, and had everything we could ask for. Comfortable beds/pillows, large TV, extra heaters and a welcome fan.
We enjoyed a hearty afternoon tea in the restaurant, and later, tasty, quick, room service.
After an excellent nights sleep, we enjoyed a buffet style breakfast in the restaurant. Plenty of choice, clean, well stocked.
A perfect overnight stay!
We usually choose to stay at a Premier Inn, as you know exactly what you're going to get, and the price is competitive.
Going forward, we will now be looking to stay at a Mercure hotel, as the prices are comparable, but the quality and standard of stay are certainly higher.

The breakfast was good and made eggs to order. Reception helped us out with taxis. The bed was comfortable. On arrival things such as parking and breakfast was not made clear to us so we had to ask plus there was confusion over payment. The hotel was clean in the surface but not thoroughly on closer inspection. It was very hot outside and we had a fan but it was not very powerful making being in the room for a long period of time unpleasant.

Hotel is in poor musty smelling condition. Paintwork, carpets fixings is all very old and dirty. Musty smell is so strong in the back rooms 279. Curtains are dusty and smelly.
Its in desperate need of an overhaul, definitely not a 4 star rating.

Definitely not a 4 star hotel .. room way too hot. Freestanding air con unit not working properly as dial broken .. no doors on the wardrobe as they had been taken off .. no bedside table on one side of the bed .. extractor fan in the bathroom was on constantly as no isolating switch .. no safe.. whole place in need of a refurbishment.. we booked two stays in different Mercure hotels & this one was better than the first one.. that one is in Telford & was absolutely terrible .. we left a review of that one with pictures but it’s never been published .. the manager told us we had paid more using hotels.com & that they would have given us a refund but we had to go through Hotels.com but I have found this an impossible task.. we will not be using Hotels.com again or Mercure hotels

The room was very nice and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly. We weren't impressed with the restaurant and only ate in there on our first night. They didn't have the first couple of meals I chose, which was steak and salmon. I ended up having a chicken tika curry, which was very good. We also ended up waiting 20 minutes for our drinks for some reason. Everyone just seem to disappear. They were very apologetic when they realised what had happened. They also advertise on their web site that they a swimming pool, but apparently it's been closed for a while.

We arrived to check in at 8:30 pm and the room wasn’t ready. Check in was supposed to be ready from 3pm.
The room had a disgusting smell to it.
It was an extremely hot weather and there was no AC or working fan.
The beds were uncomfortable to sleep on.
Receptionist who dealt with us didn’t seem to care about anything.
Only decent thing about the the place was the breakfast

Bedbug infestation- avoid this hotel

The horel smells damp and congested. But I didn't mind at first. I the morning I noticed blood dots on the bed when I inspected the bed it was infested with multiple fat bedbugs. They were crawling all over the bed duvet. They were horrible. I couldn't stop itching since a saw them. This is not acceptable in uk. Totally unhygienic. God only know what infections I may have caught being bitten by them all night.

The staff at this hotel are helpful and polite. I had a minor issue with my room, I reported this to reception and they had somebody at my room in five minutes to resolve the issue.
Food was good and I especially enjoyed the breakfast with a wide selection of fruits, preserves and an excellent cooked breakfast choice.
I would definitely visit this hotel again, for me, the mark of excellent customer service is when something goes wrong and how the staff deal with that. Highly recommend

Room felt a bit tired, the security latch on the window was broken, the window itself was dirty, as were most others in public areas, have never seen so many cob webs on the outside of window, they acted as there own security system. A window cleaner needs to be employed. Toilet seat was loose, bath plug not attached to the chain, rusty stains coming from the bath grab rails. The bar area was pleasant & welcoming as was the restaurant. Overall not what we expect from a 4* hotel.

Disappointed that there was no air con in the hotel and especially in our bedroom.
Although a fan was provided it did absolutely nothing to lower the temperature in the room .
I appreciate it was a very hot weekend _ but felt more could have been done before we arrived . Maybe the fan on beforehand or the door left open ?

To be honest we did not get any sleep that night ....very disappointing ....making us very tired next day .

On the plus side the staff were very helpful and polite . Especially the dinning room manager ..
Hopefully if we stay again this might be addressed.

Could do with a tidy up, stained tiles and wallpaper is starting to peel off.

Check in was not wonderful. I was told I had not paid when I had, and then was just passed the keys. Not that welcoming.

If you just want to get in sleep and get out then no issues. Unfortunately our stay had lots of little niggles that just turned this to a very average stay. Breakfast was the highlight and no issues there. Very dusty air vents, radiator and TV. Other issues included the TV remote control batteries were dead, no shower gel (because the linen cupboard key had got lost?!), no beer on tap, small holes in the bed linen (but clean) along with other small but annoying things.

Room was small and needed updating. Lots of noise down the corridor at all times of the night, very early wake up from staff being very loud outside the room.

In the restaurant the server didn’t inform us of the set menu or the deals that were on offer, the table next to us were told about it by a different server. The soup of the day was different depending on what server you got. Staff were rude and too busy setting up breakfast to deal with any queries.

There is no pool. Despite it being on the fire exit maps. Staff at front desk told us it didn’t exist. If it doesn’t exist, why is it on a map.

Pretty decent stay. However the staff are rude. We were standing at the bar for 20 minutes waiting to be served a drink. When we asked the manager she replied “this is how we operate around here.” I was shocked and so was nearby guests, they even commented on her rude manner. Shame when customer service should be paramount in a hotel.

For car drivers a handy location for A21, M25, M20 etc. 5 minutes to Tunbridge Wells (not at rush hour). The hospital is virtually next door and a 5 minute walk to the fantastic Black Horse pub and restaurant in Pembury. The hotel room felt a little tired and could do with a freshen up.

The price isnt right for this run down hotel.

This hotel for the price is really dated and needing work. The lady on reception was lovely at check in but on arrival at the room the tv remote didnt work, the room was very cold and the shower was leaking. The room also seemed very grubby and worn. There was noone on housekeeping so the receptionist had to look for another remote. We didnt sleep well as the matress was over soft so newer matresses required. Used it as a stopover before an operation and the location and the receptionist welcome was the only positive of the stay.

Top customer care and relaxing surroundings.

We were incredibly well looked after by all the staff we met there. We had told them my husband had mobility issues and we had a room just nearby reception and the dining area, making access really easy. They had also given us a room with 2 comfy chairs which myself, and especially my husband, really appreciated after travelling. There was a great selection of choices at breakfast, with staff replacing items as soon as they were needed. The Mercure is a great base to explore the local area, we were able to really rest and relax. We will definitely be visiting again!

The location of the hotel was great, close to all the local amenities, free parking as long as you register your car, which isn't to big an issue. Though the car park is poorly lit at the entrance and some parts of the car park. Cigarette butts, near the entrance of the hotel. Though NO blame on the hotel, just the disrespectful guests. The accommodation was lovely in most parts, everything in your room for your stay. The corridors were cold, was the only downside. All the staff were so lovely, they really went the extra mile. Especially Lisa and Ernest at breakfast were so informative and Just made the stay very enjoyable. My partner and I would recommend this hotel to stay in.

We received a friendly welcome and the rooms were clean and comfortable and provided all that we needed.
We partook of the hotel breakfast, which was amazing, and probably one of the best I’ve had in a hotel … so much choice!
