I couldn’t have loved this place more, great quirky rooms a real old pub feel with fantastic delicious food and great drink choices, a pleasant away from the woeful Madri and Carling most pubs now stock.

The Bell Inn is a fabulous example of a quirky and eccentric coaching inn incomparable to any other. Fabulous attention to detail, beautiful luxurious rooms. We would have no hesitation in recommending. However be prepared if you stay in the main hotel rooms to either stay up in the bar until it closes or to listen to every word and every cheers from the comfort of your own room.

We booked to stay as it was near to Wadhurst Castle where we were attending a wedding. The room was The Yew and Eye. Spotlessly clean and a lovely area out the front to sit and enjoy a drink. Very quirky but charming. The welcome at reception and talk through in the room was excellent. The young lady even took a few moments out of her very busy day to give us a brief history of the pub. The bar was busy but well staffed. Breakfast was ample , fresh and most welcome

Our room was Yew and Eye, one of the newly built cabins in the garden of this historic inn with a twist. The design is like nothing we’ve ever seen before with surprises every way you look. The room itself has human eyeballs as a decorative theme which was fascinating and amusing. The standard double bed was extremely comfortable, there was plenty of useful storage and good ventilation. A huge marvellous and stylish shower. Gardens, bars, reception and restaurants are all full of delights and the staff are so friendly! Great communication in advance. Would love to stay for longer and highly recommend.

The bed was way too soft and the room was extremely noisy with the poor quality windows. The noise of the cars outside sounded as if they driving past the bottom of my bed. I had the worst nights sleep that I can remember because of this.

This was our 2nd overnight stay and taster menu as we were very impressed last year.
This time we stayed in one of the lodges (Pretty Vacant) and it was delightful!
Walking into the lodge it felt cosy and comfortable as soon as we were in the door. Lovely and spacious, extremely clean with everything you could want, large double bed, big two seater sofa, walk in shower and bath and also a private little terrace with fire pit.
We had booked to have the 5 course taster menu again this year and it was as exceptional as last year! All the lovely little quirky additions make it all the more special and the food was Beautifully cooked and was really superb!
The staff were all friendly, pleasant, helpful and efficient!
The only thing I would say that let it down a little was breakfast! Weak tea, ice cubes in the fresh orange (which watered it down) and streaky bacon in the full English! (Minor issues when our overall stay was brilliant)

A super friendly welcome and a room upgrade would normally justify a 5* review, but unfortunately the pub failed to notify us that they were hosting a wedding party that evening. Loud music until 11.15 and then people singing/talking loudly until midnight. We were told that guests are usually informed when booking, but we must have slipped through the net because we made a late booking (2 days prior) and a new member of staff was on duty. I’d recommend checking before you book your stay.

Had a lovely weekend at The Bell with my sister and our two dogs. This is my second stay with The Bell and I will definitely come again. The hotel loves and welcomes dogs which is great! We stayed in a lodge which was funky and comfortable and had a really good powerful shower! The hotel were great accommodating my sister who is a vegan by providing vegan brownies each day in the room and oat milk for tea and coffee. Overall a lovely, comfortable stay! Thank you.

However, whether they were understaffed as many venues are at the moment, or we just got unlucky, the service wasn’t up to the standard we expected. We were all but forgotten during our dinner and after a 45 min wait for the main course, we had to prompt them. General service of checking on us for drinks etc. was also a little lacking.
I would like to return, hoping that we just got unlucky!

Lovely oldey worldly pub in small hamlet of ticehurst - bar and evening meal were both great- room was unpractical and very very noisy- worst night sleep I’ve ever had in a hotel/pub, appreciate there will be noise above a pub but you could hear and understand conversations over the pub music! The hotel/pub is nicely situated in the old village of Ticehurst. The check-in was quick and easy and the staff polite and helpful. The room (ours overlooking the front) was clean and comfortable with good amenities and WiFi. We enjoyed a really nice meal and drink in the bar downstairs and garden. Their are some nice shops and cafes to enjoy in the village and a good selection of walks around the countryside.

The Bell has become a very popular Wedding venue and as such rarely has rooms available to non wedding guests at weekends. We stayed on one of the occasions when they did albeit they were hosting a wedding reception. At first we thought it was going to be little manic but the staff managed admirably, always friendly and efficient, it actually provided great people watching! The restaurant was also full but again nothing suffered the food and service were great. The only drawback was that we didn’t feel we could sit outside as that would have been encroaching on the wedding guests. The decor of the pub and rooms is quirky but in a good way and certainly makes it individual. The pub also appears to be a real favourite with locals which is always nice to see. The area certainly has plenty to offer so hopefully would stay again if I can manage to get a booking

A very quirky place to stay. Our bedroom was spacious and certainly unique! Facilities were good, a cute bath, lots of hot water, nice toiletries, great tea/coffee making facilities.
All staff were friendly and helpful and appeared to enjoy working there.(I haven't noticed this in many hotels). Breakfast was great and our evening meal was too.
The garden was beautiful and full of unique touches. There wasn't much going on in the village but that doesn't really matter if you have transport.
