The room was nice and clean when we arrived but we noticed that the bathroom floor was never cleaned during our stay ( a dead daddylonglegs remained by the toilet during our entire stay) and neither was the bedroom carpet vacuumed as far as we could see.

Also the floor of the dining room wasn’t swept regularly - although the tables were always immaculate.

Our bed and pillows were very comfortable and the bedding was changed once during our 5 day stay.
Housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful. A couple of the waitresses were very serious and never smiled, although they were efficient enough.

Parking was ample and the grounds looked delightful- a big perk in summer I imagine.

The breakfasts were well cooked and tasty, although what was on offer was a bit inconsistent. Would have been great to have had porridge on the menu! And granary or sourdough bread/toast would be a welcome option. The coffee was plentiful and very good.

Overall we enjoyed our stay, and these criticisms are relatively minor. They didn’t really spoil our stay and we would happily book again.

The property was very clean and the room was brilliant. The horrendous noise when someone went up the stairs, which was inside my room (boxed in) woke us up at 1am one evening and 2am the next evening. The floorboards were extremely creaky and the noise of this was unacceptable. We were also above the dining room so we could hear the people downstairs and the moving of tables. Our room was in the landing which was open and the reception was directly underneath. Sadly we heard the phone ringing all the time as constant talking. Unfortunately this made our stay note pleasurable as we initially thought it would be. The grounds were amazing but the noise was unacceptable. It was not like being in a hotel it was like being in a house with thin floorboards and walls.

Arrived early and left my car in the car park, was offered to check in early however we was in a rush so didn’t take up the offer but it was appreciated. Very easy to check in and check out. Small hotel in a pretty setting . It feels more like B&B rather than a hotel .

We walked to a local vineyard-Carr Taylor via back roads .
However , not much else in safe walking distance as on a very busy road if you turn left and if you turn right is hire country lanes the exception of the vineyard .

If you driving or ubering or walking 10 miles plus this is a good base .

Slept ok . Ate there for evening meal - Resturant onsite but very English pub grub style .

Very loud party ruined our stay

The breakfast was good and the room was spacious BUT (and it is a very big but) there was a function on and the music was so loud right beneath our room (it made the bed shake) that we couldn’t sleep until it was finished. I would recommend anybody choosing to stay here and not because they are there for a function to check if there is one, and if so then steer well clear. Very disappointed.

Pleasant hotel with decent public areas. Food good in restaurant but not able to sample breakfast as this was too late for business guests. Room very warm and difficult to cool even with supplied fan. Quite a tricky exit/entrance from main road depending on time of day.
Staff lovely and made to feel welcome during the stay. Good value for the room chosen and overall a good experience.

The Claverton House Hotel is a lovely, small hotel with good parking, with wonderful grounds and is well located for trips to Battle, Hastings and the Carr Taylor Vineyard. Our family group spent one night in 2 luxury rooms - modern, spacious with king size beds. We had an enjoyable dinner - a good selection of menu options at reasonable prices - and excellent freshly cooked Full English breakfasts. The service by the generally young staff was efficient and friendly.

This hotel is lovely. In a really lovely lication with truly beautiful gardens. We only booked 1 night anf the hotel receptionist was very friendly and sweet. We had a room in the main part of the hotel which overlooked the garden. The view was delightful. Bunnies hopping around and beautiful birds flitting in and out of trees. We had drinks in the afternoon outside in the sunny, warm garden. The room was a reasonable size. Large, very comfortable bed with very cozy covers and pillows, snuggly. The bathroom was a good size, no window but bright enough with the light on. A great size shower which was easy to use and get the right temperature. However, the mirror above the sink is situated too high and I could not see anything apart from the top of my head. I'm 5'6\" so not short by any means. Also, the toilet seat did not fit properly on the loo and it felt likevyou could fall off easily. Something should be done about these two issues I think. The worst thing though, is that there was a lot of dirt on the floor behind the sink pedestal. This had obviously not been cleaned properly for some time as the build up was quite bad. It's a shame they haven't paid clise attention to these things because everything else was lovely. We had breakfast too and the food and service were very good. It was priced reasonably but would have been better with some attention to detail.

Very happy with our choice of hotel. Was glad we upgraded to the king room. Very comfortable and met all our needs. Had evening meal in the restaurant, very good also catered if you did not want anything too rich, more down to earth dishes on the menu too. Breakfast again was very good, good produce, nice and hot, all cooked to order. Well worth a visit.

Claverton was very easy to find and in spite of being very close to the A21, there was no traffic noise. We had a good welcome, by name!, and all our questions were answered. Our room was large, spacious, warm and very comfortable. We were impressed by the attention to detail, plenty of storage for our luggage, art deco style door furniture, many plug sockets, a close up mirror in the bathroom.
In spite of the bar being closed in the winter, we were offered and served drinks in the bar area.
In the morning breakfast was wonderful, with a great menu. The fact I suffer from Coeliacs disease was taken seriously and gluten free toast provided - cooked separately from ordinary toast. The member of staff went over and above to support us with a personal issue. The gardens are delightful - even in the rain! All in all our stay was an extremely positive experience. Thank you to all concerned.

The stay was for my husband’s birthday and I emailed beforehand to ask if we needed to book for dinner - I didn’t get a response which wasn’t the best first impression. We were told the owners were in the Canaries on holiday. The hotel was very quiet as apart from us there weren’t many guests staying. You didn’t see many staff and if you wanted anything you had to ring a bell. However all members of staff were friendly and helpful. Dinner was ok but we were asked about 4 times if we had finished when it was clear my husband was still eating so that was slightly annoying. At breakfast the following morning I asked for yoghurt to have with the lovely fruits on offer as it was on the menu, only to be told they didn’t have any as the order hadn’t arrived, so that was disappointing. The cooked breakfast was fine apart from very over cooked bacon. The website is deceptive as it is clearly not up to date. The luxury toiletries were two very small bottles, one shampoo and one shower gel and some cotton wool pads. The bathroom cabinet door wouldn’t open and you had to stretch up to the top to get your fingers to prise it open and the bathroom door didn’t close properly so was noisy if you had to visit during the night. The gardens are lovely and we did manage to sit outside with a drink (mid October) when the sun shone briefly before the storm. The hotel is a bit like staying in someone’s lovely home and although we did enjoy our stay, we wouldn’t stay again.

We would definitely stay again at this Hotel , Not only was it in a beautiful setting but a convenient location should you wish to visit Battle Abbey, Hastings etc. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and were even kind enough on the day of our check out to set up a TV up in the outdoor Bar area for us to watch the England Women's World Cup Final . Lovely country feel inside and out of the Hotel and very good food.

The bedroom was a great size with a really comfortable bed and plenty of space to sit and read. The cooked breakfasts were lovely and really set us up for the day. We only ate in the restaurant once and the food was good - the menu is perhaps more of a “bar food” menu than a hotel restaurant but the choice was good and it was very tasty and good value

Planned quite weekend did not work out

I chose this small hotel because it was in a quiet location and the grounds looked fantastic.
I knew the room was described as small but it was really small.
They have a beer garden in the front which they have offers on food and drink which brings in people from the near by camp site so it was very noisy with a lot of children
And the next night there was a wedding so we could not use the garden. The back grounds are fantastic but my quiet weekend did not work out has planned.
Customers should be informed if their is a wedding booked on the dates they stay so they can make an informed decision.

Who gave 5* rating to this hotel?

The hotel was smaller than I expected and was definitely not a 5* property.
Overall we had a comfortable stay but the dissapointment over the misrating really rankled with me.
We had booked a deluxe room but the room was just like a smallish standard twin. It was clean and comfortable but I've stayed in many 3* hotels for work with similar and sometimes better rooms. The shower was good the bed comfortable and the view over the garden pleasant and peaceful. Breakfast was excellent but the hotel was generally very ordinary. Definitely nowhere near 5*.
The staff were nice enough but we were very dissapointed to arrive on Sunday to find the restaurant wasnt open in the evening and we couldnt get any food so had to go out to Hastings to eat as there was nowhere open in Battle. The hotel's own literature, given out at reception states that food can be provided to eat in the lounge when the restaurant is shut on Sundays. This wasn't true plus when I enquired about ordering a take out to be delivered I was told the bar and restaurant were being closed up at 8.00 In the end we ate out the second night as well to avoid the risk of being the only people in the tiny dining room. The \"lounge\" which we had thought would be a comfortable room for relaxing in was an unstaffed bar with about six tables and hard chairs in.
TBH I wouldnt have minded any of this much if the hotel was honest about what it is - A 3* hotel.It almost spoilt our 35th wedding anniversary break.

The good: staff very welcoming at check in. Room larger than expected and very comfortable. Covid spacing good, staff did not wear masks but I do not think this is mandatory any more. Meals were very good, served quickly and all staff attentive and pleasant. Hotel and grounds are beautiful.
The bad: not a lot, the hotel did everything as expected, we had a noisy tv in the neighbouring room one night which made it hard to go to sleep. The tea and coffee in the room did not include green tea, which I would have expected for a hotel of this standard.

As it was really warm in the evenings we were able to eat outside in the garden and on the terrace. 2nd time we have stayed here and would love to stay again. We have just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay and couldn’t recommend it more. We were greeted with a friendly hassle free check in. Our room had an amazing king size bed which was so comfortable I didn’t want to get out. The weather was very hot but we were able to open the doors to our Juliet balcony and let the breeze in. Couldn’t fault the breakfast. Choose of full English, pastries, toast, omelette all cooked beautifully. We would definitely go back.

Claverton House was lovely and suited my needs for a business trip.

That said should I need to return to the area for leisure then I will definitely stay here again.

Ample on site parking and the food was great.

Can't sit straight on the toilet due to space. To close to the wall. £4.00 for a pint of lime cordial and soda. Apparently bottled sida water not on syohon. No drinks price list. Took a bottle of water with to my following evenings meal as afraud to ask for the cost if a pint of tap water. No drinks price list. Room is really is a very small double . Bottom of the TV mounted at 1.76 meters or 5' 9\" from the floor. No tilt down action for better viewing angle. Next to front door of building so anyone leaving early door slam wakes you. leaving premises to join main carriage way was difficult. No mirror to see around hedges etc.
