If we had taken the time to read the reviews on this hotel, we would NEVER have booked to stay here.
We decided that we could not sleep in the room/bed and left in the early hours of the morning to return home.
The room smelled, it was cramped, cold and not clean. The floor was uneven with very badly stained carpet.

Very friendly proprietor greeted us. He had sent a welcome email saying early check-in was available and we took advantage of this arriving just after 12.
They offer to keep your luggage on the day you leave so you can explore the area without the hassle of bags.
The hotel although a bit dated is very clean and very comfortable. We had a room at the top of the house with amazing seaviews.
The bed was comfortable and the bathroom although small was again very clean and had a lovely powerful shower.
All in all for a seafront property it was a great price and great value for money. Would definitely stay here again !!

After a long drive From Bristol and sorting through things after a bereavement, I found Grand Hotel very welcoming. The Manager Pete was very understanding to our situation. He made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We were in room 18 overlooking the beach and sea, the amnesties basic, kettle tea coffee etc, bathroom was equally good and clean. I can’t fault this hotel. Easy parking till 10am will be definitely be recommending the Hotel to Family and Friends.

Not value for money

The hotel was very basic and in need of updating to the bedroom and the bathroom. The carpet was very stained, the bed duvet cover was very worn and bed was not very comfortable. The bathroom towels were also old and worn out. No toiletries were included. The outside of hotel was also not appealing with dirty windows and old fashioned net curtains. The only good thing about the hotel was the manager who was very nice and friendly. Hotel was expensive for the night at £100 and not value for money.

One night stay

On arrival we was greeted by the owner, very friendly, the hotel was extremely dated and like we had stepped back in time. Our room was at the top, floors were uneven, room smelt musky, window straight open, no batteries in the remote for the tv, i was looking for another plug socket to charge my phone. Wish i never looked behind the bedside cabinet! The bathroom well.... the shower could do with a good clean with bleach and mould remover, the shower had not been cleaned after the last visitor! The bed was extremely old, i dread to think how old. If you are looking for comfort, then im sorry, this is not the place. Good location but just very outdated.

The facilities advertised in EXPEDIA website did not exist there. There is no restaurant, no bar, no room service, no parking, no cleaning, no fridge, ....
Everything was very old and poorly maintained. The room carpet was dark grey, while when one of the beds was moved accidentally, same carpet underneath it was pink! No fridge. cheap beds. Too little toiletries. Very small shower. The shower head was moving, would not stand still, so I had to hold it with one hand. The whole bathroom was humid with no window and only a small old fan that was not working properly. Old and thin doors. Old and small TV. The hotel was a little far from the Hastings attractions but that was not much of problem.

The owner was friendly and chatted a lot over check in. Which was slightly irritating as just wanted to check in and explore Hastings. He was elderly and slow so was patient with him. There was no explanation of facilities in hotel e.g. wifi, breakfast etc. Room was clean and comfortable. On check out there was no one at the reception so was unsure of procedure. Ended up seeing a member of staff and she told us to leave the keys on the counter. This was the only staff we encountered on our stay. But for one night was comfortable and clean.

Very basic, could do with new mattresses, bathroom had three doors! One that led straight onto the communal hallway, one was locked, and one door to the room.
The building has been repainted grey and no longer yellow - so bit confused when trying to find it. Parking - had to pay.
On the plus side it was clean and thank goodness for the sea view!

Nice service but needs updating.

The gentleman who checked me in was lovely. The room was adequate. I'm sure this place was quite something in its day but it felt like it had not been updated in quite some time. The room had a lingering scent of damp, as did the lounge. The carpet in the room was worn and likely needed a deep cleaning (hence, the lingering scent). The location was fine, though my 'partial sea-view' room did not really have a sea view unless you count standing in the doorway to the en suite bathroom and look out the window at a severe angle.

The manager firstly put phone down on me when I was calling regarding where to park, he insisted I rind door bell instead of him popping his head out as unless there is parking outside you could have a long walk!!

Then the hotel exterior is now grey not yellow so I called to ensure this was the correct property and the manager spoke as if I should know this.. then we went in and the hallway is dated with a musty smell, I asked if rooms were like this and he said if I decided I did not want to stay that would be fine, so me and my 6 year old son were immediately put off.
We asked to view room before we checked in, the room was very small and just ok for 1 night but at top of hotel a lot of stairs to be carrying bags too.

Then the beds- literally like sleeping on cardboard. Terrible night sleep, noise from main road horrendous and the absolute worst was that we were to top room very high up to find the window did not have a child lock.. we were up and out of there as quick as possible after no sleep and the overflow on the loo also needed fixing.

It’s okay

It was okay. The beds were alright, the room was alright, nothing that makes you get excited to stay as you enter the room. Took a long time to just to sign in and get a key to the room. My security pin was asked for which it shouldn’t be as it’s prepaid and therefore no concern to the owner.

Not quite what we expected. Older property that was very tight to move around. The room was smaller than all but one cruise ship cabin, same with the bathroom. On the plus side, Peter, the manager/owner (?) was very friendly, chatty and went out of his way to book a very nearby restaurant after we checked in. And it was excellent. We also had issues finding the property even thought we were using Apple Maps and an onboard GPS to guide us.

Peter the owner was worse than basil at faulty towers. I have pictures of bed with a board underneath lumpy mattress. The bed side table was something out of the 60s and coming apart. Had to get dressed in the middle of the night as kept ringing the reception as no heating and the message said send a fax. When I was leaving with a recently broken hip and a scar the was leaking through the dressing. Peter decided to come into the lounge area and accused me of soiling his bed by waving sheet at me. never have i had such an awful time in a time i was in pain and ill. Travelodge treated me better.

I arrived on the weekend of a huge Hastings event which I was unaware of before making my booking . Peter , emailed me to inform me and also rang me to ensure that I was aware of the parking situation as well as giving me some information about the event . Thanks Peter for your courtesy and excellent communication.
If you’re looking for a spotless room in a a great location for the quiet part of the seafront and aren’t bothered about unnecessary frills then you will be happy . Perfectly functional .

Comfy beds

Room was a little musty but sorted by opening the window every day. Couldn't have it open at night due to the traffic & the high winds! Comfy beds though, so we slept well. Bathroom was fairly new but the hotel does need some updating.

Dated but delightful

Booked at last minute for a very reasonable price and there were some mixed reviews online so wasn't sure what to expect. I spoke to the owner on the phone to confirm my booking the day before and he turned out to be quite the character! The hotel itself is an old building and has a very dated style of décor, but there isn't actually anything wrong with this, it's obviously the style of the owner. Everything was quite antiquated in fact as I had to sign a guest book and got a hand written receipt.

I had booked a family en-suite room and it was spotlessly clean and fairly comfortable, although the mattress was far too hard for my liking. The only thing wrong with the room was the absolutely ancient 4:3 ratio TV that made everything we watched look like it was being played back from a very worn VHS video. They really should replace it. There was Wi-Fi though, which was kind of unexpected.

There was plenty of street parking (max 2 hours 8am-6pm) and one disabled spot right outside, which was always being used, so you do have to keep moving your car if you are hanging around. Wasn't a problem for us as we were visiting different places.

Overall the hotel is quite dated, but it's good value and very clean, so I would definitely stay there again.

Grand Hastings review

Stayed 2 nights and double bed was most uncomfortable very hard needs new mattres. Twin room beds were fine. No breakfast though. Parking was advertised but very difficult to find in public areas no parking on site it was on the side of the road. Otherwise very nice stay. Road very busy during the day but very quiet at nights. We had two sea view rooms which was very nice. Would stay here again if we needed too.

Good value for money. Good service.

We had a good stay during term break with the kids. The room was decent, but considering the price it was great value for money. Above all the room and the bathroom were very clean (that’s always our concern). Mattress could be a little more comfortable but this was great for a 2 night stay. The hotel is right across the beach as an added bonus.
Peter was very friendly and informative, had it not been for him we would have missed out on a visit to Bodiam castle. He also gave good tips for the rainy day.
Not sure we would come back to Hasting, but if we do we would reuse this hotel.

worst hotel ever

when we finally found the place due to it being a completly different look to the pictures aswell as circuling the hotel for half an hour trying to find a space to park, we were greeted by a very friendly man who would not stop talking, kept us outside with luggage in our hands even after explaining we had a long drive and just wanted to get to our room. spent another 10 mins at reception before walking up a mountain of stairs ( understandably as it was an old building).
when we got in the room, the smell of an old peoples home continued along with the outdated and tatty furniture.
bedding looked worn and faded, ripped bed base and hairs in bed, shower, toilet and sink. but the nail in the coffin was the whole room was the bed tiltes backwards because the floors was way off being level, so much so they had to put 2 pieces of carpet underneath the wardrobe to stop it falling over.
there was also no safety lock on the window and when your that high up i think you need it. this would not be so bad if you was not paying £90 a night to stay there which we ended up cutting our losses and leaving without saying a word to the manager because we didnt want to feel obligated to stay. this is this worst hotel we have ever stayed in, ever. in comparison we have stayed in a hotel called Senlac in the same area for £67.00 a night which is emaculate in cleanliness and decor.

Disappointing

Bedroom and bathroom were clean, but overall condition of hotel needs seriously updating, we did not bother going for the breakfast as didn't know what to expect. We had a family room which was at the very top and no lift. As you enter the hotel there is an awful smell of a building that is very old. I wish i looked into it further before booking 2 nights was more than enough and if it had been longer i would have looked into moving somewhere else.

The hotel accepted our booking on Expedia at 11pm, but their reception closed at 9pm and they didn't answer the phone, so we couldn't checkin at all and we had to book elsewhere. Once your reception is closed and you're not answering your phone, you shouldn't take any more bookings. A complete waste of time and money.
