We had a big group staying and on the whole we had a wonderful experience. Some of the frustrations were long lines to checking at the front of the hotel, and also one of our rooms was not available until after 5pm, while checkin was supposed to be at 4pm. Also, they provided drink ticket vouchers but the bar staff couldn’t accept them so it was strange. All in all, great location and quality experience.

First off - staff was great. Pool area and gym fine. Restaurant leaves a bit to be desired but wouldn’t have prompted a review.

Rooms are absolute garbage. Fresh renovation but they left the ancient windows and sealed them shut. Air conditioning did not work in my room nor my travel bud’s room. He got moved to three different rooms and they all had issues. Last room the plumbing didn’t work. Plumbing in common area washroom didn’t work either. I didn’t ask for a room change as it was a short visit and I didn’t want to pack my bag multiple times. This place sucks!

I rarely write reviews this negative, but my recent experience at the Kimpton Hotel Sylvia was unacceptable. In over a decade of frequent travel, this was easily one of the most disappointing stays I have ever encountered.
The Room & Maintenance
The issues began immediately when I was checked into the wrong room—a significant downgrade—and told that since the hotel was full, nothing could be changed. The room itself was in a state of total disrepair:
• Hygiene: The room was visibly dirty. There was trash left in the bins from previous guests, hair on the floor, and even old hair clips left behind.
• Climate Control: The air conditioning was completely non-functional.
• Plumbing: The bathroom was rusted out, the toilet did not function properly, and the shower would not turn off once started.
The Staff
The only reason I am giving this stay even one star is the staff. They were genuinely friendly and professional; however, they are clearly working with a property that is so run down that there is very little they can do to improve the guest experience.
Verdict
No amount of friendly service can make up for a room that is fundamentally broken and unsanitary. Until this property undergoes a massive renovation, I would strongly advise staying anywhere else.

Front desk staff was outstanding. Rachel was lovely to talk to, and ensured we received our breakfast vouchers along with a run down of the hotel amenities.
Overall the staff was friendly.
Two downsides to the room we stayed in. First, it had an odd musty smell, and secondly, when the shower runs the bathroom floor floods.
I do want to add the room looked lovey, it might just need some additional cleaning.
Overall, the experience was pleasant and the hotel is pet-friendly.

The staff was incredible. Rachel the assistant manager was wonderful. I was incredibly sick and she made sure that the food that I ordered was delivered to my room (she delivered it herself!) and that I had a swift checkout. The hotel itself was gorgeous and wished that I hadn't been so sick to enjoy more of it. Will absolutely stay here again. Amazing hotel and even better staff!!

Typically a great stay!! But this time they put me in the wrong room, failed to give me my vouchers. Zero accountability for mistake. I had to ask for a refund. Love love the Sylvan hotel. Greeted very nicely when I checked in. But I had to bring the issue of the elevators to the front desk three times. I requested more towels and they never arrived. The bathrooms in the lobby were not clean at all. This used to be an excellent stay. But the attention to details has gone out the window.

Requested the quietest room…. Wa put on the far south side upper floor… seemed like it would be the quietest right? Nope, thin walls and someone right next to you in a likely 1/2 filled hotel is irritating.. not to mention the alarm clock that went off at 6:00 that I did not set, and also the 6:30 construction zone right outside my window.

I stayed at the Kimpton Sylvan Hotel in Atlanta and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. After returning late from a concert, I was told my room had been closed out without my knowledge — even though I never checked out. On top of that, extremely loud music continued throughout the night until 5 AM, making it impossible to get any rest.

I spent a significant amount of money expecting a comfortable stay, and these issues completely disrupted my visit. I have contacted management for resolution but want to share this experience so future guests are aware.

The location of the hotel was fine. The room furnishing and size were nice. However, there were wine stains on the carpet and the ac was not on in the room when we arrived. The hotel must have been an old office building that was renovated into a hotel. The original windows were still there and were not replaced. The bathrooms were clean and updated. The staff were all friendly. The hotel needs a refresh on the lobby floors and elevator floors are in bad shape. Surprised that Kimpton would let the maintenance upkeep get in that kind of condition.

The staff was awesome, especially at the front desk. Super friendly and easy to talk to. I had an A/C problem the first night, and they moved me immediately without me even asking, and even went up to the new room to make sure the A/C and everything else was acceptable before giving me the key. Breakfast was great, and the bartenders at St Julep were easy to talk to and kept my glass full...what more can you ask for.

Kimpton Sylvan was a nice & quiet 2 night stay. Guest relations staff was very warm, friendly, & helpful - all of them! I enjoyed the amenities around the hotel esp, the arboretum, pool side, fitness ctr, and all the spaces to sit throughout. The rooms were spacious and clean. Initially, the sink was stopped up in my room, but the staff made quick efforts & fixed it. I will definitely stay again.
