Retreat Guesthouse Luxury suites home is absolutely beautiful an very relaxing!! The house was super clean, neat, and organized! Many balconys you can go out on a feel the sun and look at the beautiful views!!!
The hosts was extremely friendly an helpful!! I highly recommend for anyone looking for a beautiful guest house while they stay in Jamaica !!!

David is a delightful host! Come here for an authentic and relaxing stay in Jamaica. We loved the room, it was plenty of space for 1 adult and 2 teens. We enjoyed the gorgeous sunset from the balcony, relaxing by the pool, and the easy access to some isolated and heavenly beaches.

It was like a secluded plantation Mansion on a quiet dirt road. Words can’t describe the beautiful house, they offered food and transportation, the caretaker was the nicest grandmother, kindly and helpful. And the staff drove me to the lagoon and to my next stay (average taxi price, but 24 hour convenience). I will stay here again when I bring my family, it was luxury at a motel 6 prices. She even squeezed me fresh papaya juice, and cooked a delicious breakfast

No air conditioner was included assuming that every property in Caribe had to have AC. Good for you Expedia!!!!! So, they charge me 40 dollars per day aditional to the rate I already arranged to pay. David and the lady at the property were nice and very kind.

Complete nightmare. Checked out before staying a night. Property description is completely misleading. Air conditioning is not available in any room with a view, the rooms with a view do not have functional showers, staff is rude and always in your room. Avoid this place.

Retreat Guesthouse stay

This guesthouse was a nice quiet get-away from the noise, traffic, loud music etc. of bigger cities. Joyce, the owner & her son David were very hospitable and the food was amazingly delicious! I would recommend this guesthouse to others looking for peace & quiet with a beautiful view. Would rebook, no problem!

HORRIBLE!!!!! DO NOT STAY HERE. Never stayed at this Guesthouse, when called to let them know I am on my own, I was told my reservation was cancelled. I was left stuck in an area that I was not familiar with and had to book with another hotel for the night. When I contacted Expedia, they were not helpful in refunding me. I DO NOT plan on using Expedia in the future.

This was easily one the WORST hotel stays I have ever had in my life! Upon arrival, the property owner acted as if we weren't expected to arrive that day. Then I discovered that the toilet in our bathroom was absolutely filthy - I travel with Clorox wipes so I cleaned it myself. The house is a large house with decent rooms but it's in the middle of nowhere. We asked about getting a taxi to the beach & the owner arranged for her handyman to take us in their old van. I was fine with this but we agreed upon a time for pickup but in the middle of enjoying our beach time, we were informed that we would have to take a taxi back to the hotel. Although I'd asked for a taxi # one was never provided and as we had arranged for pickup, I didn't bring my phone with me to even be able to call said taxi. This should have given me an indication of the rest to come. We could not access even something as basic as hot water unless the owner or her son were around. We soon discoverd how to just boil water ourselves in the kitchen if it was early. Without my permission, someone entered our room and rearranged our things but DID NOT CLEAN a thing. No fresh towels, no nothing. Owner told me I needed to tell HER if I didn't want anyone in my room. Then she proceeded to YELL at me when I simply inquired @ who would be in the room next door to mine b/c we shared a balcony with that room. Turns out it was my father but she didn't know that even one day before his arrival! Stay somewhere else!!!!

The Retreat is like and AB&B. Not too posh but comfortable with basic amenties. The room had Wifi and cable the room was clean but could be dusted for cobwebs. My only issue was the manager could be better dressed. But great location overlooking the beach. Super quiet and cozy. I would stay here again

9 women on a mission trip were in for a surprise

The Retreat Guest house was a wonderful surprise with spacious rooms, views of the sea and mountains, sounds of the birds in the morning, great hospitality, Jamaican cuisine prepared by an experienced chef, as well as great decor with lots of artwork: altogether a delightful place and a stay that was too short. Very humble

The people there are very nice and friendly. The accommodation place located in a beautiful view.
The problem is full of bugs and insects. there is no air conditioning. At night there is a noise of the dogs and other creatures in the area

This hotel STOLE my money!!!

I am very very very very angry and disappointed with this hotel and it's management and probably even worse feel totally let down by Expedia who I have various accounts with and an agency I use to book most of my travel and accommodation to destinations all over the World.
Jamaica can be quite a volatile place and the crime rate inboxed certain areas, especially in Montego Bay, which is the area this particular so called \"retreat/hotel\" is located in has probably the highest murder statistics in the entire Island of Jamaica.
Online the pictures shown of the accommodation was very enticing and sadly having not been able to see either the physical building or physical location when booking online I went by the pics displayed online and forked out in excess of £900.00 for a week's stay at this mis-sold advertised property only to find when we got there the property was not fit for our purpose, the roads were inadequate, street lights non-existent and the distance from mainroad concsiderable and therefore not safe for us to travel to and fro especially after dusk inn the evenings. Who goes on a vacation to just be stuck in a house? Therefore WE DID NOT FEEL SAFE staying there and called Expedia immediately on arrival to state this, since that time we have NOT had a satisfactory solution nor our money back and had too find money we did not budget for to stay elsewhere, thus curtailing monies we had budgeted for going out, etc. NOT HAPPY!!!!!

The staff was wonderful, the food was great. The Guesthouse has beautiful views of the beach and gardens, it was very quite and relaxing. Some rooms does not have air, I had to pay more money for an ac room!! All rooms should have ac in them. It's too hot not to have an ac room!! The shower head in my room did not work, I had to take it off! Overall my stay was wonderful.

The Sky is the LIMIT is an understatement

My wife and I were beyond lucky to have stumbled upon this Guest House, located on the hillside on an off the beaten path rain forest overlooking Falmouth Jamaica. Compared to the island style lodging, this is Heaven!! The structure is a jewel in the rough, the interior reveals the Houses character and body and I can NOT say enough about our stay, our host, the management, the staff, the food that was prepared for us, the view, the hospitality and I LOVE THE WHOLE PRODUCTION!!!

THIS HOTEL IS FALSELY ADVERTISED!

The hotel looks nothing like the photos on the Orbitz website. There are large mounds of dirt and gravel surrounding hotel. This is a bait and switch- very unsafe neighborhood and is not located with a view of the bay as described. The place is situated right in between regular houses in very dark wooded hills with dirt roads and no lighting! dangerous location.

This b&b was brill. Its a bit of walk to the nearest beach but you can always ask the hotel staff to drive there and pick you up.The rooms are huge. Theres a games room and pool. even a hot tub. Staff were excellent an made you feel really welcome. Well done.

Very peaceful area, homely.

Very good facilities, spacious rooms. Felt at ease from the first night, having arrived after dark. Totally enjoyed our seven nights stay. Staff very willing to assist and was helpful in ensuring we were informed about places to visit. One bonus which we truly appreciated was the on-site transportation which we fully utilised to access local points of interest and to go to the airport at 3 a.m on our departure.

Quaint hotel, on the outskirts of Falmouth.

No air conditioning which was disappointing. We went at the end of July/beginning of August, so was terribly hot and humid. The staff catered to your every need; very friendly people. You need a car to get anywhere as you out in the countryside. Very peaceful and quiet retreat, and the scenery is breathtaking!

We only stayed one night at this hotel but we had such a good experience. Rooms are nice, roomy and clean. The bathrooms are big and roomy. Beautiful view on the bay and very friendly staff including the owner. They can provide transportation from and to the airport/port. And if you want a nice breakfast they can provide that too.

Lovely guest house. Great staff and very clean. Unfortunately there is an additional charge to use the air conditioning and it's not cheap. Also it's in a residential area close to a good beach but a bit too far to walk if you're not used to the heat. Other than that I enjoyed a 4 night stay here.

Lovely place for rest and relaxation

We arrived at the hotel quite tired from traveling. The owner and her assistant welcomed us in a friendly manner and provided a quick lunch although we arrived a little before the normal check in time. The room was excellent. We had several meals there and the food was very tasty. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation.

It was a nice stay, pictures online a true reflection of what you find. Keno was very pleasant and helpful. Place clean the only negative, there is no AC but when windows are open with fan its pleasant as there is always a nice breeze. Would stay there again.

If you like B&Bs, maybe. Hidden costs.

I am giving this hotel an overall disappointing rating due to the lack of transparency about rooms and costs. First of all, there are a small amount of bedrooms, this functions as a B&B type place, not a hotel in my opinion. Even though it said when I booked on Expedia that a continental breakfast is included it IS NOT. We only asked for coffee( as we are not big breakfast eaters), and when I asked for some juice( which was cranberry cocktail) we were charged $5 on our bill. Some of the rooms are air conditioned and some are not. We were given a room that was not air conditioned but had a balcony and a larger King Size bed. It was VERY hot so we asked for an air conditioned room and were given one at an additional $30. This room had no balcony and a smaller bed so in my opinion this should've been an even \" trade\" for the AC, but it was not. Red Stripes in the bar area downstairs were $5. Really?!!! This is our third trip to Jamaica and have never paid anywhere close to $5 for a Red Stripe. $2-$3 is more typical and the cost is about $7 for a six pack in the grocery store. There is nowhere else close by to buy anything so really you are at the mercy of what they have to offer.

On a positive note the rooms are very clean and comfortable and Joyce is very nice to speak with.The view is lovely and there is a nice pool.

Joyce, the owner, was extremely hospitable and accommodating. She cooked us an excellent dinner and breakfast and drove us down to the lagoon and back when we wanted to experience the phosphorescence. She also drove us down to catch the bus. This is a true retreat - it is a little out of the way but is peaceful and quiet and has magnificent views. The building is airy and spacious and the room size is very large with plenty of space for clothes and suitcases.

Home away from home!

Loved my stay here!! Everything was immaculate and the staff were so friendly. I felt totally safe as a solo female traveler, and well taken care of. The food was amazing- yummy home cooked meals three times a day at whenever was convenient for me. I also appreciated the rides to town and help with how to get around. Will totally stay here again!

A Gem

A wonderful, luxurious, off the beaten path place to stay full of local flavor. Would highly recommend partaking in the meals and the coffee is great too. I have stayed at many different types of places around the world over the years, from 1 star backpackers hovels to 5 star luxury resorts; this place is truly special and unique, a must for a truly memorable experience with good proximity to Falmouth, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.

Not at all what it seems...definitely best avoided

Map shown as to its location from the sea is deceiving. It is NOT within walking distance to the sea; Stray dogs barking opposite the guesthouse morning & night; Guesthouse advertises free breakfast, wifi, spa bath tub, cable tv, jacuzzi. Reality is very different. Breakfast only free if it is 'continental' which the owner Joyce, only provides as toast & tea/coffee. Alternative is Jamaican breakfast at $10 charge. Owner failed to mention the 2 breakfasts on offer, one free one not. She encouraged us in having the Jamaican breakfast without mentioning the free 'continental'; Wi-fi non-existent. Only location where it was received (poorly) was dining area; spa bath tub in the bedroom broken; garden jacuzzi switched off. Owner stated it is too expensive to fill when there are only a few guests at the hotel and refused to put it on; very poor TV/cable reception in the bedroom; Shower head holder broken and water emitted from it very poor; Toilet kept running after being flushed; Owner wanted to charge extra for me wanting to pay by card as opposed to cash for additional hotel bills; Electrical 'live' wire in the bedroom lamp was sticking out which had the danger of electrocution. Only spotted when looking as to why the lamp was not switching on. Owner did nothing to rectify the problem; Extra charge for a/c to be switched on in the bedroom; No kettle in bedroom for drinks. A flask of hot water was provided as an alternative! Take my advise you're better off in a standard hotel.

DEFINITELY A RETREAT

THE RETREAT GUEST HOUSE WAS A NICE CHANGE FROM THE HOTEL EXPERIENCE. OUR ROOM WAS NICE AND BRIGHT, WITH A BIG BATHROOM AND A BALCONY. YOU COULD SEE FOR MILES AND THE VIEW WAS GREAT. THE MEALS WE HAD WERE GREAT BUT INCLUDE THEM IN THE PRICE UP FRONT. MS JOYCE, MARLENA AND THE OTHER RESIDENTS WERE GREAT AND IT WAS NICE GETTING TO KNOW THEM.

A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT WOULD HAVE MADE IT A FABULOUS STAY AIR CONDITIONING IN THE ROOM IT WAS SO HOT AND FANS WERE NOT ENOUGH (BUT THEY WERE WORKING ON THAT) IT'S A LITTLE REMOTE FROM PLACES TO EAT/SEE/DO. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF SOME ACTIVITIES WERE SUGGESTED OR OFFERED. THE BROCHURES JUST DIDINT PROVIDE ENOUGH INFO AND WE DIDNT HAVE USE OF A PHONE TO MAKE A LOT OF CALLS.

The Retreat Guesthouse turned out to be an absolutely wonderful choice. While a little out of the way (hence the name Retreat), it is really only a 15 minute walk to the public beach which was beautiful. And, the proprietor treated us like guests in her home, including terrific home cooking. We had a relaxing week and are already planning our next visit! Highly recommended for couples and families alike!

Acceptable; not Luxurious; No Free Breakfast

First night I spent several hours killing flying insects attracted to the lights.
Windows had been left open and had both torn and no screens.
Free insect repellent was provided, but if I had been traveling with a friend, they probably would have been upset enough to leave the location.
Comfortable mattress, but prefer sheets that are less like blankets and smoother.
Pillows were excellent but the TV never worked correctly.
Shower head needs to be replaced; the toilet never worked correctly; needs new chain, plug, and handle.
Sink faucet sprays water and needs cleaned or repaired.
Breakfast was not included; the coffee was excellent but the hostess wanted everything paid for extra, including a piece of toast, sandwich and Skype call home when I arrived.
Curtains in room were torn and need replaced.
I wouldn't call this a luxury bed and breakfast, especially since it didn't include breakfast free.
Dinner would be prepared if scheduled for an extra $15 fee, which I thought was too high.
I felt safe, and I was pleased that my smartphone could connect to the office wi-fi for no extra charge.
I chose to stay elsewhere one night without a refund.
Having to pay the full amount for the seven night reservation was unusual, as well.
Had I not chosen to stay all seven nights, I'm uncertain a refund would have been granted.
Location of the house was extremely difficult to find and directions from the airport were not provided, or totally accurate concerning the distance from Montego Bay.

Great place--just confirm the rate before hand!

I liked this place very much for its cleanliness, location, and overall value. One caveat though. The owner and I had a misunderstanding as to the rate due to changes made in the number of people that would be staying and she upped the rate to an amount that was clearly much greater than the rate that was quoted by Expedia for that number of people. Unfortunately, I did not discover her error until I had already left the premises. Check carefully before you arrive what you will be paying and make sure it conforms with the advertised rates.
