Lovely place to stay in Sasso Barisano! Access was a bit tricky for older folks with heavy cases, but you have to expect stairs (and lots of them) in Matera. Beautifully renovated, spacious and well equipped room. Comfortable bedding and sofa. Nice continental breakfast was supplied.

Hotel and Matera were amazing however the breakfast was not great and service was lacking took an entire day to get back to us about the spa (they were checking availability” to then tell us it was out of order. Also told me it was impossible to get cab to the hotel which was also incorrect

Perfect one night stay in the center of Sassy. The room was amazing! Big tub, nicely decorated, and great view. Friendly staff, very helpful when trying to reach the place.

Note: bathroom space is visible. Water bottles would have been a nice especially given the warm weather.

Simply amazing stay in Matera. Modern, comfortable, fully reimagined sassi- it was even better than it looked! The hotel provided very helpful parking and bus instructions, and were super friendly. Breakfast was delicious. Definitely recommend!

Hotel was great. Hotel stated they sent me a message through What’s up App not to drive to the hotel because it is in a restricted area and you are required to have authorization to drive in the area. I don’t have the what’s up app so I was unaware of the restriction and received a traffic citation.

Unforgettable experience!

Amazing experience! Not only the place is amazing (it is a suite built in the rocks=sasso) but the genuine concern for the guests begins even before the arrival (they contacted in advance providing information and giving alternatives for parking as the hotel is in a restricted traffic zone). Owner and team are very nice and approachable.

Great stay in a grotto. The staff was great, excellent location in the old town of Matera and the breakfast was superb. I wish the Wi-Fi was better and the room did have a musky odor from being a cave but all in all a great experience.

I would rate this hotel 10 stars if I could! The staff were absolutely lovely, and contacted us via WhatsApp the day prior to our stay to give us parking instruction, which was very helpful! The hotel itself is absolutely stunning, and the breakfast spread was excellent. Matera is a stunning city, with wonderful locals and great dining options and bars. Possibly my favourite spot visited in Puglia.

The cave room was incredible - one of our favorite rooms we've stayed in with a nice shower, huge tub and nice amenities. The patio outside offered a wonderful view. We loved Matera and will definitely stay here again if we return.

Amazing lodging in an unforgettable city

Exceptional rooms in a boutique hotel in an incredible location, at walking distance to every point of the old city. The contrast between the ancient location and exterior, the feat of building upon an old cave that has to remain nevertheless intact, the refined interiors with state-of-the-art furniture and facilities: Italian design at its best. Delicious breakfast that can be enjoyed outside. Elisabetta is a delight to deal with, and Nico directed us to an excellent restaurant: La Gatta Buia, where we fell in love with the fried peperoni cruschi.

We spent 2 nights here. The inn appears to be run by two sisters one of which reached out to us immediately after the booking to communicate some details about parking, etc and her English was great. She reached out again a day or two before our arrival again to ask for our car details and said that there was a valet who would take the car if we came directly to inn. We arrived and had a lot of trouble finding it as it is tucked upstairs off the Main Street and had to lug out suitcases up 2 flights of stairs. The second sister was there and her English was not great at all. The room was very nicely appointed and very clean. However we could not get the fan to work properly and there is no one who stays on the property to address questions to. The second night i went out to ask about a dinner reservation And the second sister was on the phone talking to her sister about what she was making for dinner and left me standing there for close to five minutes- the. she seemed very put out and told me we didn't need one. The restaurant turned out to be quite crowded. Check out was also a bit of a let down as us and another couple both hard cars with the parking company. The second sister called them and then left the property before they arrived and we had no contact information for the car company. it was all a bit disappointing.

Exceptional hotel in one of the most interesting of cities. The rooms are incredible: very spacious with stunning cave accents, modern interiors, and very comfortable. The views from the terraces which all rooms open out onto is stunning. The buffet breakfast is generous and absolutely delicious, lots of local specialities to try. All the staff are super friendly and helpful.

Park your car with the valet service they recommend and be driven into the Sassi, you won't need your car while you're there. The city is a warren of streets and stairs, a lot of stairs, to explore. We were there in October and at night, when the Sassi is lit up, it's magical and almost deserted, perfect for wandering around pre dinner.

Highly recommend this gem of a hotel.

Matera is a must see, and La Dimora di Metello is a gem. I will start with the one thing that could be a drawback and that could be the 35 stairs that must be climbed to enter. But then, I don't know where in Matera you would find less stairs as it is definitely a walking city. So going up from there... the rooms are contemporary, but have retained much of the historic cave as possible. The architects did an amazing job. Matera has not been discovered yet, but watch out for 2019 when it will explode with coverage. Breakfast is included here and it is not your usual spread... coffee of your choice is made with care and home baked items are displayed beautifully.
Elizabeth, the owner, couldn't be more charming or helpful.

Matera is wonderful; I hate to rave because it has not been inundated by the masses of tourists of some other areas of Italy but La DIMORA DI MATELLO is unique, modern, clean and Elizabetta is charming and so helpful. Her breakfast and the server are fabulous! We loved the time there.

Stunning hotel and location

Welcoming and friendly staff made our stay at this amazing hotel perfect! Our room was a spacious traditional cave room with modern and contemporary fittings blending the old and new perfectly! There was plenty of choice during the buffet breakfast, which was served on the terrace over looking the Old Town. There were lots of step stairs up to the reception area so not idea if you have any mobility problems but I think this would be the same anywhere in Matera! You can not park too close to the hotel and long term parking is a problem but the hotel offer a service where they park and re-deliver your car for you, which was a godsend! We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again ourselves if we were ever to revisit.

Stunning Accommodation, totally captivating little town.
We had the suite with a bathroom, loved the little balcony, we could lay in bed with the doors open and marvel at the surroundings. Lots of gems about this accommodation and highly recommend it.
We predominantly stay 5 star and I suggest this little gem is as good as it gets in this town for an amazingly small price!

We loved the design of the hotel and it is in a good location. Walking distance to sights and very close to good restaurants (there is one on their doorstep)
Elisabetta at the front desk was friendly, helpful and professional. Breakfast was great with lots of home made food.
Because of the unique nature of the hotel, you do need to carry your suitcases up a couple of flights of stairs

A Fabulous Fusion of Ancient and Modern

My wife and I stayed two nights at La Dimora the second week of September and loved it. It is a beautiful small hotel of only four rooms. Each room is unique with walls and ceilings carved out of volcanic rock. The furniture is custom and the furnishings, in contrast to the surroundings, are totally contemporary. The overall effect is wonderful. The beds are extremely comfortable, the bathroom great, and at night there is silence. The breakfast is excellent and the owner, Elisabetta, is a gracious and helpful host. She helped set up a private tour for us with Anna Tamburrino, of Active Tours, who gave us a great 2.5 hour tour of the Sassi. We highly recommend her. Last, but not least, La Dimora is in the heart of the Sassi, in a location that can’t be beat. If you are looking for a place to stay in Matera, this is it!

Stylish hotel in the heart of the Sassi.

Beautifully renovated rooms with exposed stonewalls, stylish furniture and lighting. Elisabetta contacted me on the morning of our arrival to offer directions and was very welcoming when we got to the hotel. The pictures don't do full justice to the care with which this hotel has been designed and cannot give a sense of the size of the rooms with their very high ceilings. The terrace outside the rooms offers a space in which to make the most of the morning and evening sun and take in some of the sights of Mates. Giovanna was friendly and helpful at breakfast, ensuring all our needs were met. We loved our stay here and would definitely return when visiting Matera again.

Exceptional Cave Room Experience!!

This was one of the prettiest and most unique hotel I have ever stayed at. The suite was a great value and I couldn't have been more happy with my stay! The hostess was so warm, helpful, and friendly. She really has an eye for style. The cave rooms were renovated perfectly and they looked beautiful. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

this hotel have to get 5 star rateing !!!!
the only issue is the car parking. you can't park the car near the hotel becouse this is the low in this historical site
you have to park near the center ( 15 euro for 24 hrs of parking ) and walk bace to the hotel walking take 7 min but you are enjoying this walk between all the nice historical site )
for sure that i will send frinds to this hotel!!!

World-Class Hotel in Matera

La Dimora di Metello has only been open for 6 months, but I think it has a long and successful run ahead of it. This is a world-class hotel in arguably the most interesting small city in the world. The proprietor, Elisabetta, is elegant and charming and could not have been more helpful, making recommendations and reservations for meals and offering her availability to her guests at any time., The place itself is spotless and of fine italian high design, which is a wonderful contrast to the surrounding sassi neighborhood. Don't hesitate to book here, but understand that it will be very difficult to tear yourself away from the included breakfast buffet each morning!

Probably the most stylish hotel in Matera.

Elisabeth is a great host, being friendly and helpful all the time. We tried one of the restaurant she recommended us \"La Gatta Buia\" we love the dishes so much, don't miss out the appetizer or snacks-like crispy peppers.
The room is at tip top condition, a stylish room with comfy bed in an ancient city, we love the interior and location of this hotel. Waking up in the morning, sitting in the terrance, enjoy the view that the city has to offer!
Breakfast is another highlight, wide selection to choose from, the staff are so friendly keep asking us is there anything else we need, and the cappuccino is nicely brewed too!

What a great location and atmosphere

Everything we were hoping for, and more. A very cool place to stay. The furnishings were simple, but modern and practical. The lighting was cleverly done, and the heating was not too hot, unlike many places we have been in. The bathroom designer style, although if being picky the shower head was a waterfall type and was tricky to master. The bed was large and comfortable. Breakfast was amazing for the size of the hotel. The owners were very helpful and friendly, and assisted us even when we arrived several hours early. The location was perfect for us, with limited stairs to navigate, unlike most places in the Sassi, which made lugging bags up easier. The balconies in front of the rooms also had good elevated views.

Fantastisk sted og overnatte hvis du skal til Matera. Hotellet ligger midt i gamlebyen og er et perfekt utgangspunkt for sightseeing. Bil må parkeres utenfor gamlebyen.

All the things were great, except that the check out arrangement were terrible. The staff supposed to arrange a shuttle bus for us to go back the car park. However, the staff didn't tell us and did not answer the phone, when the shuttle is arrived. So we missed the shuttle and the outside temperature is over 35 degree , so we have to find our way back to the car park.

Abbiamo scelto questa struttura in virtu della presenza della spa.
Purtroppo all arivo ci è stato comunicato che la stessa dato l orario era chiusa.
La mattinata successiva ci è stato comunicato che la struttura sta eliminando la vasca e che quindi non vi era disponibilità in qualsiasi orario.
Mentre per gli altri servizi era necessaria una prenotazione.
Se la descrizione on line fosse stata piu \"chiara\" probabilmente non avremmo svelto la struttura anche a causa della possibilità del parcheggio (ad almeno 15 min a piedi di distanza)

2 dagen van tevoren kregen we een appje dat we de kamer die we geboekt hadden niet konden krijgen en dat we een kamer zouden krijgen in het naastgelegen Thymus hotel. Gelukkig was dit ook een erg mooi hotel en een prachtige kamer en fijn personeel. Het enige wat wel jammer was, was dat deze kamer niet het mooie bad had, die de kamer die we geboekt hadden wel had.
