We had a great stay, all the staff were very polite and attentive, answered all our questions about the area and also very informative about the food and wines they were serving, we were very pleasantly with the service the location and the condition of the hotel, unfortunately we were not there long enough to sample the spa but did get a tour from the young lady at the spas reception who explained everything. A wonderful experience cant fault it.

Staff at the hotel were great. We stayed 2 nights and it was very hot. Unfortunately the air con can’t cool the old building when it is this hot. So room was quite warm. Staff provided fans. Also jacuzzi pool is not complementary. Lovely old building though, easy to find etc.

The property was lovely and great location. Staff were exemplary. Two areas for improvement - the wifi connection was inconsistent and not easy to connect to. Also we believed there was an outdoor pool based on the website description and were disappointed to learn it was only for the suite.

The property is amazing and some of the staff are first class professionals, keen to look after you. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience when a personal possession went missing from a bag in my room. So far the hotel has failed to retrieve my item or work out who had access to the room to take it.

Hotel is very well located within the historic district facing on the same plaza as the Duomo (get ready for many, many staircases throughout the area). Parking (which is free) is at a sister property outside the historic area, a good 10-15 minute ride via an on-demand shuttle van. Our room, a jr. suite, had an older vibe - stone walls, older furniture but was clean and had operable windows with a view. We dined one night in the upscale hotel restaurant - food was good if not memorable. The breakfast buffet was typical of hotels of similar quality. Staff was helpful in answering questions and helping us design a walking route. Outside bar was closed during our early November visit. A good choice for a Matera visit.

The staff were dismissive and frankly rude. We arrived and we greeted with ‘you can’t park there’. A new member of staff showed us to our room who didn’t know when questioned anything about the hotel.

A room for 2 people was booked and had 2 single beds. When we requested if the beds could be pushed together they simple said no. We further questioned them and it was suddenly done.

The room only has air conditioning when. Card holder was placed in the reader in the room. Therefore in august all the rooms are I intorably hot. This is if the air conditioning even works.

We complained 4 times the AC didn’t work when the crd holder was in the room and we were told they control the temperature centrally. After a sleepless night with multiple complaints they simply said the room was not too hot and that it must be us.

Rude, dismissive and really not worth the money.

The property is great and the location is fantastic but please please don’t expect any good service and the rooms are far too hot in the summer.

Avoids like the plague.

A short luxury break

The Palazzo Gattini is very centrally located and close to the cathedral. The view from the roof terrace is stunning! Breakfast was very good indeed, particularly the fresh orange juice and eggs cooked to order. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Although we didn't eat dinner in the hotel (preferring to experience what Matera had to offer), I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a short luxury break.

Wow .,. Exceptional on every level

Exceptional ... from the moment we got picked up from the station and during the whole stay. The hotel is truly beautiful and nothing has been left overlooked. Was fortunate enough to be able to use the private pool and sauna and it was something I will remember forever. We had pre dinner drinks on the terrace and the view of the sassi at night is breathtaking. My only regret is that we did not make a reservation for dinner on the terrace and they were fully booked. Definitely next time as I will be back. Grazie millie per tutto xx.
Ps: I can truly understand why they won best hotel of the year in 2018 ... well done!!!

Great hotel

I have been to over 50 countries, always traveling 1st class. This hotel and stay is at the top of my list. The area of Matera is extraordinary, get a guide through the hotel, ask for MICHAEL. I had a physical problem which caused us to cut our trip short. The woman at the desk arranged, for the return of our rental, transportation to the nearest airport (Bari) air plane to Milan, hotel in Milan and travel back to Miami,while all we did was go to lunch and agree to stay one more night in Matera

Nice hotel in beautiful square. Being refurbished on the outside. I was there in very early May and the weather was nice. Nice enough that the aircon in the room should have been able to lower the temperature below 19 deg. Sadly this wasn't the case and my night wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped. Also the shower in the room couldn't decide to flay my skin or freeze my bones. I mentioned both things to the receptionist.........

The air-conditioning did not function (it is centrally controlled). Impossible to sleep without it. I am under the impression that even if it did, the unit is too small for the room. Night clerk unable to do anything about it on the excuse that her computer could not log on. When speaking to staff the next morning requesting not to be billed for a sleepless night, they advised they could not do anything and assured me that they would have the manager call me. No one ever called. Lousy service for a hotel that is by far the most expensive in town.

We had difficulty finding Palazzo Gattini as there are few signs, but the moment we stepped inside we knew our 2 night stay would be special. Theresa welcomed us as if we were royalty......we were immediately given upgraded rooms (we were 2 couples)......they were large, had every amenity, even the drinks in the mini bar were complimentary......breakfast with Pina the next morning was awesome! She proudly did a tour of the 5 food stations and then took our individual orders for eggs, omelettes etc.......she made us her specialty......toast, spread with the freshest ricotta cheese and covered with orange honey.......what a delicacy! Theresa, our host, had arranged a charming, informative guide, Michele, for us.......what a fascinating tour we had for almost 3 hours in a town that must be seen to be believed. Truly unique! Easy to see why Matera has been designated as Unesco site and cultural city of the year in Europe in 2019. Palazzo Gattini lives up to its 5 stars and more!
One more important plus......once you park the car, you explore the streets and hidden passageways on foot.

Beautiful hotel in heart of Matera

Delightful small, quiet hotel in centre of Matera. Great for exploring this amazing town. Easier to find than we expected, and car parking service is good.
Hotel is a maze, with lots of stairs so not good for those with poor mobility. Rooms were fabulous. We didn't want to leave. Breakfast was fantastic with brilliant service. Restaurant was however closed (due to holiday!?) and reception staff a bit overwhelmed.

Make sure you contact the hotel to get directions, the area is heavily pedestrianised but well worth getting there. Unobtrusive entrance belies the understated grandeur within. Excellent, sympathetic modernisation has created a hidden gem. My only small gripe would be the lack of control of the air conditioning which was controlled by the reception desk. Breakfast was an added bonus.

Phone the hotel to get directions as your sat nav may take you to completely the wrong place. But when you arrive it is fabulous. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to a junior suite at check-in. The hotel is steeped in history but has been stylishly renovated. The view from our terrace was beautiful. Breakfast is fantastic. The hotel is centrally located. We booked a guide at reception and would recommend that. We could not fault anything.

5 Star in the heart of Matera

Probably the best experience my wife and I had during our two week stay in Italy. This marks the first time while traveling in Italy that a hotel actually exceeded my expectations. The hotel is in the heart of the Sassi or cultural historic district, finding it initially was a bit tough, but the locals were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooms are spectacular, clean, and modern, some are built out of the existing caves in the surrounding hillside. This place is well worth the price, if you are in Matera you need to try this place out!

Lovely hotel set on top of the Matera hill right next to the main church, Staff upgraded my room for no cost because there was some minor building work outside the building crating early morning noise. They advanced the start of breakfast to 6.30 am to accomodate my early taxi to the airport.
Wonderful location for seeing the city - be ready to walk up and down the main two or three hills many times.

Absolutely Perfect!!

Palazzo Gattini was the highlight of our around the world adventure. Located in the Sassi in Matera you simply could not fault the location, the staff, the room or the amazing roof top terrace where we enjoyed dinner on our last night. We simply parked the car in the garage and walked everywhere! Our suite overlooked the Piazza Duomo with french doors and a small balcong where you could enjoy the view over the sassi at night before walking down the streets to one of the many restaurants close by. Italian lifestyle at it's best - we could not have asked for more!!!

Magnificent hotel in magnificent Matera

The hotel is not easy to find if one is driving because Matera is a difficult city in which to navigate; since the difficulty is due to the city's magnificent situation this cannot be a cause for complaint. Both the city and the hotel are well worth the trouble.

It is hard to fault the Palazzo Gattini. It is very beautiful; our room was impeccable and very comfortable; all advice given to us was good. Evening aperitifs took some time to arrive, but while the barman was not experienced he went to a lot of trouble to get our order just right. It came with a lovely plate of prosciutto and cheese - which we discovered on receiving our bill next day had been quite expensive: not a problem, but they should have let us know. Breakfast was irreproachable. Advice sought on places to eat - a very simple snack for lunch and a dinner in a local restaurant among the sassi - was first class, with directions to both places also clearly given. It was good to hand the car over to the care of the hotel for a reasonable charge: cars are not good in this part of Matera.

I cannot recommend either Matera or the Palazzo Gattini too highly.

It's a real trick to navigate the one way streets to get to Palazzo Gattini, but well worth the effort. Sitting on a hill next to the Duomo, the hotel has excellent views of the surrounding town, and is a quick walk to the center of Matera. Our Jr. Suite had a step down bedroom with a gorgeous 5'x6' bathtub separate from the large bathroom. In-house restaurant and spa are a treat.

Det är få ord som egentligen behövs.
Underbart, vackert och ljuvligt!
Mannen som körde oss från parkeringen var så hjälpsam och berättade om hotellet och Matera.
Receptionen var också oerhört vänliga och hjälpsamma.
När vi fick rummet 210 med egen liten pool ville vi inte lämna rummet för att se Matera. Ett rum så vackert och med ett lugn och en utsikt som var magisk.
Tack för en toppenupplevelse med som vi aldrig kommer glömma.
Tack till restaurangen som vi njöt en middag på. Underbara smaker!

Spa très agréable et service voiturier et efficace. Seul bémol: la salle du petit déjeuner et le petit déjeuner bon mais assez simple- ne sont pas à la hauteur d’un 5 étoiles.

Bellissima struttura in posizione molto comoda per raggiungere tutti i punti più interessanti di Matera. Offrono un comodo servizio navetta per il parcheggio esterno di proprietà. Stanze molto gradevoli ed eleganti. Terrazzo panoramico che sovrasta i sassi. Buona la proposta culinaria.

Magnificent location and hotel comfort

Excellent hotel with high degree of service and focus on costumer experience! Beautiful hotel in historical old surroundings. Great breakfast. Location was magnificent in the center for an amazing city - we will be back for sure! Had some issues finding the hotel, google maps showed us in the wrong direction, but it’s on the hilltop next to the church. No pool but sister hotel has a pool we could borrow. The hotel can help with parking and transport.

Peut faire tellement mieux pour le prix!

Séjour correct, l'hôtel n'a pas rempli toutes ces promesses avec un Spa inaccessible, un rooftop bar qui a malheureusement été inaccessible pour boire un verre lors du coucher de soleil, une baignoire '' balneo '' avec laquelle on nous explique que les buses ne sont pas raccordées et pour enfoncer le clou une climatisation sous dimensionnée...
Globalement déçu par cet hôtel, heureusement que l'emplacement est idéal !
