Fantastic hotel with great views
We had a fabulous time at Palazzo Viceconte. The views from the room and from the roof terrace are simply stunning, and the staff were very welcoming and generous. We got engaged while we were there and they even gave us a free bottle of Prosecco! We will definitely be back.

The palace is incredible and has kept the original ceiling painting and furnishings seem totally authentic. There is endless space to enjoy around the palace. Breakfast was ok our first day but very poor the second. No cheese, no bacon, when we arrived 45 minutes after opening. Ice cold scrambled eggs like they had come out of a fridge. This is an incredible property in an incredible location. The art and space like out of a film set. We felt like we were the only people in this remarkable palazzo. Some of the furniture a bit worn but who cares given the setting. Highly recommend. And get a room with a view, totally worth it.

This Palazzo is a gem, a wonderful find in a great city. Know that you will be dropped off with a short walk to the entrance. The staff were GREAT, so helpful. The breakfast was standard fare - but well done and in a opulent setting. The artwork throughout the hotel makes you feel like you are staying in a gallery, and the views from the terrace (day and night) are worth the stay.

What a fantastic hotel right in the centre of matera. The rooms were wonderful and the staff very helpful. A word to drivers getting tit he hotel can be a little stressful as the roads are very narrow and confusing. The restricted zone signage is the worst but ignore it as the hotel sorts the issue out with local police.

Very unique to be staying in an ancient cave dwelling. Modern appointments were very comfortable. The space was large and luxurious.
I would not recommend getting a room here with a jacuzzi. The water made to room very humid. The tub water was not hot enough to enjoy. The circulation system was noisy and could not be turned off - it was on a timer. The tub and water smelled bad. Instead choose a room without a pool or a jacuzzi tub. Soaker tubs are much nicer.

宮殿だった建物を改装したホテル（他の人も書いているように、朝食会場へ続く回廊はまるで美術館のよう）で、とても快適に滞在できました。今回はジュニアスイートに泊まりましたが、部屋は２人にはもったいないくらい広く、バスタブも付いていました。我々の部屋からはカヴェオーソ地区のサッシがよく見えましたが、ジュニアスイートでもサッシが見えない部屋もあるので、サッシビューの部屋を希望する場合はあらかじめリクエストする必要があります。
やや不満だった点は、部屋に湯沸し器がなかったことと、せっかくバスタブが付いているのにお湯が風呂に溜めてつかるのにはギリギリの温度までしか熱くならなかったことです（冬だとお湯につかるにはちょっと厳しい感じです）。

Beautiful hotel, aircon great and was needed. Breakfast not the best choice although the coffee was great. Staff excellent. No bar or restaurant but loads nearby. Superb views from the roof top terrace.

Dejligt hotel som ligger midt i det gamle Matera så det er dejligt nemt at komme rundt, da hotellet er midt i byen. Fantastisk kæmpe værelse fik vi med udsigt ud over grotterne. Og det er nemmere at komme til hotellet end vi troede - GPS’en førte os lige til døren. Morgenmaden kunne godt trænge til en opgradering var meget kedelig.

Great stay. Parking available on the property. Called the hotel when I arrived in Matera and the hotel rep guided me to the property and parked my car in the courtyard. Room was great, and the property was beautiful. Within easy walking distance to the main duomo, and the rest of the sassi.

As \"palace hotels\" go, this one is only middling. The architecture is fairly bland. Our room was mostly hard floors and hard walls. Compare the roomful of art you get at Castle Ivrea near Valle d'Aosta (NW Italy), or compare the Schloss Hirschorn above the Nekkar River in Germany--both of those are far more impressive. And you have to drive through a lot of pedestrian-only narrow streets to get there by car. We parked below the town (only 100 yds from the hotel), but the online map didn't show that the connecting trail was a set of super-steep, long stone staircases. So carrying suitcases up is a no go. I absolutely will not stay there again. Wonderful people, though. Oh, and the breakfast was disappointing--a lot of food there but not much of it we could eat. Has nobody heard of whole grains?

Amazing stay! The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are a decent size, and ours had a beautiful view of the Stassi. The 1st floor where breakfast is served, is a beautifully preserved palatial residence with some gorgeous paintings. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. The hotel is a short walk to all the sights and in a lovely part of town. The only difficulty is finding the place, and driving through those narrow streets but the hotel staff were very helpful and guided us, on the phone, right to the hotel door.

It's really difficult hotel to arrive at!
Palazzo Viceconte is one of the laxurist and attractive hotel in Matera. They are next to Matera Duomo, top of the hill, and they have very good scenery view from their terrace. I had stayed junior suit with lovery terrace, the room has butch tab, twin sink and double bed. One of the most remarkable event in the hotel was breakfast. The dining room located at first floor, when you go there with an elavater, you have to walk through 4 beautiful room. They are all small but really beautiful rooms with lots of fancy paintings. Also breakfast was fabulous one I have ever had. They don't have dinner service but lots of fancy restaurant at Matera, reasonable price in comparison with that of other Italian famous city like Florence, Venezia. When you want to go to Palazzo Viceconte from Alberobello like me, the traffic are terrible for Alberobello's

We stayed here for 3 nights in September. The hotel is centrally located next to the cathedral in a beautiful Palazzo. Our suite was spacious and lovely. Breakfast was very good. Car parking is done for you, but is expensive (20 Euros per night). Matera is awesome- a most interesting and unusual town

This is a beautifully redone palace. The rooms are large by European standards. The staff is very helpful. Domaino was so helpful and pleasant and always smiling. He gave a good history lesson on the palace including history of Matra. He was helpful with dinner suggestions and reservation. Order taxis, he made our stay very pleasant.

Such a nice hotel, quiet & calm space in a busy little town. Staff were wonderful & went the extra mile. The hotel is hard to find with a GPS (& streets are narrow) so our advice would be to park in a public car park, walk to the hotel (behind the cathedral) & get a map from reception. It's easy once you do this! Parking in the hotel is €20 per night but much cheaper than public parking so well worth it. They have a roof terrace which could be better utilized as a bar/restaurant. Would stay again

Unbelievable experience. The hotel is one of my all time favourites, being a former palace renovated with a fantastic eye to details. The staff was very friendly and helpsom, and the city itself is of course also an experience by itself. The only thing I would wish for is to have a spremuta for breakfast, what Italians consider \"orange juice\" (Succo) is simply not drinkable.

A genuine palace with several public rooms decorated in authentic regional style. Rooms outstandingly appointed, breakfast limited in scope but beautifully presented. Hotel misses an opportunity by making little use of the outstanding space on the roof terrace - sparsely furnished with little opportunity made of the opportunity to offer drinks in the most atmospheric of surroundings. The views of the surrounding cave dwellings from the terrace are surely unsurpassed locally.

A real palace
Such is the layout of the hotel, it can seem like you are the only one staying there. Right on top of the hill next to the cathedral, the hotel is well placed for a walk into town, and if you have the legs, a walk down the steps to the Sassi. The rooms were excellent, and the walk to breakfast was like being in a stately home. Breakfast excellent too.

One of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed at. Restored Palazzo next to the hill top Duomo in the Sassi with fantastic views over the old city and the canyons. Rooms were spacious, very tastefully decorated in keeping with the beauty of the building, and also up to date with thoughtful touches such as heated floors.
Only minor ding with the hotel was breakfast, with no hot service, and where the service was a bit indifferent. But it was in a beautiful setting which helped compensate.
To get to this fantastic location, you have to find the hotel. There is no signage anywhere except in front of the hotel. The ONLY way to get the hotel by car is to get to the piazza in front of the Sassi Duomo, and follow a narrow stone road 50 meters or so off the piazza, wherer the hotel will be on the left (Parking 20 Euro per day). GOOGLE MAPS DIRECTIONS ARE WRONG (as of December 2014)--you will not get to the hotel with its directions (and even if you correct for the fact it has you go the wrong way down a one way street it will leave you at the bottom of a hill maybe 200 steps and several turns below the hotel). Also beware digital and paper maps often don't distinguish clearly between pedestrian walkways with stairs from streets that can take cars.

We fell in love with the Palazzo Viceconte. The service & location were outstanding and our Junior Suite was spacious and elegant. The bathroom was very large and we even had a walk in closet. The view from our room was breathtaking of the Sassi and though we had a litle difficulty navigating to some of the restaurants suggested, we managed to do so and our dinners were lovely! We had only booked our room for two nights but asked to stay longer because we fell in love with the area and the Palazzo but unfortunately they were sold out. My husband had been unwell for a few days before arriving in Matera and after another day there, I asked the front desk to help make arrangements to see a local doctor. Within the hour, Mrs. Viceconte herself brought a doctor to our room. Since the doctor spoke no English and we spoke no Italian, she translated and soon we were on our way to the pharmacy with a prescription. When we checked out the next day, everyone inquired after my husband's health. They were like family after only a few days! We have been traveling for over five weeks now, mostly to new areas of Italy that we had not been - Matera was one of our absolute favorites and the Palazo Viceconte helped make it so!!

The Viceconte is a super elegant hotel very close to all of Matera's sights. It was easy to find once we programmed our GPS to walking mode, but would have been nearly impossible without that. Our room was sophisticated and stocked with 2 free water bottles, but it was very dim (our main floor room overlooked the courtyard and so did not have views). Another potential disadvantage for some people (not us) were the stone steps leading up to the bed on both sides. In the night, with the dark room, this could be a drawback for some people. The breakfast was fabulous and I fell in love with the strazzate cookies, which were the best (and for which I am having a hard time finding a recipe!). We loved walking to the breakfast room because that is how this place really felt like a palace to us. Very lovely place!

This is the second time I have had the pleasure of staying at this lovely place. I absolutely can say that hands down it is the best place I have ever stayed. Not only the accommodating staff but also the pure beauty of this magnificent hotel. We stayed in a suite and it was spacious, extremely clean, and overall just fantastic. We did encounter one issue, the wifi in our room wouldn't work because the signal wasn't strong enough. Within 5 minutes of letting the front desk know about this issue, a man with a router for our room was knocking on our door. NOW THAT'S SERVICE! Perfect location, perfect customer service, just plain PERFECTION.

We travelled through Italy for 2 weeks and this was our favorite hotel. Best quality-price ratio you can get. Use the parking at the hotel, totally worth the 20euros a night as parking is a real hassle in Matera. Extraordinary views from the rooftop terrace. Good breakfast with gluten-free options. Really comfortable and pretty room. Awesome location. Top notch service from the staff, especially the lady at the Reception Desk. We loved it and warmly recommend you stay there if you go to Matera.

Vi stannade en natt i Matera och valde detta lite finare hotell, dels pga prisvärde (Jag hade en bonusnatt att använda) och dels pga av läget med utsikt och takterrass.
Rummen var jättefina och lägen fenomenalt. Lite knepigt att ta sig till och det var trångt med hyrbilen genom porten.
Vi fick mycket god service och frukosten i det mäktiga rummet var god. Tyvärr var service och utbud i tak-baren lite begränsat men utsikten runt om över staden och ravinen fenomenal. Ena rummets hade dålig luftkonditionering men personalen försökte rätta till det och bad om ursäkt för problemet.
