Everything about Quina Jardins do Logo is excellent. The it was only our second stay and we were welcomed like old friends. The gardens are wonderful. The breakfasts set you up for the day and the atmosphere feels relaxed all the time. Rooms are well apointed and always spotless. We wanted to book for next year before we left but the prices had not been released.

This is an excellent hotel, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Madeira. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, everything is extremely clean, the breakfast is delicious with lots of choice. The room was big, tastefully decorated and well equipped with a comfy bed. The hotel is set in a botanic garden that’s a wonderful oasis and so relaxing. There is a great pool and other leisure facilities. There is also a tortoise. What more could you want? Look no further - stay here!

Exceeded expectations on every front. Superb and personalised service from the moment of arrival to departure. Equivalent to the very best one could expect from the Raffles in Singapore, the Mandarin in Hong Kong, and many other gems. Nothing was obtrusive and attention was warm and friendly by everyone. Beautiful relaxing stay

Beautiful propert and grounds/gardens in particular. True 5 star, staff and service lovely - organised several trips for us.

Only thing - and it’s personal opinion - was that the menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner were not always to our taste and there were often better and cheaper options in Funchal. We tended to eat from the breakfast buffet rather than table menu which we enjoyed b much.

None of the above should dissuade you from staying there. I would say it’s one of the best hotels we’ve stayed at in the world and certainly Europe.

Wonderful hotel. The staff were helpful and accommodating. The food was superb, we were spoilt for choice at breakfast, the dinner we had at the hotel was also delicious. The shuttle bus into Funchal was a great service and when that was not on the staff would call a taxi for you.

Very special Quinta experience. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Everything we needed help to organise was dealt with efficiently. Early am taxi to depart was on the dot. Amazing botanical gardens with Tortoise! Gorgeous pool. Lovely temperature. Comfy room. Felt t like we got a taste of times gone by but with all the creature comforts of the present day. Excellent breakfast!

Absolutely beautiful hotel, with extremely pleasant and helpful staff, and fantastic food. Breakfast outside is a highlight, as are the botanical gardens in which the hotel stands. Views are very pretty of Funchal and the nearby hills. Room was lovely and spotless. The delicious food and the drink are a bit pricey, but someone's got to pay for those lovely plants. Although it's only '17 minutes' walk to Funchal centre, you wont to walk as the roads are steep and not good for walking. The hotel shuttle bus is very good but there's no evening service. You're on your own in the evening, as there are no good restaurants nearby, unless you dine in. Swimming pool is lovely and food/drink available during the day at the pool. the one local bar is just round the corner and will serve drinks and simple food for a fraction of the hotel's price. Overall, a really great hotel.

Oasis of tranquility

The location, in 14,000sq metres of botanical gardens was idyllic, beautiful to look at, walk round, sit in and lovely and peaceful. The old house has been beautifully updated and restored and the rooms are sumptuous. The staff were friendly and helpful and our whole 9 day stay was a joy.

Beautiful well maintained hotel with a tropical botanical garden right outside the door. Incredible staff. Everyone from the front desk, to the dining room, to the housekeeping services to the shuttle bus driver are friendly, helpful and quick to serve. Especially enjoyed spending time with Colombo the tortoise who lives in the garden.

A perfect stay

This is a simply beautiful hotel providing some much needed luxury and relaxation after a week of strenuous walking. We arrived early but our room was ready and we’d been upgraded. The room was spacious and very comfortable. We had a balcony with a view over the garden and some complimentary fruit and water. Breakfast was amazing and the service was very friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. Dinner was an additional cost and perhaps a little pricey but it was good. The facilities were great too - a beautiful pool with a poolside bar and lunch facility and a jacuzzi. Lots of loungers for everyone. The location is out of town with a steep walk down (we are fit and fast and it took us 30 mins to get right down to the seafront), but there’s a shuttle bus during the week (not at the weekend while we were there) and the local buses stop outside. A perfect retreat.

Hotel is difficult to find without satnav. However, once there the welcome is excellent and ALL the staff are amazingly helpful, friendly, good humoured and knowledgable.
Rooms are superb, clean, spacious and with balconies.
Beautiful gardens, extensive area including a pool, gym, jacussi and day time restaurant.

Lovely hotel with excellent staff!

Lovely hotel set in magnificent gardens. Great outdoor pool area with jacuzzi and bar. Please be aware that there are limited sea views due to the trees in the gardens (depending upon what floor/side you are on) and none from pool area, however, this doesn’t detract from the hotel. It is a steep walk up the hill to the hotel from town but only about €8 in a taxi, takes about 25 minutes to walk down. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful and really made our stay.

This small (40 room) hotel is a hidden delight. The buildings are based around the old Governor's residence, and the rooms are spacious & comfortable.

Outside, wonderful gardens lead down to the swimming pool & the relaxation facilities.

The food in the restaurant was of a high standard, & the breakfasts generally meant that lunch was not required!

A key feature of this hotel was the friendliness & helpfulness of the staff - at all levels. Nothing was too much trouble for them, & they did all that they could to ensure that we had a problem free stay.

The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of Funchal. The descent is steep, and not suitable for those with mobility issues. Best to make use of the hotel's shuttle bus, which offers a regular service both up & down the hill.

It's worth noting that this is not a hotel for families - there is nothing for children to do at the hotel or anywhere in the locality. In this, it is simply a reflection of Madeira itself. It is a location for couples, not children.

One final point - if you are the kind of individual who believes that a t-shirt & hoody is suitable attire for coming down to dinner - then this isn't the hotel for you.

Beautiful, comfortable hotel. Servicing room was often later in the afternoon despite tidy room card being displayed early at breakfast time. This was poor for a hotel of this standard . Key card did not always work which meant a trek to the reception desk to rectify it. Egg orders at breakfast was a bit like \"Basil Fawlty \" as waiters could not seem to tie in guests to their particular order. These are all things that can be addressed and improved. Apart from these minor irritations we loved the ambiance of the property and if we returned to Funchal we would choose it to stay. The pool area is wonderful to relax, plenty of sun beds but at times guests had to put out their own sun bed mattresses.

Beautiful hotel in tranquil settting

What a lovely hotel, located 20 minutes walk down a steep hill to the centre of Funchal and with a regular and efficient local bus service. Beautiful gardens, lovely pool area. Fantastic food in the restaurant, and live music in the bar twice a week. The staff were always available, friendly and welcoming.
As for Funchal, vibrant, full of lovely restaurants and perfect for gentle strolling and exploring.
The Island is beautiful, with lots to do, particularly if you like walking.

Great Honeymoon Stay

Stayed in a Junior Suite for our honeymoon. Very spacious bedroom featuring a large comfortable four poster bed, settee, large bathroom with twin basins and over-bath shower, free fruit, tv, tea and coffee making facilities, fast wi-fi and a general air of comfort and cleanliness. Towels and sheets were replaced so frequently we lost count; the carpet seemed fairly new and immaculate.
Our room had its own very private and spacious roof terrace complete with sun-loungers, table and chairs. This terrace was an absolute sun-trap overlooking the beautiful gardens with a great view out to sea. Fabulous place to sit in the evening, watching the stars, listening to some music and sipping a bottle or two of ‘fizz’.
The hotel features beautiful spacious gardens to wander around and designed in such a way that you feel you are in the middle of the countryside – not a 6 Euro taxi ride from a city centre.
The pool was lovely – warm water and clean, surrounded by enough sunbeds - never crowded, unlimited towels and a perfectly adequate bar area which provided a full range of drinks and snack facilities. Like all parts of this hotel the pool is hidden amongst trees and plants.
Inside, the hotel was beautifully old-fashioned, totally in character, and extremely well cared for.
We would agree with all the positive reviews this hotel has accrued from other visitors around its ambience, its facilities and its staff --- we could not really fault anything.

First time in Madeira

We decided to visit Madeira to celebrate my husbands 60th Birthday and chose to stay at Quinta Jardins do Lago,everything about the hotel was excellent every member of staff was unfailingly helpful and went out of their way to make sure you received the highest level of service possible without being over fussy the cocktail waiter was fantastic and went to great lengths to serve a special cocktail for us on my husbands birthday, we did sample several others and were not disappointed .
We used Taxis on many occasions and again the drivers were very courteous at all times.
We also went on two excellent Jeep Safaris with Up Mountain Madeira drivers great content unforgettable. The Levada walks were also wonderful

Comfortable and peaceful retreat

Had a seven day stay in April 2016. We first stayed here some 7 years ago and nothing really had changed. This is a colonial type house with gardens that will amaze even non gardeners. There is a very nice pool that overlooks the vegetable garden and a smaller pool for young children. There is a bar and buffet service around the main pool that is run by very efficient staff.The food is top class with everything imaginable for breakfast and serviced by very attentive staff. If you choose to stay for the evening dinner you will not be disappointed either. The service, food quality and ambience is on par with any top class 5 star hotel. The room we stayed in was a superior double on floor two. Plenty of room, very clean and well serviced by efficient staff. Cannot rate this hotel highly enough. There is live music at the week ends which consists of a piano and singer so there are no rave ups. All in all a classy place that is well run and away from the crowds. 1.2km to the main town, all down hill, the walk up is quite testing and if so inclined 7 Euros by taxi or the hotel has a mini bus service that is bookable. The hotel also has a Tortoise \"Colombo\" that walks around its own pen and is 58 yrs. old.

Quite probably the best hotel we have stayed in

This hotel is simply excellent in every respect. It is far enough from the main hotel strip to be out of the hurly-burly but close enough to the town attractions and amenities - about five minutes by car/taxi or 30 minutes walk (although the return walk is quite steep in places and a taxi is preferable). The courtesy bus that runs during weekdays is useful. The appointments in the bedrooms and public rooms are in classic style and are superb whilst the amenities include a library, games room, gym, jacuzzi, sauna, excellent pool and very comfortable, spacious lounge etc. Considering that there are only 40 rooms the space, particularly the extensive gardens, which are as good as most botanic gardens, is quite amazing and the ratio of staff to guests is high. The food is excellent as well but what makes the hotel exceptional is the staff - they are all friendly, pleasant and helpful at all times and really cannot be faulted. Another star attraction is Colombo, the 58 year-old Galapagos tortoise who loves having his head scratched.

My wife had a 'significant' birthday whilst we were there and without any input from us we were presented with glasses of champagne and a cake after dinner. Overall it is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in and we fully intend to return.

First class hotel in Funchal!

The Hotel Quinta Jardins do Lago was absolutely first class. The hotel itself is beautiful with elegant furnishings. There is a library, billiard room, beautiful lounges and bar areas. Our room was perfect, with comfortable beds and good quality bed linen. The gardens are lovely, as nice as the botanical gardens and with the bonus of Columbo the tortoise. Best of all was the staff and the service - it really couldn't have been more attentive without being overly so. Nothing was too much trouble, and the staff offered excellent advice concerning local buses, levada walks etc. An amazing hotel with amazing staff.

Quinta Jardins Do Lago is beautiful, the grounds and swimming pool are lovely. The room was lovely and very clean, the bedroom maid turned down the bed each evening and left chocolates, there was fresh fruit and water in the room on arrival. The hotel is well kept and the staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. They run a shuttle service into Funchal and when the one we requested was full they made an extra journey. We only ate one night in the hotel which was lovely, the other evenings we went into the old town of Funchal where there is an abundance of restaurants, we ate in a different one each night and didn't have bad food anywhere. The Island is beautiful but take care on the roads as they are very steep, narrow and windy.

Perfect for a relaxing break

We've just returned from our third visit to this lovely hotel and would endorse everything you will read in other positive reviews. The main old part of the house is beautiful; spotlessly clean with gleaming wooden floors and lovely furniture & fittings very much in keeping with the style and age of the house. The extensive garden in which the hotel is set is a delight and the resident 58 year old tortoise 'Colombo' brings a smile to everyone each morning on their way to the swimming pool. The pool itself is superb, always spotlessly clean with plenty of sun beds for everyone. The cafe by the pool serves a good variety of light lunches to suit all tastes. The staff are just great and all guests are made to feel really welcome and valued. Bedrooms are spacious and well appointed with bed linen and towels changed on a daily basis. The breakfasts are also excellent with a good variety of hot and cold food. The hotel is a little way out of the main hub of Funchal and although it is possible to walk into town the uphill journey is pretty taxing so we always use the excellent and relatively cheap taxis. We stay in a bed & breakfast basis as we like to visit the many excelkent restaurants in town, but the evening meals we have had in the restaurant have been excellent. It is the only hotel we have ever returned to and I doubt if this latest visit will be our last.

The hotel is in lovely gardens. The standard rooms are very spacious. The food is excellent and good value. The staff are very helpful, polite and with excellent English. It is not in the central hotel district - which I think is is good - you feel well away from the tourist crowd. There is a regular shuttle bus provided by the hotel to the centre of Funchal though it doesn't start early enough if you are planning a long walk. It is about 15 minutes down a steep hill to the marina if you walk. And there is a local bus from just outside the hotel too.

Wonderful staff - couldn't do enough for you

We had the most amazing 3 night stay at this hotel, the room was a very generous size, the hotel had a wonderful atmosphere, the gardens were beautiful and the staff couldn't do enough for you. They also have a resident giant tortious named Columbo who is absolutely charming, I thoroughly enjoyed greeting him each day as we walked round the gardens. As for the rest of the hotel, we couldn't fault it and would love to go back. The restaurant does some lovely food, its not cheap but you would pay more in the UK for food of that quality. The bottle of red we ordered was decanted on arrival which was a lovely touch even though it was a few decrees cooler than we would have liked.
There is a mini bus that the hotel put on free of charge that takes you to the town ever 15 minutes or so which is extremely convenient. They also have a lovely library and billiards room as well as a stunning pool.

Magnificent hotel, away from the bustle of Funchal

Jardin do Largo offered excellent facilities, magnificent grounds (Better than the Botanical Gardens!). Excellent staff, could not do enough for you. Excellent food, breakfast outside on the terrace was a treat. Wonderful pool area in the grounds.
Positioned away from the 'Hotel' area of Funchal, quiet and peaceful, offering a free there and back shuttle service into central Funchal, though only a 15 min walk into town.
Would recommend to anyone!

A beautiful hotel set in lovely gardens

Have just returned from our second stay at this lovely hotel. It consistently gets 5 stars and thoroughly deserves that rating. It is set in a beautiful garden complete with 58 year old tortoise called Colombo and a lake with swans. The bedrooms are spacious and very well appointed; the public rooms, which are in the main old house, are comfortable and relaxing; the swimming pool is crystal clear and inviting; the staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful and the food excellent. It is set away from the hustle and bustle of the main part of town so has a very relaxing ambience, but there is a free shuttle bus service and taxis are plentiful and cheap so visiting or dining there does not present any problem.

Fabulous relaxed beautiful hotel

Perfect hotel! Huge beautiful rooms with lovely views. Outstanding pool area and bistro - massive pool, great food, could sit there all day. Staff were friendly and attentive, breakfast good. Felt totally at ease and relaxed. Quiet residential neighbourhood, but taxi to town only €6. I expected lovely gardens but was blown away.

This hotel is close to as good as it gets. Very tasteful in every way, fabulous gardens, huge pool, every service imaginable.
However it's about a mile and a half up a seriously steep hill from the town of Funchal, there is a shuttle bus but you have to book it and be there on time etc. A taxi costs 6 or 7 euros, or you take a deep breathe and start climbing!
They also foolishly have loud music on two nights a week, so if you don't want that in the background of your room try to get a room as far from the bar as possible.
The food is top class, every meal we had was superb and the staff have first class degrees in friendliness.

Really classy and beautiful hotel.

We had a lovely 13 night stay here for our honeymoon. The room was always perfectly clean, the staff were great. The option to have breakfast in the gardens was unbeatable. The days spent walking in the mountains were easier knowing we always had the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna to come back to.

But we had some problems. The internet didn't work properly. WE NEEDED IT FOR WORK.

We took a Samsung Galaxy 4 phone, a nexus 4 phone. A Google Nexus 7 tablet and a brand new Pro Windows 8 laptop. NONE of them were able to access the internet consistently. Laptop got zero data the entire time. Some nights we could connect with phones but other nights it was just impossible. I repeatedly reported the failures but all they did was to try \"resetting the internet\". I never got a connection in the lobby area and I could see others frustrated with this as well. The internet infrastructure is either incapable of doing the job, or is not properly configured. Either way they need to get a professional to come in and fix it.

There were a few other things that I found a bit poor for an expensive 5 star hotel, The TV reception was terrible. The milk for the breakfast cereal was lukewarm, the glasses for the fruit juices were like thimbles. About 100ml. There was only cornflakes and a kind of chocolate cereal, no muesli etc. The pool was freezing, its supposed to be heated but I don't believe it is. The jacuzzi isn't very warm either. cooler than the shower. Shower in room was weak.

Superbly run hotel in beautiful setting of tropical garden. Staff very friendly and supportive, room clean and spacious; very good breakfast buffet and excellent restaurant if you like to dine in. Peaceful and calm atmosphere makes it a very relaxing and enjoyable place to stay.

Great Hotel

The Quinta Jardins do Lago was just what we expected and more.We stayed for five nights and the air conditioned room was extremely comfortable with a balcony looking out both over the gardens and the new town up to Monte.The mile or so walk to the centre of Funchal is fairly steep so not for everyone but we found it good exercise.For those not up to the walk the Taxi fare is about six euro each way.The staff were very attentive and even delivered a cake and Champagne to our room on my wife's birthday and treated us to free drinks in the bar, so full marks to them for making the day special.
I would fully recommend this hotel to anyone.

Quite location away from the town. The bus to and from the town was a god send.
We had a lovely relaxing time. The staff were superb. We will go back. (this is not something we say very often!) not an hotel to pick if you want to be in the thick of it!

Excellent hotel for quality of food in the restaurant and at breakfast. Staff were without exception helpful and pleasant.

Excellent hotel for couples

Excellent traditional hotel,very elegant with enormous rooms. Superb service from all the staff.Very good breakfast with a wonderful choice of fruit.

Wonderful gardens and beautiful pool.

Hotel not really suitable for children although a few facilities are provided most suitable for middle aged and older couples.

We were upgraded to a Premier Suite although we had only booked a superior room,it was 80 square metres.

We would recomend this hotel for people wanting a quiet and relaxing holiday.

Great for couples

We stayed here for a week mid April 2013. We had come across the hotel's website several years ago and decided that if and when we came to Madeira this is where we would stay, and we were not disappointed. The hotel is situated above Funchal in it's own beautiful gardens, and is a haven of peace and quiet well away from the main tourist hustle and bustle. All the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, the service faultless and the ambience one of understated, country house elegance. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Five star fiftieth birthday surprise

I booked this as a surprise for my partner's 50th birthday and it was fabulous. The staff were attentive without being pushy and could not do enough for us. Being situated in its own botanical garden meant that this is a little slice of heaven and helped to deliver a lovely relaxing break. Columbo the tortoise 'almost' made up for leaving the pets at home. We will not hesitate to both recommend and return. Fabulous!!!

Peaceful, relaxing hotel - great for couples

This superb hotel more than made up for disappointing weather in Madeira. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the room more than lived up to expectations. The gardens are beautiful and provided a peaceful place to wander, sit and read. Breakfast was very substantial with loads of choice - we found that we didn't need to have lunch at all. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious - but quite pricey. All staff were attentive without being obtrusive. A peaceful, luxury hotel possibly more suited to couples than families.

Simply the best you could wish for

I doubt if there are many better hotels than this on the Island. Everything about it is just first class. The main building has been restored to a very high standard with cool spacious public areas furnished with lovely comfortable furniture and beautiful antiques. The bedrooms are extremely spacious and are also furnished to a very high standards. The hotel is set is wonderful gardens complete with a lake with swans and a 50 years old tortoise . The swimming pool and leisure facilities are also excellent as is the food both in the main dining room and at the poolside restaurant. The staff and warm, welcoming and helpful. We have already decided to pay a return visit next year - something which speaks for itself
