Staff at reception were so helpful arranging a taxi to get my wife and I to the Bom Jesus and made sure the taxi even came back for us

If not for the mattress we would have given it an excellent. The mattress was so hard and like sleeping on a box spring. It was actually painful to us.
The hotel is two blocks from the center where there is no traffic. Our usual hotel was booked so we tried this one.
Clean and friendly. The food was excellent also.

We loved Mercure but Expedia transferred us to this property from Colina Guesthouse but did not give us the free parking nor the free breakfast for the two night stay which they said would be included. This cost us over 80 euros extra. We contacted Expedia. They said they would clear up the problem. They did not. I will do my hotel booking elsewhere.

Property was located near the city center which was very convenient. Lots of shops, restaurants, and cafes within walking distance. Rooms were clean but a little dated. Beds were pretty small. Reception staff wasn’t knowledgeable about the tours and just told us to scan a QR code. Room service only had sandwiches so we had to Uber to a McDonald’s after a night out with friends. Hotel also had one iron and ironing board which was super inconvenient since a number of us staying at the hotel were attending a wedding.

Our family has stayed at the Mercure Braga a few times and always enjoy our stays. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean and well appointed. Dinner in the restaurant is excellent. The area is within walking distance of many of Braga's historical sites. We look forward to a return visit!

Cost of a 4 star, service of a hostel.

The pool was really nice, and the location was great. I made my reservation and by mistake I didn’t change from 2 people to 1. When I arrived they had me pay in full for 2 people. This is disappointing for a 4 star hotel. No water in the rooms, no toiletries, a coffee maker- no water. It was missing all the basics of a hotel. Price of a hotel, service of a hostel. Just Basic.

Enormous hotel on busy street junctions. We visited in May, and were told that air conditioning and swimming pool would not be not available until June, despite weather being 29 / 30 degrees. Pool and air con advertised on listing, but NOT described as seasonal. Underground car park is nearby, payment charged at hotel, but is for public use. Complex procedure for entry and departure. Excellent staff.

People here are much friendlier than in Lisbon!

Very well located, near the historic center, but far enough to avoid the noisy crowds. Also easy to get in and out by car without having to deal with the narrow streets in the old town. Great view of the hills (and the churches on top of them) from the room balcony. Very friendly and helpful staff; they would not let us leave town without visiting one of the monasteries we could see from our room, and we are very glad we did it!

At first we got a room with a view of a dirty rooftop. After a call to the reception they moved us to another really nice room with a great view. Props to them for resolving that quickly.
The breakfast was nice and the swimming pool as well. The location is very central.
Downsides: it was annoying to be asked wherever we went what our room number was (each time coming and going to the pool, when getting a towel by the pool, when buying a drink and coming to breakfast), also we got the worst and most expensive mojito there on our month trip in Spain and Portugal.

good location from the main cathedral and downtown. The staff at lobby is not perfectly nice and it might be my stay is just a day... Good restaurant and the dinner is served very well but breakfast buffet is not really good with fewer items at 10 euro compared to other hotels in other cities in Portugal.

Nice hotel close to town

We came here for a 4 night stay. The hotel was clean and staff helpful. The hotel is very well situated for exploring Braga town which is certainly very pretty. We had some issues with parking whilst there there was an inconsistency in the cost of parking shown in the hotel and it wasn't clear that there was an additional charge on Saturday night.

Personally I was disappointed about air conditioning in the room. The system appears to be more climate control and at temperatures of 38 degrees wasn't effective so we ended up buying a fan to help. Also on the final day the curtain rail in our room fell down whilst the cleaners cleaned. We were offered an alternative room however turned this down as it was our last night.

Come, See and Go Around!

It was the week of Sao Joao de Baptiste celebration as well as cultural festivities of Braga and nearby towns and cities. It was great. Visiting other cities such as Guimaraes, Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo is so easy from Braga.

I will definitely check for Mercure Hotel worldwide locations. We stayed previously in Berlin close to the airport and now I chose this hotel again in Braga , Portugal . All our expectations were met including and excellent buffet breakfast for a reasonable price.

Bad stay !
1)when we came in at about 10:30-11:00 am, we asked for getting the room sooner. The answer was that me must pay a supplement of 20€. We paid it but let me tell you that this is a greediness that swings against you: I can understand such a policy during the high season but not in winter, lie season when at least 2/3 of the hotel was empty.i travel a lot and in hotels not of a less quality than yours ( Hyatt,Sofitel) and I ALWAYS got the room without supplement in low season.
2) during the night my son felt very bad and at 6:00 am I went down to the reception and asked to call a Dr. The person started saying that he doesn't know where to look, he doesn't know what to do and called somebody else who at his turn, for long minutes, checked in a kind of old hand writing booklet and told me go back to your room we'll transfer you the communication. After may be 5 or 7 minutes the reception employee called me saying \" the Dr doesn't answer\"
I ordered a taxi and flew to the hospital of Braga.
How come a hotel has not an updated list of physicians that can be called any time? It is not a service to the customer, it is a must.
3) the Internet connection was cut down every few minutes. From my room (#619) it was quite impossible, I went down to the reception and asked them about it and the answer I got was \" try here at the reception level, if it doesn't work, try from the different floors.

Decent location but could have been better. Five minute walk up a moderate hill to get to center of town. Major road out front, so traffic noise.

Hotel was GREAT! Brand new, clean, bright. Couldn't ask for more, especially at the price.

Hotel staff was rude. Forgot my passport at my parent's place in Lisbon and when I told person at front desk, he rolled his eyes at me. When I was checking out a different front desk person was being very rude to an admittedly difficult customer.

Everything we needed

Easy enough to find, car parking in garage below hotel for 6.50€ a night. It’s an old hotel which has been refurbished in the past couple of years, and done well. Spacious quiet room, excellent WiFi, bathroom with good quality fittings and thick towels. Ten minutes’ walk from the centre of the old town. Breakfast included in price was a cut above the usual chain hotel buffet: I was the one who ate all the warm custard pies. Coffee machine dispensed decent espresso unitl it blew up on the second morning. We would stay again.

Very friendly and comfortable

Sadly I was caught up in the French air traffic stroke, and missed my first booked night at the hotel, including the rooftop pool, which was the main reason I'd booked this hotel. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of my stay, brief though it was. The room was large and comfortable, and I ate the 3-course dinner in the restaurant, which was good value. The wifi worked well. It took me around 20 mins to walk from the railway station (a pleasant walk) and around 30 mins up to the university. Reception staff were very friendly. I would definitely stay here again.

Convenient location

This was a good priced, clean and convenient hotel. There was a good Wi-Fi connection and the hotel had swimming pool and gym. We took a train into Oporto for the day and the station is within walking distance. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the hotel car park was underneath the hotel. Breakfast was included in the room tariff and there was a good selection. Excellent - would stay again.

Good hotel

Great rooms. Very good service. Hotel restaurant food had limited choice and only sandwiches in the bar. Not much food options in surrounding neighbourhood although stay was out of season.

Question the condition of the hot water and aircon

You get to risk having hot a hot shower in the AM and the right temperature in your room at night. We had only louk warm water for our shower, and the air conditioning stopped working during the night,miso it became stuffy in the room. The front desk was not helpful in understanding these two issues when informed in the morning.

Great location, great hotel, and v. helpful staff

We greatly enjoyed our time here - it is really close walking distance (about 5-7 mins) to the old town - very convenient and easy to find. There is also a grocery store about 3 minutes away. The staff helped us with directions and maps to Bom Jesus (a must see attraction). Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The only drawback would be the parking - it costs around 5€, not too much but I would have preferred it to be included. We would definitely return!

Good hotel

hotel staff seemed a bit stuck up and rude. any requests made were not answered, put on hold for 10 minutes on the phone had to hang up. I asked for the local train schedule or bus schedule, that was like pulling teeth from the lady answering the phone. The general attitude of the front desk staff was rude and unhelpful. Will probably not stay there again, better off taking your business some place where the staff understand their role.

Good Location

We had a great stay and enjoyed staying at this hotel. The location was good and the rooms a good size and clean. Staff very helpful. Breakfast was a little over priced for what you got, so after the first say we ate out and went to the bakery.

Great value, central hotel

Great value for money, perfectly located to explore the city by foot. Ideal for business an pleasure alike and free wifi was a nice touch. Some building work was ongoing outside the hotel at the time of visit which did cause noise from 8am however it didn't really disturb and I genuinely think they tried to locate all guests as far away from the noise as possible.

great hotel to stay in braga

this hotel is centrally located in braga, and from the hotel it is very convenient to get to the bus stops, bus and train station, the historic center, and shops...
also, the hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, i have experienced a pleasent stay there.
Finally, the hotel restaurant is excellent, the chef works wonders with the seafood (i have only had seafood during my stay, but if the quality extends to other food, that would not be surprising). The waiters in the restaurant were doing an excellent service and perhaps the best i experienced in the Iberian peninsula.
Hope you a nice stay in Hotel Mercure in Braga.

Amenities not consistent with a 4 star rating

I stayed in this hotel in mid September 2010. The rooms were large, the staff were generally helpful, although one spoke virtually no English. Another gave me incorrect information on the availability of taxis at a tourist location which ended up in a near disaster because I had no way to get home and it would have been a two hour walk straight down a hill with no sidewalks.

There are things that did not warrant a four star rating. First., the breakfast was terrible. I am comparing it to other 4 star hotels in Europe. I know that other reviews have said the opposite, but those reviews are over 2 years old. The coffee was simply awful, and the selection quite poor. I would definitely recommend eating elsewhere. I ate at the hotel restaurant once for dinner and the food was overpriced and nothing special, although the service was good.

Secondly, I echo the reviewer who noted that certain things, like shampoo, were not only in the room, they were not available from the front desk.

Moroever, the wireless connection did not work in the rooms. They had computers available on the second floor, and the wireless connection worked there.

Another point: Because of their energy efficient lighting in the hallways, they were dark. If you travel alone, this may be important to you.

The rooms were large but nothing special.

Finally, be aware that this hotel is not particularly close to the city center.

- Staff was helpful in printing a convulted train connection schedule to Obidos for us. This took them a little bit of time to do but it won us over on recommending them.

CONS
- Probably difficult to find on your own due to a somewhat oddly located entrance but every taxi knows it.
