Place is very quiet. My family stay during slow season. If yoh look for a live hotel area its not a place for you. The place is more of a sleep and wake up and go. The hotel is older but if you really want a Thai feel but still in modern than yes. The place do need a work on the garden to make the place look more alive but other than that my family had a great time because we don't really like crowded and noisy place so it fits our family well.

We had no complaints on this hotel and in general enjoyed our stay, however unfortunately the hotel is not well kept and is becoming a little run down. We believe some renovation was happening, which led to noise at times but compared to other properties we stayed at in Asia there seem to be no efforts to keep the general grounds tidy (in particular dead leaves everywhere and the lakes and gardens looked messy).

The shower head in our was broken and we only had a bath tub and no shower. But other than that no issues with the room. The property is outside of town so taxis are required. Great potential with some investment and whilst no major issue, we left a little disappointed.

It’s nice but it’s a bit run down. I’d say it’s more a 3 star with nice service. Breakfast could be better but we didn’t prepay so only did it once. It is secluded but close enough to easily get a ride. Staff are great which we find to be true all over Thailand

Do not pick this hotel based on the photos. As others have mentioned. The property today does not match those images. It is very run down. Our room had a broken shower head that leaked water everywhere. Plus you could not change the temperature on either the shower or hand basin. It came out boiling hot. Its a shame as the property has so much potential if it was maintained and upgraded. Having said that if you are aware of what you are getting, then its not the worst place to stay. Staff are lovely and super helpful.

A nice rural hotel which needs some TLC

A nice hotel in a quiet rural area. The rooms were clean and we were a large group of friends with several rooms. Some were older than others and other reviews said that the lodges were a lot nicer but our rooms were good value. The hotel is quite far out of town and the pool was closed for maintenance. Clearly the pandemic has meant that certain things can’t be updated as the gym was very old and musty and the breakfast and breakfast room need updating. I would stay here again but it would be nice if the site was better maintained although I understand in the present circumstances this is difficult. We paid to go to a big hotel on the last day so we could use a pool so it might have been nice if the staff had offered something complimentary to compensate for the fact the facilities couldn’t be used- when guests are scarce it pays to look after them.

It is an older resort property, but kept up nicely and the staff are so friendly and eager to help with anything that you need. I stayed in the basic level room which was very nice, but they also have cute little bungalows that have bath tubs that I would book if I were to stay there again. Restaurant on site with delicious food. Very happy with this property.

The place is a mass tourist housing for tours. The food was the worst I had so far in Thailand. There is no love in that place, only squeezing out the very last bit.

We had booked a Superior Room, and got a free upgrade to a Cottage. Thanks, this was nice! It was in July, and the hotel was almost empty. Therefore they did not offer a breakfast buffet, only breakfast from the menue, which was good, however nothing special. The breakfast/dining room looks outdated, not comfortable at all. Certainly would benefit from an upgrade. I also checked the Superior Room, as I may consider to go there again. This looks o.k., however I would prefer one with an odd room number, as they face the park like setting of the resort grounds, and not the other side towards the road. I enjoyed the big pool, however there were no umbrellas. Getting a good offer, I would stay there again!.

A very bad experience

This resort looks a lot older than what the pictures show online. I requested a room with bathtub but was given one with shower only. In the middle of the night, the AC suddenly started to leak water and flooded the room. I had to pack everything and requested to change to another room. In the new room, it was smelly and AC didn't work so well. I woke up in the middle of the night sweating. Bed was not comfortable. Swimming pool was dirty with a lot of dead bugs. No umbrella no cushions on the chair. Pool bar and restaurant bar were closed. No wonder nobody hang out in these areas! It was a disappointed experience and I will not recommend anyone to stay there!

This resort is overpriced for what you get. The pictures on hotel.com are not accurate. The pool was filthy and had algae growing in the bottom. All the chair and umbrellas were put away. The room we had had huge chunks of paint chipping off the walls. The extra pillow in the tv cabinet smelled like mildew. The room had tiny ants everywhere. Room service was very disappointing. It was very over charged and was one of the worst meals I have had in Thailand. In the amenities it lists Airport Shuttle as though this is a viable option. They charged 200 baht PER person for the shuttle when you can get a taxi for only 170 (for everyone).

The staffs are friendly and the facilities are fine though a bit aged. The environment is quiet and relaxing with plenty of lovely plantations and ponds. Just a few points to note, the water pressure is not enough for a satisfying shower; the roll away bed is far from comfortable (my back still hurts). Regarding food, I wish their breakfast could have more varieties as we had almost the same thing for a few days. The lunch buffet is 189 bhat which is very attractive but I would recommend people to try something else unless you don’t have time to go outside. With its reasonable price and the convenient location (like 15 minutes drive from airport/city centre), I would recommend Phowadol.

The resort is quite nice and conveniently located a few minutes from Chiang Rai city center. We stayed there for about a week but large groups of tourists seem to come and go every day and large business meetings happen during the day (making it difficult to park your car), contrasting sharply with the atmosphere you would expect from a resort.

A gem in Northern Thailand

It was wonderful place to stay and would have liked to explore the hotel grounds further but the weather was miserable during our stay, raining and temps around 10 degrees C. The room was excellent but the bed was a bit stiff for our liking. I will book this hotel again next time we get back to Chiang Rai.

We liked the hotel very much. Just stay out of the restaurant and reception. We had dinner and it was good, so we tried breakfast. Bad idea. It was awful. Very expensive and inedible. We tried to figure out how many times they reused the coffee grounds to make the coffee. Nasty stuff. I live in Thailand and am accustomed to the \"Asian style\" breakfast. I like jok in the morning and the different noodle dishes. I'm not sure how they could make Thai food taste that bad. The worst thing was the price. It cost almost a day's pay for a Thai to eat there per person. My Thai MIL almost had a heart attack over the price and then with the food being so horrible she was upset about it the entire day. The other problem we had was that reception refused to call a taxi for us. We wanted to hire a taxi to take us, 4 adults, to the white temple. They told us the only option was their shuttle to the night market for a sort or reasonable fee, or hire their van to the white temple for a couple hours for an insane price. We could have rented a car for two weeks for the price we were quoted. We ended up renting a car for out stay so we could avoid their crazy rates. The next day we asked for directions to the long neck village. Reception drew us a totally bogus map in the complete opposite direction from where we needed to go. Half a day wasted. No language barrier. I was the only non-Thai in the group.

Hotel past it's prime

This hotel looks like it was great in it's prime. When we arrived, we were told they were booked solid so they upgraded us to a better room. The room they upgraded us to had only one bed and not two as we had reserved. They did offer to bring in a cot but an adult sleeping on a cot is not comfortable, especially when you paid for two beds. The shower was outside and the temperature in the morning was 55 degrees F (12 Celsius), plus in order to get the hot water for work, you had to turn the air conditioning on! Now imagine trying to shower in the morning outside and come inside to a colder room. There were holes in the screens and very small biting bugs flying around. Woke up every morning with bites. The hotel also wouldn't call a cab to take us into town and the airport and required we take their shuttle, which was double the price of a Taxi. The hotel is also quite a distance from town and nothing that you can walk to. This hotel catered to large tour bus trips as there were multiple new buses in the parking lot each evening and morning. The breakfast was nice and the food was good. I would not recommend staying here, nor would I ever stay here again.

Not a 4 star hotel in my opinion

This hotel is further away from the main bus station and central Chiang Rai. The rooms are outdated especially the bathrooms. Bathtubs are gross...dated from the 60's. The beds were rock hard and hotel charges a lot for taxi service to the centre. Don't recommend this hotel.

The bungalow was lovely and the rooms facilities but the bed is really rock hard.
Location is a bit out of town so transport is need to go anywhere. Hotel should offer free transport in and out of the town at a certain schedule times.

Worst service I have ever received from a hotel.

Having arrived quite late into Chiang Rai we decided to book somewhere out of the city for a more relaxing time so we made this reservation at quite short notice and arrived at around 11pm. I did expect this could result in some delay to check in so I tried to be patient with the staff (receptionist and night manager) when this took a while, even though we were tired and just wanted to get into our room. After 25 minutes my girlfriend was starting to get a little distressed and I started to firmly ask to be shown to the room we had booked and paid for. We had already shown them the booking on hotels.com on my phone and the confirmation text but they kept going on about how they needed 'a piece of paper' before they could give us the keys. I became increasingly irritated with this and repeatedly pointed out that their administrative matters should not be our concern and I did not care about the 'piece of paper'. They communicated badly throughout. When I started to firmly demand our room key they completely ignored us. I demanded to speak to the manager, to which I was told the scruffy looking (non-uniformed) 'might manager' was the only manager available. I asked them repeatedly to call hotels.com but they would not. The 'night manager' had the cheek to blame us for the problems and said we should have booked earlier! After a further ten minutes of demanding our keys I resorted to videoing the 'night manager' while I asked him repeatedly for the keys we had paid for. This resulted in him ignoring us slightly less but no actual progress. Feeling frustrated, and having exhausted all other options, I then stood up to make it clear I was either getting room keys or leaving. At this point the 'night manager' stood up and raised his voice to me! (he did not dare do that again!). The only progress we actually got was when I pointed out that the reservation and payment were completely irrelevant to us getting our room keys and if necessary I would pay in the morning (even though I had already shown them our payment confirmation). After a few more unnecessary minutes wait this got us our room keys and two vouchers for breakfast. We were shown to our room which was nice, as expected, but by then we just wanted to get some sleep and get out of there as soon as we could in the morning. My girlfriend was very distressed by the fact a simple check-in for a hotel we had reserved and prepaid for, in the hope of dome relaxation, turned into a confrontation. These staff did not have the first idea of customer service and having worked in a hotel myself I would not risk employing them to clean a toilet. I can only assume they had had a complete lack of training to not be able to use the reservations system or treat guests anywhere close to a reasonable standard. After ten minutes in the room we were disturbed by the receptionist knocking at the door asking us to complete the check in form! We had a good night's sleep, and in the morning we went to use the breakfast vouchers we had been given. I could not remember if we had booked with breakfast, but I assumed we had, or that the vouchers were an apology for the 35 minute check in trauma. When we arrived at the breakfast room there was no-one else there and it was ten minutes before the buffet was due to finish (and presumably all be thrown away). We handed our vouchers to a member of staff and selected some fresh fruit from the buffet. After a couple of minutes the server came to the table and asked me to go to her desk to speak to reception. The lady on the other end of the phone informed me that we could not have breakfast as this was not included in our booking. I told her that under the circumstances I found that barely believable and asked to speak to the manager. After 5 minutes on hold (as measured on the phone screen) I put the phone down and returned to my breakfast. Shortly after a man came to the table and introduced himself as the front office manager, I was hopeful at this point for an apology and to resolve the issue, however he contradicted my expectations by reiterating that we could not have breakfast and we would have to stop eating. I explained to him how unbelievably bad the service had been the night before and that I couldn't believe that instead of apologising they were adding insult to injury. He did not change his mind about breakfast (though by then we did not want it anymore and my girlfriend had returned to the room, hoping to avoid another confrontation), though he seemed somewhat concerned by the terrible service we had received. I showed him the video I had made of the night manager and he gave me his card and asked me to email it to him so he could follow up on it. Overall this is the worst experience I have ever had at any hotel, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone for a single night nevermind any longer. At check out one of the receptionists apologised for the problems we had had but this was the only sign that anyone at the hotel had the faintest idea of customer service. We were still charged full price for a shuttle into Chiang Rai, where we went to a hotel we had not reserved and were shown to a hotel room within 2 minutes. There was no administrative hassle and we completed the formalities (passports, payment etc.) at our leisure after a shower. Maybe Phowadol could learn a thing or two from their cheaper competitors! I will be complaining directly to hotels.com and suggesting this hotel is delisted as it is nowhere near even the minimum standard of the tens of good hotels I have booked through them in the past.

Had a great stay at this resort, our room was upgraded upon arrival at no extra costs which was nice of them to do, staff were great, breakfast and internet was included.
The room we had was a good size, a nice and relaxing feel to it had everything we needed.
Location wise it is abit away from the main city area but if you want to get away from all the noise this is the place for you.
Overall, its a nice design resort, people are pleasant and I would come back to stay again.

Hotel grounds are very nice, very quit and relaxing. A little too far from town. Hotel charges 80 THB per person, each way to go to Night Market (150 THB by tuk tuk) and 200 THB per person to airport. Restaurant is nothing special. Be there early for breakfast or buffet may not full complement of food and they had difficulty with providing cheese for an omelet. If I return to Chiang Rai, I’ll find something closer to town.

What a shame, real let down

This was one of our worst experiences in three months travelling south east Asia. On the surface the grounds and rooms are beautiful and it looks like a fantastic resort in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately apart from the lovely rooms the hotel was a complete disappointment! We ate at the restaurant the first night as it was late and no other restaurant within walking distance. Food took an hour to come out when we were the only ones eating there, dead flies were in the window sill ledge and we saw a rat escaping from the kitchen! The staff were rude and unhelpful and the meal was the first one we could not eat in three months travelling! We complained to the night manager but got the impression it fell on deaf ears. We were offered the next day a complimentary massage and this was brilliant, we would have paid as it was fantastic. Further problems arose during our stay, we witnessed 100's of bugs around and on the breakfast food due to lack of cleanliness, the pool was so dirty it had changed the colour of the bottom of it and you could push the dust around with your feet, and the rooms were missing basic amenities such as a plug for the bath. The manager and staff could not care less about their guests well being and safety and did not rectify any issues we spoke about. Eventually after spending a morning trying to sort out all our problems, hotels.com got involved and managed to refund one night for us.
Overall this hotel would be amazing if the staff cared even a little to do their jobs properly and keep hygiene to even a basic standard. Do not stay here!!

So Far away

The hotel is quite far from the town and far away from airport and bus station.
There is a shuttle, but they charge a lot to use it (about 200 baths for 2 persons one way).
Service was really on the short side, like no information at all about the available tours around ChangRai. We had to go to town to find really cool people who arranged a one day trip to the Golden Triangle and the Myanmar border.

The Phowadol is a clean, pleasant hotel with everything you could need. The restaurant was fine, not 5 star - but it's not 5 star price. The staff were helpful and on hand when needed. The pool was clean and plenty of sun loungers although the cushions were a bit grubby. The gym has no air-con so it was quite warm (even in November) so my husband tells me! The jacuzzi was full of cold water and the sauna was switched off. I couldn't imagine using it any way in such a warm climate. All-in-all a really pleasant stay.

Wonderful relaxed resort

Appart from the hard bed everything else at this resort was superb. We got a really good deal through expedia which included a wonderful breakfast. We couldn't ask for more than that. The rooms are very tastefully decorated with lovely complimentary snacks and water.

I would go there again any time. It is a lovely relaxed place to go with a beautiful large oasis swimming pool.
You do need a car to get to and from though so for anyone who hasn't got one it could be a problem although I think the hotel does have a shuttle bus.

Lovely peaceful resort!

Beautifully landscaped grounds. Nice outdoor pool right next to a large work out facility. Rooms spacious and with all the amenities including dvd rental - free! Included with our package was a wonderful breakfast buffet. It is very peaceful and serene. Down side is its distance from Chiang Rai city. You need to take a taxi or hotel shuttle which costs $.

Large hotel that seems to cater to tour groups, both foreign and domestic.
Hotel staff very helpful in arranging tours.

Die begrüssung am Abend war sehr kurz und spärlich. Wir haben keine Informationen bezüglich den Angeboten oder Frühstückzeiten erhalten. Der Raum sah ok aus. Im Bad gab es jedoch Schimmel und die duschkabine/badewanne war aus einem Plastikguss. Die stufen in die Dusche waren mega hoch und unangenehme. Das wasser war entweder kochend heiss oder kalt. Das Frühstück war ok . Die Anlage war allgemein eher runter gekommen. Und wir hatten Abends für 20-40 min immer wieder Strommausfall.

Hôtel atypique mais loin du centre de Chiang rai. Location de scooter obligatoire sinon vous être cloîtré à l hôtel et si comme pour notre séjour la piscine est hors service , vous êtes bon pour rester dans votre chambre..

La verdad en las fotos esta muy bonito pero la realidad es otra parece que llego un tornado todo descudado el hotel no le han metido dinero muchas cosas no funcionan la habitación no esta mal pero no se parece en nada a las fotos eses fotos fueron cuando era nuevo
