This beautiful property stole our hearts back in 2019, when my now-wife first visited this magical place. Six years later, we returned — this time to celebrate our wedding reception after tying the knot a few months earlier.
From start to finish, everything was beyond wonderful. A special mention to Sandra, the amazing coordinator who made everything run so smoothly, and her fantastic team — Delfina and the lovely lady (whose name, unfortunately, I’ve forgotten) who graciously welcomed and ushered our guests upon arrival. Every detail was handled with care and professionalism.
The food and Chianti wines during our celebration were absolutely exceptional — truly a highlight that everyone still talks about! The breakfast and dinner staff were attentive, kind, and ensured everything was perfect throughout our stay.
Our rooms were clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained, with housekeeping doing a fantastic job. We also had the privilege of meeting Mr. John Matta, the owner — such a gracious and inspiring man who leads an extraordinary team.
All of our guests loved their stay, and we left with hearts full of joy and gratitude. We can’t wait to come back again — hopefully for our anniversary next time.

This is a castle built on the top of a hill in the 12th century, so the architecture is stunning. The building itself has been updated so all the comforts of modern life are present. On premise winery offers great tours and wine. The on premise included breakfast was excellent. Parking was free and easy. Fantastic place! We hope to return with a big group of friends soon.

A beautiful place! The castle and staff are fine. No air conditioning anywhere and it was super hot. This is not a good option for anyone with limited mobility. You have to carry your bags quite a distance across gravel to your room and then upstairs while dealing with keys and gates. Our room (michaelangelo) is needing an updo and smelled like mold upstairs.
Infinity pool was wonderful and views are the best in Tuscany.
We stayed for dinner, which was actually pretty good but again, no air conditioning and hot.
Same with breakfast.
Private tour is overpriced compared to others in area but guide was knowledgeable.
Biggest complaints by far were the air conditioning and Internet.

Beautiful property overlooking the rolling hills of the Tuscan countryside. Picturesque setting with gourmet restaurant and a pool. People who work there were very nice and accommodating. We arrived after the front desk closed, so someone stayed a little later to show us around. We had a 2 bedroom apartment, it was spacious and had all modern amenities. This is a working vineyard so we took a wine tour which included the wine cellars, wine tasting and lunch with an amazing view of the vineyards. Our stay exceeded our expectations. Very happy I chose this propery.

Beautiful setting, an incredible building with history. The pool is wonderful with a fabulous view.
Breakfast caters for everyone with a super variety of pastries, eggs, bacon, cold meats and cheeses.
The rooms are very large and comfortable with all the facilities you’d need.. take milk at breakfast if you like it with hot drinks in your room. There is an honesty room where you can purchase drinks and crisps… just fill out the slip.
It’s difficult to get your cases up to the main building from the carpark. The restaurant has limited hours ( we may be out of season) but there are some fabulous places to eat in Greve. Beautiful little chapel on-site.
The staff are wonderful and the standard of cleanliness is exceptional.
If you want peace, views and a good book this is your place. Fabulous

Wow factor, soul food and exceptional memorys.

Our stay in Castello Vicciomaggio was a dream location and accommodation in the heart of Tuscany.
It gives the sights, sounds and everything else you want from a winery/stay in Chianti.
It was the most expensive place we stayed while in Tuscany, but gave us the most back in return.
You're not just paying for a place to stay, you're getting the wow factor, soul food, and exceptional memorys.

Our room was nice and the property was very pretty but the check-in process was disappointing. Because it is low season, they tried to move us from our beautiful apartment which we paid for to an “upgrade“ which was a much smaller and less expensive suite. If they had simply asked us to change rooms because of low occupancy, we would have considered the request, but instead the woman who checked us in lied to us and said that she was “upgrading us“ to a room which ended up being much smaller and cheaper and we had to insist on getting the room we paid for. I’ve never actually experienced anything like it anywhere else in my travels. I’d love a terrible taste for our stay.

I loved the warm hospitality, the staff made you feel like you were at home. They treated us with kindness and offered us a ride to and from our villa to the vineyard ( we didn’t bring transportation)… we thought the rain would pass and decided to walk back after our wine tour.. but after a few mins of walking and downpour, we were offered a ride back still. Just felt very kind and well taken care of. It was my husbands birthday one of the days we were staying and they were so kind to help give me ideas before hand ( I had emailed a few months prior and they had reached out promptly). they gave us a great recommendation for a couples massage and I was able to have the massage in our room (company was Chianti massage I believe). It was amazing and my husbands 1st massage, he still talks about our stay and how warm and special it felt. Thank you for making our stay so special and truly was a breathtaking view!

This is one of my best experiences for a stay so far. It's simply a brilliant place! Super beautiful, not only because of the surrounding superior scenery, but the building itself is just fantastic, every area, every corner, you can see and feel the owner had a really good taste and good sense of aesthetic, the decoration just matches perfectly with the building, basically you can take picture everywhere that you can use it as a postcard-level photo. In addition, at different time of the day (morning, afternoon, evening/sunset-time, night), you can see different kinds of beauty of the areas and the building which make you feel you never have had enough to enjoy it. The pool with an unbeatable view which make it stand out! The room itself is also very high quality! With wonderful interior design, the decoration, the furniture, the lightings, all the thing you can see and you use, you can feel they are the top quality and looks really beautiful. Moreover, the staffs are all super friendly and nice, and it's because of their effort which manage the building so well to keep it in such a high quality. Anyway you will never regret to choose this place for your holiday!

This was the most amazing place I've ever stayed at. The Jr Suite was huge, the castle grounds stunning, and the view from our room was breathtaking. The pool was beautiful, and clean as well as the pool area.
The food at the restaurant on site was excellent, the staff were all welcoming and wonderful. Beds and bedding was super comfy. I would recommend staying here to everyone! We would love to come back here again and stay longer!

This was our second visit to Castello Vicchiomaggio but the first overnight there. It's a beautiful historic property that is maintained impeccably. Our room was perfect in every way. We stayed in a junior suite. It was extremely spacious with a separate living room. The decor was very tasteful and the linens were luxurious. The bathroom was spacious with great water pressure. The bath products supplied smelled lovely. The food at the main castle, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, was excellent. The chef is quite talented for sure! After checkin we enjoyed our complimentary gift of wine while sitting under the olive trees taking in the beauty of the valley below. The pool was too cool to enjoy unfortunately but would be excellent on a warmer day for sure. The views are crazy beautiful! After relaxing for a few hours, we enjoyed a tour of the vineyards, and historic cellar, then a wonderful wine paired dinner with live piano music. It was an extremely dreamy experience. We'll definitely return and highly recommend.

The property is amazingly beautiful. Everything was meticulous, including the castle and the grounds. The food was delicious. We had daily breakfast, one dinner in the dining room as well as a picnic that was perfectly prepared for us.
What impressed me most,however, was the people. When I think back about the castle, that is what comes into my head first. They took SUCH good care of us in every way. We arrived late and the restaurant was closed so they prepared us sandwiches. They prepared a beautiful picnic for our dinner one evening and when we had transportation issues, they went above and beyond to help us. I would love to go back!

A truly special place!

My partner and I stayed at Castello Vicchiomaggio for a couple of nights during a 2-week trip through Italy. It was everything we dreamed of and more!

The vibe and ambiance at the castello was great, and the views are simply incredible. Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable, with a lovely view across the vineyard. The food was amongst the very best we had across our whole time in Italy. The lunch menu was particularly excellent value for money and tasted amazing.

We went on Castello Vicchiomaggio's wine tour, and this was a highly recommendable experience. The wine produced on this Chianti estate is amazing, and to learn about the wine and the estate was so interesting.

My partner and I got engaged at this stunning place, and it couldn't have been more perfect. Delfina made this most magical moment possible, and I can't emphasise enough how helpful and hospitable she was both ahead of and during our stay. All of the staff were so friendly and profession, and this only added to our amazing stay.

We will certainly be back in the future, and this place will forever hold a special place in our heart.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon and were blown away with the views and grounds of this property. We had a 1 bedroom apartment which was VERY spacious! We enjoyed time by the pool and lunch in the garden - the lunch was amazing! We HIGHLY recommend joining the Monday night vineyard tour, wine tasting and dinner in the ballroom. It was one of our favourite experiences from our trip, and it was very affordable! Our tour guide, Ines, was charismatic and engaging - we absolutely loved her. She even made recommendations for restaurants for the rest of our trip and we had one of our BEST meals at one of her recommendations. We will DEFINITELY be staying here on our next trip to Tuscany!

This was a memorable stay at a castle! First, it was cool to stay at this castle. Next, the Family Apartment was tremendous (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, huge living area). Next, you have to eat dinner at their restaurant - it seems everyone who stayed there did so also - and it was the best night of our trip. The pool was great (quiet, not a party area, no bar, etc). The grounds are great to walk around, sit on a bench, enjoy the views, take pics, relax, have a drink, go wine tasting, etc.)

The beds weren't too comfortable but it wasn't a big deal.

Service was extremely professional. We arrived late due to bad traffic but they were waiting for us to check-in and reserved us table for dinner. Food is amazingly delicious - try their own Chianti wine. We couldnt join their tours but definitely recommend it.

The room was tidy and spacious, the service and level of hospitality was beyond our expectations. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly.

The view and surrounding are gorgeous. The location f the castello allows you to travel in entire Chianti region and examine their great wines and picturesque nature.

Really beautiful castle in the Greve area. We drove to Greve city center in a matter of minutes and had great food and shopping! This was one of my favorite stays in Tuscany. Our stay was such a great value! Be sure to check out the dinner availability as they are closed some nights. Lunch I believe was everyday. We did dinner one night and everything was really good!

This is an outstanding property from the employees to the beautiful hotel itself. This is the 3rd time I have stayed here. The view from the pool is amazing. Just wish they offered drinks and food at the pool. Innes, at the wine shop, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We shipped many bottles of their fine wine back to the states. The property and ambiance is breathtaking. However, this is a very remote property, no bellboys, staff was not friendly. Dinner is offered only on certain days, forcing you to go in town for dinner, which
normally would not be an issue at any other resort. The issue here is for a non-resident, driving up the narrow, winding roads in the dark could be a daunting task. There are no phones in the rooms, and reception closes before 6:00, making you wonder how quickly emergency help would arrive if required.

The buffet on the first night was very poor and the breakfast wasn't much better. The internet connection was terrible (could be down to location, but we really needed to be able to use our email) and there was no bar available for guests. The actual property has so much character and is in a phenomenal location but needs to be given a new lease of life.

There was no lift, traveling for two weeks with quite a bit of luggage I had to carry it myself up the castle steps to the room from the car wasn’t easy

Gorgeous property with an incredible view of the Tuscan hills. We loved walking around the grounds and laying by the pool enjoying the view. Our room was comfortable and clean, with air conditioning which is a must during summer since it gets very hot. The restaurant was also delicious but is only open certain days so make sure to plan in advance. Overall very peaceful and relaxing stay in a beautiful setting, would highly recommend.

The minute we drove up to the property we were in awe! The gardens were immaculate and views incredible. Check in was easy and she was very welcoming. The hotel is peaceful and well kept. Rooms were large with
Nice decor. A/C is cold. Ricardo, a waiter, helped carry our bags to our room. We did the Wednesday night dinner and it was phenomenal. Ines was charismatic as she lead the wine tour, we were then graced by Marco’s piano playing at dinner. The sweet waitress, Christina, was also one of our favorites! Everyone at this hotel, even the workers in the wine shop, Niccolo and Nadia, were willing to go above and beyond. We loved it so much we cancelled a night elsewhere and are coming back! Also the negative edge pool, awesome!

The staff was very friendly and accommodating to us. This property is beautiful with gorgeous views and amazing food and wine, we had a spectacular private cooking class with the head chef that was truly a one of a kind experience! We loved our visit to this region and Castello Vicchiomaggio.

Checked into the hotel was not advised that the air conditioning was not working until we advised them. Was given a fan which helped a little.
Be prepared to lug your bags up all those stairs without assistance from staff.

Stay at Castello Vicchiomaggio

The location is stunning! Loved staying at the castle! The staff was friendly, helpful. We did the tasting and dinner on Wednesday evening and enjoyed that very well. Only recommendation would be to improve the pillows. Hoping to stay here again in the future!

This hilltop castle also has a winery, so you can tour the vineyards and taste their excellent Chianti. Well maintained, spotlessly clean, aesthetically wonderful, even has a glorious infinity swimming pool. The only possible downside is that the onsite restaurant is only open for dinner every other night, so, you will need to drive a few kilometers if you are there on an off night. This is a gem, however, don't miss it!

Costello Vicchiomaggio is in a spectacular spot in Chianti. We stayed in the castle and had a tour of their fermentation facility followed by a delicious four course dinner. Great experience.

Excellent hotel amongst the vines of Chianti

Incredible stay, the Wednesday banquet was amazing and the staff very nice. Views from the pool are stunning and the wine produced by John Mata is one of the finest in the region.
