Friendly hotel a few blocks from Panong beach. Teo story building eith no elevator but staff assisted me to carry bag up stairs. Room was small, basically enough room to walk around the bed. Small bathroom.
Excellent breakfast. Has a nice bar where guests can hangout at.
Many people seemed to be repeat customers who knew the staff by name.
Area is very busy, lots of restaurants, bars and shopping. Hotel is about 2 blocks from all the mayhem so very quiet.

Stayed at the expat recently and can't say a bad word about it. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of patong. Close enough to the nightlife that you can walk to it but is quiet so you can't hear any noise. The room met all our needs. The on site restaurant offers a good range of food and good prices. The on site bar offers a really good night out as there is always a mixture of guests and regulars to help you enjoy this. All staff were friendly and helpful. We were well looked after throughout our stay. I can't praise them enough. I do plan to return for a stay at the expat and recommend the hotel for anyone to stay in as there were solo travellers, couples and families there during my stay.

Great resort to relax. Pool is exceptional clean and refreshing. Room has extra pillows which a major bonus. Don't turn shower all the way on if you want hot water. Half pressure and your fine. Restaurant in hotel has amazing food. Ate there a few times, every time was great. You can't ask for a better location.

Disappointed with Service and overall feeling

The pool site has an overall good feeling, a bit run down but still ok to enjoy.
Rooms are small, and AC wasn't working correctly. Rooms are old and run down.
Very disappointed with the service, especially from the front desk. Unfriendly, and not willing to listen. Even prepaid all my rooms, they wanted me to charge the double. They claimed that my credit card was not working. Check-out took me nearly 1.5h. Even they were running a scam, there was no sorry from their side. Traveled with a friend who booked over an other website and experienced exactly the same.
I would not recommend staying there.

This is the third time in last 6 months, love the hotel with its own pool.
The owners always make everyone welcome and personally speaks to all customers.
The restaurant staff are fantastic ensuring your needs are catered for.

Very close to all the action. Bed super comfortable. Amazing pool. Massage staff and prices amazing. Front of house staff could be more customer focused. One particular staff member had her family staying at the hotel, her non disciplined son was running riot screaming punching guests, also pushing other small children in the pool whom couldn't swim. Instead of being corrected he was smiled at and thought it was a big game. Support staff having family visit as long as it's recognised there are other guests staying too.

This is not a five star hotel. It was great for what it was. They have a nice pool, a great bar, best massage place I have experienced on this trip, and very friendly staff.

I read other reviews where people felt they were being ripped off. That didn't happen to me at all. I will stay here again.

The Expat is where I usually stay in Patong as it’s very central,the rooms and bathrooms need a bit of updating.What’s bothering is there’s a lack of managerial presence as the staff tend to run the show,they party as much as some of the guests....think a bit more control is needed there

Did not get the room we booked. Complained to hotels.com and front desk. Nobody seemed to care. We opted for the most expensive room available and got no promised balcony or Mountain View. We were shoved in a hole of a room where all the smoke from people who actually had pouches/balconies would fill the room

Expat hotel as name says it all. Great for short or long term stays. Good bed and linen which was suprising given age of hotel. Good aircon more importantly a good guard who was always awake and often walked the grounds at night. Good fairly priced food and coffee. Location says not really children friendly but seeing all the guest would not hesitate to have children there. Minus being lady friendly. Lol. It was popular with many returning guest. If I go back I would be one. Not a resort but a solid structure with a nice pool.

Stayed at the Expat a few times and this time was given a room on the upper floor which had no hot shower etc.The staff tend to party quite a bit which does make you wonder who’s in control- on checking out was presented with a 2500 baht bill for drinks added to my room despite always paying cash.Eventually this was sorted out.Still a great central hotel but will consider elsewhere also depending on price.

Over 40’s bro town don’t stay if under 30.

Ok so I’ll start with the positives - the location of the hotel is outstanding just around the corner from Bangla Rd legit 1.5 minute walk.Pretty quiet so you don’t get noise from Bangla only music that plays at the sports bar which is cut off by 12pm.The hotel has two seperate bars with live sports for each and the cost of drinks is very good and reasonable 80b beers and 100b local rums.The food is also good and well priced.The ladies working the bar are bubbly and sociable and always have a smile on there face and do there best to ensure you are comfortable and well served.The pool is small but relative for the size of the hotel.The room itself has a comfortable enough bed a ceiling fan and good air con. They clean the room daily and do a good job.
Negatives. The bathroom can smell a little and the shower is one of those ones with an in room water heater which isn’t great for temp control or high water pressure. I had a billing issue where myself and a good bloke I met were double charged for rounds - after raising the issue the senior lady (she is an absolute gem) sorted it out for me and fixed the bar tab.I came back for another night though and paid only cash but on check out they bit me up for 260b on things I paid as my taxi was waiting - I didn’t really have the time to argue the point so just paid. The laundry lady is a disgrace 1.3kg she said it was 1.5kg and refused to wash my clothes because I saw she overcharge. big argument at reception young lady was no help.

I have stayed at The Expat a few times now and i love it there.Great breakfast available,everything on the menu i have tried i found very good especially the Thai food.It's not a new Hotel,but everything works fine.Fantastic staff,great pool,clean rooms,air con works,ceiling fans to.5 minute walk to Bangla Road or enjoy a few drinks at the Expat Bar.Good prices at the Expat Bar to.Pool comp on friday night,a lot of fun to enter or just watch.For the price i think it's really value for your money.No extra charge if you choose to take some company back with you.The pool is plenty big enough for the size of the Hotel.About 8 foot deep at the deep end to.I'll go back there again next time i am in Patong.I'm a very satisified customer,thanks Expat.

Dear Hotels.com Team,

This is with great disappointment that we write to you about denial of extra bed to our 3rd guest because of which we would have to sleep in great discomfort. Just at the time of check-in we were informed that extra bed would be charged 700THB despite full payments by one Ms. Aom. On the top of it your company has non refundable fee cancelation policy which effectively means that we are forced to stay at hotel.

There was no one to drop out luggage till the room. We have made payment for 3 guests whereas all the facilities provided are for 2 guests. Kindly provide us refund for 3rd guest immediately failing which we will be constrained to escalate. We have no option but to accept this bad hotel room without any support staff on as is where is condition for 3 guests while having facilities for only 2.

Kindly treat this as most important and prioritize

Very nice hotel, close to everything!

We were relocated to this hotel after a mess up with our original one and were happy with how quickly they checked us in. Nice rooms and great location (it's down a driveway so not so close to the noise). Overall great experience. We found a lot of older people choose to stay here and as we are young we got a lot of looks from the others staying there although this has nothing to do with the hotel, it made us feel a little uncomfortable.

Arrived late up a walkway. Met by two sloppy ill informed hotel employees each over talking each other. Stumbled over no defined walkway to climb two flights of slippery stairs. To walk past full ashtrays and beer cans to back room no window, simply a hole. Hardest bed on the planet. Worn sheets blanket and towels. Condom packs prominently displayed at minibar. Dirty. Mouldy. And downright horrible. Trades on okka friendly. It's a pile of ill defined rubbish with dying fish in its dirty pond. Does any place get any worse at any price? No. Location good. But by that stage who cares?

My overall impression of the hotel was a bit disappointing. The best thing this hotel has going for it is the location. It is far enough from the street to avoid all the noise yet right in the middle of all the action. The pool are is very nice. The bar is nice with a good happy hour from 6 to 8. Can't comment on the food as we never ate there. There seems to be a loyal following that stays at this hotel. And local expats come by regularly to use the pool. The hotel has good \"bones\".

The things we didn't care for was: You can feel the springs through the mattress. We had to hold the button on the water heater for the shower to get warm water. The television reception was not very good. And the most disappointing thing was the attitude of many of the people working there. My impression is that they have been working there for years and have a job for life and could take it or leave it if you stayed there or not. Or maybe its that we are not one of the locals or frequent visitors? There are some friendly welcoming people though.

The rooms at the Expat hotel was horrendous - everything was dirty, from the bathroom to the sheets to the furniture. The door only had one easily-breakable lock so I felt unsafe the entire time.
I've stayed in hostels that were MUCH cleaner and for a better price/overall deal. I guess this hotel is an average option to stay at for location (right next to bars), but if you care about cleanliness at ALL, I would not choose this hotel.

Extra charges?

Upset that I had to pay in cash or 3% for credit card. This is common in Thailand but most hotels will honor the price they quoted. Hotel.com should also honor the price they quoted.

Fantastic...A Little Gem

My self and 4 other friends had a ground floor poolside room. It was fantastic. The hotel is far enough from the nightlife for a good night sleep but close enough to walk (3 Mins). The staff are fantastic and full of life and fun. If I had one negative it would be the breakfast. A little expensive by Thai standards. But i'm just picking. It is rare to find a hotel with ground floor pool access at a decent price. This hotel is a gem.I would not stay anywhere else now that I have found this Hotel.

Quiet and secluded yet only 1 min walk to world famous Nightlife of Bangala Road.
5 min walk to beach.
2 min walk to huge Jungcelong Supermarket.
3 min walk to local Thai markets.
Staff very good and helped with everything and anything with a smile .
