it was an older property, but in poorer condition than expected thought it would’ve been more renovated for the price. Toilet overflowed had to be moved to another room in the middle of the night, the room I moved to front door area was very dirty and the door stuck and I almost broke the doorframe trying to get in and out.

This is such a fun property. We stayed in the Woodstock suite because I thought my kids would get a kick out of the water beds. It totally delivered! We loved all of the little details like blacklight posters, rotary phones, and even a lava lamp. I was surprised by how clean everything felt, despite challenges such as shag carpeting and water bed mattresses. We were also impressed in the confidence of the hotel to have black lights in each of the bedrooms, lol (...no mystery stains to be found)! I will say that I sort of peeked into a few of the other rooms while I was wandering the property, and the decor didn't look quite as elaborate in the basic motel rooms. Parking was easy and very convenient. The clubhouse looked cool with various games and activities, but unfortunately we didn't have time to take advantage of it. Breakfast was serviceable with options like bagels, sausage on a stick, and microwave burritos. This was a really fun spot at a great price, and I would definitely stay here again.

This is the place to stay! Fun, colorful and playful. The rooms are each done in the style of a different year, 1950-1988 (I think), except for the King Suite that we were in for two nights in the 1925 Great Gatsby style. Besides nice rooms, the property has nice sitting areas (we enjoyed the deck area), a game room with pool table, foosball table and a variety of board games, an inexpensive laundry for guests, two outdoor grills (that we put to use), a horseshoe pit, a giant chess game outside, AND a very cool swinging bench area (set up in a semi circle facing a covered TV). The staff is absolutely wonderful. Breakfast is a combo of coffee and tea, premade waffles, burritos and tamales (easy to heat in the microwave), bagels, muffins, cereal and some fruit. There’s probably more I haven’t thought of that my husband and I liked, but I’ll leave it at that. You get the idea. We’d like to be back if we travel to Cortez again.

My group of 8 really enjoyed our stay. The motel was cute, charming, and had a fun, quirky personality that made it stand out from the typical chain motels. Our room was very clean and comfortable. One of my favorite features was the outdoor seating area both outside our room and on the lawn-it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The giant chess board was a unique touch and a lot of fun. Overall, it was a great stay, and we would definitely return if ever in the area again.

For an older motel, the property is well maintained. The rooms are numbered by year .i.e and themed, ours was Marilyn Monroe

The staff were friendly and helpful, but the most outstanding feature was an enclosed dog run. After traveling for 8 hours it was great to let the dogs wander off leash and it had plenty of room.

We visited Colorado for a week and stayed at five budget-friendly hotels in different cities. This hotel was by far the best among them. The staff were exceptionally friendly, prompt, and helpful throughout our stay. All the amenities met or exceeded our expectations, and the overall experience was excellent. We had an absolutely wonderful time at the retro inn. We stayed in the Gatsby suite and it was beautiful. We mentioned that one of our party was disabled and they were so lovely and put out a little ramp to help us navigate the few stairs - we didn't even ask them to! Staff were absolutely lovely and the room was absolutely gorgeous.

We spent six days at the Retro and had a group of 10 people; one of our couples was in the room with the full kitchen and an outside patio. We took over the patio and used the BBQ. We played pool, cribbage, foosball, and sat and visited on the couches. We played corn hole and sat on the lawn by Elvis. We flew in to Cortez and rented a car from Rentz Rental. We did day trips to Mesa Verde, Aztec Mesa, and Telluride. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and we totally enjoyed our stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay there again.

The motel has a cool retro vibe, reminiscent of 1950’s motels. Our room was clean and comfortable. Each room seems to have an individual parking space right outside the room. Spacious room. We left our well behaved dog in the room for a couple of hours in air conditioning, while we visited Mesa Verde national park. The staff is helpful. The Hotel’s aesthetic is very nice, very “classic American”. I was able to call ahead and tell the staff that my partner would check in first (my partner was not listed on the booking) but the staff was amicable and let her into the room while I arrived and checked in hours later. Other hotels would have not been so understanding.

This place was SO fun! We just had one night here as part of a road trip, and this was the place we wished we could spend more time. My family (2 adults, 2 older kids) stayed in the Woodstock Room and got an absolute kick out of the decor (black lights, water beds, etc). My parents (who were not interested in sleeping on a waterbed) stayed in one of the normal rooms but really liked the John Wayne decor.
The whole property looked like a fun place to come back to with family for a small reunion. Breakfast was very good as well. It was very convenient to dining in town, to Walmart to pick up a few things we'd run out of on the road trip, and to Mesa Verde NP.
We hope to return someday!

A great place to stay if you are traveling with Pets! They have a nice dog park as well as plenty of outdoor space for pup to enjoy being outside with you.
The rooms were cute and had nice touches to add to the overall Retro experience.

It has a lot of fun things to do like bench swings, corn hole games, giant chess game, retro phone booth, etc.
The decor is retro.

Clean basic motel room at a very reasonable price.
Very close to Mesa Verde NP.
Convenient parking right in front of room.
Overall very quiet room and location.
Internet was blazing fast.
Only downside was the smell of hydrogen sulfide from the tap during our entire stay there. Tinted the water light yellow. Mentioned to front office and was told there was water main break. Said no one else reported a problem. However it was unpleasant nevertheless and hopefully gets resolved soon.

Not a fan of the decor. It was essentially an old motel that was refurbished and hyped as modernized through a retro/50s decor. IMHO it doesn’t work. BUT, the mattress was excellent and the staff was superb. On the other hand, the breakfast consisted of items to be microwaved, Overall, I would give it a C to C- and I wouldn’t go back again.

Very unique place - not your traditional motel. My room had (colorful) cinder block walls and black and white check floors, with plenty of retro decor. Sadly, the bright red retro landline phone was decorative rather than functional, but the yellow pages phone directory was reasonably recent. :-) Breakfast was simple, but had a 50s diner themed vibe throughout.

I thought I'd already left a review - but I'm happy to leave another. This hotel was FUN to stay at. The staff were amazing and the room was delightful. The rooms are years 1953, 1980, etc.... and each room reflects that time and place. The place is definately retro and I loved it. I want to stay there again and recommend it and the staff highly.

It is delightful and well located, and the people are wonderful - very willing and able to help with anything you need or information you might want.

As I mentioned, if I am in that general vicinity again, I WILL stay there.... check out the Woodstock room! Water beds and all... hippy haven <3 And for any Elvis people out there - his lovely self is all over the place...

When we go to Cortez, my husband and I usually stay at the Retro Inn. It is clean, comfortable, and affordable. It is an older hotel, but is well maintained. The staff is friendly and the breakfast is adequate.

This is such a cute place. Each room is themed. We were in the Elvis room. The motel lobby has a great vibe and a nice breakfast layout with plenty of space for seating. There is laundry on site which is nice. Our room was fun but needs a little maintenance and touch up. Comfortable stay.

We travel through Cortez fairly regularly and always stay at The Retro. It is super convenient, clean and quiet. Beds are comfy and the showers are incredible. We really like the good old style of motel where you can back your car up to the door, sit out on the porch and relax and feel comfortable.
