Overall, my experience was great. The hotel is within walking distance of the Forodhani Market, several lounges, plenty of restaurants, and even the port for Prison Island—very convenient! It’s a cozy and charming place to stay.

However, on my last day, there were issues with their payment system. The card machine kept saying \"Offline,\" but management made it seem like I didn’t have the money to pay 🙃. This was frustrating, especially since the machine hadn’t worked a few nights earlier either. I was forced to go to an ATM, pay a withdrawal fee, and return to settle my balance—even though it was clearly a technical issue on their end.

When I asked for a receipt, their printer wasn’t working either, and there was no apology for the inconvenience or the way the situation was handled. I really think management should train staff on how to deal with these situations better, as it did leave a sour note at the end of an otherwise lovely stay.

Very nice stay. The hotel is central and very near to main point and 4 min walk from the harbor where exceusions are. The staff were very nice. They upgraded our room for the first night.
Cons: it is written free parking however the parking is not free and despite discussing the issue, we understood that it is not their problem if it was written free in the booking site! So we had to pay 1000 tzs per hour.
In the common parts there is lots of mosquitos.

This was our second time staying at Beyt al Salaam. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. From start to finish, the staff were friendly, welcoming, and always helpful. People went out of their way to help us. The room was kept clean and serviced. There is a restaurant that serves delicious food. The hotel is conveniently located in a lovely part of Stonetown and near to the beach. What made this stay so wonderful was the staff at the hotel who are simply brilliant. Thank you!

Horrible experience with manager at check in, might be trying to SCAM foreigners, be cautious. Hotel restaurant food had me sick for a day and a half of my 4 day trip, AC leaking all over the floor, shower wouldnt drain properly, constant noise outside room window from 2 am til 4 am, none of the remotes worked for the TV that would just get louder and louder on its own. She said she upgraded my accommodations for no charge and allowed me to check in early where early check in is an option listed for property and the room was the exact one i booked and paid for after arguing with me in front of other guests for 2 hours saying that my booking was never confirmed because i didn't pay enough according to her. Lied about emailing me regarding airport transfer that took 3 days for a response in the first place and no response through expedia messaging either. For a slightly more expensive establishment, treatment and property not worth it. Was a last minute choice that I would never make again nor would i recommend. Third time in Zanzibar and this hotel definitely soured what should have been a relaxing getaway as it usually is.

This is my second stay there. One thing that need to be improved is renovation as hotel is very old. House keeping does not fill room with coffees, teas when it's run out. Restaurant serves breakfast at 7 but staff does not come until 7:40. No beach towels even though hotel is closer to the beach. Those things need some improvement but other than that the area around hotel is nice, the old charm of the hotel is beautiful. But it looks like when staff see gay couple traveling together they gave you very unpleasant look

Poor manager decisions

Hotel overbooked, they had us going to a temporary stay, and then after one night coming back to the original hotel. How uncomfortable is having to check-out and check back in interrupting your stay/holidays. I was there for three days, and it ruined my entire second day for having to change hotel due to they overbooked. I booked my stay ahead of time, so it was not a last minute booking, no excuses.

The location is absolutely perfect for anyone who wants to walk around Stonetown. Several wonderful cafés and restaurants are nearby and pretty much everything is walking distance. The Beyt is an older simpler hotel much like Tembo House hotel. But everything is clean and good condition. Breakfast is simple but more than enough. The staff are friendly and sweet — a big thanks to Diana for making my check in and check out fast and easy!

The AC wasn't working and the plumbling in the room wasn't working and they couldn't put me in another room because they said they were sold out. I wanted to move to another hotel because I was not staying in those conditions they had the audacity to charge me for one night even though it was their fault I couldn't stay there. Never will I be looking at the hotel again. Never again.

I was seeking a charming boutique hotel for my stay in Stonetown, and Beyt Al Salaam exceeded my expectations. The staff were courteous and attentive, and went over and beyond. They all delivered exceptional service. As a single female traveler I felt safe and welcomed. Very comfortable and well-equipped room (aircon, fridge, kettle), serviced daily. Super friendly and helpful staff. Lovely restaurant in the hotel where breakfast served and other meals available. Excellent wifi. Cherry on the top was the swimming pool. Conveniently located with easy access to beach and Stonetown. Would happily stay here again.

The property is in a quieter part of Stone Town but easily walkable to everything. I was disappointed with a ground floor room, meaning I couldn't open windows or curtains due to lack of privacy. It was a bit noisy to be directlya cross from Reception as well. On arrival, I was moved to another hotel for my first night because there was no room for me. I noticed other customers also had issues with mgmt and booking confusions, so I think systems could be improved - though this might also be a problem with Expedia. Overall, the room itself was nice and staff were pleasant.

A darling smaal hotel. Woody, a la colonial feel. Tremendous bathroom. Perfect location. Can wander across the street to use the terraces of the much more expensive hotels. An additional charm is the swimming pool, hidden in a lovely garden a few blocks away.

Beautiful spacious room, mostly quiet except for early mornings when the taxis park nearby the hotel and open and close the doors. Lovely breakfast. Wifi was mostly working. Warm water was an issue. Was always fixed within a few minutes but still unpleasant when you can’t just take a shower whenever you want. Room description was not accurate. The room did not have a king size bed.

Best quiet little hotel in Stonetown

Lovely gem in the middle of Shangani just steps from the beach, near all the great restaurants, the street shopping, and down the road from the famous night market. The ground floor has a fantastic restaurant and a very good spa. The wifi was fast and the staff went out of their way to take care of us. It was nice to stay in a smaller hotel with a more local feel.

Great place!

We stayed at this lovely boutique hotel where the staff were fantastic, especially Bianca and Rukia, who went out of their way to help us.
The room was lovely, but it had a major problem with the electrics and a leak in the bathroom. They didn’t have any other rooms available at the hotel, so they moved us to the Doubletree next door. Despite the inconvenience, the staff were amazing and did everything they could to keep us happy, so thank you! Great location and good food too. Highly recommended!

It is called a Boutique Hotel, which I guess means small and old. The \"ornate bathroom\" was just oddly assembled, with only the basics provided. There was something stuck in the sink and I called attention to it in a note to housekeeper but it was not cleaned out. The spaciousness of the rooms was nice but not altogether easy to use. WIFI was intermittent, perhaps due to a fair amount of rain.
The bed was very comfortable, and the AC worked well in our room.
The people were helpful and friendly.
In the restaurant the breakfast was fine. Their famous coconut crab soup was wonderful. And Amina, a server in the evening, was totally delightful and conversational!

When we return we were told that they have stopped selling online and that they were fully booked even though our reservation was confirmed and pre-paid through hotels.com - we had to spend the night finding another hotel! Igood value. have dined at tge outstanding restoin this hotel over tge tears and finslly, the price on a room dropped low enough that I took a room 4 one night. The decor is bery atmosphetic---Arabian Nights---, but the rooms are dated. Fabulous bathroom with an Arabic-arch shower, but otherwise not a good value. And the stairs up to the 2nd floor are quite steep---a real struggle with bsggage. Superb breakfast and friendly and accommodating staff.

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel.
- check-in seemed a bit complicated. I had to show my booking confirmation as proof that I had paid already. Also, when I signed the check-in document from the hotel, I noticed the room number was not what I had asked for (they had put me on first floor when I had booked a superior room which was on the higher floors). I mentioned it to them and was then put in the correct room
- A/C in the room worked well. The room was clean and comfortable, although the bed was a bit high!
- kitchen staff was incredible. The lady who worked there was very kind and helpful
- they were very kind to let me check-in earlier

Zanzibar Visit

Bey al Salaam is conveniently located in a quiet close to the airport and is within walking distance of many sites around stonetown. The hotel is well maintained and the rooms are very comfortable and have been decorated with local culture rather than being a standard hotel. The staff were more than happy to help with requests and ensure that stay was comfortable. The food offered was good when tak,although I believe that whe coamped to other local restaurants then the costs fro hotel is higher and did not offer the high quality of elsewhere.

This is a very decent hotel, especially for the money. Not quite boutique as advertised but good overall. It's situated near the Hyatt and other bigger hotels in a quiet area of town. We stayed in the ground floor room, just off the reception area, but wasn't disturbed by any noise. Reasonable size room with fridge, quiet aircon, tea/coffe facilities etc. Nice dining area and with a good choice of breakfast items and tasty and well presented.
It's just a short walk to the beach and plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. Also close walking distance to the fort, house of wonders and major attractions.
Would stay here again.

We thought the old building was very characterful, and despite being on the top floor facing the afternoon sun, the air con managed the 34 plus degree fairly well. The staff were charming, and Germana was very helpful. Our lunch of squid and octopus was excellent, though we thought it pricey overall - but then you're in a near-waterfront locale where Hilton and Doubletree are neighbours...

People were helpful but sometimes there was nobody in reception. So when I needed something, I should wait. Room was clean as much they can. But there was no amenities what they wrote it in website. Even I booked 2 rooms for 4 people, 1 room was so small. It was for single. Bed was so small for two. nevertheless, People were kind and restaurant was so nice and perfect.

It was a nice stay and in a nice part of Stone Town (we had stayed before in a not so nice part). Close to boutique shops and within walking distance from the water. Pleasant restaurant and rooms with an old charming feel. Nice staff. Only problem came on the last day when we were double-charged for the taxi ride to the airport (we realized that after we got home).

Small Boutique Hotel with excellent staff

We recently enjoyed 2 nights at the Beyt al Salaam Hotel in Stonetown. The hotel is centrally located, surrounded by green mature trees. The staff is friendly and we got a free room upgrade to a larger room with sea views. The room itself was spotless and included a mini fridge and AC. The included breakfast was simple but delicious. This hotel has a lot of character and you will enjoy the hospitality of Juma and his staff. We highly recommend this hotel to everyone traveling to Zanzibar.

We had an amazing stay at Beyt al Salaam in Stonetown. Our room was beautiful, with traditional Zanzabari decor, and very spacious. We loved having the fridge and kettle in the room. The breakfasts (included) were delicious, with lots of options, and the location is perfect for exploring Stonetown on foot. Absolutely recommend!

Hotels.com is unable to confirm when you book certain room types.
I booked two superior rooms (based on pictures from website, but when arriving only received one room that fit the pictures. I was told the other room was also superior, but it was in no way comparable to the true superior room. When requesting a refund from Hotels.com for the difference between a standard and superior room, i was left wanting. I won't be using Hotels.com again, and won't be staying in Beyt al Salaam.

Perfect location, great value for money

This little hotel is nestled between the big boys: the Park Hyatt, the Serena, the Hilton. The location can't be beat. The bed is comfy. The WiFi is the best we've experienced in Africa (in three months now!).

It has air conditioning. We recommend.

It's not as luxe as the places around, and there wasn't any soap in the bathroom which was a bit of a surprise, but the shower was nice :-).

We spent a fair amount of time pottering over to the Serena to enjoy the fabulous setting right at the tip of Stone Town for a sunset cocktail in a luxury setting at a better price: the hotels are close enough that you can almost still get Beyt WiFi from the Serena!

Good location, just ok hotel.

Some charm, like arched doorways and decorative details. Bathroom horrible--all aspects of it. Terrible mattress. No views, maybe a wall of a building, for many rooms. Pay much more for an ok view of the green space in front. Great location with much more expensive hotels nearby.

Paying over $100/night I expected much more. I feel lost the time I spent scouring reviews did not help me here. Pros: really nice staff, good walkable location to attractions in town, our booking included breakfast. Cons: the facilities were old. Charm, sure-- but everything was crusty. The Windows had cracks around the edges to let noise and bugs in. The curtains were not functional. The bathroom toilet leaked after our first flush. While they sent someone in to caulk it, so there was no new water on our floor, the rest of the 3 nights we were there the bathroom reaked of poop. We booked two rooms. Only one had hand towels or soap. Again, if the price were right I would have been willing to rough it. But with so many other hotels in the area, I wish I had stayed elsewhere.

Small hotel with excellent location. Close to everything incl a 1 minute waök to beach. Fantastic staff. AC worked well in my room but no AC in common parts like breakfast room/resto and it got very hot n humid. Hotel 3 floors with steep stairs (like many other hotels i Stonetown) and no elevator. Pictures not correct though and no Spa and there are no rooms with seaview. Booked room twice and had two different rooms 204 very small w a view of a wall. 203 spacious w garden view. Breakfast ok w good omelette/scrambled etc but not much else to choose from.

A not well managed boutique hotel in Stone Town.

The hotel is simple. Has about 2 staff in the front office on shifts. If one of the two is absent then you can't be assisted with simple queries.
They charge patrons additional taxes which have been paid in advance and there are arguments on check out.
Saddest thing is that they raise issues with your booking or payment on checkout when you are running after your flight. I ended up leaving money just to save my flight.
A bad experience in Zanzibar.

Beautiful Hotel, Great Location, Amazing Staff!

The hotel is in an excellent location in the heart of historic Stowntown. It is situated in the middle of the larger chain hotels and only one block from the beach. Everyone at the hotel was very warm and welcoming, and was extremely helpful in offering suggestions for day and evenings events. The room was beautifully decorated, with an extremely comfortable bed and large bathroom/shower. The wifi was fast and worked great throughout the hotel, including the rooms. The restaurant located on the first floor of the hotel is excellent as well!

Very nice boutique hotel in Stone town.

This booking was a bit last minute as we were already in Zanzibar. We were extremely fortunate to find this hotel. Room was big and comfortable in the third level. Beautiful old wood decorations. Very clean. Quiet. Had meals at the restaurant a few times and all were very good. Location was close to bars, restaurants, shopping and a small beach.

We booked this hotel in advance through Expedia for 8 times what we would have paid on site! The room ceiling was high, AC and fans were great, décor was also nice. The bed was way too soft, the windows closed with significant gaps (think noise and bugs) and the hotel was next to a mosque (after sundown and before sunrise calls to prayer get old real fast if you are not a practicing Muslim). Hotel staff were wonderful and the restaurant on site is absolutely great!

A small, friendly hotel with character

Beyt al Salaam (\"House of Peace\") is just right if, like me, you hate those big, soul-less concrete boxes. It's been recently refurbished, rooms decorated in \"local\" style but with mod cons like electronic key, mini-bar and safe (and a large TV which looks slightly incongruous). Our standard double was quite small but the deluxe rooms are more spacious. Housekeeping standards are high, including evening \"turn down\" service. The restaurant is excellent, with a small menu featuring mainly local fish and fruit and very attentive service. Breakfast will set you up for the day. Reception staff were very helpful and recommended a good local guide.

Welcoming, charming, well-priced boutique hotel

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Beyt al-Salaam, and would absolutely return there in the future. The staff was extremely responsive and each individual I spoke with was genuinely nice and welcoming. The bed was excellent, the water was hot, and everything was clean. Decor throughout the hotel was really cool and in typical Zanzibari fashion. The restaurant was also excellent and the design of it was great, albeit slightly expensive. At $65 a night off of hotels.com, it is also a pretty solid deal for one of the nicer places in Stone Town. The only thing that could be improved would be to have a swank rooftop like some of its rival hotels (which are more expensive) such as the Maru Maru.

Nous avions réservé pour deux personnes et le lit devait faire que 90 cm en largeur donc à deux c’est un peu limite à part ça. Pour le reste c’est très moyen à part la piscine qui est extraordinaire.
