Party of 1 fisherman. I stayed 10 days in Nov 2025. Friendly helpful staff. Decent room especially considering the low cost. Not a 5 star hotel by but that was a given... Most (all?) the rooms are at ground level. I prefer that. Decent heat/air conditioning. Decent shower. Decent tv. Good ice machine. I filled my cooler several times. I have booked 2 weeks for my Nov 2026 trip. Cost was a big factor.

Was affordable BUT the motel feels and looks a bit run down. In my room the flooring was all loose, parts of the molding missing from the doors, mismatched paint, paint on the curtains, bathroom was missing the part of the handle that latches the door shut, mattress was old and bedding was in poor condition.

My husband and I go to Montrose often for weekend getaways. We have been staying in Black Canyon Motel for the last approximate 10 visits. Each time we go we notice the motel getting worse. There is always a problem with the room. Sometimes the TV doesn’t work, we have had the refrigerator open and defrosted all over the floor, the breakfast is not good(when there is any). We will be finding a new place to stay when we go to visit Montrose in future.

I would not stay here again. First, the card entry system is screwed up and I had to have the night manager let me in my room both nights. Second, the shutoff valve to the toilet was turned off, so no water until I figured out to turn on the water valve. Third, they take a photo copy of your driver's license. When I asked for the copy back at checkout, the manager couldn't find it. Made me nervous for identity theft.
The manager said they take a copy in case they have to call the police. What the...? Fourth, this is an older motel and the walls are very thin. You can hear the street noise from Highway 50. Fifth, the breakfast was not much more than a cup of coffee. Sixth, the AC was so loud that I turned it off to be able to sleep. My best recommendation is to tear the whole place down and start over.

The room itself was clean, but the bathroom’s overhead light was missing its cover, and there was quite a bit of dust and debris hanging down. I understand it’s an older hotel, but that maintenance issue was disappointing. Additionally, I experienced credit card fraud shortly after my stay — this was the only place I used that card during my trip, which is concerning.

The smell of stale cigarette smoke was overpowering. Sheets and blankets seemed clean but were stained. The pictures on Expedia certainly felt misleading. But, at the end of the day, there was hot water in the showers, we didn't spend a ton of money, and we were only there long enough to sleep. Could've been worse, but not much.

The room was very comfortable and clean. The deluxe double even had a jacuzzi tub. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The exterior is a little worn but everything else was great. It was the perfect accommodation to stay for a race I was in the next day. I wish I could have checked out their breakfast but had to leave too early.

Bypass if at all possible!

I guess my best way of putting it is - "How do places like this remain in business?" It's like they put makeup on a problem and tried telling you it was ok. Part of this problem is places like this are over rated by these booking companies. Outdated, over rated, uncomfortable and just not what is claimed about this place. Bypass if at all possible! Really.

Motel is in need of a full refurbishment. Our room was very tired and well used. It was clean and comfortable but in need of a full decoration including furniture. The reception staff were great,welcoming and very helpful. The breakfast was simple but more than adequate for the cost.

We have stayed in this motel in the past and it was well cared for and clean. The room we stayed in was so beat up and not cleaned properly. I was told that the family who used to own it sold it and sadly you can definitely tell. The sheets were thread bare. No coffeemaker in the room. Furniture had chips and cracks and the drawers had not been wiped out. Very disappointed. Used to be a gem.

Avoid this place. Called in advance to confirm our reservations the same day and then drove 5 hours. When we arrived they couldn’t find our reservations and we had to settle for a different room. Only had face towels in the room. The whole place felt unsafe with random folks wandering around. Walls paper thin-could hear everything next door.

Run down, overpriced. Air conditioner was blasting at 80 degrees when we walked in. It is up high so you have to use a remote. No battery in the remote. Went to office, they didn't have a battery so gave us another remote, "I don't know if it will work or not" Well no it didn't. My granddaughter had to climb up on a chair to lower the temp. Dirty washcloth hanging on the shower rod. The shower rod is in about 5 inches from the edge of the tub, leaving the curtain clinging to you during your shower. There was a smoke detector in the dresser drawer which would not stay shut. The other smoke detector was hanging from the ceiling by a wire, who knows if it even worked. Broken bed. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Stayed here several years ago, it was good. Now, First room was so smelly from weed had to be moved. 2nd room not as smelly but really old floors must have been flooded multiple times. Need updates badly. The bed was clean and the water was hot. They have cut all the trees down around the property. No shade anymore. The retaining walls around the rooms are busted out and just set back in place ready to fall on your foot! Need TLC. Won’t be back.

This property is outdated, dirty, and full of long-term residents who are extremely nosy, and rude. Light fixtures in the room were missing exposing wires, and the Fabuloso was so strong all our stuff smelled like it when we left. I thought I left something in the room, and when I called to ask, they said they would go check and call me back. That was last weekend and no one returned my call. What they charge is shameful for the room, and the drug den they call a property. Stay anywhere else. Sleeping in your car is better than here.

Well I really did not care for the establishment,. When I checked in my wife & I were assigned to a room which had no seating in the room & the bathroom door would not close. I complained & we were assigned a much better room. We had stayed there 4 years ago & it was very good. Our room had no clock no amenities like facial tissue. Breakfast like they advertise was nil coffee & cold cereal. I think Expidia should review this motel. Next time in Montrose we will certainly bypass Black Canyon motel

We'll start with the good stuff. The area between the sheets in the bed was clean and smelled good. The shower had lots of water pressure and lots of hot water, and the water quality was great too. So, I slept OK, and I had a nice shower, but that was about where the good stuff stopped.

The room I stayed in was.... unique, shall we say, in the sense that the air conditioner was on the ceiling with no remote controls. Chairs were missing from the table. The floor was warped. The fridge was really loud. And everything needed a fresh coat of paint or two.

It seemed well cared for and somebody was trying to clean it, but it just needs a lot of help. The area outside has pieces of stone and rubble, like a war zone. There was a broken window from the room next door, just laying on the ground... glass shards everywhere. They managed to put an orange cone on top of it but didn't pick it up, so kids are running by the broken glass. I don't know. I suppose some of the other rooms might have been better and I got the legit cheapest room on the Internet. But you get what you pay for, obviously.

The rooms aren’t cleaned between guests other than bedding change. The floors are filthy. Walking across them with white socks to the bathroom they turn black. Towels, we had to ask for the second day towels and none were washed. The third day we asked we were told people are stealing them so they don’t have very many. We ended up going to Walmart and buying towels to get us through the duration of our stay. In a nutshell, the place is a dump. Never again

Was told at check in that there was no water they were fixing it, and not to flush the toilet. They would inform us when it was fixed. About 3 hours later we went to front desk to ask and was then informed it was fixed. Also told at check-in that the continental breakfast was served 7am-9:30am. We got there at 8 and they had run out of food.

Had to ask for a roll of toilet paper on first day; no cereal or milk, slimy hard-boiled eggs, & only pop tarts & granola bars first morning (Saturday). Second morning there was half a container of cereal but no spoons & milk was going sour (Sunday). Third morning (Monday) there was cereal, milk, bowls & spoons and what looked like the same slimy eggs. Couldn't find an ice machine. We stayed at 4 different motels in 4 different states for this week-long trip. This was the most expensive and next to the worst motel we stayed in.

A night at the Black Canyon Inn

The motel is old and in need of a refresh. The room we stayed in was clean. The breakfast was pop tarts, yogurt, frozen burritos to microwave and a few other items. Styrofoam coffee cups and plates are still in use. Not terribly eco friendly. It worked for a night, but would not stay here again.

This property is not even worth staying at for $50 let alone over $100! Check in staff was terrible. TV did not work in room. Waited in the office for approximately 10 minutes for someone to come so we could get help with TV. Rooms need fixed up. Fell coming into room due to drop off into room. The room we were given when we checked in was sub-standard. A white painted handprint was on the blue curtain, a floorboard was coming up, trim was missing in parts of the ceiling and front doorway. Strange spots on the bedcover. Alarge dead bug in the door thresthold. The front door knob had broken through a side wood door and left a hole in it. Only one of 2 needed remotes were available for the tv. I could go on.
The only ray of sunshine was a couple working there - Ivan and his wife- were able to move us to another room. Without them our short stay would have been a near disaster. Many thanks to you both for your kindness and action. "D" rating to the lodge, "A" rating to the both of you.

So many bugs in the room, dirty sheets, no shower curtain, no knob to turn on the cold water in the shower, the view was of a junk space with so much trash out, was giving a smoking room and switched.
