A lovely holiday with fantastic staff, but let down by departure day.

Our recent stay here was genuinely lovely, largely thanks to the fantastic staff who were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our entire trip. The accommodation was excellent, the food was great, and the amenities were generally very good. If you are travelling with family, the kids' club is absolutely fantastic.

If you like to work out while away, be aware that the fitness/gym facility is quite poor. The space is very limited, and there is a distinct lack of weight training equipment available.

Unfortunately, our day of departure really put a dampener on the trip. We asked to keep our room for a short while to wash and change before our flight, but we were refused because \"new clients were arriving.\" Given that a large portion of the hotel's guests travel from the UK, the flight schedules meant it was highly unlikely new arrivals would be needing our specific room while we were still on the property. It gave us the distinct impression that the hotel was only interested in keeping new arrivals happy at the expense of departing guests.

Eventually, we were provided with a courtesy room to wash in, but the state of it was awful. It had a bad smell and was left in a total mess, complete with empty bottles and a huge pile of wet towels left behind.

We had a beautiful holiday, but the way we were treated on departure day was a very disappointing end to an otherwise great holiday

Room was small - even though it was an updgrade and didnt look like the picture on the website at all. I realise now that the picture we saw was of the garden rooms which are bigger - we werent given an option of remaining in this but were immediately shown to our 'upgraded' ocean view room which wasnt as nice
The staff had a very concedencing attitude at times - especially to the taxis and when i was checking out to me - unacceptable
an example. we sat to have a beer on the terrace my partner was wearing a swim suit - it was mid afternoon. One of your staff came up and told her to put a top on as it was the restaurant and she had to cover up. She didnt come over to us and say i'm extremely sorry but would you mind covering up but no she hectored my partner in a rude way - we didnt know this was the rule as no one had told us - just rude

the grounds of this hotel are nice and the beach is great. free non mechanised water sports is great. the room was well appointed with nice towels and toiletries. but the food was so bad. breakfast is a tiny area where the food is left uncovered and full of flies. Birds fly amok, probably cos tables are not cleared quickly enough (had no such problem in next hotel). orange juice is concentrate. pizza is not fresh despite being told it would be. Had a hair in y omelette. there was a drains smell in room
unless you had aircon on full. small low value personal item went missing from room but was returned when reported - very strange. Staff are generally lovely and the manager was very nice when we complained. Padel was great. It's a nice hotel but sadly let down by the food. Needs a rethink.

Breakfast was great.. Food and drinks at this location are unacceptably high priced; ridiculous actually. If you walk into town it's not much cheaper. With exception of 1 or 2 of the staff; most were not friendly at all which I found strange. Price gouging and affordability is my biggest complaint about this property.. even getting to the airport was 150.00 with no option for a cheaper method.

We had a wonderful stay. The food was average and certain things like the calamari and the fried banana chips were awful. Our room was excellent, clean and roomie. The transportation was spot on! The beach location is gorgeous, and the overall hotel is in an excellent and convenient area.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. All willing to help whether it be reception staff, beach staff, or any staff. Reception staff noticed from my passport that it was a special birthday for me so they left me a beautiful little birthday cake in my room! Room was spotlessly clean and well appointed. Bed was super comfortable.

The beach is gorgeous with safe swimming, and I love the gardens with the beautiful trees and plants, and the pools.

We truly loved so much about this hotel. The recent renovations are beautiful, and the location is absolutely perfect — easily one of the nicest stretches of beach compared to others nearby. The staff were wonderful throughout our stay, with Sandra standing out for her exceptional service.

A few small things could be improved. Morning coffee service was a bit hit-and-miss; on several occasions we ordered twice and it never arrived. The lunch menu is fantastic, but dinner didn’t quite measure up in comparison. And for anyone who enjoys working out, just note that the gym is very small — one bench, one mat, and limited space to move around. It would be great to see this upgraded in the future.

Overall, the hotel has a relaxing atmosphere and a lovely, chill vibe. If you go, ENJOY — it’s a beautiful place!

While this property is very nice (the room, grounds and beachfront) - we found the service and management to be sorely lacking and not in line with expectations for a luxury collection property. Our check in experience was abysmal (very slow, no smile, no welcome drink, no information, poor directions to the room). Staffing in the restaurant was way too low in busy periods, with guests waiting ages for food. We walked past a team meeting in the restaurant one day and the staff all looked like someone had died. Morale is clearly low. On our departure, we booked our airport taxi an hour in advance. No one (front desk, bell hop, management) thought to tell us the highway was closed for a car race, which meant a lot of stress getting to the airport with our 2 young kids. The GM did call our room to wish us happy Thanksgiving and inform us of the special menu - but that was on Thanksgiving, most people prepare beyond that. If I was Marriott HQ I would send someone down to run a review

The hotel was nice. The staff was AMAZING very nice and helpful. The value of what we paid was not what we expected. The hotel needs major updates. The bathrooms especially but otherwise the rooms are nice. But the price has to be revised because it’s very expensive compared to what you are receiving in return. Only 1 meal a day and no drinks. But because we were looking for rest and relaxation I guess it worked out.

The shower/ bath arrangements in our room 307 were just not safe. There was also a leak in the roof of the bathroom which despite informing maintenance about no one looked at during our stay.
The hotel is closing in April for a much needed refurb so some, though not all, of the staff were certainly demotivated.

Considering the exorbitant cost for one night at nearly 1300 USD I was disgusted. The rooms are very old and poorly appointed. The service in the restaurant and bar can only be described as “lack lustre” and I won’t be staying again until it’s been fully refurbished which starts in May.. and it’s closed for a year so there is a warning there.

Property is tired and needs knocking down and rebuilding - some parts look like a prison!! Round the Tennis Courts was disgraceful. Access to pool view rooms was similar to Alcatraz!!

This was a great property, staff were so kind and lovely. We stayed with our two little kids and they always were patient and kind to them! I will note however for parents with young kids, the main population here is older an: mostly a British. The older thing was kind of stressful because we didn’t want our kids to be too loud or annoy the other guests but we did the best we could!

Just a beautiful hotel, in a fabulous location. Love the pools and gardens, surrounding the rooms and dining areas. Thoughtfully landscaped.

The beach is beautiful with a raft to swim to. Very comfortable sunloungers. Watersports team, Jamar, Wayne and Dave are helpful, approachable and skilled. Fabulous to be encouraged to try water skiing again.

Hotel staff throughout the hotel are friendly. Buffet breakfast was delicious especially the omlettes.

Ok i have a two pronged approach to this review

If you are 50 and over and love silence, this hotel is perfect for your completely silent trip.

A lack of music is apparent from your arrival to departure.

If you are younger and want a little music and sound and fun with your afternoon rum punch look elsewhere.

It is quiet in every section of the hotel to the point of weirdness and is a completely “sterile environment”

A large reason I come
To this hotel was the rum vault and I was denied entrance for lack of availability for the entire week.

Beach is beautiful, walkable to other places. Staff is great.

And it won’t be the last. Atmosphere and location second to none. The hotel is about to have a 6 Month refurb next year to iron out any little niggles,
It should be pretty near perfect then. Only one minor issue , the attitude

Great week at The Colony Club

Loved the stay at The Colony Club. The staff were all great, the place itself certainly needs a little TLC (eg bathrooms and a couple of other areas) but I really hope the upcoming renovations by Marriott don't turn it into something that looks and feels just like a Marriott. The place has charm and an older Caribbean feel that makes it what it is, and everyone we talked to there pretty much loved it for that.

The staff couldn’t be nicer. Thanks to Carol for finding my phone at breakfast and tracking us down. Tyrone at bar was equally accommodating. Everything was lovely. One small quibble —please tell guests about water sports on checkin. We only found we could do some activity gratis toward end of stay. But beach, rooms, housekeeping and staff were great.

The reception staff were really great, so friendly and helpful. Same with the bell service guys, really felt welcome and taken care of.
The hotel is great but the rooms in the 3 story building by the beach are really tired and need upgrading. Leaks in the ceiling when it rained and obvious water damage in the rooms. The public areas are also tired and need improving. It could be really amazing if these things were done, otherwise I would say it was a good hotel on the low end of 4 stars not 4.5 stars. The beach is fabulous and so are the pools. The spa was also good and they are apparently going to expand it to a larger building. I did have one of the best massages ever.

We found the Colony Club to be a great choice. It is full of colonial charm with beautiful gardens. Our room was spacious and really well equipped. The pool area was excellent and it’s location directly on the beach is hard to beat. Breakfast was very good and the overall service from all the staff was first class. Absolutely nothing to fault and will definitely return.

An amazingly beautiful property. I especially love the way the hotel has incorporated nature as part of its infrastructure instead of bulldozing through it like some hotel chains do. You step outside of your room and you're immediately met with thriving, lush foliage, songbirds in tall, mature trees, flowering plants, and the peaceful sound of the Caribbean sea waves washing up on shore. I opted for a pool swim-up room so the pool was just steps away, and there was a cascading cliff waterfall outside my patio which made for an awesome ambience anytime I was out there.

Couple things I'd change about the room. You couldn't ask for better water pressure from the shower head, especially if you're like me and appreciate strong pressure BUT the bathtub was terribly outdated. Like from the 90s and it showed. Why they wouldn't opt to just go with a shower stall instead of a shower/tub combo is something I don't understand. I suspect they haven't gotten around to updating the bathrooms yet.

Another thing, the A/C unit is positioned on the wall beside the bed. Terrible place for it. You've got cold air blowing directly on you as you lie in bed so it's impossible to have a good night's sleep or even take a nap with the A/C on.

All that said, I'd stay at the Colony again. Water activities are included with your stay and I took advantage of the catamaran and paddle boarding. If you want to just lie on the beach you can do that too with complimentary umbrellas and lounge chairs.

What we liked: Hobie Cats, paddle boards and kayaks were included without additional charge. In particular appreciated the sailing instructor Keon(?) who was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun along with his colleague in the watersports office. Also, in the dining areas, one waitress, Sherlen, was outstanding and the ladies in the reception area were generally helpful. In general the architecture and grounds were very appealing in a sort of fusty old British Colonial sort of way.

What we did not like: Apart from the individuals mentioned above, the dining area staff were not particularly alert or energetic although they did do their jobs (albeit only eventually). the physical plant while charming in its way could use a bit of maintenance and general freshening up. There seems to be a problem with the water supply in the area as we were cut off for about 8 hours on our last day. The staff did distribute bottled water but they did not seem to have a plan for keeping the guests informed of what was happening. It sounds like the supply failure was area wide and not the hotel's fault but it does serve as a warning that the hotel should invest in some sort of emergency backup system like a cistern for water. We had no issues with electricity but I imagine that the electric grid is also pretty dodgy on the island and investment in backup power might also be a good idea,

All in all, we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend highly.

Wonderful hotel and swim up room

Lovely hotel. We had an incredible swim-up room. The main pool was still out of action - however positioned so that it seemed as if we had our own private pool and verandha. We couldn’t have asked for better. The staff were wonderful and gave us an automatic discount each night as the main pool was being maintained. This is the best hotel on the that stretch of the coastline (bar Sandy Lane!). Easy to walk into Holetown along the beach.

Our stay at the Colony Club was amazing, relaxing and staff was wonderful. We had a swim up pool to our patio that was a first for us. The food and service was also amazing. The only negative was construction on the main pool and the noise of the jackhammer during the day.

Colony Club advertises itself as a 5* star hotel with nightly fees for a 5* hotel.
We got there and the room wasnt ready which was fine. We decides to go have lunch, only there were no available tables, the service was dire and we'd been travelling 13hrs. What wasnt fine was being told the room would be ready at 3pm, then a few minutes after 3. Then we were told it was a change over room and guests had only just left. We requested a different room only to be told no!
We asked to speak with a manager- they were all miraculously in a meeting yet eventually a very nice lady came and sorted.
Overall the service was super slow, it took 30mins gor someone to serve coffee.
We were never told the main pool was under construction, not when we booked, or during the brief communication from the hotel.
Dinner was ridiculous, items were left off of the order, for example, we ordered blackened fish, which was supposed to come with a sauce and cauliflower. The fish came, it was dry, overcooked and no accompliments as per the description. This particular dinner took 45 minutes before we got served. An 1.5hrs before we got the main course.
After that, if we ate in, we ordered room service at 6pm and then hoped we got it under 2hrs.
The room amenities- the room was cleaned super late every day, we were often back in from activities, the amenities such as shower caps were never replaced and tissues were never replaced.
We didnt use anything from the mini bar yet we got charged for items.

I had a strange check-in where I wasn’t given any information about breakfast times, check-out time, available facilities, and was made to wait for quite a long time to get my room.

Breakfast was ok, but there was a morning when I had to ask for tea 3 times before they brought
It, and 5 minutes after they brought the pot, they took away my cup.

Food at the restaurant was good, but service levels are patchy. Some of the wait staff were lovely, some made you feel they would prefer you not to be there.

The beach in front of the hotel was nice. Lovely white sands. However, seems not enough deck chairs.

For the prices that are being charged, I was expecting a much better experience.

Workers so very nice but OMG this propery is so overpriced for the quantity of the rooms and the service. For over $800 per night it should have been better. I know this peak season but i couldnt help to be disappointed in the quantity of the hotel. Place photographs well but up close is in need of a remodel. Even my friend that live on the island in a high end development was shocked price and the appearance of rooms.

HUGE Disappointment & Frustration.

The worst service we’ve ever encountered. Staff with few exceptions seemed to resent serving their guests. Especially staff at reception who were rude, aggressive and tried to overcharge us several times. From a dinner that was charged twice to an extra night they tried to charge despite the fact that we had booked the entire stay through hotels.com and the booking confirmed this. And it didn’t even end there. Never an apology for their „mistakes“.
This place is far to expensive for this subpar level of service and disrespect to their guests.
The property also needs upgrades in many areas, especially the bathrooms. The swim-up rooms actually share the patio with the upstairs room, so no privacy on the patio which is right in front of the bedroom. This wasn’t mentioned in the description.
On the plus side are the garden which is beautiful and the very comfortable lounge chairs on the beach. Unfortunately we felt so unwelcomed that this wasn’t enjoyable for us. We will NEVER return to Colony Club.

Highly recommend - would return in a heartbeat

Accomodation - room was exactly as pictured inside. roomy and clean. We booked a swim up room and were confused when we were taken to the second floor - there was a small stair case from our balcony to the pool - in the end we preferred this because it meant more privacy and more protection from the rain.

The grounds were well kept and well designed. Absolutely beautiful! The main pool is currently under maintenance, we were alerted to this before we went. there are 3 other pools and an ocean with ample seating, so the closure did not impact our stay in the least. The beach is beautiful.

Breakfast - cooked buffet was ample and elements changed daily.
It is also worth saying that as someone with a celiac diagnosis, I always had options and staff at the resort were helpful. The club sandwich was very tasty. At breakfast things were not marked, but I had options.

Staff were all friendly and very helpful.

Did not expect the activity options available! we did a fishing excursion, island tour and glass bottom boat tour - all at no extra charge (we did provide gratuities). Paid for the shuttle to oistin's fish fry on the friday and highly recommend, we had a great time. They also have lots of kids activities running - there weren't a lot of children during our stay.

We had a lovely stay in Barbados but were disappointed with this hotel. The main pool was closed for maintenance, had been for some weeks and was likely to be closed for several more but no one informed us - very disappointing when this is one of the hotels main features. When we arrived late evening we decided to have a snack on the deck before an early night, a waitress said she'd bring across a menu, we were still waiting for the 30 mins later so we had to go into the restaurant. Happy hour was between 4-6 but the service was so slow you'd be lucky to be served 2 drinks in that time, (just not enough staff to deliver)
On arrival the phone in our room didn't work, we informed reception and within minutes maintenance had brought a replacement which also didn't work. We were told they'd resolve it the next day but the phone still didn't work when we left. I was locked in the ladies toilet cubicle and had to be released by another guest. We had to queue to get into breakfast on a number of occasions this was up to a 10-minute wait sitting in the foyer (there were plenty of tables, but the staff couldn't prepare them quickly enough) They decided to do tree maintenance in the grounds and pool area during our stay- we weren't given any notification so when we returned to our loungers after a walk, the beach the area was cordoned off and our belongings were all over. We visit Barbados regularly and this is the only hotel where guests could be heard complaining on a daily basis.

I enjoyed our stay at the Colony Club a lot. It was very clean and safe and nice. The staff were very friendly and nice. One criticism I have is that the service during breakfast was very slow - we had to wait a lot to receive basic service. Other than that it was great overall!

Very clean and well laid out. Location first class. Rooms have not changed since my last visit pre Covid and are in need of a refresh. Food good ,service slow and at times surly apart from Nicholas amd Matthew , beach amd pool attendants. Always smiling amd very efficient. A nice touch, serving hors d’oeuvres around the pool, and fruit. Breakfast full and good. Love the swim up rooms.

The staff was friendly, awesome service! Their service was a '10'. But the facility is not worth the money spent. For what I spent, I could have enjoyed a 5 star in Dubai. It needs updating. I was very disappointed in the cleanliness and location of the room, as I did complain. The hotel was advertised as an all-inclusive, but that was not 'true'. The staff is what made it for me...other than that I would not stay in this hotel again.

I stayed in the hotel in late April, essentially in off-season. The property has unique exterior spaces and comfortable, functional rooms. The beach is small but picturesque. Some parts of the complex would benefit from a refurbishment in the coming years. More drinks to select in the bar, including the pool bar, would be advisable. The breakfast is lovely and has many healthy choices. The dine-in options are meeting just the standards for a 4-star hotel. Overall, it is definitely recommended.

A Perfect Stay in Barbados!

We had an amazing stay at Colony Club! On arrival we had a free room upgrade, complimentary drinks and a bottle of rum punch. From thereon out, staff were very friendly and helpful. Room service was prompt and excellently presented. The pool was very chilled out, the bar served excellent cocktails, the breakfast buffet was always great. We're both vegan, and they accommodated us wonderfully, with a roast squash main and a roast veg club sandwich which we had multiple times! This is one of the first hotels I'd be happy to come back to and stay again. Highly recommended.

The property is shabby and the rooms out of date. The baths are too short. Things kept breaking - the lamps, the fan for example. The staff (front desk, beach and poolside) are wonderful apart from the breakfast team who were mostly awful and sullen. I found your food prices exceptionally high for what you got. Yes it was good enough but certainly not excellent. Shame. There are some excellent restaurants outside the hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed and didn't resent paying good money for. I loathed the hassle to reserve sun beds on the beach. If you did get up at 6.30am and get one, they were so close together it was uncomfortable.

An Elegant, Relaxing Getaway!

We loved our time at the Colony Club. The staff was incredibly attentive and available. The room was comfortable and well stocked with extras like yoga mats, freshly made fudge! There were many included amenities (such as waterskiing and an ample and delicious breakfast buffet) without feeling like an 'all-inclusive.' There were plenty of lounge chairs by the pool and at the beach so we didn't have to wake up early to reserve them. We would come back!!

We stayed at the Colony Club for 5 nights in early November 2019. The best part about this hotel is its location and beach. Of all the hotels nearby, Colony Club has one of the nicest beaches. It's also only a 10 minute walk south along the beach to a bunch of restaurants and the town. The service is my biggest complaint. There are a lot of regulars or \"returning guests\" who seem to be treated with a higher level of service than those who are staying with the hotel for the first time. Also, the lunch at the hotel was not very good and overpriced. Other than that, our ocean view room was wonderful and the breakfast buffet was delicious. I would say Colony Club is the nicest of the mid-tier hotels on the island that won't break the bank.

JULY 2019 stay. The colony club is on the smaller side but nonetheless a really nice vacation. The beach is small but the water is absolutely amazing. No need to save chairs, they will set up chairs upon your arrival.

We stayed in a king pool view 229. It was cute, clean and well taken care of. The AC does not go higher than 16c and for the 1st day or 2 the maid kept lowering it to 23. It’s way too hot and humid to be playing with the AC regardless that it leaked. Other than that the accommodations were fine. Where we were it felt like we were in a private jungle like garden setting, very pretty.

The food at this resort was top notch. From the free breakfast spread to the Tues night buffet and ala carte dinners, everything we ate was excellent. Try the BUSHWACKER drink it’s fantastic.

The service, although the staff is very friendly and accommodating, the service is a bit slow. I think it’s just a very laxed way of life for the islanders and they don’t realize they have 2 speeds, slow and slower lol. This is not your typical 4-5 star kind of service but again it was fine. In 5 days we were never once approached on the beach or by the pool and offered drinks, we had to get up and get them. That kind of stinks when you’re on vacation.

It rains daily on and off be careful it’s slippery. I fell cracked my knee and another guest broke her arm.

This is a very British hotel.90% brits who are lovely people too, very friendly to us Americans.

This property is boutique in feel and size. It is well maintained and comfortable. Furthermore, the beach is beautiful. It is clean and the water is pristine. The staff is pleasant and friendly, but certainly on island time. We wanted to disconnect and relax, and this trip was perfect for that.
