The walls are pretty thin. The couple staying next to me fought off and on a large portion of the evening, as in screaming at each other. I could also hear the folks below me. And somewhere in the building there were children that were pretty loud as well. I’m glad mostly everyone was having a nice vacation but some type of insulation or ways to mitigate the noise would be a great idea for management to implement .
I loved having the opportunity to paddle board but it’s pretty obvious that equipment hasn’t been updated, cleaned, or replaced in a while.
The actual room was very clean, and the view was incredible. The staff was also extremely friendly and helpful.

The location was fantastic. The ocean, the trees, the wildlife. The room was dark. There was a small refrigerator but no microwave unless you walked up the hill to the dining area. The heater in the bathroom was broken and the heater in the living area hummed all night. Lots of hot water. Comfortable bed Not a terrible spot but not worth the price

The room was filthy with spider webs In The corners and spiders and other creepy crawlers in the sink and bathtub. We endured the additional night of our two night stay—we should not have as I was bitten by
Something at night and my entire right elbow area was swollen and hot. I will enclose a photo of my elbow. I was also bitten on the shoulder area and the top of my thighs. Not sure what it was. The view was gorgeous but not worth the bites.

More like camping than a resort

Dark and dingy room. Very very outdated. It was not the cleanest. The 24/7 coffee pot was always empty in the morning before breakfast and no tea water available. It was difficult to get hot water to shower. It was a long dirt road through the woods to get to the “resort”. It was very hard to find a trash can and they were full. Outside by the dock smelled strongly like sewer. This was definitely more a camping vibe than a resort. Also there is not anywhere to get food less than 20 minutes away and more likely 30-40 minutes. Pack your pb&j. We will not be back.

The oceanfront location is really nice, the beds were comfortable and it was clean. Breakfast was good.

The room was large and roomy. The bed was comfortable. The room temperature was easy to adjust. We had a corner room with a patio facing the harbor. Our door had a sliding screen door , which none of the other units in our building had, and it was nice to have the fresh Maine air breeze. I enjoyed my early morning dunkin ( purchased the night before) before the rest of humanity was awake. Breakfast items were hot and there were many additional choices. Dinning room was comfortable and clean.
There were a few disappointing things, however. I was aware that the establisment was somewhat rustic, but some upgrades would be in the best interest of the owners and patrons. Our parking area was on such a slanted slope, it was difficult to get in and out of our vehicle and there was high probability of car damage by other vehicles hitting each other by swinging doors. There was \"garbage\" on the ground just outside the dining hall in the tree area...disposable forks and knives AND a disposable used woman's product!!!! This was still there the next day!!!! There needs to be more attention to little details! Our shower curtain was NOT clean. It had pink staining all along the lower portion. This is unsanitary and is caused by a microbe. Shower curtains are not that expensive and should be bleached or replaced occasionally. Our towels had multiple yellow stained areas.... Needless to say...we did not shower!
I might recommend this establishment to others but would warn them about the iss

Property and rooms are pretty dated. Handrails and stairs leading to upper floors are not very safe. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Breakfast was great as everything was homemade including real maple syrup. It was economical for being on the water so I would probably use again. Staff were friendly and helpful.

This is my 4th stay at Ocean gate. The views and location are amazing. Check in was easy however we asked to switch rooms. I paid for an ocean view and the patio was facing the ocean but the view was obstructed by trees. I don’t think this room should be sold as “ocean view.” It was no problem to switch. The rooms are ok. Beds are ok. They are clean. Definitely an “old musty” smell. Each year I was told by staff that this resort is more of “camp away from home.” And “we have plans for renovations for next year.” Heck last year there were signs everywhere with pictures of what the rooms would look like. It’s looked the same every year. There is a nice pool. Tons to do with kiddos. Mini golf. Kayaking. The breakfast is the biggest plus. Stephanie told us about the local general store. They had amazing sandwiches. Short drive to Boothbay. I knew what I was getting. I was just hoping for actual renovations this time.

View was amazing from part of the property, however from our room the trees & bushes needed to be trimmed & thinned out. What could of been an incredible view of the harbor was a view of bushes- disappointing.

I spent a couole nights there with my son. I like the view from the room. I like that had a deck. The room was clean. The property is super nice. But the rooms could use some updates. Its pretty dated. But well kept. It was vreaksfast included which was great..simple but enough. Since we then headed to boothbay harbor dor dinner. Was a couple mikes away. Vlose enough. We took the kayaks on the girst day. Played ping pong (they need to get new rackets). The pool was great. We spent a whole day there. Nice. Quiet. And we got to see a falli g star at night too. Was awesome. We enjoyed our stay.

Loved the setting. Outside property was beautiful. Access to Kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards
The room we had needed upgrading and initially smelled musty. Once we opened door for awhile the must smell subsided.
Front desk staff member could have been more welcoming and when we left on Sunday I said just dropping off key. His response was Ok. Not Ok how was your stay or something to show an interest.
Our room did not look anything like the picture on the website.

We would go back maybe try to get a room with a deck not just a balcony.

The walkway into our room was missing stones between the paver making a huge tripping hazard. The kayaks should be scheduled so others have time. One groups used them all day making it limited for others. Not enough fire pits. The pool was great! The view to the harbor is getting blocked by trees and they could use some trimming and weed removal behind the unit at the bottom of the hill closer to the harbor. Still would go there again!!! Would recommend, the breakfast is also great!

Outdated and in need of remodeling. Our first room was not what we expected. It was outdated with rust spots on the door frame of entrance and frame of drop ceiling in the bathroom. The bathroom faucet had some weird damage that looked like it was melted. The slider leading to the porch was held shut with a stick because the lock was broken. We decided we weren't staying. The woman at front desk gave us a tour of a different room. Since it was getting late, we decided to stay. This room was much better than the first until we tried to sleep. The light from the front door was shining through the door window all night making it difficult to sleep. And had no switch to shut it off. Sleepless, I decided to turn off air conditioner in the middle of the night. I turned on the light to see how to shut ac off when I noticed what looked like black mold in the vent of AC unit. I opened the front panel were I thought I would find a filter, instead I found no filter and the fins covered in grime. There were also crumbling grout in bathroom floor and black mold behind bathroom sink. I was told they had a fishing pond that was stocked. When I drove by, I could see it was small and over grown with no place to fish from. It looked like no one had used it in a long time. The laundry room was out side the building, not indoors. The mini golf section needed updating. The staff was friendly, but the place was lacking proper management and maintenance.

This hidden gem is exactly what we were looking for. While the room was bare-bones, the property was spectacular. The resort is quintessential Maine. Stunning views of the cove and surrounding property, are worth the visit alone. We wished we could have stayed longer. The breakfast buffet was delish, and the amenities (pool, shuffleboard, paddling and dock views were a nice bonus. We made reservations to come back. I great place for a reset.

The only thing, I would say is that they should really invest in some new doors.
The front door had a couple of cracks and could see outside. The back door you had pull really hard to open.

We needed a place for a one night stay close to the Botanical Gardens. This place was only 10 minutes away and the price of $250 was reasonable.

Staff was friendly and we got a king suit overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately our view was blocked by trees but it was sunset anyway and we were leaving in the morning so no big deal.

Place smelled fresh and clean when we walked in and AC was working great, it was nice and cool. WIFI was also working. There was a TV and fridge and it looked like it had been recently renovated. Bathroom looked all new.

Only complaints is the bathroom could of been cleaner. There was a sharp unidentifiable piece of plastic or something on the floor that I stepped on with bare feet and also the plasic thing that covers a razor blade still in the floor. Dead bugs and dirt along the edge of the floor. Stuff that should have easily been picked up by a vacuum or broom. Also someones used hand towel was still hanging on the rack behind the shower curtain in the bathroom when i stepped into the shower. Also there was no soap for the shower provided (shampoo and conditioner were though)

Other than that the room was clean, quiet, and the property was beautiful. We sat on chairs watching the sun set and there was lots to do there if you stayed longer.

Breakfast was also good and included, which was nice. And they are pet friendly so you can bring your dog.

We would stay here again if we were in the area again.

I can not rate this hotel in any way other than their customer service. I am also not impressed with Hotels.com. I was searching for accommodations in Southport Connecticut. Somehow the Ocean Gate Resort popped up as an option. I booked a room for 2 nights. It was less than an 1 1/2 hours latter that I noticed on my conformation e-mail that the hotel is located in the state of Maine. I contacted Hotels.com who reached out to Ocean Gate. Two days later I recieved an e-mail from Hotels.com that the hotel was sticking to their no cancellation policy. I understand policy, but how did a Maine hotel appear in a search of a Connecticut hotel. So, shame on Hotels.com for an appearent glitch in their booking system, and I don't even know what to say about Ocean Gate other than, Policy or Greed?

We were happy with our stay and would stay again. We stayed over the July 4 long weekend. It wasn’t too busy, but not too quiet either. Our kids (3&7) enjoyed exploring the grounds, swimming in the pool which was about 78 degrees, played mini putt and other random games. The breakfast buffet was nice and we had the option of sitting in an outdoor dining hall or sitting inside with a view over the water. Next time we will go kayaking as there were many kayaks.

The grounds are extremely charming with most rooms having a waterfront view. The buildings are rustic and from the outside could use some updating. Our room was renovated with a fresh coat of paint, new carpet and new bathroom fixtures. Our beds were comfortable and our pillows fluffy.

The experience is more cabin in the woods than 5 star hotel.

We were quite disappointed with our stay. The room smelled musty and was very dark. It was advertised as having an « ocean view » but outside our window was uncut grass and weeds, and full trees, as well as a lost bathing suit that must have fallen from the balcony above. We could see a peek of the water. In addition there was no garbage can and the toilet flush was loose. The breakfast was okay with some warm items. Our highlight was the use of the kayak as well as the ping pong table. I think this is mis labeled a « resort » and instead should be called a family camp. It was quote run down and did not resemble the advertised photos at all.

Ocean Gate Resort was an okay place to stay, but it didn’t live up to the “resort” label or the price. While we had a nice view of the harbor and appreciated the porch off our room, it doubled as a walkway for other guests, which made it feel far from private. The room itself was a decent size with plenty of storage space, and it included a mini fridge—though it lacked a freezer.

The resort offered kayaks and canoes, which was a nice touch, but only for use in a very small section of the harbor. One major downside was that our air conditioning was broken, and with the sun beating in through the large window and door, the room became uncomfortably hot in the evening.
Overall, this felt more like a motel than a true resort

RUN! Dont waster your money

This was an absolute disaster! We had to be moved from original room because of mold infested ac and ended up staying 2 days in a room that had NO hot water. The entirw property wi-fi was down and there was no coffee or machine available in the rooms!

Yvonne who works the front desk was professional and did what she could but the issues definitely the fault of the owners! I will NEVER stay there again! The website does not offer the reality of this property and ALL its dysfunction.

I swear the bed was 20 years old and super uncomfortable.

This place was peaceful. A little rustic but definitely not roughing it—standard hotel room with a sort of a Maine camp feel. The bay views were nice. I like the amenities (breakfast was decent, nice pool, little minigolf set-up) and there’s some decently cool stuff in Boothbay within roaming distance if you want to leave the property. Would def do this again.

The view of the bay was lovely but the property has been neglected for quite some time. Very shabby and dingy. No amenities - not even a beverage machine on the property. Breakfast was plain and minimal. Staff uninterested and had to be told by customers that containers were empty. This stay was definitely not worth the rate paid. Pictures on website are not what you get.

A quiet location set on a cove on Southport island, our room was quiet and comfortable staff was attentive and ready to met our needs. My only issue was the chairs in our room and balcony had zero padding, very uncomfortable, otherwise a fantastic option.

This is my second stay at Ocean gate. Last year when I checked out they said they were doing a lot of remodeling over the winter. I didn’t see anything better honestly. The location is amazing. I can only imagine the place would be amazing with alot of work. The breakfast is the best part. Eggs bacon sausage and pancakes. Not to mention bagels toast cereal and fruit. Can’t beat that. The use of kayaks and canoes is great! The location itself is why I came back. The rooms need alot of help. Ceiling and walls were cracked. Fixtures rusted. I stayed three nights and only one night had available firewood for the fire pits. Easy drive to Boothbay. Would I stay again? Maybe if they really did remodel like their signs display all over the “resort.”

Amazing Hotel

One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. The staff was extremely helpful and easy to get in contact with, they went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. I went with my husband and 5 kids. We went kayaking, played mini golf, ping pong ball and some other games — all included at no extra fee. Breakfast was the usual hotel breakfast, lots of space to eat. Beautiful scenery right on the waterfront. Lots of beautiful flowers too. Our room was nice, clean and had an outside seating area overlooking the ocean. I only wish the beds were more comfortable and the shower easier to figure out how to use… but those are minor details.

Nothing like what the photos show. Never had towels at the pool, rust on baseboard heating as well as towel rack in room. Hole in bathroom door, missing lightbulb in bathroom, empty shampoo/soap bottles in shower. Unable to lock our sliding door/screen. When I changed my view from “resort” to “summer camp”, things seemed better…

This property NOT WHAT IS ADVERTISED!!

Room smelled of mold, the front door had been kicked in, bugs, holes in the wall, back door did not shut correctly, air conditioner did not work, another “guest” of this “resort” harassed us on check in, refrigerator was on the floor and open upon arrival, tv did not work, bugs bugs bugs. The only similarity from the picture to the actual room is that there were two beds (with spiders) No other hotels available in the area, slept in my car. AND to top it off they charged my card full price after I had paid a deposit.

I felt mislead by the photos from Expedia and the property. I vacated the resort one day early and at a loss because the property and Expedia did not feel the need to refund me. The first night stay I couldn't sleep because of the smell (terribly musty). The bathroom smelled like the septic was backing up. The screen doors flew open as the hinges were not affixed, (I guess) and the screen door on the balony had a ripped screen. The ice machine was not working and while it was repaired before we left, I took notice to the fact that it was filthy with bird droppings a I mean a lot! The bathroom is tidy with not one place to set your belongings maybe I'm being picky but for the price I paid I had a much higher expectation. I will say the view from the balcony was beautiful and the staff were very friendly. However calling and emailing is of no use, no one will answer, ask Expedia they told me as well no one answered them for several days.

Dated property

We stayed at water facing property.
They had kayaks and some other fun things for children to play with, which is good thing.
Rooms were dated and bathroom was not really clean. They had mold in shower, sink did not drain water properly.

We asked to change bedsheets, but they said it's done only if we stay for over 4 days.
I understand going green and saving water, but if we need sheets changed, we need sheets changed.

If the prices were maybe half of what they offer rooms for, the resort would be ok. But for over 250 a night on weekdays, its not worth it.

This property has a 5 star view and location, but a bit run down and needs some maintenence, 2 stars on facility and amenities. Good for a short stay, not a long stay. \"Resort\" is not the correct name for this location, it's more of a lodge or cabin-like vibes.

I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews, but we had a great stay. Our kids enjoyed thenearm outdoor pool, mini golf, basketball courts, and the canoes and kayaks that were included. The breakfast buffet was great with eggs, sausage, bacon, pastries, cereals, and blueberry pancakes each morning.

Great place to stay on a trip they provided the activities at no additional cost great place to have on a trip because you typically can’t bring the stuff you need by plane!
