Alba Hotel is a luxurious four-star boutique hotel located in the quiet up-market Milimani suburb, in Meru (215 kilometres from the capital Nairobi). Targeting the travelling business executive in mind, the hotel offers complimentary high-speed wireless internet in the rooms and throughout the premises.
For entertainment and relaxation there is international satellite and DSTV in all the rooms. All the rooms have private balconies looking over the court yard, pool or the distant lavish green Nyambene Hills Whereas Meru generally has good security, the hotel has enhanced cctv surveillance and all rooms are fitted with electronic door locking system for added security and comfort.

When I checked myself in using the door codes emailed to me (the front desk is only attended during the day), I was quickly disappointed with my room: the door wouldn't lock, the toilet wouldn't stop running, and I found some kind of stain on the mattress under the tucked sheet. I texted the 24 hour emergency number, not sure who would respond at such a late hour (it was 11pm at this point). Shortly after I sent the text, I heard back from someone named Amelia who ended up making my whole trip extraordinary.
Amelia was one of the managers of the hotel and lived nearby. Despite the time of night, and the fact inches of snow were coming, she left her home to come switch me to another room. When she arrived, she was extremely apologetic, and assured me she would make sure the room would be more thoroughly inspected and cleaned for future guests. Then she moved me to the room next door, in which she had already turned the heater on, and I was delighted to find the room to be spotless and remarkably comfortable (and a corner room, no less, with two lovely windows that got abundant natural light). She also gave me some complimentary beverages.
The room ended up being a lovely home during my few days in Stratford, and I would have a lovely chat with Amelia when I'd see her in the lobby. The hotel had a lovely old charm about it, with a lot of historical flair. I definitely hope to stay here again. Huge thanks to Amelia for being such a hero of the hotel!

The hotel was wonderful and I would definitely stay there again. However, the dining room was getting remodelled which I was unaware of when booking, so the breakfast was unavailable. Additionally, the hotel wasn't super prepared for the amount of snow we had so the parking area wasn't properly plowed and there was no place for our boots in the room.
Still, the room was spacious and comfortable, the beds were very soft and the staff were charming and accommodating.
The hotel was also in walking distance of everything we planned to see in town, which was very convenient.

Parking was not included and was across the street and expensive. The heater in the room is old and it was either boiling hot or freezing. The TV didn't work.

Blatant lies. Hotels.com misrepresented this dive totally. No parking included. No restaurant. Not even a lousey elevator. Tried to do the stairs with my cane and ended up leaving 30 min after checking in. Don't waste your money!

It is a very old hotel with extremely creaky floors. We could hear everyone walking and talking on the stairs, above us, beside us and in the hall. We asked for late checkout, placed the do not disturb sign on the door, and yet, housekeeping knocked at two different times. The second time they knocked, they immediately tried to enter our room. When my husband spoke to them the second time, they were rude and told us that we had to be out by noon, when the front desk clerk had told us 12:30. We will never stay here again.

The suite was beautiful. No breakfast as no restaurant available. There are a few things that could be improved such as a bigger tv on the wall. As well, there was no ice maker available and the shower should have had a light inside. All in all, for an old building it was done up beautifully. What a nice hotel. They are a bit under construction and the elevator was out if service. This didn't impact me at all but could be a surprise fir someone with a lot of luggage or with mobility issues. Fantastic location. The room was clean and comfortable. I'm glad I stayed in the mini-suite. Highly recommend!

The following was missing from the Expedia description- under construction, no elevator, no food service. Expedia read the clients reviews and explain how you and the industry let’s vendors not update clearly their advertising on their product. Is it mandatory now for them to have an accurate pitch. Get your act together and shame on the owners and managers of the Windsor Hotel Stratford for choosing to mislead the public.

The historic property is in the process of being renovated, but unfortunately, we and our friends got the last 2 rooms which had not been updated. The bathroom was cramped, the bathtub faucets were \"wonky\", and the toilet was difficult to flush. The bed sheets in our friend's room were stained (ours were not); the sheets in both rooms were thin. The best aspects for us were the mattresses (very comfortable), and the friendly and helpful staff. Because we were in the last two rooms available (which had not yet been upgraded), we could have been given a lower room rate than the $250.00 that we paid for each room. Advise future visitors to ensure that they will get a renovated room.

I cannot begin to say how disappointed we were with this property. Pictures online are very deceptive. The elevator does not work. The room itself is indescribably ugly. Tiny bathroom but thank goodness the bed was comfortable. People walking on bare floors in the hall and upstairs was a steady annoyance. There is no breakfast. No dining room and even the mini bar was empty but for 2 cans of coke.

Upon residing for the evening, we discovered the bed linens were dirty with hairs, dirt particles and a fly. My husband waited a half hr for staff to return to front desk in which we were given sheets to change ourselves and dirty pillows without covers.
In the morning, I was startled to see the bath water coming out brown. The cleaning lady was next to our room, and she kept slamming the door repeatedly every couple seconds. I don’t not understand why she was doing this so often but it was extremely loud and rattled the windows in our room.
We will never return to this hotel.

More negatives than positives.
On the plus side, the Windsor Hotel in Stratford is centrally located and is close to the Avon Theatre and numerous restaurants. On the negative side, there is no restaurant, the rooms are not great, our bathroom and shower was from the 1950's, the front desk staff disappeared from the front desk for long periods (more than the stated 30 minutes) and were not available when needed. The hotel also requires full payment one week before your arrival date, not a regular practise for most hotels. I will NOT be staying at the hotel again!

Room was nice but not worth the price. You pay for the great location though. Staff weren't unwelcoming, but they were not particularly warm. The welcome email sent a few weeks before arrival indicated that they do special surprises for celebrations. I mentioned my celebration but nothing was done. The rooms themselves have charm but the building itself is pretty plain in the hallways and stairwells. The TV in the room is equipped with Roku, but you need your own logins for streaming channels.

This hotel is a fantastic for Avon theatre and shopping restaurants. Free parking at Copper Lot a 5 min walk but free which is unheard of these days! Only negative was the ice machine was broken which was not the end of the world but pretty standard at a hotel and would have been nice for the stay. The mattress had a bit of a “hill” from wear. So not super comfortable but I slept. Overall I would go back again hoping Reno’s will be completed next year and also to have those suggestions in order. It is a nice overall hotel especially for location.

Buy the parking pass that the hotel offers. It is worth the price, and you can come and go as you like. The hotel is located in the center of town, and you can walk to all of the best restaurants and the Stratford Festival theatres from there. The hotel also has an excellent elevator (a big plus in an older building). The downsides are the shower can go from a comfortable temperature to scalding in 3 seconds (act fast - this happened more than once to me), the rooms were in need of modernization, and the laminate floors needed a good cleaning.

This hotel is in an excellent location. It is within walking distance of great dining and shopping as well as the theatres. It is clean and the decor is nice. The parking was very difficult to get into and out of. The wi-fi was sketchy at best, and non-existent the rest of the time. The bathroom had a sink with 2 separate taps that meant you had to fill the sink to wash your hands as the hot water was too hot to use without mixing with cold. There was absolutely no counterspace in the bathroom and it was very small. If you are a larger person, the toilet would be difficult to access.

The hotel offered that we could park at a place over a quarter mile away. The alternate parking proved to be an issue as the hotel does not have an area for unloading luggage from automobiles near the entrance and the long walk back from the alternate parking proved “unpleasant” on a hot and humid day.

Had a terrific time staying here on my first trip to Stratford. The knowledgably, kind, and approachable staff were always open to help and chat about their lovely town. Really love the classic features of the building as well. Close to all the theaters by foot.

The location was perfect. The hotel was nice, but to get to our room we had to take an elevator part way to our room and then a door and stairs to get to the room. That meant leaving our luggage dolly at the top of the stairs and carrying our luggage down the stairs and into our room. Also, our door was nearly impossible to open and close during the whole stay. We will stay there again but hopefully ask for a better room.

Parking was an issue. Room was clean and looks to be newly renovated. But it was on the smaller side for a suite. The downtown location was nice but haveing No Parking was a real inconvenience. The location lacked amenities...no pool,no restaurant...the stay was automated...all done via email so we had no interaction with staff. The emails were timely and clear but the lack of staff interaction made it feel cold and unwelcomeing. In the end is was a small clean room in an older downtown building but marketed like a boutique hotel. It lacked the polish, service and warmth of a true boutique hotel experience. A small clean room should be the minimum expectation for any place...it is all the other details that make the stay special and unfortunately this place missed the mark.

Excellent location—theatres, restaurants and shops walkable distance. Staff are very friendly and thorough. Building has been renovated without losing its historic charm. I have stayed here before while it was still under its original name. It really needed some care & attention then and I’m thankful for the revitalization of this gem. I can’t wait to return and see the next wave of renovations completed.
