I stayed at this hotel prior and after a Safari tour. The location is great, near many cafes and Nairobi craft market. Very centric. It has security staff at the entrance and all doors and access to the rooms and corridors have secured doors. The rooms are not soundproof though and you can hear voices of people talking and the very loud music from the restaurant nearby, on Thursday the music lasted until midnight and on Friday it went on until 3am. Asked front desk for a room change in the evening of Friday once the music started again and he refused to do so claiming that it was because I have already used the room during the day. There were also small roaches in the room (bathroom and over the table).

Booked though Wotif, the hotel staff have never heard of Wotif.
We were due to start a safari the next day and the reception staff advised we should be at a different (sister) hotel so would not check us in, despite having correct paperwork. After some discussion they contacted their other hotel and proceeded to advise that other members of our group had already checked into the other hotel. Following several minutes arguing, our friends arrived. Timing could not have been better! Caught in a lie the reception staff decided a policy of ignoring us would be far easier, preferring to try serving other people. Only by sheer weight of numbers to physically block the desk could we get served. Took 45 minutes to get sorted and get our keys. TIA, people, This Is Africa!
Rooms were no better than average, but breakfast food and staff were good and friendly. About the only good point. Don't book here unless you're desperate.

Hotel overbooked , changed to bad hotel

No room available when we arrived, we were redirected to another hotel far from city centre and very noisy. I spent 2h to find this hotel to be close from center. Totally disappointed !!

I have occasionally stayed at this hotel for about 10 years and keep coming back when in transit as it is affordable, centrally located and convenient. The staff are always efficient, helpful, friendly and courteous. The hotel is secure, and although most of the rooms are budget, they are clean, functional and comfortable, all en-suite (the bathrooms can be small). While the hotel is no 5-star establishment, it rates as an institution in Nairobi for the number of years its been around, and for the fact it's very well run. So if you want to keep your bills down, Kenya Comfort is a great low key place to stay.

Best part of this hotel is the helpful staff

Hotel is convenient to shuttles to Tanzania. Staff is very helpful, security walked with our bags to shuttle. We were off on our time by one hour that made us late for checkout and breakfast, but staff very accommodating. The security is extensive. There are locked doors and security throughout. For the price and location, it is adequate. The best part of hotel is the helpful staff.

Helpful staff, great internet, yummy breakfast

Our family (kids 5 and 11) had an enjoyable 5 day stay at the Kenya Comfort Hotel. Our first room faced on the street and we changed it to another room on the opposite side and it was much quieter. The hot shower was wonderful, the internet was available and fast on every floor, the breakfast was substantial, and above all, the staff, even the front door guards, went out of the way to ensure that we, including our kids, had a wonderful stay. Thank you Kenya Comfort.

City center hotel

Very bad experience as the hotel did not have basic amenities working. We will never go back there and also make sure that our friends also do not go there. Their toilet flush did not work in our room properly.
We are surprised that expedia has it on their list. Furthermore, for the price that we paid it is more than terrible as for the same price we have a beautiful hotel in Istanbul!

Okay in a pinch but not great

Staff were friendly and helpful. Wifi worked decently. My first room, 505, was dim and with a bathroom so small I couldn't fit in and close the door. I was generously allowed to move, into 502, and that was much better. The hotel has no reception area to speak of and has the slowest elevator I've experienced in years. But like I say, staff was helpful, if not always effective.

Reliable, secure budget hotel

The hotel is secure, clean and has good basic facilities. Inexpensive, it is still conveniently near to the centre of Nairobi. The surroundings are noisy due to the location, but the hotel itself was quiet. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Hotel personnel are excellent and courteous. Only problem this stay was the broken elevator! I am not good at climbing stairs, so they did give me an upgrade on the second floor and of course carried everything up and down for me.

If you want to sleep don't stay here!!!

The bed was clean and comfortable, but the hotel is old and unkept. The bathroom, shower and toilet all very old and grubby. This would be fine if it were a budget hotel, but certainly not worth £50.00 a night, way over priced,I feel, but having travelling around Africa this seems to be the norm.
Incredibly noisy location, lots of screaming and shouting outside, both nights a car parked outside in the street and played booming loud music most of the night, it vibrated inside the room. The police were not called.

This hotel was very well located with good and friendly security onsite. Bar and restaurant were a reasonable price but you had to watch your bill closely to make sure you were not overcharged. Rooms were functional and better than we expected. In essence it is a cheap and cheerful hotel in a central location.

Not too bad and cheap for the centre of Nairobi.

This is one of the few hotels in the Central Business District that doesn't cost the earth. Good location, but make sure you get a room at the back. There's noisy music most of the night if your room faces the street. The standard room ($50 without breakfast) is a bit small and has no TV, but is en suite. Good security, but don't leave a mobile, laptop, etc. in your room here or anywhere in Kenya.

Inexpensive,safe hotel in the heart of Nairobi

The best thing about the place is its location and the local colour, which you will never see staying at the Hilton or Fairmount.
While booking make sure you get a room on the top floor, facing away from the street. As these rooms face south they can get rather hot, so ask for a large room. However, beware that the room descriptions on the websites are not very clear! Be prepared that not all the fascilities will work, yet if you report this, the staff will go out of their way to accommodate you!
There is a restaurant on the premises that will feed you, and if you find enough courage to climb through a window (there is no door) onto the balcony, you will be rewarded with a view of the street below which undoubtedly will enhance your meal.

Kenya Comfort - adequate but not great

Kenya Comfort is centrally located. Good area to walk around during the day (though my wife had necklace snatched from her throat in broad daylight). Walking distance to Kenya Museum. A good quality cafe just around the corner (3r floor) and Masai Market (a bit of rip off) a block away. Staff obliging, restaurant and bar adequate. Security excellent. Taxis etc able to pick up and drop off at the door. About an hour to the airport in traffic. As we few out at midnight we were able to leave our bags then come back, shower and change for free. A great bonus! Found the prices to be high by Australian standards, charged nearly $aus200 per night for a 2-3star hotel.

Pleasant hotel, but a bit noisy with construction work going on next door and inside the hotel (entrance). This is of course temporary. with Nakumatt, bank and ATM and all sorts of restaurants and fast food places nearby a very convenient place. Everything in the centre within walking distance.

This hotel is good value for money. Not the most luxurious, but relatively inexpensive. However, if you're used to European hotels, go for the \"superior\" rooms. Security is good, and it is relatively peaceful by Nairobi standards. Staff easy to deal with and some quite friendly. I've stayed a few days several years running, and the quality seems reliable. Note, probably not very child-friendly. Ideal for businessmen on a tight budget, or a couple on a few days' stop-over.

The staff at this hotel was very friendly and helpful. The room was nothing special, but it was clean and I felt safe, as there were plenty of security people around. The room has a cabinet that you can use your own lock to lock your things in. It can be loud at night, especially on the weekends in this neighborhood, but I'm a good sleeper so it didn't bother me too much. The breakfast in the morning was decent. Just be aware that this hotel has 2 locations. I arranged for several pickups from this hotel and every time the person assumed I meant the other location, so you need to give people the street location. Also, make sure you print out your email confirmation of the hotel booking to bring with you. When I showed up there was some confusion-I think they didn't have record of my reservation. However, I showed them my confirmation, and I got a room anyway so it was fine. I also paid for the room w/ breakfast but they didn't have record of that either, so again I had to show them my email confirmation. The hotel has wifi, but it only worked for me on 1 of the 4 nights I spent at the hotel, so it is not reliable at all. Do not count on it to work. Overall though, I was satisfied with this hotel for the price due to the convenient central location, friendly staff, and security.

We were made very welcome when we arrived. The security at the hotel is very good and they are interested in your comfort. The restaraunt has a very good breakfast and the dinner we had there was also ok. This is not a luxury hotel but is comfortable and friendly and close to the town centre. The rooms on the street are noisy.

a great option for those on a budget

The hotel is about as close as one can be to the heart of Nairobi without tripling the price of the accommodations, perhaps a slight exaggeration but not too far off. From this Westerner's perspective, Kenya has a hot climate, so an AC would be desirable, but that feature seems to be the biggest thing separating affordable from costly options. The windows in the Kenya Comfort Hotel allowed for good ventilation. Now being in the city, beware open windows mean noise. The immediate neighborhood near the University of Nairobi though more than made up for it in street ambiance. The Hotel posts a statement of principles in employment practices that is very progressive. As one from the Pacific Northwest (Oregon), it had an almost McMenamin's feel.

A little loud at night

I really like this hotel. The price was great for what you get. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Room was very clean. The only downside was that there was loud music playing late into the night. I didn't realize there was a bar/club across the street till I tried to go to bed. The location is good - right in the middle of town. But be prepared with ear plugs if you want to go to bed before the wee morning hours.

Service was great. Great staff and food was OK, and great location. I stayed for 2 night, but I probably wouldn't recommend this hotel because it is quite noise at night (even with ear plugs) and the room was very small. Just didn't feel that comfortable to me.

Just was in this hotel for 2 nights. Staff is rude, cleaners will wake up you at 8 am to ask you to clean the room. The feeling is that you disturb them and you are there as intruder. Check out time is at 10 am and breakfast is extra and cost about 10US$. In the city centers are hotels too probably cheaper. Stick with the city center. Do not walk after dark. It is dangerous outside. Put your money in different pockets, so if they rob you...
They tried to rob me in Africa. The danger applies in any African country to various degree.

Fair value for the money

There are couple of things which didn't work really well but apparently are the rules of the hotel or the system they have.
1) My friend had a bed in a dorm booked and confirmed by them and when we arrived the same guy who confirmed by email his booking said the dorms were just out of order for maintenance and he (he said he was the manager) refused to gave my friend a better accommodation for the same price.
2)You have to left the keys at front desk each time you go out of the hotel even if you don't want so.
3)The Wi-Fi doesn't work in the rooms and for couple of days didn't work on the spot it used to.
Other than that we both enjoyed the stay, the staff is really nice and friendly and the price is fair.

Convenient location - good value

I've stayed at the Kenya Comfort many times: while the hotel rooms can be quite small and a little cramped, and eating out is probably the smarter move, everything else about the hotel is totally fine. It's well maintained, very secure, everything works except the internet, and the hotel staff are simply great. It's in a great location in the city centre for getting things done, with taxis out the door, a 24hr supermarket just round the corner, and Java coffee house a little over a diagonal block away. And the room prices are, for Nairobi, really quite reasonable. Lastly the hotel has a luggage storage facility which is free while you're staying there, and a dollar a day a piece if you want to leave a bag while you head off. So all in all, not much not to like, and a lot to like.

Perfect nights sleep after a flight

I stayed at the Kenya Comfort for only one night as I was arriving late and so heading to Naivasha in the morning. The bed was excellent and the sheets were incredibly soft... I actually found it difficult to get up in time to shower (which was lovely and hot), have breakfast (fast and tasty) and check out by 10am... Perfect for what I needed...

A Kenyan Hotel !

This Kenyan Hotel is nor more and no less than it claims

My single \"standard\" room was clean and comfortable but VERY small. Width one and half single bed, Ensuite door only opened half way because there was basin on opposite wall !
Staff helpful and polite - and keen to improve guests Swahili
Beer good, coffee terrible. Food not bad.
Location good. for access to central areas (take care as always in Nairobi)
Not bad for short stays at reasonable cost, Probably bit challenging for long stays eg week or so depending on your expectations really.

I only stayed one night before travelling home and this was after 10 days in a medical camp in remote Kisii region. Small tents, rain, very basic toilets, some desperate poverty - so perhaps my expectations were not those of a standard tourist.

Excellent place for the price!!

The ladies at the front desk were top notch, always answering my questions. And I had a lot of them. The rest of the staff was very friendly. Great security. One of the security guards provided me with an escort to the Saturday market to make sure I didn't get lost. Nice hot shower and the food in the restaurant was good. I didn't like that the wifi didn't reach my room so I had to go to the computer area and sit to use. Location was good, next to restaurants and shops down town. For night life your going to need to take a cab.

Hotel and Hotel staff were ok. Restaurant and Lounge staff needs much work and training. I made suggestions to management. I will return to evaluate again. Kitchen is officiate. Food could use a little more seasoning. Prices are ok but portions could be little larger. Most meats over cooked. Dry when should be tender and juicy. Wait staff needs training and needs to pay attention to ALL customers more. All my orders were missing something or were incorrect.

Hotel could use own car service. Taxi really try to cheat people. Make experience more unpleasant.

I will give more complete reveiw in my travel site, for overseas contractors. Over all city (cleanliness, organisation, traffic), hospitality buisnesses, and travel NEEDS MUCH IMPROVEMENT, to say it nicely. Really much beyond that. Nairobi and surrounding areas are NOT A HOLIDAY DESTINATION, AT ALL.

Rooms, service, location, price - all was good, rather better. BUT a BIG problem is, the security is so fortressed it looks like a JAIL indeed!! I was given a key chain consisting of 3 keys!! I stayed just for 1 night. To reach to my room I need to take a lift because I can't take stairs as each floor has a separate locked gate. Lift is terribly slow, so slow that if stairs gates are not locked you can climb up to 2 floors well before lift can take you there!. After coming out from lift, I need to open first floor gate. Then there are 2 keys for my room. Also one thing I must say. One of my male friend, a business associate wanted to see me for 10 minutes but reception did not allowed him to room. And there was no sufficient place in lobby opposite reception. Overall, this hotel is just good enough for budget travellers and for a short stay who wish to visit city centre for business. Oh I forgot to tell, there was not even a fan inside room.

\"Simple but satifying\"

This hotel is old but I would have to say I was very pleased about how clean the room was. The bed sheets were spotless white and the bathroom clean. The rooms came with mosquito nets and a bottle of water which I was very impressed about.I felt that it was a little over priced for the upkeep but there was not much in this price range for them to compete with. We came from Mombasa and stayed at a resort on the beach for the same price but for the same price in Nairobi it did not offer us much at all. However after seeing the cleanliness and the friendly staff I felt that this made up for the price. The breakfast was very nice however quality differed with the different staff. One day it was great-very fresh and great service but the next day was a little average-they didnt mind replacing things when requested but we were very impressed the day before so expected the same service again. The restaurant itself is clean and had a nice balcony.
The photos of the loft are a little misleading as there is only one sunbed and its a little dirty and run down. However there are many plastic chairs if you wish to sit upstairs for some clean air and read a book.
The security is very good-a guard at the door 24hours a day, a locked door to each level and double locks on each room. We felt very safe.

Little gem

For the rate charged a little gem. Friendly staff, good 24 hr restaurant and service. Beds clean with mosquito nets provided. Room very clean and in good condition, quite enough to get a good nights sleep. Central to downtown and next door to 24 hour supermarket and nearby park.

The front desk clerks were nice and the room was clean, but although I had booked (and paid) in advance I did not spend the night at this hotel. If you are traveling with a group and just need a really cheap hotel for a very short period then it's probably OK. I checked in, took my luggage to the room, closed the door, looked at the bars on the windows and the flimsy door, I just didn't feel like it was a safe neighborhood or hotel, so I left and went to the Heron Court. A little more money but I slept soundly.

A good budget hotel for a short stop in Nairobi. Very helpful staff. Value for money.Strong on security. Very central - unfortunately the traffic getting into the centre from the airport was awful.

Good customer service

Although I enjoy the hospitality, I was disappointed when my daughter was denied entry to my room. We end up fitting clothes in the toilet as the hotel officials were not flexible neither do they judge cases on merits. I only went for a graduation ceremony, and I wanted my daughter to choose the dress that suits her best.

My advice to the management is to create a lounge were visitors can be entertained.

Good value for the money

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Kenya Comfort Hotel. That said, it is not a five star hotel and those who come expecting the Ritz will be disappointed. The staff however is generally helpful and friendly and you are likely to get an authentic Kenyan experience as opposed to a bland generic hotel chain experience. The restaurant was interesting and more locals than guests seemed to eat there during our stay. Our room was somewhat noisy, but after all you are in the city center of Nairobi. If you are sensitive to noise, ask for a room that is away from traffic.

Excellent place to stay, close to centre of town, friendly and helpful staff, markets and bars nearby, taxis across the road, as was buses for Tanzania. Couldn't have wanted for more at the price.

I stayed overnight twice within 8 days. The budget rooms are cramped, but clean and fairly quiet. There is good security, and the dining room and bar are pleasant enough, if you don't mind several wide screens chattering loudly at each other across the room. Close to taxis and Riverside Shuttle bus stop for those headed across country. You can leave bags there after checkout, too, if your transport is late in the day.

Good value for money

The hotel has simple but clean rooms with bathrooms. It is located in central Nairobi and just 10 minute walk from the National Museum. Rooms have mosquito nets and some have tv. There is free wi-fi.

The hotel was fair and mainly for the budget traveler. Breakfast could have been better. The fruits were not as fresh as should be,the coffee — poor and the omelettes were flat and dry. The bathroom was functional with the shower as part of the room separated by the curtain. If your goal is a place to rest your head at nite and you will be out most of the day, the reasonable rate and central location makes it acceptable.

Great Experience

The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. There was a nice breakfast included as well. The staff was lovely and very helpful (we were just arriving in Kenya and needed some extra advice). I would recommend without hesitation.
