We had a very scary experience with the staff. Our room had no deadbolt then we had someone knock and try to get it. Then someone from the front desk call up and ask if I was alone and if the door was locked. Mind you I’m a younger female. I tried to talk to the staff about it via email but it’s been 10 days with no response. Super disappointed in their customer service and lack of safety. DO NOT stay here!

Generally the hotel was clean and well located. The rooms are a decent size and the pool is nice.
The absence of a gym was a surprise and means I won’t return. The staff were also quite abrupt, almost rude.
Breakfast is expensive.

The staff were so lovely and kind and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were average but mostly clean and neat. The food was amazing and buying the breakfasts all in was the best decision we made. All in all this is a lovely little hotel which felt very safe and was comfortable, relaxed and friendly.

I am a fan of the Novotel at Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok so I had high hopes. This is among the most expensive hotels in Dakar yet the food service is cafeteria quality ..not up to restaurant standards ..and yet much more expensive than comparable hotels around Dakar. On arriving I was told my room included breakfast so I had the buffet. At checkout this was denied and they insisted I pay a very inflated price for the buffet I would not have taken if not for the statement of their employee. I complained vigorously but amazingly they would not own up to their own mistake. Do not waste you money at this old tired overpriced hotel with terrible service.

There was a high level event in Dakar this week. Hotel was fully booked by very demanding guests, leaving early and coming back after 8pm. Hotel team was up to the situation and even organise fine music in bar at pool area. Kudos to them!
I read complaints on forums, hotel is OK, maybe Dakar is not for you. Great metropolis in making.

I was given the choice to get either a room with carpet or laminated floor, carpet was very old not so clean. That needs to be changed. Laminated floor was pretty new.

Where to start. They dont have their own airport transfer. When I asked to arrange they just gave me a local number. No one to carry out your luggage from your car. Took forever to give the room. By the way prices at which I booked at the agent website was different than the prices at the hotel. So they charged me extra. The room they gave me was like stains on WC. Towels lying on the floor. Used paper tissues all over. They changed my room when I blasted on them. Went to the bar. It took 50 mns for a sandwich. And when I decided to go in my room asked the waiter to provide the sandwich there. It took me 3 hours and so many calls to get that sandwich in my room. By the way delivered stale sandwich. Wont recommend this hotel to anyone.

In general, it was ok.
Likes: bfast buffet was good, drinks and food were good value
Don't Likes: extremely slow service ( like they are trying to avoid you), and can't get any fresh air in the rooms (windows blocked) so air in the room is stale and does not smell to great. Took room with 2 single beds and they were hard as rocks..

Good hotel. Clean, safe and comfortable.

I stayed here for 5 nights with several colleagues attending a conference and we had a good stay. Rooms are clean and well-appointed with comfortable beds and good showers. Bar, breakfast and food were all excellent, if a little pricey. There are lots of good reataurants, a little tourist market and a good supermarket within a 10 minute walk. The hotel has very good, but friendly, security staff. My favourite thing was the outside bar area and the pool. The pool was very clean, nice temperature and the pool attendant was so lovely and really helpful. I would definitely recommend the Novotel.

Their breakfast buffet has several hot items, and enjoyable. The staff all seem to be very helpful. You can walk to several places to eat, stores for water-pop-and snacks, and local market. Be prepared to pay 20.000CFA ($38USD) from the airport (DSS) to hotel. The hotel had one of the best money exchange rates during my stay. I was surprise to find it hard to exchange US Dollars at the bank, but the Novotel rate was on par. If you haggle, the cabs located at the hotel, are not costly, but if you don't speak French, do your best to make sure the driver understands the place you want to go. There are many people in the Kemel market that can, and will speak English very well. If you try, most vendors will accept the US Dollar, or Euro. If you have Euro, the exchange rate is better. On my next visit I will consider the Novotel first.

The hotel was fine but the room service was very poor. I requested an iron on 3 occasions to iron my shirt but they did not deliver to the room as promised. Also the safe in the room did not work. When I asked for an engineer to come and fix, again they noted it but never did anything about it.

Hotel has good reception area, bar, restaurant, terrace. Unfortunately the corridors are dated and the rooms are disappointing. The rooms reflect a cheap hotel, basic beds, austere comforts and a plastic bathroom unit stuck in one corner. Towels had seen better days.

Its such a shame as the food was great, terrace pleasant, staff terrific and in such a good location. Simply there are better hotels in Dakar for the price

The carpeting of the hotel is old and creates a disappointing feel. My room did not have soap and when I called House Keeping and reception to request for soap the phones were never taken.

It appears only Room Service picks up calls.

I have stayed here on numerous occasions. On the plus is the outside courtyard, with bar, lounge and pool facilities. However while the lobby and reception and courtyard areas have been refurbished, more contemporary (although a bit too busy with too many chairs), the rooms are not so great. Clean, but carpets are old and therefore looks dirty. Single sheets on beds instead of two, and very low bedding.

It's a good property the location and service is excellent . Breakfast is decent. The evening lounge and the outdoor pool side sitting is really one loves the ambience is such I don't feel spending the evening and night all in the hotel it self. Rooms are standard as per Novotel world wide . On the whole good experience. Vegetarians will have bit of issue with limited menu in the hotel , but then one is free to order outside food .

well, the stay didn't start well, the reserved room was right next to the AC central system so you can imagine how pleasant the sound should have been, i complained about it and lucky that i got it changed, for the only reason that i was silver member in accord club, if not the room would never had been changed (i got a no answer in my first request only when i showed my membership then they changed it).

Rooms are warn down, but clean. Hallway had the smell of smoke even though smoking was not allowed.
Breakfast at the hotel was minimal early in the morning. Warm breakfast food was not put out until later in the morning, after 7 am. Hotel restaurant for dinner was very good for the price of the entrees.

Overall experience was acceptable. Room comfort was fine but the rug in the room had stain on it. The shower was a bit small. Staff was super helpful and nice--they allowed me to collect my belongings slightly past check-out time. My best experience was with the food. I'll definitely go back there again or recommend it to people.

Nice hotel but watch for related scam

I stayed here for a conference. I had an extra day and asked the hotel reception if they could recommend a tour guide for the day to visit Gorgee Island. They recommended Abdou and phone him for me. I asked him for a price and was told 26,000 XOE. On the day he took me to the island and as part of that asked if I might be interested in a city tour done by one of his friends. I said I might but I had afternoon meetings. After our tour of the island he then took me to a few sights around town that I snapped photographs at. We ended up arriving in a shop I did not ask to go in where I was personally escorted around by 'the owner' apparently. I did want to pick up a few items so I looked around. The owner refused to tell me how much anything cost, and said he could only calculate at the end. At the end I was taken in a separate cramped room and given outrageous price. It was the typical hard sales pressures being used; for instance, given I had taken up the owners time by being toured around (which of course I did not ask for), should I at least buy X for a high price. It was not comfortable and at some stage I walked out, of course for the owner to then quote me a price 1/5 of what he originally. Abdou also then changed the price for the island tour to 34,000 and said my photo snap/market tour also cost 14000 . We had not agreed on that price and I did not even know that I had done the city tour. I certainly did not asked to go to this shop.

Perfect quiet retreat

I was in Dakar to research a novel and the Novotel was absolutely perfect--quiet enough for me to work in my room for hours on end, great food delivered to my room by courteous staff, helpful connections to local tour guides. I couldn't have asked for more. Worth every dime!

Good Hotel in a descent budjet

The hotel is located in the central area of the city, near to most of the government institutions and close to the port. Ibis and Novotel share the same compound and is right next to the Central bank of West Africa. though located in central Dakar, the hotel is quite and peaceful.
Rooms are good, but the comfort level is almost negative. the washroom and bathroom are separate, where the washroom resembles a tiny stink hole!! (though it was not stinky) you could hardly move in there. The bathroom is descent and spacious lacks proper ventilation!! Did book a 1doubleroom with single bed, but was put in a double room with 2single beds!! pretty uncomfortable to sleep with to top, the pillows are square!! when asked the reception to change were adamant to shift and insisted the hotel was full.. so becareful u might not get what you actually booked for. i was for a short business trip so didnt bother much. The sea facing rooms means a tiny window in the room from which the sea is visible.
The place has a nice restaurant, which can accommodate vegetarians upon request. The breakfast spread is good, and has a variety of options, though everyday the same spread is served no changes in the menu

Ocean view and quiet location in city center

This is my second time at Novotel in Dakar. The first was in 2010. Wonderful place, just overlooking the ocean. For me, it was super convenient to many locations where I had meetings. It is about a 20 minute ride to Allmadies (the beach area) where I had other meetings, and also some additional nice restaurants on the beach.

Very comfortable. Rooms are nice. Beds are comfortable. Modern Scandinavian feel in decor. Rooms and hotel are quiet...kind of barricaded from the hustle and bustle of the city center. Airport pick-up and drop-off were free (and super convenient as Dakar Airport is one of the most chaotic experiences in airports in Africa. You do NOT want to deal with the taxis at the airport).

Food was pretty good, but there are some good restaurants close by, including La Fourchette which is the next block over. I also was able to walk to the ferry terminal for the ferry to Goree Islands. Dinners were very good. The lunch buffet is excellent, but perhaps a bit pricey.

I did have an issue with one person at the front desk. But luckily, the manager, who knows about hotel customer service stepped in and saved the day.

The downstairs lobby and pool area are vibrant and nice. (compared to the lobby at the Pullman, formerly, the Meridian, which I think is dark and depressing).

Would definitely recommend.

Very good experience

Stayed in Novotel on two different occasions this winter. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Location was very good. Walkable distance to banks, grocery store, and restaurants. Safe to walk around even after dark. Taxis available right at the hotel 24/7. One thing which was a drawback for us, a family with children, was that there was a floor to ceiling window in the bathroom door.

The surrounding area is okay but the actual hotel is quite nice. I would definately stay here again. The wireless works very good here and i really liked that there was an ATM located within...made everything a lot easier.

I stayed at the hotel for one night, in transit to another African country. When you travel a lot, it is very rare for a hotel to be memorable and this one wasn't either.
Put it this way, it did the job admirably and the price I got from Expedia was reasonable by African standards.

The Novotel is obviously the local business hotel. No frills, no concierge, no tour desk, no amenities for long stay travelers. If restricted to the hotel for any reason...you will be bored. No gift shops or snacks. Come prepared with your own treats, particulary if you have children. Yes there is a pool, small and adjacent to a concrete landscape. No landscape to speak of. problems accessing local taxis.
The room is small. Wash stations are located away from the toilet (an American pet pieve)
Compared to the Radison, staff concern for comfort and safety was lacking.

Disappointing. Perfectly decent rooms, but at about 3 times the price of 3 star hotels in the capital which are themselves pretty decent.

Unhelpful staff - some actively so - one in particular told me that I couldn't get a shuttle bus \"that day\" for the airport (when I checked later there were several) and needed to get a taxi to the airport for 6,000CFA (the fare, as I later discovered, is only 3,000 CFA). My airline lost my luggage and the hotel staff only unwillingly helped make the relevant calls to get it back.

Most comfortable beds in Dakar!

Sparkling pool. Wonderful fresh fish at the restaurant. I took my husband for an overnight to celebrate his birthday and was not disappointed. A special treat for us living in Senegal: CNN and BBCAmerica! Good reception too! Two thumbs up and without breaking the bank!

Novotel Dakar a Welcome Oasis

We had a late check-in so we were a little nervous about whether everything would be in order. We were greeted professionally and shown to our rooms. The rooms were well appointed, excellent air conditioning, and good wi-fi connection. The next morning I was able to see the beautiful pool, and our very central location in the center of Dakar, next to the Central Bank of Senegal. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with the ability to order made to order eggs, and generally the restaurant and bars were well stocked and the service staff was very attentive. The hotel also assisted us in identifying a tour guide who accompanied us on trips to Saint Louis and other sites in an around Dakar. The hotel was excellent and I would stay there again with pleasure.

La climatisation fonctionne mal, on nous facture deux fois la même chose, musique très forte le soir qui nous empêche de dormir et… on laisse entrer le soir des personnes qui ne devraient pas être là et que les enfants ne devraient pas voir. Ce n’est plus le Novotel que l’on connaissait. En fait, ce n’est plus un Novotel.
