Staff were all friendly and helpful. The restaurant on the roof is amazing and have a nice selection of Gin in the bar :) the rooms are basic but large.

Staff shouted at me in front of many guests and diners as they had no experience with expedia pre paid bookings. I was humilliated - Mr Sidaty was genuinely shouting at me that he was going to frogmarch me to ATM while threatening to block me from leaving the hotel in the morning ('you'll see, you'll be late to the airport'). He later conceded but had refused to attempt to read my receipt or to contact the person in charge of pre laid bookings as it was a Sunday and they don't work Sundays...
Upon requesting a glass of wine after this crappy experience, and with no other guests eating at this time, Sidaty disappeared into the office and for 15 minutes proceeded to chat with the guard, insisting all the time he was coming. I had to request 4 times to get served.
Final straw was that I twice notified of my early departure and was twice told by Mr. Sidaty that a breakfast pack would be ready to go for me in the morning, which unsurprisingly it wasn't.

Detained and threatened by the owner and staff
We prepaid via the app but when checking out, a staff member insisted we had not paid, despite my email and credit card evidence to the contrary. He refused to check their email for confirmation of payment. Things escalated when the owner turned up and turned violent, trying to wrestle us out of the car, yelling and then his mates turned up on masse and stopped our car from leaving. It was very frightening. They refused to listen to us or check their email. When the office lady turned up, the owner agreed to check his email, to discover we were right all along and tried to apologise and we were released. The hotel itself was lovely but this experience was so frightening, I cannot give them any more than the minimum one star. The incident should have happened and could easily been resolved.

Hotel was basic. Not much food for free breakfast. Our toilet did not work had to go entire day and overnight with no toilet. Had to go down to lobby each time. Fixed it the next day. Hotel is two blocks from tram.

Low cost guest house
The key feature was the low cost and the location which I wanted. Some staff messed-up the records of bills because they deal in cash. The guest house / hotel owner was very positive and helpful. The rooms are neat. The pool is smaller than it looks in the website. Complimentary breakfast has a simple menu but is good. Food (for meals) is not up to the mark. You may plan to have your meals outside. The guest house is located in a quiet neighborhood and is good for family visits at low cost.

This hotel is close to our office, so I'm writing this from a business user perspective. We work in international development, so we don't have large budgets for 5* hotels - we just need somewhere clean, comfortable, with decent internet and, if possible, also serves food.

The staff also really went the extra mile - I didn't have change to buy something from the convenience store opposite (just a large denomination note) - the staff asked me what I wanted, then went out for an hour, got change from someone, bought it for me, and brought everything up to my room. They also got a better price that I'd been offered.
Only consideration: I don't speak great French, but enough to get buy. You'll need to be at least at this level - don't expect them to speak great English. But since Senegal is a French speaking country, this really shouldn't be a surprise.

Great place for us during our Senegal family trip!
We had 3 initial evenings at the Casa Mara upon arriving in Dakar, and 1 evening prior to our departure from Dakar. Our younger daughter is semester abroad in Dakar and this location was fantastic as it is walking distance to her host family house. The staff at Casa Mara are really friendly, very helpful and made us feel welcomed. The rooms were clean and have an attractive, simplicity of decor. The breakfasts were delicious and the one evening meal we had there was fantastic. The hotel is in a walled compound with a gate and doorbell system, which made us feel as though we were in a private oasis, whether inside or out in a chaise lounge by the pool. Really, a very comfortable setting and we would be happy to return. It was a great experience to have such a pleasant space and to realize that our western expectations of lodging can be softened and yet graciously met in a city such as Dakar.

L'équipe d'accueil est très sympathique. Le restaurant est délicieux et l'ambiance parfaite. Certaines chambres très jolies, d'autres humides, mal situées près des bureaux et de la réception. La piscine était en travaux lors de notre passage donc pas utilisable. Bon rapport qualité prix si vous avez l'une des jolies chambres.

Le cadre est très agréable, le bar restaurant propose des produits de qualité. J'aurai toutefois préférer une chambre côté court pour éviter les réveils à 4h dû au coque d'à côté. Problème également de pression d'eau dans la chambre 15. Le matelas n'était pas très confortable également.

Petit auberge sympathique avec personnel accueillant et serviable. Localisation un peu difficile à trouver à priori. Facile d'accès au centre-ville et aéroport par taxi. Je recommande cet hotel pour le rapport qualité/prix adéquat et asuii pour les bons plats à prix très raisonnable qu'on peut obtenir sur place.

It was my first business trip to Dakar. I had problems in communicating with people working in Casa Mara because most of them understand French only. If you encounter problems, ask lady manager for help because she is the only person who can speak English fluently and has open-minded. The location is near the police academy, most of the cab driver had hard time in finding the hotel.

El hotel no lo conocen ni los taxis del aeropuerto y con la dirección el chauffeur se detuvo 3 veces a preguntar dónde estaba situado. Está lejos del centro. Tuve que mostrar la reserva impresa para constatar que tenía cena incluida. A veces no hay nadie para abrir la puerta y hay que esperar afuera. Pagué una cena incluída carísima y me dieron un bife pequeño con fritas sólamente y ni un vaso de agua. Mucho frito y dieta poco balanceada (vitaminas cero). El desayuno es muy básico y si decido tomarlo tarde se acaba la banana, queso untable o huevos y no reponen!!! Las personas que atienden muy amables y amigables y los propietarios muy simpáticos. No hay teléfono en los apartamentos ni servicio de taxis. Un amable empleado me acompañó a la avenida y paró uno. Cuando me retiré no había nadie para hacer el check-out, luego de 20 minutos me marché... El wi-fi es muy débil. Todos los elementos de aseo que ofrecen es jabón en el baño. Las instalaciones son muy buenas, pero lamentablemente se manejan muy familiarmente y para estar en familia me quedo en casa y economizo los dólares que pagué por día.

Petit hôtel à l'ambiance familiale, très sympa. L'équipe est vraiment au petit soin. Le jardin est très agréable pour prendre le petit dej ou lézarder. Les chambres sont spacieuses et décorées simplement. Par contre, la télé et internet fonctionnent très mal. Le repas du soir est à un prix prohibitif (égal au prix parisien) au regard de la simplicité du plat (pâtes aux crevettes). Hormis ces 2 points, un excellent séjour ! En outre, le centre est facilement accessible en taxi à prix dérisoire.
